And she thought she was more qualified to be President? That woman is an idiot.

""Jan Brewer has the cojones that our president does not have," she said. "If our own president will not enforce our federal law, more power to Jan Brewer."

The fact that anyone takes this desperate, has-been attention seeker seriously as a political figure is scary. In an ideal world, she'd be relegated to a bad reality show on cable and we could all get on with our lives.

re: #2 jamesfirecat

I'm too busy holding my balls right now because Sarah Palin wants to take them away from me.

Seriously, though. Does this woman realize how much testicular fortitude it takes to stand up to assholes like her on a daily basis and NOT endorse racist policy? Jan Brewer waited until the last day before signing the law because she was weighing whether or not it would be more politically damaging to her if she vetoed it. She was wrong, but she signed out of fear all the same.

5 What, me worry?  Sun, Aug 1, 2010 8:51:00am

Brewer is a menace. Janet Napolitano (previous Gov) would never have let the immigration law fly in the first place. In fact, I think she's set the record for the number of vetos in AZ as the then Democratic Governor in a pretty conservative state. So if anyone has cajones, it would be her for standing up for what is right, legally and morally.

Palin called the judge's ruling "unfortunate" but hopefully "temporary."

Well. according to the US Constitution, the president is requited to

"take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed"

& I will call this president out, and yes, previous presidents too, on not enforcing the immigration laws.

You can see the bad results that flow from that.

Aren't there some sheriffs down in Arizona that are refusing to enforce this law since they feel it is bad policy and really hurts law enforcement's relationship with the immigrant community? Does Sarah too think they too lack "cojones." Seriously she's lame.

I agree. But I did find it interesting to discover the other day that being in the country illegally is not a crime. Not a misdemeanor nor a felony. It's a civil infraction punishable by a $50-250 fine under Title 8, Section 1325, OR jail time of only a few months, if the person can't pay.

According to my DHS friends, it's only criminal if you come back after being deported.

Doesn't change the immigration debate at all, but I just found it interesting. I had always assumed it was at least a felony, by the way people talk about it.

If there were no fences on the border at all, if there were no border control agents along the border, and if the president had ordered the DOJ to not arrest and deport anyone, then I'd say you'd have a much stronger point. But is any of that true? There's a big difference between "not enforcing" and "trying to enforce but unable to fully stop a big problem".

46 Ojoe  Sun, Aug 1, 2010 11:59:24am

re: #45 reidr

There has been a de facto "look the other way" policy for a decade or more:

The Democrats look the other way because they think the illegals will become Democratic voters;

The Republicans look the other way because the illegals work for cheap, and keep the wages of others down as well.

And the rule of law is eroded.

There is no "unable" here at all.

She probably doesn't know it's Spanish.

This, plus I doubt she has any idea what the word means.

Waaay outside: does anyone else find it sort of interesting that across all languages (well, at least the ones I'm familiar with), profanity always invokes reproduction, religion, and defecation?

I mean, if you drop a 10-lb dumbbell on your foot, you might exclaim "JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, SHIT!" even if there's nobody around to hear it. You probably have zero chance of saying "FRENCH HORN BASSINET ASPARAGUS, BEDTIME!"

Interesting: both stronzo and stronza have different meanings. By chance, you get it right. =)

At least in Spanish, it has to make sense for words to have male/female forms (many inanimate objects don't have both forms).

This reminds me of a piece by one of the Israeli bloggers I read...an American oleh. He was explaining to the lady next door that his youngest boy had had his tonsils out.

In order to understand what happened next, you need to know that the word for 'tonsils' in Hebrew also means 'almonds'.

The lovely Orthodox lady next door smiled brightly, and said in her practicing English, "Ah, he had his nuts removed!"

Readers abroad will be relieved to discover that Treppenwitz's son's nuts are OK.

That's awfully cynical. If anything, I'd say they don't want to offend their Hispanic base so they don't make it a big issue.

The Republicans look the other way because the illegals work for cheap, and keep the wages of others down as well.

That one's a bit more believable. Still, it is (and has been) somewhat enforced. People can't just waltz across the border. I think it just hasn't been that big of a deal, so it hasn't been given that much attention. Even now, I suspect it's more about politics and perception.

Although the anatomical symbolism in her language shrouds more than it reveals, the sick lady has touched an open question. What is it that this President is lacking, why does he not grow into the Gorbachev of Big Government as which he could remain in the history books? Or more precisely, what is the cause thereof?

Interestingly, the President seems to have cajones when he's pushing his fascist agenda down our throats and secretly building concentration camps and taking away liberties (without anyone noticing!) and all-around ruling with an iron fist.
