The End of the Military Mission in Iraq

The last official combat troops are now leaving Iraq. It’s the end of a long, grueling mission for the US military, and we thank them sincerely for their service and their sacrifices.

It remains to be seen whether the people of Iraq will be able to take advantage of the opportunity they now have to determine their own future. There are many powerful forces vying for control, and the security situation will probably get worse in the near future.
