I can't get it to download. During registration I can't come up with a third name (real name, user name, game name) that it will accept. I tried different names for about and hour yesterday before giving up on it. I'll probably putter with it tomorrow just to see if I can come up with something I can stand vs somthing it will let me use. Once I do that, I'll give CrossOver Games a shot - it runs the windows version of Steel Panthers so hopefully it can handle this.

Just got this piece of work sent to my email from one of my relatives:
Stop the Mosque!

19 Buck  Sat, Aug 21, 2010 9:53:08pm

On Wednesday afternoon, my father (who is a very physically health man of 80) had a seizure. He was alone, and they think he might have been alone and in seizure for an hour and a half before anyone noticed.

He was in his car, but in the parking lot of his office. He is a dentist.

Anyway they called an ambulance and called me. I arrived just as the ambulance was breaking the window in his car and pulling him out.

Once we got to the hospital, they did a CT scan, and learned he had a tumor.

We have learned that because of the location, and size it is inoperable, and that there is nothing anyone can do. There is no treatment.

I learned today that my father, who was until just a few days ago, vital healthy and active will die in 2-3 months.

It took 3 days, and the hard part is that he seems to have recovered from the seizure. He has a few hallucinations ever hour, like he is reading a book that isn't there, or that he is repairing a cabinet, but today he just seemed so much better. However every doctor tells us that it is very short term recovery, and that the tumor is very aggressive. He will sleep more, he will hallucinate more, and he will die.

I write this here because although I am "class of 2004" and most everyone still here thinks I am a right wing dink... LGF has meant a lot to me in the past 7-8 years. I guess I just wanted to document it here. Just like I have documented so many of my thoughts, opinions, and life events.

So I just wanted to say that.

{{{Buck}}}

with all sincerity.

I've had family and friends who have dealt who have dealt with GBs, and yes, they are killers of the first degree. Please believe me when I tell you that it is not your dad you need to concentrate on, it is the rest of your family. The progression of your dad's disease will take its own time and course. It's inexorable. Concentrate on the rest of your family and make sure that they are aware of the progress of the cancer and that they are prepared for your dad's death. Get his estate in order.

That may sound cold, but it's damn good advice.

Buck,

I may have never agreed with anything you have said since I have been here, but this transcends any political or ideological differences. I will pray for the best situation for your father, you, and your family. What Austin Blue says is true, but I would also say, spend the time you can with your father. Let him know all the things you have wanted to say to him regarding how much he meant to you, how much you love him. Don't let any sense of macho hold you back. Let your family know what they mean to you.

Yes, they will need your strength, but you will need theirs also. And when the end comes, spend some time with yourself, as well as your loved ones. but not too much.

Geez, Florida politics, why you gotta be so crazy and interesting

People in Oregon view Florida the way one watches a discovery channel documentary about an unusual form of sealife in an oceanic trench

66 WINDUPBIRD DISEASE [S.K.U.M.M.]  Sun, Aug 22, 2010 3:34:47am

also, Allen West thinks everyone with a Coexist bumpersticker is totally going to give away America, and since every block in Portland has a Volvo 240 or a slammed VW squareback with one of these, I guess Portland is just giving away that America:

[Link: thinkprogress.org...]

“[A]s I was driving up here today, I saw that bumper sticker that absolutely incenses me. It’s not the Obama bumper sticker. But it’s the bumper sticker that says, ‘Co-exist.’ And it has all the little religious symbols on it. And the reason why I get upset, and every time I see one of those bumper stickers, I look at the person inside that is driving. Because that person represents something that would give away our country. Would give away who we are, our rights and freedoms and liberties because they are afraid to stand up and confront that which is the antithesis, anathema of who we are. The liberties that we want to enjoy.”

What a dimwit. God damn America, you sure run a lot of weapons-grade morons for office, thank Christ on his Fucking Cross I'm way across the country from this fool

It's always strange when I sync with the New York times on music

Yob, the three-man doom-metal band from Eugene, Ore., played a show here at Skully’s on Saturday night that left you wondering when you’d heard something as good, and when you might again. It was all graceful molasses cohesion, moving in focused minor-key riffs and strong processional grooves from the bassist Aaron Reiseberg and the drummer Travis Foster, lighted up by Mike Scheidt’s fat, fuzzed guitar tone.

That's what Oregon does

(My wife volunteered for his first campaign.) The other two organizers there were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hayden (better known to some as Mrs. and Mr. Jane Fonda.)

I'm done with the war of the ties. I usually impose my will on The Kid about wearing a tie to church but, really. It's too hot. I don't think God cares if he doesn't wear a tie to church. What would we do if there weren't any ties? What if they were never invented? We wouldn't even miss them.

Oh, Mandy - yeah.
Give it up.
God really does not care if the Kid wears a tie or not.
Ya gots to pick your battles.
Some things are just not important enough to do battle over.

When daughter was, oh, I don't know - 11 or 12 - she wanted to wear makeup.
Now, that's too young for makeup (IMO).

Anyhoo - I took her to the Dept store, had them make her up, bought her a few items, ALONG WITH remover and cleansing stuff.

Two days of that routine, she figured it was way too much trouble. That was the end of the makeup.

Back in "our day", the 'rents forced us to wear all kinds of things. My mother made me wear a hairpiece (back in the 60s when wigs were popular) that absolutely freaked me out. Every picture they took of me with that thing, I looked miserable.

Meet the Press is awesome this morning. First a shouting match between the Michigan governor (she's so awesome) and Dick Armey.

Now Jeff Goldberg (Atlantic) is on talking about the mosque with Lazio, who's running for governor of NY. Katty Kay too (I think she's great).

The man committed the crime he was convicted of, that's not disputed. His death sentence as commuted to a life sentence at some point.

He was in the news locally for many years, so I watched this story play out in real time. It's a fascinating story. I haven't yet read the book, but I'm going to. If you're interested in culture, culture change, prisons and prisoners and their issues, and the potential people have to become a productive member of society, this book will be a good read.

I'd like to see that.. those were some ballsy dudes. I understand they walked away from a $10 million offer when FB was basically just a college directory. That takes some serious belief in your own ideas. Or serious stupidity. Both, really.

And one comment about women in sandals, I really don't want to look at your nasty feet and gnarly toes. And that French manicure ain't helping either. If you're nails look like raptor claws or your toes are as long your fingers, please put on a closed toe shoe.

Whew. I feel better now.

I remember growing up in the South that one sure-fire way to spot a Yankee was to check if he were wearing black socks with his sandals.

Obviously she's watching too much FOX News while getting her make up on!

I saw that on the Daily Mail. Very disappointing.

Rabbi Joy Levitt was just speaking with Daisy Khan. Rabbi Levitt is the executive director of the JCC in Manhattan which is basically the same kind of center that Park51 is going to be. I don't believe there's a synagogue per se in the JCC (there's usually isn't) but they do have Jewish related activities as well as secular programs. It serves the community as Park51 would also serve the community.

Rabbi Levitt said they have been speaking with Ms. Khan and the Imam and have been supportive of the project, giving advice on how to handle all these issues. Of course, the rabbi reminded everyone that there was a time in this country where you could not build a synagogue and it took an act of Congress to do so.

My grandparents met at the JCC in Brooklyn :)

I been internationally traveling since 2001, I've been all over Europe and Eastern Europe, never seen a single suitcase opened at customs or passport control. They do a lot of pre-screening now a days before you claim your luggage, with xray and other high tech devices. It would be rare for them to stop you because they thought they saw a package of cigars.

Yes I will daydream about Paris. I make a vacation last about a year, six months planning and reading up, and learning about where I am going (or in this case, reviewing, since I've been there 6 times), and then I spend 6 months after the vacation getting the historical details and reading up and learning about places I just saw. A vacation for me is worth a year of fun.

Ok... well, I would stop at the illegal stuff, but, to each his own. Since I use to collect ancient artifacts (when I had that kind of money), I had to keep up with the private collection laws of the countries I visited, since you can get in a lot of trouble if you are caught with some ancient something or other and it's not legal to remove it from the host country.

All my artifacts that were in my small collection were legally obtained and legally imported to the US by me.

I would certainly just keep things wrapped up in my luggage and not declare them, nor would I put myself in the position to have to pay extra duty on something that I already paid for. If customs wants to find the items and charge me, then have at it. I wasn't going to make it easy for them to collect more taxes than I had already paid in a host country.

Actually, get Hondurans if you want good Cubans.

Seems that when the Great Upheaval happened back when, several tobacco plantation folk took their seed stock (well, seeds, seedlings and cuttings) with them. Honduras offered almost identical climate and same if not better soil. It took some time to get established, but now... I can understand someone, born and raise into a religious culture and religious family life, being schooled in that religion from birth, I can understand the difficulty for that person to simply stop believing in a god. It's a socialization that becomes rather deeply built into your psych.

But, for a person who finally shakes off the traditions and religious myths, and embraces the logical positions of atheism, and then returns to a faith, that is equivalent to being a AGW denier.

very interesting. i don't know that i agree with the 'societal pressures' bit in the USA. it's a private survey...societal pressure is the pressure to act a certain way in public, right? so any private survey worth two cents, which this appears to be, should reveal private beliefs because the anonymity insulates one from societal pressure to answer in a certain fashion.

Those social pressures have the power to color our thought-processes, though. For someone who moves to someplace where they're an outcast because they don't believe in X, the acceptance that comes with conversion is a very powerful force. One might suddenly feel much happier, and credit the newfound belief with that happiness.
