Missiles at Ground Zero

Wingnuts • Views: 6,058

In addition to the people holding signs with the word “SHARIA” dripping blood, and the heavily tattooed Son of Dixie, yesterday’s Bigotry Parade at the Sacred Abandoned Burlington Coat Factory featured these creative floats, clearly a labor of “love.” (Ahem.)

First, a missile with an Arab effigy tied to it and a US Marines flag:

Next, a missile with scary fireball slogan and “Obama’s a sekrit Moslem!” sign:

A closeup of the sign on the second missile:

Ah, it wouldn't be a patriot rally without a dig at the Jews as well.

The Mosque protestors and Ahmadinejad have found common ground with their phallic missile obsession. Now if we can bring them together on silver or gold spraypaint we would achieve world peace. /

3 Interesting Times  Mon, Aug 23, 2010 12:46:25pm

...and that close-up of the sign tells you all you need to know about why Muslims are more demonized now than they were after 9/11. (Hint: "Othering" and ginning up even more hatred of the President. What ever would people say if Obama appeared in a photo-op like this?)

Yes, it's a 'grass roots' movement. Just a little paper maché (and diamond-plate custom trailers) thrown together by some patriotic mama grizzlies on the morning of the protest, I'm sure...

Training Pastors, Rabbis, and Imams Together

Drawing from classic American entrepreneurial wisdom — when faced with extinction, innovate — and a commitment to engage today's multi-faith culture, this fall Claremont will commence a first on U.S. soil: a "theological university" to train future pastors, imams, and rabbis under one roof. The experiment to end isolated clerical training brings together Claremont, the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC) and the Academy for Jewish Religion California. The hope of officials at all three organizations is that when leaders study their own religious traditions together alongside friends of other faiths, they will develop the respect and wisdom necessary to transform America's fractured religious outlook.

The project hatched naturally from Claremont's desire to engage southern California's religiously diverse population. "We're trying to catch up with the practical reality of how congregations, synagogues, and mosques are already trying to create some rapport among themselves," says Campbell. Not only will the project offer comprehensive multi-faith classes, but also it hopes to establish the first accredited imam-training institution in the U.S.

re: #16 Fozzie Bear

Why are extremists so often completely incapable of using language effectively?

Sometimes I think their brains actually process language differently. That is, they parse the meaning of words not based on definitions but based entirely on emotive content. For example, to a wingnut "Obama is a Nazi" makes sense because it fits the rule "(thing I don't like) is a (thing I don't like)." Telling them that government spending can spur economic growth sounds insane to them because it parses to "(thing I don't like) can spur (thing I do like)," which is obviously just silly to the wingnut brain.

Frankly, a lot of the things they say would be easier to understand if they would just boil all their talking points down to either angry barking or smiling and clapping.

27 darthstar  Mon, Aug 23, 2010 1:01:13pm

Off topic, but funny shit...check out this video of Joe Miller's wife (Joe is the guy Palin's backing against Murkowski in Alaska) going after some Murkowski supporters in a bar. This is particularly offensive, from the WDYMOT site:

We, Israelis have been fighting terrorism and Muslims well before Americans knew how to spell Terror. We have tolerance and respect for all religions but the one that will blow themselves to pieces together with women and children in markets and cafes in the name of God. Fundamentalist Islam requires and encourages killing your own daughter or sister with your own hands if she brought “shame” to the family by having extra marital sex or an affair while married. It is a religion that circumcises little girls so they will not enjoy sex when growing up and therefore will not cheat on their future husbands.

I think I've discovered the secret behind the misspellings that appear at every single one of these hatefests. See, it's mostly a bunch of old white dudes, and being old, they're suffering from erectile dysfunction. But, when they're getting ready for their white pride marches, all of their hate really gets their blood going, and as a consequence, they develop tiny raging hate boners. Since their brains barely function on a normal day, the sudden minuscule drop in cranial blood levels has a deleterious effect on their already depressed mental capabilities.

So they were handing out toy red and blue "hard"hats. That jerk who wanted to fight the guy he mistook for a Muslim because his hat looked like a kufi wanted to be mistaken for a guy who works hard on construction sites. Or a garage queen. BMWs are notoriously expensive to maintain. Even cheaper German cars like Volkswagen. This is especially true when one uses dealer maintenance.

re: #49 Bubblehead II

Yep. Here is a link to all of their missiles.

I knew these rockets looked too good for an ad hoc tea-bagger effort. The curved body panels and airfoil fins point to at least a basic effort at an authentic look. However, they don't represent any specific model and they are somewhat lacking in detail.
If you really want to make a statement at your next tea party crazy-fest, I recommend one of these. Drawbacks are the $500 price tag on the kit and the 200 hour build time. It is also a bit fragile for the rough and tumble of a mob action, but equipping the launch crew with (real) AR-15s (or perhaps MP-3s) should help that.

130 Mattand  Mon, Aug 23, 2010 3:44:39pm

I just noticed the slogan on the side of one of the missiles: "Religion Preying on Freedom".

Unreal. The Christian Teabaggers once again prove they're immune to irony as well as grammar.

As in my missile is bigger than your missile sort or way?

134 simoom  Mon, Aug 23, 2010 5:28:39pm

Did they have a permit or something for those mock missiles? I'm thinking about how seriously modern city police forces take threatening or abandoned packages, or suspicious vehicles -- streets might be evacuated; the bomb squad called in; robots remotely investigating. One example off-the-top-off-my-head would be the 2007 Boston bomb scare caused by, essentially, a bunch of Lite-Brites used in a viral marketing campaign.

So in this environment of hyper-vigilance you can wheel a bunch of missiles into downtown Manhattan and no one bats and eye?.. it's hard to fathom.

135 spikester  Mon, Aug 23, 2010 6:12:49pm
