Reposting because its important

Radical Islamists Try to Exploit Islamophobia

"The reaction is, at least on the part of extremists, fairly gleeful - that America is playing into our hands, that America is revealing its ugly face, and that even if it doesn't further radicalize people in the Middle East, there's no doubt that it will radicalize a kind of a key constituency that al-Qaida and other extremists are seeking to covet, seeking to court, which is the small number of homegrown extremists here in the United States," Kohlmann said.
...
"That message, that broad jihadi message, doesn't seem to be resonating tremendously well with American Muslims. But what I worry about is that a guy like Anwar al-Awlaki has better insight into what will work here. And his message has been a little bit different over the last six to nine months," Fisherman explains. "It has included all of those general themes. But it also discusses this idea that the West is turning on you, America is coming to get you, you won't be safe there for long, you have to fight back now."
...
Evan Kohlmann says each instance of hate-mongering plays into al-Alwaki's strategy of trying to radicalize moderate American Muslims. "When you see some of the rhetoric that is taking place, whether it is talking about burning a Koran or Islam being a devilish religion, this kind of rhetoric is extremely damaging," Kohlmann says, "and it does tend to push people like Nidal Hassan and Faisal Shahzad into doing things like what they've done, the Fort Hood massacre and the Times Square bombing. So the risk here is that the level of rhetoric has become so poisonous that we could end up turning the very moderates we seek to bring into the fold against us."

Counterterrorism analysts say there is grave potential for protests and attacks that may be even more violent than those that erupted after a Danish newspaper published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad. Depictions of Mohammad are forbidden in Islam. As Evan Kohlmann put it, if cartoons can provoke that kind of violence, what would a burn the Koran day ignite?

I have a Pages question-The whole point of Pages is we can have some content here, rather than just linking out to a blog or news site. I recall a gently enforced rule about blog pimping. I someone were using the pages to pimp their blog a lot, would that get noticed naturally by the powers that be around here or should that be reported?

What a great band

I was just listening to Kyuss' Sky Valley, Josh Homme of QOTSA and Crooked Vulture's earlier group. Josh Homme, you're a beautiful snowflake, never stop kicking ass

HOW GREAT ARE THOSE DRUMS

I removed that navigation bar on the main page that used to contain just a link to "Yesterday," to get rid of some clutter in the UI. The Daily Archives button in the left sidebar does the same thing with more flexibility.

The nav bars on sub-pages are more useful so they'll remain.

Also, I moved the button that leads to LGF Pages out of the right sidebar, to front and center, and made it huge. Man, that's one huge button.

I'm seriously considering allowing Pages that drop below a certain rating level to be 'hidden' automatically from view. People would need to start using the rating buttons on Pages more, though, to make this effective.

That's why I don't use twitter...one hundred forty characters? Are you kidding me? How on earth am I supposed to find time to type that much and then still be able to click twit or tweet or whatever the fuck the button is called on that thing...sixty characters, sure...eighty, I suppose...but once you start getting into the triple-digits, man, you'd might as well call in a ghost-writer, because there's no way in hell I'm going to have that much to say on a given subject, unless of course that subject happens to be "How cool is the Grateful Dead" in which case I'd probably come up with 140 characters in a relatively short amount of time...not counting the three hours I'd need to spend listening to a show to get my groove on so I didn't leave anything out. I like to post long excerpts too, because sometimes links "die" or something - after awhile, it doesn't go anywhere.

If it's something I think someone might want to reference later, I post a longer excerpt so the information is still there and available.

Robert Spencer. Another former Communist:

Dhimmitude was the state to which Muslim caliphs reduced their “useful” but decidedly second-class subjects, those who had to be made to “feel themselves subdued” (the Koran, Sura 9:29), Robert Spencer told me as we dined in the T.G.I. Friday’s on the scenic lower level of Penn Station. A canny operative who likely has the inside track on the State Department’s Middle East affairs desk should the tea party win the White House in 2012, Spencer nonetheless offered that he had spent part of his youth working at Revolution Books, which is run by the Revolutionary Communist Party (and its cultish leader Bob Avakian), a hard-line Maoist group most sixties-style radicals, like, say, Bill Ayers, would consider beyond the pale. Spencer—whose father worked for the Voice of America during the Cold War—contended that terror, the threat of the A-bomb in the burka, while worth worrying about, was “just one tactic” in Islam’s clash with the U.S. What was afoot was a more insidious thing, a burrowing infiltration of the enemy.

When I used to tweet, I made a "constrained writing" (q.v.) game out of it.

I would not allow myself to post anything that did not contain exactly 140 characters. Of course you can't do more, but I refused to do less.

Give me any topic under the sun and I will compose a 140-character précis of the matter.

Later on, we're going to start "Twittipedia", the internet encyclopedia for anyone who dislikes long entries. If you can't define it in 140 characters, it ain't worth knowin'!

Heh. According to that article, and judging by her own words, Pamz has a John Galt fixation.

I'm betting that if Galt were a real person and not a cardboard cutout from the mind of sick-fuck Rand, he wouldn't do Pamz with a ten-foot cattle prod.

re: #47 reine.de.tout

I like to post long excerpts too, because sometimes links "die" or something - after awhile, it doesn't go anywhere.

If it's something I think someone might want to reference later, I post a longer excerpt so the information is still there and available.

I mostly do the opposite. I want people to visit the sites I link to so
1. those sites get hits
2. people can see that there is some really great commentary going on.

I have a bit of a problem completely appropriating someones text. It's their IP, they should get the hits for it. Most sites have archived versions, those are the ones I link to. Generally I link to stuff that I'm interested in (economic commentary from a liberal perspective, perspectives on race, stories that are consistent with the current LGF front page, funny shit) and add a few lines of unoriginal snark.

Gawd I suck...

I do add the occasional 'original' content. Unfortunately, it takes me a long time to make something readable...let alone enjoyable.

Warhammer 40k, so my army alone has 53 infantry models, 2 large tanks and 4 Apcs. My buddy's force will probably outnumber me by at least 2 to 1 if not more, but the majority will be light infantry equivalent, so looking at probably anywhere from 150 to 200 models on the table when we play. Evangelical in favor of Christian Terrorism to hold rally in Sacramento

The prayer event has been endorsed by a cross-section of Christian leaders from former Arizona Gov. Mike Huckabee to Campus Crusade for Christ co-founder Vonette Bright, International House of Prayer founder Mike Bickle, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins and Liberty Counsel founder Mathew Staver.

"With Judge Walker reversing the vote of millions of people concerning traditional marriage, this is a perfect time to gather for a solemn assembly to fast and pray and stand for the most critical issue of our day," Huckabee said in a video message inviting people to participate in the event. (Watch Huckabee's invitation below.)

Engle believes the anniversary meeting, which thousands are expected to attend, has the potential to turn the nation toward biblical values, as participants pray for "righteous" leaders to emerge from the midterm elections and for God to "shift the whole political system in America and the seven spheres of society."

"There is a hill above Capitol Hill," Engle said. "It's God's praying church who actually begins to influence the governments of the earth through their prayers."

Engle makes no apologies for his political advocacy. He believes if Christians don't influence politics, Satan will.

Prayer and preaching the gospel are the church's primary calling, he said. "But to say don't get involved in those high places [of government] is actually allowing our archenemy Satan to put his own people in those high places, where spiritual powers can actually control societies and release laws that actually legalize systemic evil," Engle added.

Well heck, that's a video cam... with an f 2.8 lens I would recommend about a foot distance from your miniatures, you will have to play with it a bit. Try putting something flat like a picture with lots of detail on it at the exact right distance, then put the camera in a jig or clamp -- play with the focus until you get it exact, then take auto focus off. Your camera is probably focusing past your miniatures when you video them.

Detail is only going to be as good as:
1. the optics
2. the pixel count (how many pixels per inch)
3. how many inches the max resolution will provide (a glossy mag will use about 150-200pixels per inch for a 300dpi offset.
4. what kind of jpeg compression the image processor is using

Later on, we're going to start "Twittipedia", the internet encyclopedia for anyone who dislikes long entries. If you can't define it in 140 characters, it ain't worth knowin'!

I saw "Twittipedia" and thought it must be either--

(a) a homage to Monty Python's "Upper Class Twit of the Year" sketch; or
(b) the complete, unedited "works" of such luminaries as Pamz, Spencer, RSM, Beck, Rush, Olbermann, Lou Dobbs, Palin, Breitbart, and other f'in' morons.

And I have no clue why you would ever consider putting Olbermann in that company.

Perhaps you're an asshole?

I did it because asshattery is not restricted to the right, although it seems much more at home there. I turn to MSNBC hoping to find Maddow (whom I used to loathe) shredding the right when they've got it coming and find KO doing the left no favors with his rants. I'd love to know why he's still on--or what he's on.

I did the exact same thing.
