BeckFest 2010 Crowd Size: 87,000

Wingnuts • Views: 4,493

CBS News commissioned an estimate of the crowd size at today’s Glenn Beck Festival, and the results are in: Glenn Beck Rally Attracts Estimated 87,000.

An estimated 87,000 people attended a rally organized by talk-radio host and Fox News commentator Glenn Beck Saturday in Washington, according to a crowd estimate commissioned by CBS News.

The company AirPhotosLive.com based the attendance on aerial pictures it took over the rally, which stretched from in front of the Lincoln Memorial along the Reflecting Pool to the Washington Monument. Beck and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke at the rally.

Beck, who predicted that at least 100,000 people would show up, opened his comments with a joke: “I have just gotten word from the media that there is over 1,000 people here today.”

AirPhotosLive.com gave its estimate a margin of error of 9,000, meaning between 78,000 and 96,000 people attended the rally. The photos used to make the estimate were taken at noon Saturday, which is when the company estimated was the rally’s high point.

Sure, if you use math. But this is about restoring America to a time when people didn't use math. So 500,000 sounds about right.

Nailed it! I *told* you they'd fit in the UT stadium with room to spare. It holds just north of 100,000.

Wingnut funny quote:
"Last night, I passed a number of tour buses and other vehicles with messages concerning this event on the back windows, all headed to DC on the interstate. Also saw some "Impeach Obama" bumper stickers. The size of today's crowd is going to overwhelm Washington. Barry and M. Antoinette are going to be looking out the windows nervously today and rubbing their throats. It's over for them. "

Let's review:
Million Man March - 400,000+
March For America (Immigration Reform) - 200,000+
National Equality March (Lesbian, Gay etc.) - 200,000+
Tax Payer March on Washington (Tea Party) - 80,000+
Beckapalooza (stupid white people) - 87,000

Rightwing grass roots movements: Fail.

Another wingnut funny!

"I got about as close as 1/2 down the mall on the right side path, under the trees next to the reflecting pool. People coming back from closer to Lincoln said, forget it, turn around. They said it was so packed down there you couldn't breath.

There were 400-500k there, if it is true that 200k fit around the reflecting pool. "

The wingnuts are claiming 450-500,000. I'm sure Beck will claim the University of I Don't Remember estimated it at 2million or more.

16 Dancing along the light of day  Sat, Aug 28, 2010 4:28:48pm

And from the "American Thinker"...

Without question, the rally sponsored by Glenn Beck today in front of the Lincoln Memorial drew a massive crowd. (snip) Carrie Dunn of left wing MSNBC even concedes: "Today's rally was indisputably huge. NBC's Domenico Montanaro noted one park service official's estimate of over 300,000 but please note that the park service no longer provides "official" estimates." (snip) a Washington Post story that reports Al Sharpton's counter-rally drew only 3,000. A one hundred to one ratio comparing the reach of Glenn Beck and Al Sharpton sounds appropriate to me.

It's a very respectable turn out. The problem is, these are people who don't understand democracy, despite their protestations to the contrary. Look at the endless crying about "tyranny" and "our country is being stolen" when there is no dispute that Obama was democratically elected with a majority of both the popular and the electoral votes. Since his inauguration had such a large crowd their desperate to have an event with a larger crowd so they can finally say "see, we have a majority" regardless of the fact that the number of people at either event would be a tiny, tiny fraction of the entire electorate that voted for this president.

It's pathetic really, but one needs something to cling to.

I'm no fan of Glenn Beck. A lot of what he says resonates and a lot does not, in the same way one can find inspirational passages in religious texts and find less than savory texts as well. It's all about context.

I find Beck's right wing vision/version of utopia as ugly as I find any left wing vision/version of utopia.

Why? Because there can be no utopia without the imposition of tyranny. All ideological utopias subvert free will and free choice. Someone once said that "Religion is for those who are afraid of Hell. Spirituality is for those [Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...] have already walked through it."

Beck is not an enemy to be feared anymore than Dawkins is an enemy for spiritual people to fear. Much of Beck's ideology and vision are shallow and without much substance. As appealing as living in a world of cliches is, we all know that life isn't that simple. Only the ideologues- like Beck and his counterparts on the left want you to believe that because pitching the human condition as either black or white empowers them.

Americans are a smart, self correcting lot. We will soon tire of the extremes and of the apocalyptic visions thrown at us every day. Our history proves that.

To focus on Beck or Van Jones or any other fool who at times spout stupid and exclusionary ideals is a tremendous waste of energy and in fact, diverts our attention from the real work that needs to be done.

Our political system has been manipulated into a system that serves politicians. Raising money for reelections and campaigns are the only efficient and smoothly run programs in Washington.

Beck and Palin are sideshows, as are their equivalents on the left. Excoriating them doesn't make for better government.

People on both sides are lashing out at bad government and there are those who take advantage of that by diverting attention and blaming one side or the other. It is as disingenuous as it gets.

We are witnessing the Arabization of American politics. The right wants you to believe that salvation is only a jingo away- if you just send money. The left want you to believe they will pay for votes and establish entitlements. Both parties dispense money, patronage and outright bribery in an effort to maintain control of their Congressional agenda. The amount of money being dispensed by the White House and Congress is staggering- all in the name of what by all standards of measurement are the failed economic ideologies and policies of both parties. Ludicrous stimulus projects and obscene corporate tax breaks are two sides of the same coin.

I don't give a rats ass about Glenn Beck or Hannity or Maddow or Olbermann.

All they do is fan the flames- which is exactly what they are paid to do.

All we do is continue to consume the shit.

What. The. Fuck?!?

This book is written primarily to show the BLACK MAN, and the
WORLD the true source of their problem, 33% of the BLACK WOMEN
of AMERICA (BABYLON). GOD is angry with the world for worshipping
this WOMAN LILITH the DEVIL. Acts 19:22-27 is shocking saying: THE
WHOLE WORLD WORSHIPETH THE WOMAN GODDESS DIANA
WHO ACTUALLY is LILITH this BLACK WOMAN in BABYLON
(America). This can be proven on page 2 of this book, end of
paragraph.

People of the WORLD this BOOK OF TRUTH is your warning to
separate from LILITH. For what communion has light with darkness.
EVE is 67% of the BLACK WOMEN, the one that is GOOD and will help
save us, ADAM THE BLACK MAN. THE BLACK MAN is almost extinct
and LILITH the DRAGON will kill us all if EVE and we the people of the
world don’t stop her. LILITH must be revealed. This WOMAN has
made man in the world impotent and obsolete.

WOMEN TOOK OVER IN AMERICA

When America gave women the right to vote. How? Because they out
number men 40 to 1, women have the voting power in numbers, the
majority.

I must say, having their weird little cult take to the steps behind Beck would be a really clever way to get some media exposure. Since they're black, FNC is going to point all kinds of cameras at them.

Don't forget Obama's Inauguration - 800,000+

I didn't include that as we were all under the spell of the Kenyan Witch Doctor (really because I was looking at issue oriented gatherings). But I've seen estimates up to 1.4 million for the inaugural and 400,000 for the We Are One concert 2 days before. Having been at both, I can certainly attest that the We Are One concert was much larger then the aerial photos I've seen of Beckapalooza. The We Are One gathering had crowds packed together from the Lincoln Memorial all the way up to the Washington Memorial. My brother inlaw was down along 17th street and could not move standing up, let alone set up a law chair.

We are witnessing the Arabization of American politics.

Could you explain that term to me? I don't understand exactly what the connotation is there.

Other than that, I generally agree with your point - extremism on either the left or the right leads to tyranny. Communists and fascists have always been the diametric mirror images of one another, which is why they've always clashed wherever they've appeared. They are the poles towards which either form of fanaticism inevitably leads.

Right now in American politics, the left is dominated by centrists, while the right is dominated by extremists. The voices that are missing are the far left and the center right; both are being drowned out currently.

It was not always so. In the very late 60's through the later 70's, it was quite the reverse, with the right wing known for prudent conservative approaches, and the left wing engaging in extremist radicalism. The exact opposite of what we see today.

I'm not so interested in the size of a Beck rally in DC, although CBS seems to be. I wonder if they're the only news outfit that commissioned a study?
The real number that should make headlines is that of seats the Democrats will lose in the midterm elections, which polls continue to revise upward.

Good government is subverted by the need to remain in power, not unlike Middle Eastern regimes. Attention is always focused outward (toward the enemy), as if that is more important than dealing with issues that impact people. Obsessing enemy is always more important than fixing problems. People will out up with crap as long as the enemy is excoriated, hated and blamed for all the ills of the world.

Take away the hated enemy, work things out with enemy and the reason for poor governance fades away.

Peace in the Mid East? Not just yet. The Arab regimes need Israel. Hate and obsession are a lot easier than good government.

Right- and moonbats have never played the racial card when it suited them. Right.

It's all cyclical. Always has been.

I had a lovely Shabbos.

I come back to see the Beck rally garbage. Garbage on the stage, a sea of hateful, semi-literate fools in the crowd, and the man-baby drooling himself, on the anniversary of one of the greatest acts of one of my personal heroes.

Dr. Martin Luther King, stood with honor and eloquence for a just cause. He knew that doing so would eventually get him killed. He bravely did so anyway.

He moved the world forward morally and did so with great humanity, decency and dignity. His dream is one that all Americans who value liberty must embrace. His dream is one which all those who value compassion mist embrace. His dream is one which all those who have a shred of morality and any concept of justice must embrace. His dream is one of love and serving others.

In stark counter point, we have the drooling, classless, undignified, and utterly self serving, shameless manbaby Beck leading not a sea of those seeking justice, but a sea of those seeking to remove justice out of fear and hatred.

This is the most profoundly sick irony of history, I have ever been witness too.

That's fine. I don't see it as juvenile at all. Making reference to subservient fools who wait to lick their masters' sweaty balls, is perfectly apt for them. After all, they want to take rights and powers from the people and give them to the plutocrats. And they get to get a hate on in the process.

Between 350,000 and 500,000 participants showed up, according to Dallas police estimates. In Fort Worth, about 10,000 to 30,000 people marched.

Sunday's march brought together U.S. citizens and immigrants, both legal and illegal. It drew families and teenagers and a mix of veteran activists and those demonstrating for the first time. Police reported only one arrest, for public intoxication.
