Signs Banned at Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer’s Hate Rally

Wingnuts • Views: 4,570

Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer are taking a page from the Glenn Beck playbook, and banning all signs at their upcoming shameless attempt to capitalize on America’s memories of 9/11 to demonize Muslims. Instead they’re getting even more shameless with a jingoistic command to bring American flags to a rally for a cause that couldn’t be more un-American: NO SIGNS AT THE 911 GROUND ZERO MEGA MOSQUE RALLY — FLAGS! - Atlas Shrugs.

Robert and I respectfully request that those of you who will be attending our protest against the Ground Zero mega mosque bring American flags, not signs. 9 x 12 sized flags. Nothing with big poles: the NYPD won’t allow big poles. Please get the word out now.

We will be confiscating signs. It is a solemn day. No signs. FLAGS. Tens of thousands of flags.

“Tens of thousands of FLAGS,” she wrote, rubbing her hooves in glee.

Here’s why Geller and Spencer are going to confiscate signs at their hate rally; because they know people like this will show up, as they did in November 2009 in Franklin County, Ohio. I hope they’re ready to confiscate t-shirts too.

Really, what's the problem with Polish basketball players?

Bogus reporting. While the NYPD has a strong Irish tradition, it has nothing against big Poles.

Usually when I rub my hooves, it's 'cuz they're in pain. Never actually rubbed my own hooves in glee, though. I usually pay someone to do that.

The first privately-owned TV I ever saw was controlled by a coin box on its top. To watch a half-hour show, you inserted a quarter. Once a month the TV guy came and emptied the box. That was your installment plan. Don't gimme "old".

Not joking. We were allowed a half-hour per night in the dorms. Bishop Sheen led the ratings, with "You Are There", the Firestone classical music show, "I Was a Communist for the FBI" and "Wild Kingdom" getting the rest of the week.

They want this to be a perfect made-for-TV event. They don't want individuals to express any of their own opinions. Only the opinions of the organizers are what matter.

What are they afraid of? That the crowd will reveal their true, xenophobic, hateful nature?

My grandmother first saw TV at the 1939 New York World's Fair. The opening ceremonies were the first commercial TV broadcast and RCA had set up a huge exhibit to capitalize. The entry had a closed circuit setup where you could see yourself on a monitor. The screen was a little 9 inch affair that reflected up into a mirror for viewing. The first sets cost about $400, a small fortune in 1939. Grandma was not impressed on the whole and predicted that it would come to nothing. She still isn't impressed with TV but does admit that it is more prevalent than she would have thought.

Yes, things may get quiet for a bit, but the underpinnings of false rage will bubble to the surface with periodic rallies, especially as building commences. The CC will need tight security.

I was thinking about something Donald Trump said in an interview... that if the property could be sold for two or three times its purchase price, as has been tossed around, some movement might be made on building the center nearby but elsewhere... Trump mentioned he could think offhand of one or two locations that would suit. So my thoughts were that if this happened , it would be quietly. No way would it happen if vehement protest was still in the mix.

Oh. Well, I don't see Geller or Spencer doing anything quietly. If it was a matter of a deal created by Trump and presented to Rauf then it would be a private matter. Right now Geller is trying to sell more books and is getting her 15 minutes.

If Rauf simply makes a quiet deal and takes another location somewhat farther away from Ground Zero, it sort of ruins Pam's narrative. She'll have to either insist that the new location is even worse and more holy, and what have you...

1. Gives endless ammunition to the idea that the community center is a response to 9/11.

2. Probably not going to be a cheerful happy day in Lower Manhattan. Balloon releases and small children eating ice cream is going to seem a bit jarring.

3. Seems really, really inauspicious as dates go.

Hypothetically speaking I wouldn't recommend it.

Well, my thinking on it. It would be a way for those supporting the Park51 center to "build bridges." Imam Rauf has certainly extended himself in words and deeds to those end, bridge building, and I just wonder if it wouldn't be a gesture in return for all supporters to come together on some 9/11 and show the Imam how much they are willing to walk across that bridge.

Just a thought experiment. I can understand why it would certainly be controversial... like I say... just a thought.

Germany, at least some years ago, makes it extremely hard for immigrants and their descendents to gain citizenship. Which led, of course, to generations of Turks who couldn't vote in Germany...

I don't care for it. The project isn't, at least primarily, about 9/11, and it's been obsessively linked to that by its opponents. I would rather see them do it on a different date, and on the 11th hold a memorial service.

Isn't it funny how believe things the first time they hear them. You then have to dig up 20 sources to try and disprove the lie. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't we try to see if something is true in the first place?

I don't know. My ex-wife imported her whole yahoo clan from the Texas Panhandle to Massachusetts for our daughter's wedding. I was afraid they would break something in the exquisitely restored colonial church and I would have to pay for it.
Among other things, the ex got drunk at the reception, approached my mother, and whined, "Mom, I get the feeling you don't like me!"
My mom responded, "After 25 years you're just starting to figure this out?"
Fortunately, my daughter was blissfully unaware of this scene.

Signs are probably banned to keep "false flag" leftists from coming out with fake signs. There have been stories about leftists trying to tar the Tea Party with fake signs.

I suppose anything is possible, but IMO, the last thing Geller and Associates need are signs that advocate violence and promote prejudice. Messages like that always look bad. Besides, as we've seen before, the Geller crowd has a strong tendency to become hostile to outsiders. For example, there is this story to consider:

Anti-Mosque Mob Turns on Black Union Carpenter.

don't get me wrong, I have no problem serving, in fact I think it my duty. I just hate the degrading system.

A Tale of Two Emails:

I'm probably going to put this up as a page later, but I want to put it out here first. The League of American Voters that Dick Morris used to work for sent me two email this week. The first, posted below, is quite sane and I actually was happy to see it, since I agree with. Here it is, unedited. Note how it criticizes Obama without being crazy about it:

Dear Friend:

Since we started our national campaign with Senator Fred Thompson to have the Bush Tax Cuts fully renewed, we have made enormous progress.

In fact, the Washington Post reports in Friday's paper "With the economy rapidly weakening, some senior Democrats are having second thoughts about raising taxes on the nation's wealthiest families and are pressing party leaders to consider extending the full array of Bush administration tax cuts, at least through next year."

As you know, we at the League of American Voters, working with Senator Fred Thompson, took the lead on this issue, including airing TV commercials across the United States.

These ads have had a powerful effect.

Millions have heard our message and over 250,000 Americans have signed our petition to renew the Bush tax cuts.

Congress is hearing your voice!

Just months ago Obama, Pelosi and Reid said they planned to only partially renew the Bush tax cuts.

This would have simply been disastrous to the U.S. economy.

One major British economist formerly with the Bank of England has warned of a full blown depression if the Bush Tax Cuts are not renewed.

But due to our national efforts, Democrats realize the American people won't put up with an automatic tax hike at the end of this year.

The Washington Post says that economist Mark Zandi, a key adviser to House Speaker Pelosi, has advised the Democrats to fully renew the Bush tax cuts for at least one year.

"With 9.5 percent unemployment - which is clearly going to move higher - raising taxes is a gamble that is unnecessary," Zandi said.

But the Post says many far left Democrats still want the Bush cuts to fully expire.

So we need to continue our efforts.

We are still airing our national ads, but we need to do more.

It's likely Congress will take up the Bush Tax Cuts this September. We need to prepare now and get our message out to millions more.

If you have not seen our powerful ad with Fred Thompson — Go Here Now.

But most importantly help us put Fred's ad on more TV stations and networks across the country.

Please help our worthy cause — Donate Here Now

Thank you again for your support.

Yours for America,

Bob Adams
Executive Director

P.S. Dick Morris says the League of American Voters is "one of the most effective organizations in America. They deserve support." We have a unique chance to prove ourselves again, and get the Bush tax cuts renewed. And next year we will lead the fight with a new Congress to make these cuts permanent. But we can't do it without your help. Help us today — Go Here Now

Here's the second email. The League of American Voters lets Newsmax do an email with Glenn Beck as its focus. The result is intense Bad Craziness. I've broken the email into two parts, but have not otherwise edited it:

Dear Reader:

One of our sponsors, Newsmax, has an important message about Glenn Beck. Please read it today.

Thank you.

League of American Voters

Dear fellow American:

Wow! When Newsmax magazine sat down with Glenn Beck we had little idea he would reveal so much to us.

But as Glenn says, he has no "secrets" he's afraid to tell the world about.

In fact, Newsmax magazine's special report "Glenn Beck Wants You!" has been one of our most explosive editions ever — and sales have of it have simply skyrocketed.

Glenn told his radio audience that the Newsmax magazine profile of him was one of the best ever.

After Glenn Beck's enormously successful "Restoring Honor" rally this past weekend, you need to get this edition of Newsmax magazine and find out what Beck really thinks.

Beck also reveals his real fear — a coming "Reichstag" moment in America.

Check out our free offer BELOW for a free copy of the Glenn Beck edition PLUS our free gift worth $30!

Newsmax.com

Newsmax Magazine
A Newsmax Special Report:
Why “Glenn Beck Wants You!”

Fox News host Glenn Beck’s TV show has been breaking records — attracting more than 3 million viewers a night — since it burst on the scene in January.

He’s the only author ever to have a No. 1 New York Times best-seller in the fiction, nonfiction and paperback fiction categories.

His syndicated radio show airs on more than 400 stations, his Web site and Web casts are thriving, and his live comedy performances are jam-packed.

Why, and how, is Glenn Beck resonating so powerfully with a huge swath of the American people?

Newsmax magazine takes an in-depth look at the “Happy Warrior” Glenn Beck and reveals how he rose to prominence — and has become such an enemy of the Obama White House and the establishment media.

This insider report on Glenn Beck includes an exclusive, wide-ranging interview with the media sensation who befuddles critics, rallies voters and draws back the curtain on low deeds in high places.

In his interview with Newsmax, Beck reveals his worst fear: that a “Reichstag moment” — a catastrophic event may soon take place so that the powers that be in Washington can end the Republic and our cherished Constitution.

Beck insists he’s not fearmongering — but he is personally afraid for the United States.

When you get Newsmax magazine’s special report on Glenn Beck, we’ll also provide you with a special URL so you can watch the video of our interview with him. This is not available publicly — but it’s a special bonus to our readers!

Beck himself loves Newsmax. Recently he gushed enthusiastically about the blockbuster “Glenn Beck Wants You!” Newsmax report, telling radio listeners: “Gosh, thank you, Newsmax. What an in-depth article, and a fair article. Thank you.”

And he told Newsmax: “We are fighting people who want power over us.”

If you have to call 911 use a hard wired land line phone, they know where you are instantly if you do; but if you use a cell phone they do not know where you are.

This exclusive Newsmax report explores:

* The significance of Beck’s astronomical TV ratings

I guess a political "opinion" show regularly drawing in less than 1% of Americans is "astronomical TV ratings" for a cable channel.

I'll bet network daytime soaps get more viewers.

I'm not sure where the burr under my saddle blanket comes from but Walter is it's name and I thrash about in pure stupid mode more days than not. There are plenty of others that can bother me but I really have to fight myself to not say something stupid when Walter makes a good argument. More often than not I fail. There's no difference.

From what I've been able to tell, they're two branches of the same tree, although the Deuce appears to let it all hang out 24/7. Would it be wrong to say that C2 is, more or less, Deuce Lite?

Always wondered what Palin would be like if she was "free" of her handlers, I'm betting it would be a trip.

Handlers schmandlers. Did you see her tweets today?

She wants what she's got, she's going to behave to keep it.

Although the support for Dr. Laura would have doomed any other candidate....well maybe 20 years ago.

If somebody says something you disagree with, respond to it then. Don't come back weeks or months later and demand to dig up their old posts just because you want to have the same argument again.

I notice a trend with you of demanding that people argue what you want to argue about when you want to argue about it, regardless of the thread topic or any of the prevailing discussions in the current thread. In addition, you keep demanding that other people take certain positions that you want to argue against.

I've said this before, but maybe you missed it: go start your own blog. Then you can have complete control over what's discussed. You can even register a bunch of puppet accounts so you have complete control over what everybody says.

re: #635 elbruce

Spot on dude! Although we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things you are not an asshole either. You may last a long time here.

Oh, let's not jump to any crazy conclusions...

I'm guessing she was told by city authorities that any hateful signs attendees of her rally brandish will be confiscated by police. So she's trying to avoid a potential fiasco by asking people to play it safe and bring flags, thereby masking their hateful rhetoric under supposed patriotic intentions.
She's putting signs on buses and apparently suing to keep them on display, why ban signs during her imaginary "triumph"?

Bagpipes in the Longest Day.

For Charles and LGF

I didn't go through the whole thread, so perhaps it's been mentioned, but I read about a week to ten days ago that the real-life bagpiper from that incident died only recently at age 86 or 88.

You know why pipers walk as they play? They're trying to escape the sound.

No habla español.

You're telling james that he doesn't speak Spanish? If you're trying to say, "I don't speak Spanish", it's "hablo". [Five years of HS Spanish. I'm very rusty but remember some of it]

re: #491 Cannadian Club Akbar

What is this place? Porquito Verde Footballs?
//

Futboles Poquito Verde. Adjectives after the noun. Although brookly's response in #497 has me hungry now.

re: #506 brookly red

oh please my Spanish is so bad I can only a. order a lunch special b. find the bathroom c. start a fight.

b. is the important one. "Donde esta el bano?" I knew a gal who spoke about 10 languages fluently, and she said one of her goals was to be able to ask, "where is the bathroom?" in a hundred.

re: #553 Cato the Elder

What the hell is C2?

Can't do algebra, so I'm at a loss.

Since I've been here, that's the first thing I've known you to be unable to do.

I've noticed that the comments about this woman Pamela Geller seem very aggressive. I have read that she has taken a strong position on this issue of the projected mosque, but is it fair, even if one disagrees with her really strongly, to use such an "ad hominem" approach ?

I remember when LGF started, or anyway used intensively, the "ROP" label when talking about anyone who might be Muslim, or about an event concerning Muslims.

Some of my friends thought this a little provocative, but then this was in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 .

What has this (rather pretty) woman done which deserves such ire ?

re: #575 LudwigVanQuixote

only superficially.

Yep. Looking now and seeing the same freaks posting on both sites. I'd say the only thing that perhaps sets C2 apart is the delusion on the part of some there that Charles will one day let them all back in here. LOL

That's because we've noticed that she's aggressively insane and monumentally stupid. It's not all adhominems either, as I'm sure you know. Interesting distortion though.

Her posts and statements have been shown to be wildly errant from a purely factual point of view countless times here. But I'm sure you knew that too.

What has this (rather pretty) woman done which deserves such ire ?

I think it's time for this (rather transparent) fanboi to do some research before he logs on here to ask such stupid questions.

"It's not all adhominems either..."

Not all, as you say, but mostly as I read.

I have no truck with racist slurs, and do not think that the moral health of America is put in peril by a mosque in the Wall Street area, where I have worked in the past.

All the same I have this bigoted British approach that "ad hominem" always reduces the impact of an argument, and is a dangerous deviation from the values which we should be going out on a limb to defend. In essence it is no less unacceptable than that used by "truffers" who speil endlessly on some internet sites and some (if not most) climate change deniers who simply have vested interests.

Any opinions on the "ad hominem" approach used by Pamela Geller, which might be more accurately described as "batshit shrieking insane?"

re: #648 Jon a Brit in Euroland

1) You are talking to a Brit.

2)If you are implying that taking a dim view of ad hominems is a purely British attitude, that in itself constitutes a (baseless) ad hominem attack on all non-British people.

3) If you support Pamela Geller, you probably are a bigot. That's just a fact.

re: #650 Jimmah

You deserve a reply, even though I don't really want to defend myself, since I am not (or at least don't consider that I am) a bigot. I think that the same rules should apply to all, independent of their religion (in this case) while showing some sensitivity to those who grieve.

This doesn't mean than one side or the other of any such debate is not likely to go over the top, as each mutually builds tension in the other, having such strong feelings about the issue.

Personally I don't care much either for or against the mosque, although the character of the people proposing the project do not seem (and I may be misinformed) to be the most consensus building types.

In fact I think that this has to be looked at in the context of the "mid terms", where this Project, if it is seen as something AMERICANS don't want, will contribute to get the GOP back into power in Congress, whatever the liberal debate arrives at.

Perhaps Pamela Geller's less than great mastery of her vocabulary would be a handicap to her side, unless it generates an opposite but similar reaction, here for instance...

Of course one might posit that PG is being intentionally provocative. in which case one can either play into the role she sets for us, of take a deep breath and remain cool.

If you can keep avoiding any discussion of Gellers obvious bigotry, hysteria, and stupidity, while ignoring the repeated factual eviscerations of her posts and statements on this website (and elsewhere) and focus instead on one or two ad homs that may have been chucked her way as though that were the entire case against her, then you too will be a dutiful Pamela Geller fanboi, my son.
