Tech Note: Twitter OAuth Test

LGF • Views: 3,203

So, without telling anybody, Twitter suddenly changed their remote login system to use OAuth instead of Basic Authentication, and my code to do Twitter updates automatically when I post to LGF stopped working.

What? They did tell everyone, repeatedly, that they were going to change it? Oh. OK, my bad.

Anyway, the purpose of this post is to test my new OAuth-based Twitter code. It could also be looked at as an open thread, if this stuff is Greek to you.

If you should ever need to know how to access Twitter from a PHP script, here’s a blog article I found very helpful: Posting from an RSS feed to twitter using OAuth.

DoJ sues Sheriff Joe Arpaio

The U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday announced it had sued Joe Arpaio, the controversial sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona, for failing to turn over documents in a probe of whether his aggressive operations against illegal immigrants had violated civil rights.

The litigation came two months after a Justice Department lawsuit halted a tough new Arizona immigration law, which Arpaio strongly supported. The new lawsuit is unrelated to the immigration law and stems from an investigation into the sheriff's immigration enforcement operations. The department said it was the first time in 30 years a police agency had not cooperated in a civil-rights probe.

"The actions of the sheriff's office are unprecedented. It is unfortunate that the department was forced to resort to litigation to gain access to public documents and facilities," said Thomas E. Perez, assistant attorney general for the civil-rights division, in a statement.

I got my e-mail notice today (9/2) for changes effective two days ago (8/31).
So no, they didn't tell everyone.

Not right wing. Not left wing. Just twits everywhere. /

8 Charles Johnson  Thu, Sep 2, 2010 12:16:03pm

What the hell is wrong with these people?

At a gut level most left-wing environmentalists know that they’re liars. Intellectually they might have somehow convinced themselves that Mother Earth is in some sort of man-made peril, but deep down inside where the truth won’t be denied, these liars know they’re lying — know that the “green movement” is all about a sinister political agenda to put them in the position of insect overlords in charge of we rubes who stubbornly refuse to let go of the idea that Marxism is a bad thing.

A case of projection on steroids. The anti-science right wing raging out of control.

I don't believe this is the first time, he's been investigated for years. I'd love to see him gone but I'd rather see the people of Maricopa Co. toss him out on his ass.

I know he's been investigated, but apparently this time, he's stopped cooperating.

"Mother Nature" is simply going to react by destroying civilization as we know it. We help push the environment towards certain conditions, and then our civilization and culture fail to adapt. Mother Nature does not care.

Well, if he's committed crimes-- and I am pretty sure he has-- he should be prosecuted. A corrupt cop is bad enough, but a corrupt cop who's also a politician is terrible.

Are civil rights (as a legal construct not a moral one) extended to citizens or everyone regardless of citizenship?

To be clear I'm not asking/arguing what is right. I am asking how far legal protections under the civil rights act extend.

Yep.

Constitutional rights apply to all people in US jurisdiction.

They apply, as a rule, to people within the borders of the US, regardless of nationality, citizenship, or anything else. You are the beneficiary of full constitutional protections if you are within our borders, no matter what.

That's going to come as a shock to a hell of a lot of Christians.

I'll say again, if someone's personal statements about their own religious convictions mean absolutely nothing, then a lot of Born Again Christians out there are fucked.

I guess the real christians are those that pass judgment on other christians?

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Matthew 7:3

26 webevintage  Thu, Sep 2, 2010 12:42:09pm

One of the comments from the CBS Coulter is an ass story:

I do not always agree with the manner in which Coulter puts her views out there, but I do agree on this point. Obama is a Socialist/Athiest. He has very little true Christian values and this does enable him to make the choices he makes. He is able to be a pragmatist and pull himself out of situations that are heart-felt. Did I vote for him- NO. but I do believe he has a sense of impartiality when it comes to religion- he doesnt have much of it so he can come across all lines impartially. He could care less either way so that can be good when it comes to the Middle East, but bad when it comes to Christmas for the kids. honestly, a little candy is a gift from God so why not enjoy it Obama!

WTH?
Obama is taking Christmas candy away from the little childrens?

Think of the Children people.....

If Jesus was to return, I have to believe his reaction to most modern Christians would be something like this.

Would you accept Khorne the blood god as your Eternal Savior? No math involved and the sermons are short.

The Raving Freakazoid is at it again, this time on yesterday's FoxNews show:

Beck: "We have been setting up re-education camps. We call them universities"

In the clip, he equates American universities are "just as dangerous with indoctrination of our children as these terror groups [Hamas] are in Iran or North Korea". He goes even further by referring to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' call for re-education on the healthcare debate as Maoist.

You do have to wonder if the various sets of Chaos Lords have conventions and gather somewhere. Have a few drinks and start exchanging stories about what silly things their followers do, how they conned a particular city or civilization into obedience, or simply to compare the shortcomings of the opposing Lords of Law.

[Link: arstechnica.com...]

Yes, I did see that - but it doesn't really apply to the way I'm using it. I'm using browser-based OAuth, not desktop client-based. The main issue is that it's relatively easy to grab the "secret" tokens out of a desktop client.
