The website of the Dove World Outreach Center has been pulled from the Internet by the web host, Rackspace.

Dan Goodgame, a spokesman for the San Antonio, Texas-based web hosting firm Rackspace, told AFP the evangelical Dove World Outreach Center church had, “violated the Offensive Content section of its Acceptable Use policy.”

The policy forbids content or links to material that is “excessively violent, incites violence, threatens violence, or contains harassing content or hate speech; and creates a risk to a person’s safety or health, creates a risk to public safety or health, compromises national security, or interferes with a investigation by law enforcement.”

I'm surprised it took them this long.

I'm waiting for the censorship card to get played. It seems to get played a lot in cases where it actually isn't.

Good going on the host's part, in my opinion.

Good for Rackspace.

It's really tempting to rent a forest service air tanker for this event, and dump a few thousand gallons of water on the Book-B-Q ... wash, rinse, repeat.

Probably wouldn't go over well, but a boy can dream.

My first reaction was hooray! But I guess that Silver Dragon is right, now we have to hear about censorship. I really get tired of how capable the right is of framing everything to fit their agenda.

I actually came by to post a link to an old lady blog. I didn't know if anyone was interested but it made me laugh. Of course I'm an old lady too. But this is some good stuff and I hope you enjoy it.

Keep up the good work Charles. Blog posts seem to coming rapid fire like. Good information on the Bigot Brigade. Let sanity reign!

I love Margaret & Helen! Thanks for the reminder, it's been months since I've read them.

This is not censorship. This is a privately owned business choosing not to do business with a customer they consider as potentially dangerous to their business and others.

The front-page image on Drudge right now is a mob of Afghans burning the American flag, alongside this story and others saying that major news outlets in the USA won't distribute images of the Koran burning.

Lovely, Mr. Drudge. Your coverage will sure calm everybody down.
Not.

Did the Dove folks ever get a permit to actually burn the books?
I thought the fire marshal had said he would not issue a permit...not that that would stop folks like this, but just wondering.

No permit, but they say they're going ahead anyways.

I do wonder what excuse the morons would use to justify their blatant bigotry if Park51 weren't on the table.

From MargaretandHelen:

"If you vote Republican today, what exactly are you voting for? It’s certainly not smaller government. If you vote Republican today you are telling “Pastor” Terry Jones that fifty religious fanatics are more important than any chance for world peace. You are telling Sarah Palin that when it comes to the presidency - pretty is more important than smart. You are telling Glenn Beck that honesty isn’t really necessary if you have your own cable news show on Fox. You are telling Michele Bachmann that hearing voices in your head isn’t cause for alarm. Hell, if you vote Republican today you might as well just shove a few more dollars in Rush Limbaugh’s pockets and a few more pills in his mouth. It’s all very entertaining, I’ll give you that. But considering what they did when we gave them the keys to the car the last time, are you really ready to put them behind the wheel again so soon? I’m just not sure there are that many more countries we can bomb, world religions we can vilify and oil wells we can drill before the rest of the world calls us on our bullshit.

That is one sharp 80-something gal. My Rush-loving Dad needs to meet her.

In that case there may be a surprise in store for the idiot "pastor" and his followers. He would look good in linked bracelets.

Better late than never, but good for them for having the guts to stand up against hate speech.

Florida administration bans churchs plan of Quran burning

Gainesville officials say book burnings like the one planned by the Dove World Outreach Center are prohibited under the city's burning ordinance. Interim Fire Chief Gene Prince further warned Wednesday that the church would face a fine if it went ahead with the burnings.

The Dove World Outreach Center had announced the planned Quran burning last month on Facebook and urged other religious groups to join "in remembrance of the fallen victims of 9/11 and to stand against the evil of Islam".

“We only did it because we felt there needed to be an outcry against Islam, because Islam is presenting itself as a religion of peace,” explained Senior Dove World Pastor Terry Jones.

Despite the warning from officials, Jones, who has written a book called "Islam is of the Devil", sent out an e-mail saying the church would still burn Qurans.

re: #15 elizajane

See, here's the rub though. The other side of the political aisle isn't making itself out to be any more of a palatable alternative.

So we're left to vote the smart way. For individual candidates whose records and platform we most trust/align with. . .not treating our vote as if it's for a any party as a whole.

re: #9 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

I totally agree with you, but that isn't how it's going to be framed. It's going to come out as the dirty liberals are censoring those good conservatives. I don't know how they keep getting away with BS like this, but they do.

24 Bubblehead II  Thu, Sep 9, 2010 12:39:19pm

I wonder if Rackspace also hosted his other web site, islamisofthe devildotcom? Can't connect to it and this is the return I get from openDNS.

Hmm, islamisofthedevil.com isn't loading right now.

The computers that run islamisofthedevil.com are having some trouble. Usually this is just a temporary problem, so you might want to try again in a few minutes.

This will make it more difficult:

Fox News says it will not cover burning of Quran

And again, it will prove exactly how full of shit those "good conservatives" really are.

On one hand, I sorta dislike that his host pulled him. On the other hand, that's their prerogative per their terms of service. It's not like he won't be able to find other hosting. If Ogrish can get hosted, anything can get hosted.

Yeah 1 host pulling you doesn't mean you're being censored. It's no different than those who own a radio station firing a radio host over something they said. Rackspace isn't telling them they can't promote their hateful bullshit, just that they can't do it on their servers.

Doesn't bother me that his host pulled him, the host could be exposing themselves to ruinous internet attacks

Just like if I own a restaurant and some dude in a Klan outfit shows up, I don't have to seat him, so these guys don't have to host psychos

I'd ask her to adopt me if my mother (who turned 80 last Saturday, woo hoo!) weren't still alive. Crusty, salty, and probably a lot of fun to be around.

 Frank says:

Mr Zappa, I am astounded at the courtesy and soft voiced nature of the comments of my friend, the Senator from Tennessee. I can only say that I find your statement to be boorish, incredibly and insensitively insulting to the people who were here previously, that you could manage to give the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States a bad name, if I felt you had the slightest understanding of it, which I do not. -- - Senator Slade Gorton
