Westboro Baptist Cult to Take Over ‘Burn a Quran Day’

Wingnuts • Views: 3,651

If you’re disappointed that psycho preacher Terry Jones called off “International Burn a Quran Day,” no worries! Because the evil freaks of the Westboro Baptist cult are ready to carry the torch.

Westboro Baptist Church, the small Topeka, Kan., church that pickets funerals of American soldiers to spread its message that God is punishing the country for being tolerant of homosexuals, has vowed to hold a Quran burning if Gainesville’s Dove World Outreach Center calls its off.

“WBC burned the Koran once – and if you sissy brats of Doomed america bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center until they change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it (again), to clearly show you some things,” the church announced in a news release this week.

15 Ming  Thu, Sep 9, 2010 3:42:46pm

People who support Koran burning, it seems to me, really would love to see more violence in the world. I'm all in favor of living a secular life and not being intimidated by extremist Muslims, or for that matter extremist Christians or extremist Jews. This is completely different from going out of one's way to provoke people, including many decent Muslims who are not violent and do not deserve to have their feelings hurt. The FBI is right to be concerned about some of America's right-wing extremists.

18 That's Mr. Donald Trump To You  Thu, Sep 9, 2010 3:44:11pm

You know, my people looked into developing a trailer park in Westboro called "Trump Mobile Estates" but it didn't get past the planning commission. They wanted it named "If You Don't Live Here Then You Are A Fag Who Will Burn In Hell Mobile Estates." Such a name would have blown the signage budget so we passed on the deal.

Yes. It was kind of a perfect storm spiraling out of control. The more media coverage the story received the more newsworthy it became. I think the MSM started to notice they were fueling the fire by excessive coverage and I think they'll be happy to take this opportunity to jump off the merry go round.
I'm looking forward to the MSM panel shows discussing how their irresponsible coverage almost led to an international incident.

Heard one better from a wingnut buddy of mine. Jones claims that it'll "take time" to work out the details of the move, so the Park 51 folks claiming that they're not is just a smokescreen, a way that Rauf can keep from looking bad in front of his backers.

re: #88 WindUpBird

It was political, it was absolutely political, when a church funds political speech, that's politicial

And if you think their only motivation was to fight for their moral tenets, I've got a bridge in brooklyn you can buy with no money down

"It was political"....... a statement

"it was absolutely political"..... a statement with emphasis!

Now that you made that emphatic statement (which must make it true) we have your following statement.

"when a church funds political speech, that's political"

I still say it wasn't political even though you say it was. We are at an impasse.

Now, please tell me what their "other motivation" was.

Bear in mind I'm not Mormon.

Harlan Ellison tells a great story from that days of being a starving writer.
They would gather at a friends place to shoot the shit.In the days when a writer could get 5cents aword for short stories,Hubbard was obsessed with
making more.Somebody in the group tossed out the idea that the way to make real money was to start a religion. The rest is history.Lots of Harlan Ellison on you tube

Honestly - this whole thing just reminds me of the behavior of internet trolls. And the one rules is "don't feed the trolls".

This has become a new story because people have made it a news story. The WBC shows that if it had been ignored - it would have had no impact anywhere.

I don't have any solutions but it is just pointless.

I have been involved in a number of cults - both as a leader and a follower. You have more fun as a follower, but you make more as a leader!

They were funding a political proposition through the electoral process and they tried to hide how deeply they were involved with direct funding and neighborhood canvassing. Whether you think so or not, GLBT rights are a political issue, especially since Rove made them a core GOP wedge issue in 2004. The Mormon Church was up to its neck in a divisive and hate filled political proposition, and deliberately and knowingly funded ads that implicated gay people as child molesting perverts.

Non political? Bullshit.
