Christine O’Donnell and the ‘Pray Away the Gay’ Scam

Wingnuts • Views: 3,970

Christine O’Donnell, the loon who keeps on giving; as a fanatical fundamentalist Christian, she has been a persistent advocate of the bogus idea that homosexuals can turn themselves straight by accepting Jesus — even though she has an openly gay sister: Christine O’Donnell’s History Of Activism To “Pray Away The Gay”.

Here’s a revealing statement from Wade Richards, an ex-spokesman of O’Donnell’s, about what happened when he came out:

Richards says after that O’Donnell “totally turned her back on me. I never heard from her ever again. That’s been my experience with the Christian community in general. The minute I was struggling and saying, ‘Hey, listen, I don’t know really where I am with this,’ that’s when everyone really turned their back on me.”

Can I "pray away the stupid"? Because it seems that there's quite a bit of that going around.

2 Lidane  Tue, Sep 21, 2010 9:21:55am

*sigh*

This "pray away the gay" nonsense will never make sense to me. All that does is set someone up for years of therapy, guilt and all sorts of sexual and religious issues. It's how we end up with closeted politicians that have wide stances and hellfire and brimstone preachers who get caught in gay sex scandals.

These folks just need to accept that some folks are gay. There's nothing wrong with it.

Today's Republican Party seems to be a vast organized scam to make me miss Dick Cheney, an intelligent man who was willing to adapt his views to a changing world around him and was already read to support his family....

(I wish I was being sarcastic)

No shit. Cheney didn't call his daughter a heathen like Alan Keyes did. He accepted her. I have no love for Cheney but that showed that to me that he wasn't a total jerk. Honestly, this pray it away shit offends me and this coming from someone who prays. Prayer alone won't take away guilt and feelings of hopelessness.

5 Kronocide  Tue, Sep 21, 2010 9:26:24am

Why can't she pray for gays to be accepted and be at peace?

I'm going to pray for her.

///Cheney's treatment of his lesbian daughter is akin to Darth Vader throwing the Emperor down that shaft. Here you have a husk of a human being, at this point more machine than man, and yet somewhere within that artificial heart still resides some small shred of if not love, at least loyalty to ones own family.

Patient: Doc', I think I'm gay.

Doctor: Well, beat a pillow with a tennis racket while yelling at your parents and call me in the morning. This should cure you of being gay.

These people seem to be involved in a lot of voyeuristic tourism.
This brings to mind some of Zombie's photo reports.

Richards was unnerved when he went into Americans for Truth About Homosexuality’s “media room” and found copious hard-core porn—for research, naturally—as well as leather bondage gear for undercover work.

I'd like to ask this "person" (O'Donnell) a simple question:

"When did you decide you were straight?"

When she would answer something like, "G-D made me straight," I'd tell her, "Well G-D made me gay. Now, are you going to tell G-D He made a mistake when He made me?"

It might just plant a germ in that so-called "mind" of hers.

It's amazing to see the conflicting messages towards gays from the GOP. On the one hand you have the hate speech we heard at the Values Voter Summit, O'Donnell, the Montana GOP Platform, etc. Then you have GOProud, Log Cabin Republicans, Homocon/Anne Coulter, etc. Overall though they play lip service to the social conservatives (i.e. the religious-right base) and the former rather than the latter wins the day in the GOP.

Stephen Colbert Proposes Christine O'Donnell Witch Test (VIDEO)

Colbert didn't really see the big deal, writing her off as "Bielsa-curious," and suggesting that liberals like Bill Maher stop "unfairly smearing her with words she said."

But Colbert also proposed a solution to end the witch hunt: Come on his show and let him administer a proper "witch test." Unfortunately, this would involve binding O'Donnell's arms and legs and throwing her into a river.

The part of the quote that bothers me the most is that when she was struggling with her identity her friends turned their back on her.

Shunning of any kind puts the lie to "hate the sin love the sinner".

If you truly love someone you stick by them no matter what differences you have with them about how they live or what they believe.

As individuals if more Christians™ concentrated on applying their laws to themselves they would be too busy to impose them on others. That applies to Jihad and Islam too.

31 What, me worry?  Tue, Sep 21, 2010 10:06:14am

There's a gay newspaper in Miami called TWN. You can pick it up at various eateries around town. Anyway, they did an expose a few years back on something similar, a man who claimed you can pray the gay away and dragged some fellow around as proof. It was a big story at the time, but I can't find anything on it now.

When Mr. Ex Gay reverted back to homosexuality (what a shocka), the Christian community tried covering the whole embarrassing thing up. It's a good story, I wish I could find it online.

As Barry Goldwater once stated;
"On religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both.
I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C" and "D." Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?
And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of "conservatism."
Speech in the US Senate (16 September 1981)

Barry would beyond sick today as they now control the GOP.

Sadly a few Democrats will join them.
Don't want to begin to work on bringing an end to DADT because (like Lady GAGA said) in the name of "unit cohesion" it is more important to make sure bigots are comfortable.
Don't wan to support the DREAM act which would allow illegals who serve our country in the military to become American citizens.

There is so much ammo lying around from Christine and her compatriots it almost seems that the eyes cannot fathom what the ears hear. Right now it is not good for a lot of folks who have no idea WTF just happened with money and jobs and they want to know why. People like Christine are there to blow the whistle and talk "family" and "America" and the scary parts that are waiting to strip you of your rights and take the nation over. This is the NEW 101 and it's be incubating for quite a while. Truth has nothing to do with it. The scary part come when you see/watch what comes next if the party being used does not wake up and realize there is a purge going on. It may get worse.
