Plus the screams about how all who post on LGF are "Radical Progressives" in league with Barack Obama to turn America Communist.
/I wish I was kidding.
I've gone from Pragmatic Centrist, to Earth Muffin, to Loony Left over the past couple of years. Becoming a Radical Progressive is just one more label to add to my collection. I'm still waiting to be called an 'Elite'.

I wish Pelley had followed up on her "it is Ground Zero" claim.
In her mind, the landing gear through the roof made it so. That and the dust cloud that contained "human remains" I'd like her to tell us where on Manhattan she's approve of the center being built.
A Catholic mother and an Eygptian father, born in a Methodist hospital, married to a Christian and a member of the Jewish community center. Obviously the project developer is one clever Jihadi to have developed such an elaborate cover story.
The smile on her face when she heard herself referred to as a devil said it all...
What a small, pathetic, damaged human being she is. I can't even hate her. I can only pity her.
I don't pity her, because she will never feel shame or remorse about trying to demonize and slander Iman Rauf and the Cordoba House/Park51 folks and she'll never feel shame or remorse about associating with avowed white nationalists, bigots, and racists, both here and abroad.
I just wish she'd just shut the hell up and slink out of the spotlight...

Oh pick me, pick me, pick me, this catnip smoking liberal can still find it within himself to hate her for projecting an image of the exact opposite of what America should be all about to the world at large!

Gellar speaks the truth: "You're never going to shut me up."
I wish she would but don't think she will shut. Therefore I need to trust that people will see through her hateful agitprop. She's drunk with her popularity with the racists and the mask will keep falling off.
Geller is the Islamic center's most ardent opponent. Geller is a former New York media executive who writes a politically far right blog that mixes news, opinion and conspiracy theories.

I used to believe every human, no matter how damaged, can be helped to become more human and join the rest of us in respecting ourselves and our environment. LGF has shown me there are people beyond help. People so saturated with hate, so reliant on emotion, that nothing but their inevitable demise can change them.

Geller is one of those.

One of the Stalkers, "King Minos", actually tried to link mainstream anti-AGW science (and by extension Ludwig) to a lunatic from Finland named Pentti Linkola on Rodan's Diary of Daedalus. The screwball actually linked to Alex Jones' nutcase site prisonplanet.com. To be fair, several others who post there called his attention to the fact Jones is a nut and linking to him is not smart. But even so it was just stupid. The hate that some people feel towards any who disagree with them is just sick.

Thanks for posting this segment, Charles. I tweeted it, made a page about it, and then got busy with a project that's due tomorrow and totally forgot about it. Sheesh.
Truth is the new hate speech. And you and I live in so tawdry an age that just telling the truth makes you a hero. And yet, there are so few heroes. Or makes you a devil, in the eyes of the media. That's all I do is tell the truth," Geller said.

Forgetting stuff? That's a sign of advancing age...
I'm getting so old my left hand forgets what my right hand is doing.
LOL!
Much to my dismay, I began noticing a few months back that when the light hits my forearms & hands in a certain way, my skin is starting to get that old lady crinkly crepe paper texture. I don't mind my hair going gray, but the skin... *sob*
Interesting segment. Rauf may not be my kind of guy. I'm a little suspicious of him. Not quite sure of his motives or religious/political views. I can't bring myself to hate him, he's probably not a danger and i see no reason to deny him the right to build the community center there.

Just remember that it looks worse to you than to anyone else. Shaving your head is a solution to grey hair. (Even for women)

I agree with you but he did put it out there so I have to go with that. He did up the ante with his rhetoric and I really hope he's sincere about what he said.
Even if he isn't and he's got some issues... Park51 still goes there.

I'm kind of the opposite when it comes to Imam Rauf. When I hear him speak or read quotes from him I allow everything their most charitable interpretations. I have a hard time not assuming he's a man of good will when after 9/11, when part of our foreign policy was government sanctioned outreach to the Muslim world, he was one of the ones who stood up and served his country in that role (and continues to). I just can't see him doing all that work, often to an extremely skeptical audience, if he wasn't passionate about the message he was delivering, and that makes it easy to take him at his word when he claims Park 51 is an extension of that work.
A Media Matters for America review of Fox News' evening coverage of the planned building of an Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero found that, since May, the shows have hosted at least 47 guests to discuss the project, nearly 75 percent of whom opposed the center. Just nine of the guests who appeared on the evening programs supported the building, and one guest remained neutral.[Link: mediamatters.org...]
I understand your point. I don't believe those who don't totally trust Rauf (of which I may be in that group) think he's a sekrit Terror Moslim Jihadi proselytizer. I don't believe that at all. At worst, my worst fear, is much more benign than that. Me might be no worse than a dogmatic leftist anti-anything Palistinain apologist (not saying that all leftists are dogmatic Pali apologists or are evil).
But given that, if he is, it's not enough to change my opinion on Park 51. Rauf is moving on past 51 with his rhetoric and I want to believe he truly believes what he is saying and will follow through with it much as some of the things he's done that you note. I have to for lack of evidence to the contrary. I hope my subtle mistrust is unfounded and will disappear, but if not no big deal.
Charles has done lots of explaining why he's abandoned the radical right. The question should probably be, why is anyone far enough right to support people like Geller, or to accept her obvious bigotry as simply stating a fact?
And by the way, the center is going to be built, the money will be raised, and she will be the main reason it will be built.
Not a bad thing, certainly not what she intended--but because of her making it a cause celebre, donations will pour in from across the country. They should dedicate a floor to her.
Can you imagine how long it would take to raise 100 million just on the basis of logical need, and a picture of the warehouse? Geller accelerated this process tenfold. I'll bet they raise the money within two years.
Here's how we know that she's entered the diagnosable realm. She's a media expert, according to 60 Minutes. So she should be aware that by bringing attention to her issue, she's either going to stop the project, or she's going to be the reason the project gets done quickly. By leaving it alone, the developer would have to raise the money in anonymity. Leaving it alone might have been the best strategy to stop it from happening.
the point where he says he does not hold his faith accountable is where the problem is. none of the 'good' muslims ever speak out against the evil amongst them!

I get suspect that you are going to believe what you want to believe and no matter how many moderate Muslims speak out you will not listen. You won't even consider the Muslims that died on 911, those that serve in the military, and those that even worship in the Pentagon as shown on this video.

How about you put up some arguments with some intellectual honesty, facts, and logic, rather than simply pandering to base emotions, then we'll give you a fair shake...otherwise, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

THE PRESIDENT: Imam, thank you very much. Thank you for inviting me. I bring my personal respect to you, sir. And I appreciate your friendship. I do want to thank the governors of the Islamic Center. I welcome the Ambassadors. Thank you all for coming. I appreciate other distinguished guests who are here. It is an honor to join you at this rededication ceremony.
[...]
Men and women of conscience have a duty to speak out and condemn this murderous movement before it finds its path to power. We must help millions of Muslims as they rescue a proud and historic religion from murderers and beheaders who seek to soil the name of Islam. And in this effort, moderate Muslim leaders have the most powerful and influential voice. We admire and thank those Muslims who have denounced what the Secretary General of the OIC called "radical fringe elements who pretend that they act in the name of Islam." We must encourage more Muslim leaders to add their voices, to speak out against radical extremists who infiltrate mosques, to denounce organizations that use the veneer of Islamic belief to support and fund acts of violence, and to reach out to young Muslims -- even in our country and elsewhere in the free world -- who believe suicide bombing may some day be justified.
[...]
We know this because of the 8 million people who braved threats and intimidation to vote in Afghanistan. We know this because of the nearly 12 million people who cast ballots in free elections in Iraq. And we know this because the world watched as the citizens of Lebanon raised the banner of the Cedar Revolution, drove out their Syrian occupiers, and chose new leaders under free elections. Even now the hope for freedom is felt in some dark corners in the Middle East -- whispering in living rooms, and coffee houses, and in classrooms. Millions seek a path to the future where they can say what they think, travel where they wish, and worship as they choose. They plead in silence for their liberty -- and they hope someone, somewhere will answer.
So today, in this place of free worship, in the heart of a free nation, we say to those who yearn for freedom from Damascus to Tehran: You are not bound forever by your misery. You plead in silence no longer. The free world hears you. You are not alone. America offers you its hand in friendship. We work for the day when we can welcome you into the family of free nations. We pray that you and your children may one day know freedom in all things, including the freedom to love and to worship the Almighty God.

Back to the FEMA Camps for you!
Just watching "Boardwalk Empire". It's kind of annoying how they show Big Jim Collosimo killed in January 1920, when in fact he was killed in May. Just a minor quibble from a history buff. Good show, though.

On occasion I post on a few blogs that are rather hostile to what I have to say... it's an important part of life to deal with those who are different, or even with those who are obnoxiously idiotic.
We had to say "dickety" back then because the Kaiser had stolen our word "twenty", I chased that scoundrel for dickety two miles before I got tired and gave up...

No kidding. I stay away from hate sites (like HotAir, FoxNation, etc.) but I do drop in on creationists once and a while, and also on some science blogs when I think the blogger errs.
Why do all pro mosque peeps always refer to Bush like conservatives love Bush...I supported Bush because he went after our enemy and did not give blanket support on every issue..
Probably because the point being that even someone like George W. Bush at least would have supported the Mosque and may currently support or maybe he doesn't stick to his guns anymore.
Of course as you so kindly proved to us all "bush wasn't a real conservative"/
For more eamples see deficit spending and growing the government...
You might try thinking about listening to what Bush said. It might do you some good. While we're on the topic of assumption it's a gross mischaracterization to see support of Park 51 as being left wing. Freedom of religion and supporting the 1st Amendment is an American position.

Also last time I checked its us leftists job to believe that people's hard to define "feelings" are "more important than the 1rst amendment" at least that's what people keep telling me whenever we talk about Hate Speech/Crimes...

I didn't approve of everything Bush said or did in office, but he was the President, just as President Obama is the man in the big chair at this point.
It just so happens that President Bush was on the right side of the Constitution, common sense, and history in his support of "moderate" Muslims, such as Imam Rauf and this re-dedication of the DC Islamic Center.

Good question. Some people want to go places that are comforting to them, some people want to go where there's action, excitement, something happening.
Some people go to shitty dive bars that smell like piss but the beer is cheap and the bartender lets you slide till the end of the week. Some of us go to the library or gym.
There's been a few times I've actually felt uncomfortable here but it was probably a good thing.
There was a leftward shift to this place a while ago. It wasn't any one force or thing, but it happened. So what, no big deal. From where this place was it was probably healthy.

Hey, maybe it's Pamela Geller as a sock?
Hiya tits! toots!
The Culexus Assassins are the most sinister, feared, and hated of all Imperial Assassins. They are null-entities in the warp, their unnatural lack of a presence inspiring even in non-psykers a sense of unease. To psykers their mere presence is terrifying, invoking panic. In the confusion caused by this fear, the assassin can move in on its target and eliminate them. To purely psychic entities like daemons, they are invisible.
Geller came off like a radical hate monger. The people she is accusing of being what she is came off as kind, gracious and civil.
The Imam and developer are the sort of Americans and well just plain human beings I would rather associate myself with than a raving loon like Geller.
That part about if there was another attack on America that he hoped he would be the kind of Muslim/person to be the barrier between radical Islamists and the rest of society was very moving. Well said sir.

I'm no "liberal", in the pejorative sense of the word in the current right-wing lexicon, but there were a lot of posters who have since departed or were shown the door that were bigots, racists, or just plain old sociopathic assholes...and most of them claimed to be "conservatives".
LGF is supposed to be anti-idiotarian and pro-common sense...the Legion of the Damned was bringing the level of rational discourse down to subterranean levels at times...I don't wish them bad luck or harm, but their karma's gonna catch up to them one day.
I don't miss them either and I'm glad that dynamic is gone. We can say 'liberal' here now and not have it be a pejorative or badge of honor unless you make it so.
Now if we can get back to a time when 'conservative' is not a pejorative then maybe I can call myself one, otherwise I'll have to think of something else. All the other good labels are taken.
My lesson was going to be this. Al-Qaeda does not represent Islam. No more than those that who would choose to think that Kahanism represents Judaism or the Army of God and The Lord's Resistance Army represents Christianity.

Man, it just seems like I used to log on and we'd have these great discussions going about Hillary Duff and Team Jacob vs. Team Edward, and now all anyone wants to talk about is politics.
Sheesh.
Does anyone here even know what date Zac Efron's next movie is coming out? I doubt it.
Play it thru once, then just keep the save before you exit the vault the first time. You can redo your whole character just before you leave.

She's still got money after all the boozing and partying?
She made quite a lot with interviews after they let her out the first time. And she's still on track for that Linda Lovelace biopic, Inferno, if you can believe that.
Also remember that $300,000 bail means the cost is $30,000 for the bond. The bondsman puts up the rest or at least is on the hook for it.
Cool.
The most common problem was the traders spawning without a caravan guard. For whatever reason, loading from a save from before you left the small cave connected to the Vault caused it.
Needless to say, they didn't live long.

The U.S. government said Sunday it made an "honest mistake" when it displayed an inverted Philippine flag — which wrongfully signified that the Southeast Asian nation was in a state of war — in a meeting hosted by President Barack Obama.
The Philippine flag was displayed upside down behind President Benigno Aquino III when leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations met Obama in New York on Friday.
"This was an honest mistake," U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Rebecca Thompson said in a statement, adding, "the U.S. treasures its close relationship and close partnership with the Philippines."
The American embassy will find out how the "unfortunate" incident happened, she said.
Funny isn't it? I mean. Who would have thought that all of these so called John Galts engage in uniformity of thought. You would think each Galt would have a different opinion. Instead, these guys are like buying a can of Coke at the grocery store. They all taste the same.

Most people aren't original and take their direction from others. That's one thing Ayn Rand was correct about. But its possible to be unoriginal and be a good person and she never seemed to understand that.
And thus the need for creative sauces to add the flavor when roasted.

At about 1/2 way through they show a graphic from Geller's blog labeling the Taj Mahal as a mosque. Lol
Technically, there are several mosques on the grounds of the Taj Mahal. However, I seriously doubt the Manhattan Project is going to end up looking like that. Which really is a shame, the Taj is heartbreakingly beautiful.

I read that as 'worship the Pentagon', and was thinking, "I don't care how gung-ho you are, I don't think Islam ALLOWS that..."
I suppose so. I just got sick of typing out "the community center with a mosque in it which is several blocks from Ground Zero".
I was just joshing you. The Manhattan Project being the name of the official atomic bomb project during WWII. That too had its own ground zeros. I settled with Park51.

No, no, I know what it was...private joke.
I've been using it for weeks, this is the first time people have picked up on it.
Now, other personal joke from Book of Eli--as they go rowing up to Alcatraz, I announced cheerfully to my husband, "On the Rock, you shall build your church!"

BTW. Trembling Before G-D has been on Hulu for several months now. I think you went to a counter protest in SF to that sometime ago? They were protesting the Out in Israel film festival just because, well, you know.
Description for others:
Built around intimately-told personal stories of Hasidic and Orthodox Jews who are gay or lesbian, this documentary portrays a group of people who face a profound dilemma.

The Out In Israel protest was some other movie IIRC, but I've seen Trembling Before G-d. Very well done.
Now, in connection with Book of Eli, and last night's overnight thread quote, one book I would love to see turned into a movie is Octavia Butler's The Parable of the Sower. Also a post-societal-collapse setting with a religious theme, but very, very different.

the U.S. is a great nation and all, but even if we wanted to and we had a trillion dollars to play with, we couldn't build something new and different that would echo down the centuries as the Taj Mahal has.
We are a pragmatic people, and the Taj, and the great cathedrals of Europe, are acts of faith written in stone. Whose faith doesn't seem to be the controlling factor in how great the building ends up being, seen as a work of art.
Whatever else our legacy may be, we do have the Lincoln memorial, the moon landing, the Panama canal, the airplane, the transistor, the photography of Ansel Adams, some music styles, and the Declaration of Independence to our credit.
the U.S. is a great nation and all, but even if we wanted to and we had a trillion dollars to play with, we couldn't build something new and different that would echo down the centuries as the Taj Mahal has.

But great devotional architecture, no.
Like Sparta, we build our monuments in men, not stone.
That is, thank God, the only thing I think we really have in common with Sparta.
I didn't realize how ugly Pammy was until I saw her in HD tonight. She's nearly as ugly on the outside as she is on the inside. If anyone's interested, go read the comments that her fans left at the CBS news website. What a bunch of morons.
Gellar speaks the truth: "You're never going to shut me up."
That's not a good thing to say in New York or almost anywhere else. There's always someone willing to shut a particular person's mouth permanently; the issues are (a) finding them and (b) agreeing on how much to pay.
Not that I advocate such measures, for the record.

She's not a bad-looking woman, but she's falling into the trap that awaits a lot of right-wing female pundits (the farther right they go, the more it takes over. Peggy Noonan, for example, looks quite nice). The oversexualized, flinging-your-hair-around, who-cares-if-I'm-fifty-I'm-wearing-a-miniskirt look.
You have to be Cher or Tina Turner to pull it off well.

Pam would love to think there was a price on her head, but I sort of doubt it.

The internet is going to do more for the coming centuries than any single building ever could, just saying
Not all architecture is comprised of bricks and wood
Laughing so hard I'm crying. I didn't realize your alter ego has a French maid outfit.
Tres cute.
ahah thanks :D I have a bunch of outfits that go with the bird gear, that's sort of midrange for outlandishness ^_^; It's sorta like beign a raver, but with a backstory
In every language, the first word after "Mama!" that every kid learns to say is "Mine!" A system that doesn't allow ownership, that doesn't allow you to say "Mine!" when you grow up, has -- to put it mildly -- a fatal design flaw. From the time Mr. Developing Nation was forced to read "The Little Red Book" in exchange for a blob of rice, till the time he figured out that waiting in line for a loaf of pumpernickel was boring as f*ck, took about three generations. ... Decades of indoctrination, manipulation, censorship and KGB excursions haven't altered this fact: People want a piece of their own little Something-or-Other, and, if they don't get it, have a tendency to initiate counterrevolution.
