Climb aboard the Geller crazy train:
On Fox, Geller falsely claimed Obama gave “seminars in Sharia finance” a week “after he nationalized some banks.”
On MSNBC, Geller falsely claimed NYC mosque is scheduled to open on 9-11-11.
Geller absurdly compares NYC mosque to building a KKK “shrine” near black Alabama church.
On CNN and The O’Reilly Factor, Geller falsely claimed the NYC mosque would be “looking down on the sacred ground of Ground Zero.”Geller: Obama “is a third worlder and a coward” who’s “appeas[ing] his Islamic overlords.”
Geller: Liberal Jews are “lost souls,” “self-hating wretches.”
Geller on Obama’s Israel policy: “Jews Refuse to Get on Obama’s Trains.”
Geller on transgender Obama appointee: “What a freak show this presidency is.”
Geller: Obama “wants jihad to win. That’s what he is doing.”
Geller called Democrats “National Socialists.”
Geller: Senate Democrats supporting health care reform voted “to rape the American people.”

You’ll stop laughing when the Democrats start looking safe and Pamela Geller, Sarah Palin, and Andrew Breitbart are called on to give the play-by-play on Fox’s Sunday football games:
Breitbart: And Smith throws another interception…that ball wobbled like an ACORN in flight.
Geller: It’s a conspiracy…President Obama’s Muslim Brotherhood hacked the signal from Singletary’s microphone and called that play to hurt the Jews.
Palin: Well, it’s no secret the Broncos are pallin’ around with terrorists.

Speaking of fear and sanity, we’ve found a neat way to the Stewart/Colbert rallies. Amtrak runs a sleeper train from NOLA through Birmingham. If the price isn’t hideous, we’ll commit in the next couple days. (Plans are for a city-wide rally afterparty, if they can get enough DC bars to commit a chunk of the take to an educational charity.)

This morning driving to jury duty, I heard this story about celebrity on NPR.
Some of the points apply to Geller:
“For a long time in our culture, there was an emphasis put on working hard [and] contributing to your society,” he says. “Now it’s not about that anymore. It’s about the bling and how quickly you can get it without working.”[Link: www.npr.org…]

This description of Alinsky’s tactics (from discoverthenetworks) sounds like what’s been happening with the socons on the Texas SBOE.
But Alinsky’s brand of revolution was not characterized by dramatic, sweeping, overnight transformations of social institutions. As Richard Poe puts it, “Alinsky viewed revolution as a slow, patient process. The trick was to penetrate existing institutions such as churches, unions and political parties.” He advised organizers and their disciples to quietly, subtly gain influence within the decision-making ranks of these institutions, and to introduce changes from that platform.

I’m sure he did as well as working alongside them. But heck, so does the right. That is they also borrow ideas from Alinsky himself, Mao, Marx, etc. Sometimes this doesn’t happen on a conscious level but is just a reflection of shared or common human conclusions. The same reason why some people might see socialism in the teachings of Jesus.

It has nothing to do with cooler heads. The Republicans want people to envision this when they think of a mosque:
Image: 11baghdad_wideweb__470x306,0.jpg
And they want people to think that’s what New York or Tuscaloosa or Des Moines or Cheyenne will look like if a mosque gets built…anywhere.

I got roped into doing a couple of major things to try to put together a HS reunion next summer - namely, I need to try to find about 120 who are NOT on facebook and notify them of the reunion plans, plus there are about 50 people for whom there is NO contact information whatsoever from the last reunion, that I need to try to find.
I don’t know how this happens, that I get talked into this stuff.

It will…as soon as Republicans regain the majority and can blame deficits on the irresponsible tax cuts pushed through by the Democrats.
Tax cuts used to be something that Republicans strongly approved of in certain circumstances and at certain times.
Now they’re an article of faith. There is no bad tax cut (except by Dems) and there is no good tax hike EVER. This simply isn’t how sound policy is fashioned. Some Republicans—Snowe, Collins, a few others—know this, but they’re either afraid to speak up or just ignored.

So many people these days, including Pamela Geller, can only speak in talking points. Interviewer makes reference to criticism, she immediately replies Islamic Supremacists’ agenda. It’s like Pavlov’s dog, there is no thinking. What makes me especially mad is that 99% of those interviewed on TV are the same. They might not be as hate filled as Geller but they just spew out the same trash and talk past the interviewer. There is no political discourse anymore. There are simply regurgitated mind-numbing mantras.

method, Islamic slaughter. Ugh.
The Sharia term for halal slaughter is dhakat. Dhakat is to slaughter an animal by cutting the trachea, the esophagus, and the jugular vein, letting the blood drain out while saying “Bismillah allahu akbar” — in the name of Allah the greatest
Where are the PETA clowns and the ridiculous celebs who pose naked on giant billboards for PETA and “animal rights”? They would rather see people die of cancer or AIDS rather than see animals used in drug testing, but torturous and painful Islamic slaughter is OK.
You IDIOT. Do you you know how kosher slaughter is done, you freaking EEJIT, you am ha’aretz? Let’s check with Wikipedia, shall we?
Mammals and fowl must be slaughtered in a specific fashion: slaughter is done by a trained individual (a shochet) using a special method of slaughter, shechita (Deuteronomy 12:21). Among other features, shechita slaughter severs the jugular vein, carotid artery, esophagus and trachea in a single continuous cutting movement with an unserrated, sharp knife, avoiding unnecessary pain to the animal.
Oh, and you pray as well.
DUMBASSERY! Pam, do you have any idea how many websites there are out there denouncing kosher slaughter in the same terms for the same reason? And do you have the vaguest idea what NON-kosher or halal slaughter in a big packinghouse looks like?

In Sunni communities, for a long time, it was common to buy kosher meat from Jewish butchers. There were a number of reasons, but one was that because kashrut is somewhat more stringent in some points than the Muslim process, it was assumed you were getting meat that had been very properly slaughtered if you got from the Jews.

Slivovitz, I think. I wonder if you could do a slivovitz-based chilled cocktail.
Thing about Slivovitz - even good Slivovitz - is that it leaves yo with a real barnburner of a headache. Worse than bad Russian vodka.

We are out in the valley, you can’t live here in 818 without a/c!
My husband and I went to the drugstore this evening, and browsed the aisles while we cooled down in their air conditioning. It was very nice. At home, we just got a fan.

Slivovitz! Thank you lizards (SFZ & imp_62).
Just found this:

1 tsp. Sugar Syrup
1/2 oz. Lime Juice
Club Soda
Instructions
Shake ingredients -except Club Soda- with ice, pour into a highball glass and fill with soda. Garnish with a plum slice.

I now it bakes in L.A. I once had a summer job installing iron gates in Beverly Hills during a nasty heat wave in the south. Good money but vicious heat. I grew up in Sonoma County and during the summer months there, it also bakes, though in my experience, LA takes the cake for California. I’ve been to Bakersfield in the summer as well, and in addition to the intense heat, there’s also that Central Valley ingredient that adds to the misery.

One of my cousins managed to deliver a coded speech at my grandma’s funeral, about talking to her about his sexuality, shrouded in references to not liking Fresno.
The whole family got it, and the ninety-year-old priest didn’t. Everyone was happy.

OK, this phone needs to hurry up and finish being charged so I can go to sleep.
Look for siblings, and for parents if they’re still alive. It’s amazing how many people my HS found for our 15th and 20th reunions just by using the phone book, particularly how many kids’ parents were at the same addresses.
