O’Keefe Crony: ‘It Was Humor’

Wingnuts • Views: 6,830

James O’Keefe’s crony Ben Wetmore gave an interview to Esquire’s Marty Beckerman, and he says the attempted “seduction” of CNN reporter Abbie Boudreaux was all just a big joke.

ESQ: People are accusing you of misogyny and worse. What did you hope to achieve?

BW: It was humor. There was a joke to it — James isn’t a lothario of sexual conquest at all. It was going to be awkward, not sexually aggressive. It was meant to be outlandish and ridiculous. When you dissect and sterilize a joke, it’s not funny anymore — when you read the transcript of an SNL skit, you’re not going to laugh, but you do when it’s performed. It seems one way in print, but the video would’ve looked very different.

Wetmore also brushes off criticism from conservatives; he thinks they should be grateful to him and O’Keefe.

ESQ: The conservative establishment isn’t happy about this scandal.

BW: Name a conservative issue that’s been passed in the last fifty years without provocation. Conservatives are deficient on tactics, so of course this is their reaction. But it’s like the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid — was it a better movie because they were outgunned and no one came to their aid? Yeah.

Are there any psychologists out there who need to write a paper on malignant narcissism? Here’s a perfect subject to study.

Wetmore? Sex jokes? They just write themselves at times, eh?

Wingnuts and moonbats have their senses of humor and irony surgically removed at the start of their 'careers'. It's SOP.

So what would they know about funny?

I'm confused.

What do dildos and lube have to do with the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?

I'm fairly sure they were being pursued by the Bolivian Army, not Madonna's Blonde Ambition tour.

...when you read the transcript of an SNL skit, you’re not going to laugh, but you do when it’s performed.

Bullshit. A good sketch is still funny on the page.

These assholes wouldn't recognize comedy if it sodomized them.

This is what happens when fratboys get cameras. I think O'Keefe will quietly disappear from "news" reporting now. He lacks an instinct for real stories and the personal integrity to execute investigative reporting.

It's obvious. He was playing a movie in his head while he was responding. No doubt he also visualizes cartoons while driving down the street. Sounds a bit like some type of ADD.

BW: It was humor.

If it was humor why is nobody laughing?

9 HappyWarrior  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 9:35:39am

I knew Butch Cassidy and the Sundance and you sir are no Butch Cassidy or the Sundance Kid. Gosh dude just admit that you and your friend O'Keefe acted like immature jacaksses. What on earth does conservative politics have to do with embarassing a female reporter with dildos?

10 Gus  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 9:36:12am

Yeah.

That's right conservatives. Listen to Ben Wetmore. He's an expert on tactics of which this was a perfect example of one that the GOP should adopt.

... after we edited it to humiliate the woman using a sexual situation.

It's funny, get it? There'd be a women, and James would make her really uncomfortable by being sexually aggressive and weird. You know, like how funny it is when you just stare at a girl on the bus while grabbing your crotch-- hilarious shit like that!

The conservative establishment has been infiltrated by a bunch of dumb frat boys. This comes as no surprise considering that it is led by a bunch of dumb men: Rush Limbaugh, Michael Steele, and Glenn Beck. And that's just the short list.

If you need special tactics and provocation to pass your issues, perhaps you have an unpopular stance on the issues.

15 nines09  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 9:40:49am

Nice line of reasoning. They did all this just to have a laugh. I still spell creep the same. He's a creep. I think there was intent to defame and slander. I hope Abbie spends some time making him very uncomfortable. In court.

I don't know. I thought he would have wised up after actually being arrested for bugging Mary Landrieu's office. I do like your comparsion of him and his friends to frat boys. This guy just seems to be immature as hell. He's a dumbass.

I hate to overuse the R word, but this may, in fact, be an attempted rape as some critics charge. What, exactly, was he intending to do?

I do that too, but in my defense, I don't think CNN reporters are Elmer Fudd.

Amazing. The utter lack of social decency and self awareness is stunning.

This was not a prank.

There is nothing amusing about luring a woman under false pretenses to a boat that has been supplied with sexual toys, pornography, bondage restraints and condoms.

That is usually known as pre-meditated sexual assault.

This pervert belongs behind bars, and I have a feeling he will get there soon enough.

Uh, big NO. There was no humor. No joke. It was clearly an attempt to try to embarrass this woman in some way. Not humorous; and not a joke.

These folks need serious and long-term help.

Their plan seems to have been to entice CNN with a piece of news that their "racism against whites" would make impossible to resist. One idea they had in their script was a video of Rep. John Lewis crossing the street to the Capital Building where the n-word could be faintly heard in the background (the audio having been doctored by O'Keefe and friends). They imagined that Abbie Boudreaux would have been so invested in getting this story that she'd then tolerate O'Keefe's sexual harassment.

Later, after CNN aired their doctored clip, they would pounce, proving that it was fake and also they'd release the video of the "love boat" encounter to humiliate Boudreaux. Their endgame is that all of this would discredit CNN and Boudreaux on scale of Jason Blair, prove CNN's anti-white racism and show that CNN uses attractive women reporters to seduce and entrap interviewees.

From the script:

13. The "joke"

The joke is that the tables have turned on CNN. Using hot blondes to seduce interviewees to get screwed on television, you are faux seducing her in order to screw her on television.

14. Acting and adaption

As the operation is going on, James will have to adapt and adjust to her mood and her reaction. If she is pulling away, withdraw and pull her back in. If she's unsure, comfort her and reassure her. Vacillate between somewhat serious interview and the come-hither persona as needed in order to confuse her judgement and also keep her on the boat.

She wants to do the interview, she spent thousands of dollars to do the interview, she is invested. Our job is to make sure she doesn't run away or break too soon. You want to make sure you have plenty of video and pre-reveal moments before the reveal, and not to proverbially "shoot your load" before the catalytic moment, the big reveal for her. So keep her hooked and use hot-cold and push-pull kind of psychological tactics in order to keep her in the skit.

Even Ned Beatty saw the hillbillies coming.

Now if we were talking about them being glory-holed by comedy, it'd be a different story.

29 butterick  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 10:04:55am

I know this is shallow and ad hominem but have you ever seen a person who looks more like a literal weasel than James O'Keefe? It's a mean spirited, pinched, nose-in-your-business face and I have a hard time imagining it doesn't somehow reflect the man who wears it.

30 brownbagj  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 10:45:05am

I have to say, if he had tried this to any woman I know, he would tote an ass whippin.'

Straight up.

31 webevintage  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 10:50:20am

Of course it was "all a joke"....

That is what bullies and creepy stalker assholes always say when they get caught.
Or "she deserved it"/"was asking for it".

There is nothing funny about trying to ruin someones reputation to make a point.

(I won't even comment on how creepy O'Keefe and his friend now seem and wonder how far they would have gone with this "joke".)

32 theheat  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 11:02:07am

If these freaks were dogs, they'd starve to death because they would never stop licking their own balls long seek food or drink. These are some seriously weird fixations they have.

To all the teaparty moms and Momma Grizzlies and repressed hypocritical fundies: stop making your kids grow up to have such fucked up ideas about sex. You are the reason your creepy kids are so weird, they're repellent.

This is like the quasi-political version of the show "Jackass".

Painful looking and somewhat sickening to watch.

36 MinisterO  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 12:41:51pm

I still can't find any coverage of this at FoxNews.com. Nothing at all. From this I deduce that it's a hoax perpetrated by CNN on its gullible liberal audience.

Seriously.

God, these pathetic excuses for human beings are just beyond the pale. WTF? I can't even wrap my head around what an incredibly degrading, sexist, disgusting "prank" they thought this was supposed to be.

Of course, there will be people who buy this "prank" bullshit wholesale, and they'll call the reporter a humorless feminazi bitch for being offended and horrified by it, when had it happened to their own wife/girlfriend/daughter, they'd be ready to beat these assholes into next week for doing it.

39 Flavia  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 4:29:16pm

Another little fact none of these stupid little jerks even bothered to consider: O'Keefe is pretty much without any sexual attractiveness whatsoever*, so how did they expect this to work at ALL?? Reading the notes, they actually take it for granted that he is in any way appealing!!

As the operation is going on, James will have to adapt and adjust to her mood and her reaction. If she is pulling away, withdraw and pull her back in. If she's unsure, comfort her and reassure her. Vacillate between somewhat serious interview and the come-hither persona as needed in order to confuse her judgment and also keep her on the boat.

Sure! He's just so suave, so sophisticated, so mentally & emotionally adept that he'll be able to overcome his physical shortcomings w/no problems whatsoever! (rolling eyes)

Yes, I know that I am coming off as petty, but, even if he were even slightly above average attractiveness, the arrogance is astounding!!

(*Ok, I'm sure someone, somewhere, may find him so, but no one I know.)

40 ClaudeMonet  Fri, Oct 1, 2010 1:39:56am

While I find his "plan" incomprehensible and his excuse that it was a "joke" as implausible as it gets, a question occurs to me--Is there any known evidence that this assclown has ever gotten laid? Has he ever made love to a sentient human being and not just his hand?

41 wheat-dogghazi  Fri, Oct 1, 2010 7:15:51am

It was humor. There was a joke to it — James isn’t a lothario of sexual conquest at all. It was going to be awkward, not sexually aggressive. It was meant to be outlandish and ridiculous.

If I were an absolute fucking idiot, the first thing I would consider before meeting a CNN reporter would be to stage an elaborate "joke" scenario of seduction on my fucking sailboat. And the second thing I would consider would be to actually invite her onto the boat.

Narcissism? Maybe. Total disconnect from acceptable social behavior? Probably. Methinks Jamesy spends too much time alone on that boat.
