GOP Candidate Paladino to Reporter: ‘I’ll Take You Out’

US News • Views: 7,964

Carl Paladino, the GOP’s psycho candidate for Governor of New York, is in the news today for threatening a reporter.

Sunday’s Post featured a front-page story about Paladino’s wife, Cathy, and his ex-lover, Suzanne Brady. It included an exclusive interview with Cathy Paladino.

“You send another goon to my daughter’s house and I’ll take you out, buddy!” Paladino told Dicker.

When Dicker asked how he planned to do that, Paladino replied, “Watch!”

“Are you threatening me?” Dicker asked.

When the candidate’s aides jumped in to separate the men, Paladino, referring to Dicker, told them, “F- -k him.”

Hey, if you want to get a building put up on schedule, you got to bang a few horses now and then, am I right or am I right?

Welcome to the modern GOP. We threaten countries, reporters, people and pretty much anyone that challenges us on anything we say.

To be fair, this guy is not the face of the modern GOP. Rather, he is the anus of the modern conservative movement.

I knew of a construction company named "Get it Up Construction."

No Kidding.

It was in California.

I'm not sure, is it against the law to threaten a reporter in New York? They've got some weird laws you know.

Whoa there cowboy, he may be in the anal cleft, but let's not crown him the anus just yet, too many contenders for that particular crown.

i fail to see how this would hurt him. I think reporters should stay away from pol's family's, as a general principle. Especially is the pol doesn't want the attention focused on their family.

The emails don't bother me either, who friggin cares whats in his email box?

Judgement and personal conduct are crucial components of an individual's fitness for public office. A pattern of behaviour which indicates lack of sensitivity or even outright sexism and racism is probative. How or even why one went through a divorce can be of interest. Nobody forced this buttweasel to run for office. Everybody knows the scrutiny that comes along with a campaign.

There's a whole lot more to the story, and it relates back to the Post trying to dig up dirt on Paladino's illegitimate daughter (born to a woman in the course of an extramarital affair). Paladino doesn't like the Post digging into his background. Dicker frequently writes for the Post, and this exchange should be seen in that context as well.

Of course, Paladino goes ahead and makes a baseless claim that his opponent Andy Cuomo had an affair and looks like a raving loon.

Dicker has been in the business of reporting Albany politics for a good long time - he's dug up dirt on anyone and everyone in Albany, including breaking the story about Gov. Paterson getting free Yankee tix. He's a bulldog when it comes to getting into a story so I find Paladino's claims that Dicker is a heel for Cuomo to be without merit.

re: #14 bluecheese

Dicker didn't do anything to deserve that nonsensical reply - a direct threat.

Paladino lashed out at Dicker because of a perceived slight by the Post for going and finding that Paladino had an out-of-wedlock kid (so much for family values). And then he threw in a baseless accusation of adultery against Cuomo for good measure.

23 nines09  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 10:42:43am

Why Palidino's just fooling around! You know, like he fooled around on his wife! What a kidder! Hey! He has a kid from fooling around! What a card! HAHAHA! Hey, I'll send you an Email, it's a HOOT.

re: #14 bluecheese

Sure. Why should we care who he truly is? Maybe holding a public office? Maybe making policies that affect millions?
Saying his opponent cheated on his wife with no evidence while he did? Where do I stop caring?

25 Petero1818  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 10:48:56am

Paladino is hardly the first politician to be targeted for extramarital affairs and it is pretty much a given that if you run for office, that is gonna come out if it is in your background. As for photographers outside his 10 year old daughter's house, it is perhaps overstepping what is appropriate. The story can be told without a picture of her, and if Paladino denies it, then get the picture. But, at the end of the day, Paladino shows (once again) why he is totally unfit for office. He is a total street thug. To tell you the truth, I am not sure why Italian Americans are not up in arms over this stereotyped portrayal of an Italian mafia construction thug just as they were over the Sopranos. This guy is made for TV.

Seriously? Is what you're saying is, this is a racist hothead that likes to watch horses hump - is that it? Somehow, it seems too early in the day for me to take all that in.

Dicker's scorecard of going up against gubernatorial candidates and advisers for Assembly speaker is quite good:

[Link: blog.timesunion.com...]

Dicker has outlasted all of them - and the quip to remember is this one, courtesy of Conservative Party honcho Michael Long:

How do you say Carl Paladino in French? It’s ‘Pierre Rinfret’”

Rinfret was a putrid candidate and got slammed by Cuomo in the general elections. His name came up as a reminder of just how bad the GOP has been at picking candidates, but of course a few weeks after Long made that quip, he turned around and gave his party's blessing to Paladino.

Something else to keep in mind - Tom Golisano came across as an upbeat moderate/independent who was sounding the alarm on the economy in Western NY and didn't manage to win in his 3 runs for office, so how's this angry, unpolished, combative, and dislikable sourpuss of a guy like Paladino going to fare?

At the end of the day, figure that Dicker will again outlast Paladino...

Exactly right. One of his camp described his affair as "a youthful indiscretion." That means, according to his daughter's age, he was 54.

I prefer a grown-up as my governor.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the picture.

New Yorkers, please correct me if I'm wrong on this, but isn't the Post a Murdoch paper and conservative by NY standards? If that's the case, how could Paladino think anyone from that paper is out to get him? Wouldn't that be more likely with a Times reporter?

Or isn't state government worthy of coverage by the great, imperial Times?
