O’Donnell’s False Oxford Claim Found on Second Website

Wingnuts • Views: 8,637

When the false claims about her education posted at LinkedIn were discovered, GOP anti-wanking candidate Christine O’Donnell said the information was posted by someone else.

Unfortunately for O’Donnell’s rather transparent attempt to cover up a lie with another lie, now another site has surfaced where the same claims were posted — by an account verified as belonging to Christine O’Donnell: O’Donnell’s Oxford Education Claim On Second Website Was Authored By Her, Says Site Spokesman.

On Thursday, the Democratic National Committee pointed out a second O’Donnell Internet profile also lists the candidate as having studied at the University of Oxford (O’Donnell took a course with the Phoenix Institute on Oxford’s campus). On a Zoom Info entry, the Delaware Republican is described as having received a “Certificate” in “Post Modernism in the New Millennium” at the University of Oxford. The entry, as noted in the top right corner, was “User Verified.”

Resume websites are notorious for scraping information from other sites, which would raise the possibility that the ZoomInfo entry was merely a duplication of what appeared on LinkedIn. But O’Donnell’s biography is described differently in each. And a spokesman for Zoominfo told the Huffington Post that the company has a policy of not grabbing information from its main competitor.

“We scan the web to pull most of our info so it is pulled from a variety of sources just as a starting point,” said Matt Lloyd, a ZoomInfo spokesperson. “We will look at news articles and a variety of different things. We do not actually pull from LinkedIn. LinkedIn has some strong privacy laws and they are our competition so we have been pretty rigid about not taking information from them.”

So where (if not LinkedIn) did ZoomInfo get the false information that O’Donnell attended Oxford? Lloyd said it came from the candidate herself.

“The profile was actually claimed in 2008 which means that she has verified the information and updated it,” he said. “Anyone can go in and claim a profile and update the information… She claimed it in 2008 and then, as I mentioned, we are going out there and looking for stories about her that we probably pulled in. But the education material would have probably been pulled from her own update back in 2008.”

Problem is that these types of revelations only serve to further harden the resolve of the arm waving lunatics already predisposed to vote for her. I give it 30 minutes before this is turned by her campaign into some sort of dark, liberal tainted witch hunt persecution of O'Donnell.

Might this more modest claim actually be true? The claim, implicit in the other web page, that she had a degree from the University of Oxford, is of course false.

If she was "at" Oxford, and she did receive a "certificate", then this is not the best proof available that she's a flagrant liar.

Unfortunately for her, it's not the only proof available, either.

Obama aide Emanuel to run for Chicago mayor
White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, one of President Barack Obama’s most powerful aides, is planning to step down on Friday to pursue a run for Chicago mayor, sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

Obama is to make an announcement at a White House East Room event on Friday. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs would not confirm Emanuel is the subject of the announcement but the sources said Emanuel’s announcement would come on Friday.

Pete Rouse, a senior adviser who is one of Obama’s longest serving aides, is expected to take over the chief of staff position for the time being. Gibbs would not confirm this, but said Obama would be making two announcements and he spoke warmly of Rouse.

“Pete has been with Senator-elect, Senator, President-elect and now President Obama,” Gibbs told reporters. “There is a complete loyalty and trust with somebody like Pete.”

Emanuel, who worked in Bill Clinton’s White House in the 1990s and served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois, has made no secret of his interest in the mayoral bid.

As chief of staff, he holds broad sway over the White House policy strategy and even over who gets to meet with the president.

I'm sure Breitbart really wants a lawyer going through all his correspondence as part of the discovery process in a libel lawsuit. Especially when it will be the lawyer for the other side of the suit.

Funky stuff going down in Ecuador. Ecuadorian President Correa issued a state of emergency and claimed that there was a coup attempt. This all started because police are pissed that the President tried to reduce their benefits and rioted. Some threw tear gas, and the President was overcome by the fumes and taken to a hospital. The country was thrown in to chaos as the police demonstrated:

President Rafael Correa was taken to a hospital after being overcome by tear gas thrown by rebellious officers, local media reported.

Correa later declared a state of emergency and said he was considering dissolving a deadlocked Congress. “It’s a coup attempt," he said in an interview with Radio Publica de Ecuador.

The rebellious officers fired tear gas and burned tires after taking over barracks in the capital Quito, Guayaquil and other cities. They also set up roadblocks that cut off highway access to the capital.

Schools shut down in Quito and many businesses closed due to the absence of police protection.

...

The striking police were angered by a law passed by Congress on Wednesday that would end the practice of giving members of Ecuador's military and police medals and bonuses with each promotion. It would also extend from five to seven years the usual period required for before a subsequent promotion.

When you go to the funeral you are there for the survivors, not the deceased. Survivors of suicide need as much or more support than others. By avoiding those funerals you are depriving the survivors of your support.

Going to the funeral of a suicide in no way condones the action.

Funerals are for the living. Survivors (friends and family) of a suicide could use the support.

Not going is always a valid choice, though.

A few years back, my Uncle's second wife got a call that her Uncle was killed.

He lived on a farm with his wife of 40 something years. Neighbors hadn't seen either of them for a few days and went over to check on them. They found his wife going around doing chores and asked where her husband was.

"Oh, that son of a bitch is dead."

She had woken up one morning, grabbed the shotgun, shot him as he slept, wrapped his body in the bedding and put his body in the closet. She then about her normal routine for the next couple days until the neighbors found her and then they called the cops.

Linda McMahon, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Connecticut, suggested Thursday that the U.S. ought to take a second look at the federal minimum wage.

"The minimum wage now in our country, I think we've set that, so there are a lot of people have benefited from it in our country, but I think we ought to review how much it ought to be, and whether or not we ought to have increases in the minimum wage," McMahon said at a press conference.

After the event, "McMahon admitted she didn't know what the current minimum wage is or if any of her employees at World Wrestling Entertainment are paid it," CTNewsJunkie.com reported. McMahon was CEO of the WWE before launching her Senate campaign....

Off topic post for old car and drag racing fans. My friend Ted just set a personal best run in his bone stock 1963 Lark with the optional supercharged R3 engine. Here's the "perfect run" as described by another Studebaker fan. (BTW, Ted is 76 years old, and is in the Hot Rod magazine drag racing Hall of Fame for setting national records since the 60's ")

" The conditions were just right, just perfect, as a matter of fact, for this phenomenal fifth and final run. To wit:

(A) It was now 8:47 in the evening and the temperature was down to 48 degrees; plenty of cool, dense night air for the R3.
(B) The relative humidity was at 74%, not bad, and, furthermore, measured with his gauge too close to the ground, on which dew was settling and could create a false reading.
(C) They had just prepped the track after someone burped at the starting line. They used a propane-fired scraper to heat and clean the track, so the track surface was considerably warmer than the ambient air temperature.
(D) When the speed dropped below 110 MPH on Run #3, he had concluded the blower belt was slipping. So he had removed that belt and thoroughly dressed and installed a second, better-looking, belt before Run #4.
(E) Finally, of course, the R3 was getting limbered up as a fresh engine, with more runs on it.

Ted did a burnout to approach the line for Run #5 and said he couldn't believe how good it felt; excellent bite. He had been coming off the line at 2,500-2,800 rpm, but decided to go for broke and drop the hammer at 3,500 RPM and see if the tires would bite and launch without bogging.

That they did superbly, he said after the run. No bog, no tire spin, the R3 just hunkered down and grabbed asphalt and hurled the car forward with such force that he posted an outstanding 1.845-second 60-foot time.

The launch felt so good he decided he had a chance for the 12.40s, so he wound it up to 6,200 rpm before each shift, whereas he had been shifting at 6,000 rpm, max, all evening. (freshly rebuilt, certified stock engine)
It was a beautiful run to watch; a terrific launch, great shifting, and seemingly (and in fact), no mistakes.

I watched the lights at the end of the strip intensely as he tripped the quarter-mile. When they lit up with 12.203 and 114.16, my jaw dropped incredulously.

We together examined the official timing slip and discovered the astonishing 60-foot time and an eighth-mile performance of 7.882 seconds and 89.40 mph....at the eighth-mile post, for Pete's sake! Never had the car been in the 7s in the eighth, never. "

The car had just made a dyno pull of 374 HP at the rear wheels, not bad for 304 cu.in's since that translates to about 450 at the flywheel.

Anti-intellectual, anti-science. Will put the US behind many of the 2nd world countries in research and publishing. I suspect it will be soon that papers published by non-Americans will outnumber those by Americans.

I think it is important that my children also be taught that disease is caused by small creatures living in the body which feed on sins and that the Earth is the center of the universe and the stars are nothing more than holes in the firmament thru which God's power shines.

When Oliver Willis, who writes for Media Matters, tweeted that "@andrewbreitbart's crew strikes again," Breitbart shot back, "'@andrewbreitbart's crew'? do you want to get sued for libel?"

I am not a Media Matters fan. But saying I will sue you? Pussy.

Especially when you read the end of that story, where Breitbart has said he pays O'Keefe to post at his site, and that his last post was less than a week ago . . .

Breitbart's hoping that if he lies loud and frequently enough, people will forget that he was proud to count O'Keefe as one of his own. That is, until he does something stupid. Then he'll probably disown him for a couple of weeks until people stop talking about the latest incident. Then he'll be right back on Breitbart's sites, taking Breitbart's money . . . but he's not part of Breitbart's "crew" and he'll sue you for saying that!!!

Sam's is arguably the best sushi in Northern California. Thursdays are barracuda day. I only go about once a month or so, as it runs about 40 bucks a person by the time you're done eating.

Pretty much everything else I eat is locally and/or sustainably harvested. We get our eggs from a local farm, beef from local ranchers, vegetables from local farmer's market...even our vodka is locally distilled (Hangar One)

It's fun to watch and most of the racers are middle aged and real sports. One post on a GTO page was a example. The guy was paired against Ted's Studebaker in the shoot out and said it was bad enough to be beaten by a Studebaker, but by a 76 year old racer too. You seldom see a dozen Studebakers and Rambler or two running against the typical muscle cars.

Are we raising a generation of nincompoops?

Second-graders who can't tie shoes or zip jackets. Four-year-olds in Pull-Ups diapers. Five-year-olds in strollers. Teens and preteens befuddled by can openers and ice-cube trays. College kids who've never done laundry, taken a bus alone or addressed an envelope.

Are we raising a generation of nincompoops? And do we have only ourselves to blame? Or are some of these things simply the result of kids growing up with push-button technology in an era when mechanical devices are gradually being replaced by electronics?

Susan Maushart, a mother of three, says her teenage daughter "literally does not know how to use a can opener. Most cans come with pull-tops these days. I see her reaching for a can that requires a can opener, and her shoulders slump and she goes for something else."

Lawyer Gloria Allred, who represents Santillan, on Thursday released a copy of a 2003 letter from the Social Security Administration that she called "the smoking gun or smoking document" to prove Whitman knew her housekeeper was working illegally in the United States.

Its only a matter of time before she moves on to mashed potatoe sculptures.

Geller uncovers imaginary "Tumbling Star of Davids" in Park51 design

she announces that the "Islamic supremacists get more bold and naked in their motive." While Geller is content to play Magic Eye with artists' renderings in order to argue that the people behind Park51 are anti-Semites, in the real world, Imam Rauf reportedly said that he can "confidently assert that I am closer to my Jewish and Christian brothers...than the Muslim militants carrying a narrow view."

Geller has a long history of finding secret hidden messages in otherwise innocuous images. She has discovered imaginary Islamic crescents in the 2010 Nuclear Summit logo and the design of the Flight 93 memorial. In March, she claimed that a preponderance of "purple" -- actually blue -- neckties on Democratic officials meant that Obama and Democrats were "Flying The Gangsta Colors At The White House." However, if Geller wants to win the race to the bottom for finding absurd architectural reasons for opposing Park51, she'll have to work harder to outdo NewsBusters' "chilling" revelation that the center has four sides and is shaped like a building.

Geller's proclamation that the design includes "tumbling Star of Davids [sic]" is not the only laughable part of her post. After continuing to push the insane idea that Park51 is a "triumphal mosque," Geller claims that non-Muslims will have to pay an "exorbitant jizya" - which she describes as a "tax on non-Muslims living in Muslim lands" - in order to become members at the center.

Following in the tradition of noted idiot Jim Hoft, Geller excerpts a New York Times article that disproves her point:

WASHINGTON (By Robert Schroeder, MarketWatch) — Companies would get a break on payroll taxes for creating new jobs in the United States under a bill coming up for a vote in the Senate this week.

To get relief from the employer share of the Social Security payroll tax, companies would have to certify that a new U.S. worker is replacing an employee who’d been working overseas.
The Fed’s next steps

Jon Hilsenrath discusses the likelihood that the central bank will move gradually if it decides to act again to stimulate the economy.

Not so. The yokel talking head on Lubbock's Channel 11 managed to mispronounce all 3 names at least twice in the space of 1 minute at the introduction of tonight's broadcast: "PaluNdino," "Rye-uhm Emmanuel, and Andrew "COO-mo."

I'm wondering what she'll make out of "Netanyahu" or "Ahmedinejad." Probably just say "Israel's prime minister" or "Eye-ran's leader." For that matter, some of the yokels habitually confuse "Israel" and "Israeli," referring to the country itself by the latter denominative term. I'm not really a stickler for this kind of stuff but there has to be some kind of threshold for tolerating gross ignorance. The inversion is a very classic sign of dyslexia (forget I said that, the one thing they tell you from day one is that you aren't qualified to diagnose). I would do some extensive testing, and see what the school can suggest.

Main thing to remember with an IEP is that it's only as good as the people using it. If it just sits in a file, it's not much good to anyone, at least until college. It should be something that makes the kid's life easier, not harder.

Steve is much closer to you than I am. I believe I know a couple of your fellow law students, though. One just started this year, the other (a good-looking, incredibly smart female) has been there a year or so.

We're waiting to hear back now how to proceed further, ADD and Dyslexia have both been hinted at, but like you, they don't want to diagnose it. The teacher and the school resource teacher both agreed she could use the assessment and I put my request in writing at our conference yesterday. I'm going to be a pain in the ass until I get her in a program and see progress.

re: #311 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

We just got the ball rolling yesterday afternoon, and the person we needed was out sick today. We've already got the authorization thru our healthcare to get her initial assessment done whenever we want, but I want to see what the school will do before I schedule her appointment. I don't want to duplicate or use up any benefits I might have and find out later the school needed it done a specific way to get her the help she needs.

Good idea. I've seen parents go through random shrinks, and companies, and sometimes what they produce isn't good. If the school guides you, the odds of everything being compatible goes up.

re: #315 SanFranciscoZionist

Maybe it was her presentation. Or the fact that we were trapped with her for FOUR hours.

Oh, I can imagine that. My sense of humor is pretty warped too, though :)

re: #311 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

That sounds like a good plan. We happen to have a very pro-active school so the process hasn't been too bad for us. As SFZ said, though, keep on top of the school once its in place.

"COO-mo" is Limbaugh's "intentional" mispronunciation.

Didn't know that. Now we know where the talking heads get their background. They'd probably have a litter of kittens if somebody mispronounced "Palin" though.

Hmm, good idea. I suggest Pal-lin, as in "Palin' around with terrorists" or "Palin' around with secessionists".

Hard to imagine what Republicans see in Christine O'Donnell, except that she's white and attractive. It sure works for Palin.

Definitely be a pain in the ass. The pain-in-the-ass assertive parent is the child's first defense against being dropped through the cracks. The kids I've seen who really didn't get the best out of their IEPs tended to have parents who:

1. Were uneducated
2. Didn't speak English well
3. Were scared of the school
4. Didn't want to upset anyone
5. Were unable to get their act together
6. Had situations that made it impossible for them to meet with the teachers and admin (work, other kids, etc.)

(Any combination of these is, of course, possible.)

Of course, it is possible to go a little too far in advocating for your child. There's ONE mom I'm specifically thinking of here...oh my GAWD.

+1000 updings for this.

You should be on a first name basis with the principal as well. Preferably on good & friendly terms, but nonetheless.

328 Kragar  Thu, Sep 30, 2010 3:59:56pm

Just got the call back from the school. They're going to have an inital IEP plan set up for her by the end of next week and they'll be doing a full assessment from there within 60 days. Once I have their data, I can take that in to the Dr under my health benefits and they can attempt to diagnose ADD or other disabilities and come up with treatment from there.

Is there anything else? I'm being totally serious here.

Given how low GOP standards are these days (Paladino, Angle, Paul, etc.), it seems that if you find a white spokesmodel who smiles pretty while she's shoveling out the far-right talking points, you'll immediately convince a bunch of starburst-addled morans she's a serious candidate and that you're a serious political party.

No, not really. . and I'm basing that on the comments supporting her at some of the usual suspect right wing sites. All I hear about is how the the left fears her because she's a strong, beautiful, woman. Over and over. It's the boilerplate rebuttal to any criticism of her.

re: #328 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

If you haven't already read it, I recommend strongly that you get the Wrightslaw book From Emotion to Advocacy. They also have a book out on IEPs. ([Link: www.harborhouselaw.com...]

If you are in the US and you are dealing with a public school system, you need to be as knowledgeable as possible about IEPs. Some public school systems will parse and define you to death. Others simply don't know how to write IEPs with S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely). A bad IEP will say, "Jack's reading level will increase." A good IEP will say, "Jack is currently reading at a grade level 2.6. Using [specific techniques or programs], Jack will be reading at a grade level of 3.1 by the end of the 2010-2011 school year. We expect to see Jack's reading level increase by .1 each month. The IEP team will meet quarterly to assess Jack's reading progress."

If Jack is young enough, the IEP should also specify that since he can't read well enough yet, he can't be expected to read cursive. This is commonly overlooked by parents and others with common sense, since common sense dictates that a child who can't read or who has trouble reading words/letters by definition has trouble reading cursive, but some teachers say, "well, it doesn't SAY that he can't read cursive in his IEP so therefore he has to read it the way I write it on the board." &c.
