Keith Jarrett: All The Things You Are, Hamburg, 1982

Music • Views: 7,202

This is a 1982 live recording of a Keith Jarrett solo concert in Hamburg, Germany, in which Keith totally reinvents the jazz standard “All The Things You Are,” in a mind-blowing improvisation that takes the tune places it’s never been. The audio track isn’t great, but the performance definitely is.

Anti-Semitic preacher to address London conference

An Islamic preacher from Nigeria who refers to Jews as “the lowest creatures on earth” who “only understand the language of killing” is set to speak at a London conference on Wednesday organized by an anti-Israel campaign group.

The preacher, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, is head of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and will be a guest of the Islamic Human Rights Commission at their London Al-Quds Day, an annual demonstration in support of resistance movements against Israel.

The IHRC says that the one-day “Spirit of Islamist Activism” event, held at the Islamic Centre of England in northwest London, will discuss “the major challenges to the revitalization of faith and practice in the modern world with internationally renowned scholars and academics.”

Peace!

I first came to Germany in 1988 and tried to find a bag of ice cubes to put in the beer cooler. Nobody seemed to know what I was talking about.

Then Wal-Mart started carrying them, and I fell on my knees in front of the cooler chest to give thanks to God and Sam Walton (my wife pretended not to be with me).

In any case, they have become available at most large supermarkets and gas stations now.

When I lived in Canada for a short time, I would have a drink in a pub. They would put about 3 cubes in my glass. I over fill my glass with ice. I made sure to let them know after the first time. I also ordered Canadian Club. The bartender said "A Rye and coke"? I said no, CC. This went on for a couple minutes.

Wow. How much does West Virginia Senate candidate Joe Manchin have to distance himself from the Obama administration? This much:
Gov. Joe Manchin has scheduled a press conference Wednesday morning where he is expected to announce that the state is filing suit against the federal government over the Obama administration’s crackdown on mountaintop removal coal mining.

Any more distancing and Manchin will switch parties.

Rep. Tierney's wife to plead guilty to hiding her brother's offshore gambling business

The wife of Massachusetts lawmaker Rep. John Tierney (D) will plead guilty to charges that she helped her brother conceal what authorities say was a multi-million dollar illegal offshore gambling business.

Federal prosecutors said Tierney's 59-year-old wife Patrice Tierney is expected to plead guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Boston to four counts of aiding and abetting the filing of false tax returns, according to a report from The Associated Press late Tuesday.

Robert Eremian, Tierney's fugitive brother, and another sibling face charges including racketeering, money laundering and operating an illegal gambling business.

Oddly enough it's the combination that does it...if I eat too much red meat and drink too much alcohol at the same time I get an attack. I quit drinking almost entirely because I developed Type II so I only eat things that aren't terribly good for me. Although I've cut down on starches quite a bit, and tend to eat a bit more protein than I used to now. Hoping I can keep it in the diet, exercise, pill stage for as long as possible.

I'm still working out what triggers attacks. I think eating spinach actually contributed to the last one. My real suspicion is that there are a number of factors contributing a little bit of irritation and a flare-up occurs when I eat a combination that pushes the irritation level over a certain threshold. Sort of like the way my allergies seem to work.

Hillary is the natural choice for the next nominee, unless another Obama comes along to upset the apple cart. POLL: Dislike of healthcare law crosses party lines, 1 in 4 Dems want repeal

Healthcare reform is hurting the reelection chances of freshman Democrats in the House, according to The Hill/ANGA poll.

A majority of voters in key battleground districts favor repeal of the legislative overhaul Congress passed this year.

President Obama predicted in the spring that the new law would become popular as people learned more about it. But the poll shows Republicans strongly oppose it, independents are wary of it and a surprising number of Democrats also want it overturned.

Is the issue pressure, or motion in general? Curious since something like a stationary bicycle would possibly work for doing motion without necessarily a lot of weight bearing. I guess swimming would be another option if it is readily available. Does your doctor have any opinion regarding what a good exercise program for your condition would entail?

I was going to suggest that, or ask his doctor for a referral to a physical therapist or personal trainer who can develop an exercise program specifically to address any issues.

Jerry Brown's Castro Trouble

Meg Whitman isn’t the only gubernatorial candidate with a legal skirmish in her past. Cuba expert Ann Louise Bardach reports that Jerry Brown violated U.S. sanction law during a trip to Cuba by using a CIA turncoat as a travel agent. Similar sanction violations were prosecuted extensively by George W. Bush. Plus: never before reported details of Brown’s mojito-fueled conversations with Fidel on topics from Elian Gonzalez’s future to Hugo Chavez’s role in Venezuela; Brown’s four-hour limo ride with Fidel; the double agent who booked Brown’s travel; and Brown’s later concerns about breaking the law.

Brown spent some quality time with Castro? What a shocker!

I've tried it twice. The first time worked until they realized my wife has a blood issue and she lost them. The second through the frozen, which really lowers your chances, and they didn't take. Personally I never really wanted offspring but the spouse does and I'm all about doing my part to make her happy.

OTOH, I did have a very minor issue with the whole "playing god" thing. I figure the fact I made it almost 40 years of a very active sex life with zero pregnancy scares means the universe would prefer it if I didn't breed.

What the yahoos don't understand is that guys like Romney know how to emphasize issues important to Dems like health care. People need to remember he was Gov of Massachusetts ... Arguably the bluest of states. But People there were willing to vote for a moderate like Mitt. If he believes Romneycare was/is good, he SHOULD defend his record and stand up to the yahoos.

I agree. You would think that the extremists in either party would understand that applying litmus tests to guys like Romney (and Guiliani) cost them candidates that might have greater appeal to the middle of the spectrum.

But they value idealogical purity more than anything else, so instead they make guys like Romney eat all of his Massachusetts positions and turn him into a weathervane with no integrity. It's sad. And it isn't confined to the GOP: there is a certain amount of whining on the Dem side about candidates who were insufficiently gung ho on HCR.

I have always thought that it was clear that American national politics was, at its heart, a battle for the hearts and minds of the moderate 30% of the electorate. I have always thought that the point was fairly obvious, and as a result I have never understood the extremists that would alienate the moderates in their pursuit of purity. But this year it seems like those lessons have been unlearned, and may not even hold. How any primary voter thinks that the way to capture the middle thirty is to put forward Angle or O'Donnell or Paladino simply escapes me.

That's the nature of the primaries - where the most engaged and the most active parts of the respective parties can and frequently turn out to be the fringes - which then determines the party nominee particularly during the early primary/caucuses. They want ideological purity, despite the fact that doing so would alienate 60% of the electorate right off the bad. Rather than attempting to run a moderate from the outset, you get candidates tacking left and right (depending on the party) for the primaries only to reverse course during the general election campaign - setting both up for claims of lying, misrepresenting, or otherwise flipping on key issues.

Angle may well win in NV because of dissatisfaction but O'Donnell and Paladino wont (and based on recent polls, Paladino keeps showing himself to be down 20+ points, and that's before the latest round of his lies and smears).

It's also what lessons the parties take away from the wins or losses. If they lose, the TP may find that instead of learning to run towards the middle with more moderate candidates, they'll claim that they didn't do enough to get their base-far right out out, which will put them at a disadvantage in 2012.

You are exactly right. It is so frustrating to watch. How do the primary voters not get what they are doing? I suppose you can't blame the candidates, because every time one of them tries to stand up and defend their moderate positions they get trounced. So they do what works.

He would have lost by as great or greater numbers because he's done nothing to warrant anyone's vote - he hasn't won an elected position in years and got trounced in his last statewide effort (as replacement for Rudy in the senate race v. South Park Doing NASCAR Parody For Season Premiere

South Park, entering its 14th season, is quite possibly one of the most controversial and ingenious television shows of our generation. From touching sensitive political topics to online video games like World of Warcraft, there aren’t many subjects that the writers of South Park aren’t willing to mock or criticize, chiming in with their two cents. In essence, they just say what we’re all thinking in our heads. (Well, some of us anyway).

Needless to say, we were excited when we saw the trailer for their upcoming season premiere which airs tonight, Wednesday, October 6th. Is there any sight better than seeing Cartman strapped into a NASCAR and hitting the track? We didn’t think so.

“Don’t worry, Butters, I’ve learned everything I can about being poor and stupid. I’m ready for NASCAR.” Hopefully they won’t just beat a dead horse with the same stereotypical jokes about NASCAR and its fans. But we expect only the worst out of South Park while looking forward to the episode.

Must see TV tonight!

Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide: "The U.S. Is Now Experiencing the Beginning of Its End"; Improvement and Change in the Muslim World "Can Only Be Attained Through Jihad and Sacrifice"

In one of his recent weekly sermons, titled "How Islam Confronts the Oppression and Tyranny [against the Muslims]," Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Muhammad Badi' accused the Arab and Muslim regimes of employing tyranny against their peoples, of avoiding confrontation with the Muslims' real enemies – the Zionist entity and the U.S. – and of disregarding Allah's commandment to wage jihad against the infidels.

About the U.S., he said that it is immoral and therefore doomed to collapse, and that it is "experiencing the beginning of its end and is heading towards its demise."

Badi' added that the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations have proved to be pointless, and accused the Palestinian Authority of selling out the Palestinian cause, adding that the PA's days are numbered. He also stated that the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza are preparing for a third intifada, and called on the mujahideen in Gaza to be patient and persist in their jihad, because Allah is with them. Finally, he urged all Arab and Muslims to unite in support of the resistance, for "resistance is the solution," and exhorted them to have faith in the Koranic promise that Allah would deliver the infidels into their hands, even if they are weak at the moment.

What a nice tolerant group of folks.

Here's an interesting tidbit from the NY-23 Congressional Race. Looks like Doug Hoffman, who forced GOP nominee Scozzafava to withdraw in last year's race but ended up losing to Bill Owens, has himself withdrawn from the race in November.

Conservative House hopeful Doug Hoffman’s abrupt decision Tuesday to abandon his bid for the House of Representatives — and endorse the Republican challenger — gives a boost to GOP officials hoping to take back the North Country seat they lost last year.

Hoffman, a Conservative Party candidate, had been vying for the seat from New York’s 23rd congressional district against Republican Matt Doheny and Democratic incumbent Bill Owens.

Owens won his seat in the House during a special election against Hoffman and Republican Dede Scozzafava last November, after former Republican Rep. John McHugh became secretary of the Army.

In a statement, Hoffman said he was pulling out of the race because he didn’t want to split the Republican vote on Election Day. Hoffman threw his support behind Doheny.

Instead of withdrawing last year- he split the vote and lost the district for the GOP because he was cashing in on the anger of some district GOPers over how Scozzafava was selected by the party. Had Hoffman withdrawn last year as he is now doing, it's likely that the GOP would have held the seat.

Briana Ojeda had an asthma attack Aug. 27 while playing in a Carroll Gardens park. Her mother was racing the wrong way down a one-way street toward a hospital when she was stopped by Officer Alfonso Mendez.

The 30-year-old officer, who has been suspended from the 84th Precinct in downtown Brooklyn, told her he did not know cardiopulmonary resuscitation - training all cops get in the Police Academy.

So this time a policeman, under contract unlike the FD in the TN county, refuses to help and a person dies. He's been suspended (most likely with pay) but since he's protected by a union contract he'll be back on the street refusing to help in no time. J Street Co-Founder Daniel Levy: Israel’s Creation “An Act That Was Wrong”

Quite the few days that J Street had last week, what with all the admitting they’re foot soldiers in Soros’s anti-Israel army after lying about it for years and then trying to get ahead of the story by lying about it some more. Most of the criticism has focused on co-founder Jeremy Ben-Ami, who did not exactly fall on his sword and instead tried to hamfistedly change the subject. But it’s probably unfair to blame him for all of J Street’s failings, from rigging polls to being more anti-Israel than the Saudis to expressing fake confusion about Hamas’s intentions.

Per Eli Lake’s first story, Ben-Ami seems to have been the one who did most of the “misleading” about J Street’s fundraising, from furtively squirreling away Soros’s cash to opaquely raising 50% of the group’s 2008 money from a single foreign source.

But per Lake’s second article, when it came time to shuttle Goldstone around DC and peddle his endlessly inaccurate and venomously biased libels around the Hill, J Street delegated the task to one of the adults in the organization. It was J Street co-founder, advisory board member, and international socialite Daniel Levy “who accompanied the judge to several of the [10-12] parleys” with Congress. It was also Levy’s New America Foundation that hosted a high-caliber lunch for Goldstone with “a group of analysts and Middle East wonks.”

The Goldstone tour wasn’t the first time that Levy willingly served as a channel for de facto Hamas propaganda. He’s been a tireless advocate of pro-Hamas diplomacy, and sees the Iranian proxy as an integral part of Palestinian civil society. A few years ago Noah Pollak took him out to the woodshed for historical revisionism that seemed jarringly anti-Israel and borderline anti-Zionist.

If sometimes it seems like Levy doesn’t really think that the modern Jewish State deserves defending, it’s because he kind of doesn’t really think that the modern Jewish State deserves defending. You can be confident on that point because he said so himself – quite definitively – at last May’s Fifth Al Jazeera Forum. Levy was on a panel with Al-Quds Al-Arabi editor-in-chief Abdel Bari Atwan, NAF Strategic Program Director Steve Clemons, surreal Hamas apologist and one-stater Allister Sparks, and accused terrorist Basheer Nafi.

Daniel Levy sounds like a guy that would be welcomed with open arms at HuffPo.

re: #148 NJDhockeyfan

Do you think that, after receiving 7% of their funding from Soros, it's fair to call J-Street "Foot soldiers in Soros's anti-Israel army"?

Also, this is the quote that they're depending on to slam Levy.

I believe the way Jewish history was in 1948 excused – for me, it was good enough for me – an act that was wrong. I don’t expect Palestinians to think that.

I can't actually make head or tail of that. What does he mean by 'it was good enough for me'?

Then please explain the similarities. Shouldn't be that hard for you.

People were more than willing to blame a FD that wasn't under contract for failure to help. In this case we have evidence that the the lefts ideal employee model is killing people. People were willing to jump to the conclusion that the feds needed to do something to protect rural people from fire, why not jump to the same conclusions here?

The feds need to step in and fix the problem and since the government employee union contract isn't doing the job then privatization might be the only answer. It's for the children, you don't hate children do you?

Then there was the home invasion that ended up with three victims dead in CT. Not only did Steven J. Hayes, a former parolee who was found guilty of a brutal home invasion in Connecticut that left three members of a family dead, on 16 of the 17 counts, but the brutality of the crimes is just unspeakable.

The guy murdered the three members of Petit family - brutally raped and murdered the mother, beat the father, and murdered the daughters before torching the daughters (and the medical examiner found that the daughters died of smoke inhalation).

Hayes faces the possibility of the death penalty on 6 of the counts.

Fox News Duped By Report That Los Angeles Will Spend $1 Billion On Jetpacks (VIDEO)

Where on earth could such an out-of-this-world report come from?

Gawker first noted that it probably came from a story in the Weekly World News. For those who haven't noticed the publication in supermarket checkout lines, their logo features Bat Boy and they've broken such exclusives as "Dick Cheney is a Robot," "Satan Captured by GIs in Iraq," and "Hillary Clinton Adopts Alien Baby."
Story continues below

You can't make this stuff up.

166 lawhawk  Wed, Oct 6, 2010 8:36:14am

re: #162 Obdicut

I read that the muggers in that incident didn't know about the bar's history as a backdrop to the Stonewall Riots and the gay rights movement in NYC and the US in general, (but can't find that report at the moment) - and in any event find that not particularly credible since West Village establishments are quite open about their gay pride and openness and tolerance.

However, some other reports indicate that there might have been more to this bar fight.

According to the New York Daily News, Don Orlando said his son Christopher wants to apologize to Carver, who needed stitches above his eyebrow because of the attack,

"We are a working class family," said Don Orlando, according to the Daily News. "We don't hate anyone here."

"I'm not going to sugarcoat what happened," said the father from Staten Island. "It was a bar fight, but I swear on my life it's not about Gays or race or any of that. We don't care about any of that stuff in this family."

The Daily News also reports that co-defendant Francis has a lesbian sister, Deana Francis, who is angry at Orlando’s attorney for arguing that her brother initiated the assault. She told the newspaper, "It takes two to tango. My brother isn't the only one at fault here. There is a lot more to this story."

Also, there was another apparent gay bashing incident over the same weekend not far from the Stonewall.

Well, the way that the victim told it, the gay stuff was actually incidental to their attempts to roll him. It sounded more like a mugging with a light veneer of gaybashing.

re: #188 Killgore Trout

Except that the trial of Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani is now in limbo because the judge is refusing to allow a government witness who claims to have sold Ghailani weapons.

"The court has not reached this conclusion lightly," Kaplan wrote. "It is acutely aware of the perilous nature of the world in which we live. But the Constitution is the rock upon which our nation rests. We must follow it not when it is convenient, but when fear and danger beckon in a different direction."

The government immediately asked for a delay of the trial, which had been expected to begin with opening statements on Wednesday, so that it has time to appeal the ruling, should it decide to do so.

The judge sent a pool of 66 jurors home until Tuesday, but not before warning them against hearing anything about the case from news reports or discussing it with anyone.

Ghailani is charged with conspiring in the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa. The attacks killed 224 people, including a dozen Americans.

The witness in question is Hussein Abebe, testified about his dealings with authorities, 3 weeks ago in a hearing. Judge Kaplan found that the government failed to prove that Abebe's testimony is sufficiently attenuated from Ghailani's coerced statements to permit its receipt in evidence.

Abebe was apparently discovered as a witness after statements Ghailani made while in CIA custody where it is alleged that he was subject to torture/enhanced interrogations.

Ghailani is a Tanzanian who was captured following the embassy bombings in Africa. That compares with Shahzad, who was captured on US soil by law enforcement for carrying out an attack in Times Square (which happened to be a fizzle).

What I think is that the ad it is an effective way of communicating the scientific consensus that, if we don't significantly reduce our consumption of fossil fuels, our descendants are likely to face extreme hardship as a result of the resulting change in the earth's climate.

Of course, the deniers will claim OUTRAGEOUS OUTRAGE and claim a false equivalence between this ad and, say, a right-wing political ad putting a target on a left-wing politician (the equivalence is false because in the original ad, the victim is not the "enemy to be taken out", but an innocent future victim of climate change).

If you doubt the scientific consensus, please say so and I'm sure that plenty of people will post all the relevant links and details. Again.

Does that answer your question?

The ad is basically in the tradition of hard-hitting ads against certain damaging behaviors (e.g., drink-driving ads that show children dying as a result of car crashes, or home-safety ads that show children drowning in unattended bathtubs).

There is more of a tradition of such ads in the UK than in the US, it seems. They have been shown to be very effective in curbing such behaviors.

Pissing off the skeptics? HAHAHAHAHA.

The skeptics that are "pissed off" by this ad are never going to be convinced.

This ad is aimed at encouraging those people who acknowledge the problem, but are so far not concerned enough to take action, to get off the fence.

Again, as with the drink-driving ads. If you have convinced yourself that drink-driving does not cause accidents, you may well be "pissed-off" by a graphic ad showing the consequences. But that doesn't give you a right to complain, because your original belief is delusional.

One doesn't have to be a Denier to have an issue with this ad.
It's uncalled for.

I'll ask my question again: if a similarly shocking ad had the effect of reducing child deaths due to drink-driving by 50%, would it be worth showing it?

This is not a hypothetical question: the significant decline in drink-driving deaths in the UK since the 60s is largely attributed to ad campaigns similar to this one.

You know the argument but I know it's hard to break out of your partisan shell so I'll break it down into little chunks for you:

IF:
Gov't employee+ privatization +no contract+house burned down=Callous Libertarian Utopian Failure that must be stopped by federal action

THEN:
Gov't employee+unionized+contract+civilian death= Callous Liberal Utopian Failure that must be stopped by federal action.

You really feel that's an argument? That's hilarious.

The police officer wasn't following policy; policy was to help. The officer was acting alone, not in a group. What he should have done was rush the girl to the hospital, since CPR/Rescue breathing is really unlikely to save the girl. The officer was, apparently, a complete asshole who didn't understand or want to understand the seriousness of the situation, attempting to write a ticket during the incident. But he wasn't refusing help based on a foolish, asinine policy, but due to the dickishness of his own heart.

Your comparison fails.

I agree about the "protecting employees" part. It is a problem. I think that, in the long run, it is a worthwhile part of the policy, because the job security the policy entails allows the government to pay below the market rate (or, looking at it another way, the costs incurred by providing job security are an alternative way of paying the market rate). This is the same situation as with teachers. If you want the freedom to fire bad teachers, you need to pay the good ones a whole lot more.

But there will always be situations where you get burned, such as this one.

Yes, I agree. Very compelling, and I think appropriate.

That is quite different though from an ad that has kids getting blown up because they disagree with a belief or action.

Try using images of an area/region where the kids live and the potential impact to the ecosystem and their lives from climate change. Then show them ways they can help to be a difference.

Pretty simple.

Poll: Christine O'Donnell trailing badly

A new poll shows Republican Christine O'Donnell badly trailing Democrat Chris Coons in a Delaware Senate race that Republicans were heavily favored to win until the tea party-backed O'Donnell pulled off an upset in the GOP primary last month.

The survey released Wednesday by Fairleigh Dickinson University-PublicMind found Coons leading O'Donnell 53 percent to 36 percent. It shows O'Donnell struggling within her own party, with only about two-thirds of Republicans saying they support her.

It also found that O'Donnell's primary opponent, Rep. Mike Castle, would have a strong lead if he were the GOP nominee.

No. I was wrong.

He said she could make up trailing by 25 points.

[Link: www.rushlimbaugh.com...]

". The polls say she'll lose by 25 points; that Castle will win by 20 points. But who knows this? The election's a long time off. In a year like this, it seems to me that Americanism versus socialism can make up 25 points. Why the hell not try to? Is what I don't understand. Why not try to make up the 25 points?

Okay, let's just assume that it's correct. Let's assume that Christine O'Donnell is down in the polls, Democrat polls, by the way, by 25 points. Okay, fine. If she's the best option we have to stop what's going on once she gets to Washington, why not try to make up the 25 points? We got socialism, communism, liberalism on the ropes. It's too risky? Let me tell you something. It's worth the risk. We're talking about saving the [blank] damn country. What do you mean, too risky? "

Woman who stopped CNN 'punk' plan says O'Keefe claims untrue

The woman who stopped a plot by conservative activist James O'Keefe to embarrass a CNN reporter said O'Keefe's latest statement on the matter is "clearly not true."

In an e-mail to CNN, the former executive director of Project Veritas, Izzy Santa, wrote: "It's clearly a PR statement for damage control. It's clearly not true but what can you do."

Santa was reacting to O'Keefe's explanation of what he said would have happened on his boat in August after he agreed to meet CNN Investigative Correspondent Abbie Boudreau, who was working on a documentary about young conservative activists.

I know, I know. It's just... I take a very valid dig at Apple, refuse to back down, and all of a sudden it's "Well, I guess we don't need to talk until I get home tonight since you'd rather not deal with an iPhone." I mean wtf? Ignoring my texts over this? Jesus...

Here's the thing, people who like Apple like it for a reason, it works for them. iPhone users are probably just tired of people feeling the need to come up to them and register their disappointment with a product / corporation nobody's forcing them to buy, it gets old. Especially when the only real alternative is offered by Google, an advertising agency with an actual motto of "Don't be Evil." I mean Apple fans may be unduly credulous, come on. You may have thought your dig was "very valid," and I'm sure it was spot-on legit criticism, but what she actually heard was probably something along the order of "You look stupid in those shoes."

re: #309 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

The election is just a month away. It would take the mother of all October surprises for her to make up that kind of ground. Even if you give her the benefit of doubt on the polling methods, oversampling, and whatever else you can throw (plus the kitchen sink), that's one heck of a margin to overcome.

Here are the 2008 election figures, showing registered voter totals for DE. She'd need all the GOPers to turn out, plus a significant number of independents, to overcome the Democrat registered voter edge.

GOTV would make a big dent on the assumptions, but a polarizing candidate could drive voters who would have otherwise sat on the fence to take a stand. It's what makes polling these kinds of races tough.

Sympathies and all positive thoughts your way.

It's great that you and Pop don't get rattled easily; take care about that, though -- one can be mentally prepared for difficulty and confident based on past performance, but the illness and health struggles of a deeply loved one can have a surprising impact on a person. Be confident, but be ready for your own (and your Dad's) emotions to be unpredictable in their effect on you. And above all, remember that it's OK if it knocks you off your pins for a bit, when you don't expect it to. It just means that your love overpowered your steadiness for a moment.

I hope for the best possible outcome for you and yours.

Calling people stupid, adds blowing up children, are not going to accomplish anything but set back any possible hope of reform.

And make no mistake, it is the people who must be convinced, they are the ones who dictate policy change, not the scientist, not really even the politicians.

I understand, but you would be wrong. This debate could be the most important one in our lives, to say I am skeptical of what the future brings in this regard does not mean I deny the possibility that LVQ's predictions are completely wrong, but rather for me, and many others, we just aren't convinced of imminent catastrophe.

Which is exactly why the conversation and marketing efforts needs to be at the adult level.

Regardless of a persons beliefs regarding the consequences of AGW, only a fool would believe that those advocating a strong government reaction is needed to prevent disaster are winning this debate.

I had to think about that for a moment, to an extent that is accurate although my greater concern frankly is the level of dialogue between people. It just seems to be getting lower and lower, left and right, skeptic and believer. It is one of the primary reasons I post here. I don't hide my politics or beliefs. I should probably wait until I become unboggled before I come to any conclusion.

Tell the other person that you feel very deeply about her/him, BUT if they spend any more time on the damned phone while you're around, you're walking and won't return. I've done it and followed through (found our server, paid the bill, gave him money to pay for her cab, and went home). Then again, I wasn't in love.

Fine. iPhone users like it. I'm happy they're happy with the product. But why must people be permanently attached to their electronics? And why must they brag about them and disparage competing products they haven't used?

My advice to almost everyone in the world--Back away from this stuff. Take a vacation in which you leave your toys at home or at least in the room while you go play.
