NRSC Ad for John Raese Uses ‘Hicky’ Actors

Politics • Views: 5,211

Republican John Raese is running for the late Robert Byrd’s Senate seat in West Virginia, spewing anti-science nonsense like almost every other Republican candidate. Raese’s Democratic opponent is Gov. Joe Manchin, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee has released an ad attacking Manchin, shot in Philadelphia using actors chosen for that “hicky” West Virginia look. “John Deer” caps optional.

Mark Kirk

Mark Kirk represents the 10th Congressional District of Illinois located in the suburbs north of Chicago.

Now in his fifth term, Congressman Kirk is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee and is co-chairman of the moderate GOP Tuesday Group and the bipartisan House US-China Working Group.

In Congress, Congressman Kirk works to advance a suburban agenda that is pro-defense, pro-personal responsibility, pro-environment, and pro-science. He wrote a number of provisions which became law, including funding for commuter rail, improving veteran’s health care, ensuring military voting, and boosting aviation security.

The Hot Air crowd hates him.

Culprits identified in worldwide honeybee die-off

Over the past few years, there's been some panic over a dramatic decrease in the world's honeybee population, an occurrence that has left many experts scratching their heads. Now it appears as though part of the bee die-off mystery has been solved.

As reported by Kirk Johnson of the New York Times, a somewhat odd pairing of entomologists and military scientists has pinpointed likely culprits: a fungus and a virus, both of which flourish in cool, wet environments. While scientists aren't certain, they believe the fungus and virus work together to hamper the insect's digestive system. Each is relatively harmless on its own, Johnson says, but their combination is deadly.

Unfortunately, although he appears to be decent on environmental issues, on global warming Dave Reichert sounds like every other Republican:

Last week, Reichert, of Auburn, said he remained unsure about climate change or what role humans might play.

"The problem is, you have some scientists who say it's happening, and some who say it's not happening. The problem is the Sierra Club says that every scientist says it is," said Reichert, a member of the House Science Committee.

"I'm going to wait until all the facts are in. There were many scientists who used to say the world was flat."

I had to call and leave a message to find out the position of the Republican candidate for Governor of New Mexico on AGW.

While searching for an answer, I found this article on cap & trade being discussed in the New Mexico legislature.

NM GOP lawmakers raise concerns in emissions case

[...]

The Environmental Improvement Board is hearing final testimony Monday and Tuesday on an emissions cap petition filed by environmental group New Energy Economy. The board finished a similar hearing last week on a cap-and-trade petition filed by the New Mexico Environment Department.

The board expects to begin deliberating the proposals Nov. 2.

The Republicans' letter says any board member who "has a known 'green' agenda" should recuse themselves from the decision-making process to ensure impartiality.

[...]

They have a funny idea of what "impartial" means.

36 reine.de.tout  Thu, Oct 7, 2010 12:58:13pm
But not just any actors: “We are going for a ‘Hicky’ Blue Collar look,” read the casting call for the ad, being aired by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. “These characters are from West Virginia so think coal miner/trucker looks.”

“Clothing Suggestions” included jeans, work boots, flannel shirt, denim shirt, “Dickie’s type jacket with t-shirt underneath,” down-filled vest, “John Deer [sic] hats (not brand new, preferably beat up),” “trucker hats (not brand new, preferably beat up).

geez.

"In the 110th Congress, Dave continues to fight for environmental issues through:

· Advocating for real and immediate action to tackle climate change by supporting a cap and trade system with domestic and international offsets to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70% below 1990 levels by 2050.
· Introducing legislation that would add 22,000 acres of wilderness to the existing Alpine Lakes Wilderness and designate the Pratt River as a Wild and Scenic River.
· Working to set the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge aside as an actual refuge and wilderness area as it was intended, not as a station for the extraction of oil to the degradation of it’s inhabitants natural ecosystems.

His environmental accomplishments include:

· Supported over $2.5 billion in funding for our National Parks.
· Called for increased funding for the restoration of Puget Sound and surround estuaries, rivers and marine habitats.
· Made important contributions to systematic and cumulative efforts to improve the quality of endangered salmon habitats, increase knowledge about salmon and steelhead life cycles and requirements, and prioritized conservation and recovery activities."
