I am intrigued the Daily Mail has the option of how I can "get the look" President Obama was wearing.
Also, does this mean they will be confiscating all books now?

Here's one for those of you who live in Cali:
Rudy Giuliani: Meg Whitman will take on public unions, cut spending to bring back Calif.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Locked in a fight for centrist voters, Meg Whitman turned to fellow Republican moderate Rudy Giuliani on Sunday to help make her case that she will heal California's economy and transform Sacramento by slashing government spending and lowering taxes.
Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and 2008 Republican presidential candidate, told cheering Whitman supporters in a Los Angeles hotel that electing Democrat Jerry Brown would be a step backward in a state with a double-digit unemployment and a financial crisis in state government. He depicted Brown as a vestige of failed Democratic policies who hadn't earned a return trip.
But here's the interesting part:
While Whitman was happy to have Giuliani at her side, she won't be joining another GOP luminary this week: Sarah Palin. Whitman will not attend a high-profile GOP fundraiser in Orange County this week where Palin is the headliner — her campaign says she has other commitments that day.
A recent Field Poll found Palin is not a popular figure in California — about two of three independents said they would be less likely to support a candidate endorsed by the former Alaska governor.

I think she would be worse than Arnold. At least Arnie has been able to, in the past few months, successfully negotiated with various parties (a couple of unions regarding retirement, some of the holdouts in the Assembly, etc.) I fear Whitman would be too ideological in a State government with an already hyper-ideological Assembly and Senate.

Here in the great state of South Carolina, these are my choices for Governor: I have a choice between the person who was the 4th place candidate no one had ever heard of (and those who had heard of her didn't take seriously) until she was endorsed by Palin and someone who literally is a good ol' boy. His family is a powerhouse in the county I live in; they have state Senators, judges, and family members all up and down the county level government. They have been here so long that they know what is best for us.

That's bad enough, but they openly mock General Petraus. A example of a thread about General's request to not give aid to the enemy by Koran burning:
"But I do have the action for it. We the People will force the issue right here and now. If peacefully exercising our unalienable rights on our own property here in our own homeland endangers you, then we will endanger you."
WTF, I thought Petraus was a hero on the right, but he tries to protect our troops and he's now under the bus ?

It's a really close race. I'm leaning towards Jerry Brown, because of his experience. I'm afraid Meg Whitman would be another Arnold. All talk & lots of trying, but ultimately, no results. We're in a world of hurt, budgetarily, here.
Meg won't be another Arnold. Another Arnold wouldn't be so bad...someone who works across the aisle, stands up to his/her own party, etc...wait, that's Jerry Brown!
Meg would be more like Sarah Palin with Glenn Beck on her shoulders. Bitch, whine, blame, and cut back-room deals to help her friends...fuck everyone else. Every time she says she wants to help education, and then in the same breath says we need to cut welfare, I secretly wish for her to lose even more money losing the election.

OPEN LETTER TO GEN. PETRAEUS
“Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult.”
– Gen. David PetraeusGeneral, I ask you this: what in h-ll is your “mission” if We the People jeopardize it by exercising our unalienable First Amendment rights in our own homeland? Is your “mission” to defend our rights against foreign enemies, or to defend foreign enemies against our rights?
You made your choice, and you justified it by asserting that you and those under your command have been taken hostage by our terrorist enemy. The ransom demand you obediently delivered to us is that we must submit to your captor’s restrictions against our rightful freedom on our own property, or they’ll kill you.
I remind you and your captors that we do not negotiate with terrorists.

I do understand the caution about people's speech being controlled by threats of reaction by religious fanatics a world away. I wasn't too keen when people went around saying that peacefully protesting the war in Iraq was giving fuel to jihadis.
But acting as though Petraeus is the bad guy here is not reasonable. He communicated his situation very clearly, and a lot of people have clearly decided that their person desire to act out is more important than hasbara for the country.

A new creationist group that preaches the “scientific” theory of intelligent design has set up in Glasgow with the stated aim of promoting its beliefs to schools and colleges.
The Centre for Intelligent Design, headed by a Northern Irish professor of genetics, a vice-president of the Royal College of Physicians and a former school inspector, has already prepared the ground for a clash with authorities.
The group’s director, Dr Alastair Noble, told the Sunday Herald it was “inevitable” the debate would make its way into schools – even though the Scottish Government says teachers should not regard intelligent design as science.
“We are definitely not targeting schools, but that doesn’t mean to say we may not produce resources that go to schools,” Dr Noble said, adding that he had already been asked to speak in Scottish schools, and agreed to do so.
[... (paragraphs highlighting the religious background of those involved)]
Dr Noble denied the theory of intelligent design – that a universal engineer, or god, created the initial spark of life then used physical laws and natural selection to develop it – was religious.

Creationism is on the rise in the UK, it appears. Both the Christian and Muslim versions are being pushed hard. A major political battle is forming in the UK over what "private" schools teach, especially since state funding is involved.

Neighborhood drama tonight. Fat lesbian neighbor has a prescription for medical weed. She took delivery of about a half dozen 8 foot tall plants recently (oddly delivered from a church van). My crazy pitbull owning nightmare neighbors befriended her then stole the plants. Assholes.
That is a low thing to do. Are the neighbors being prosecuted? If not, why not? And can she get some replacement weed, or is she limited to so much per month (week, etc.)?

Well, the moron, Carl Paladino, strikes again.
New York (CNN) -- New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino criticized gays Sunday, saying he didn't want children "to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid or successful option," compared to heterosexuality.
"It isn't," Paladino said at a stop in Brooklyn, New York.
A prepared version of his remarks obtained by CNN from New York affiliate NY1 said that "There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual," though Paladino did not wind up delivering that line.
"That's not how (God) created us," the prepared remarks continued, though Paladino did not say those words.

Just about time to go. My wrist is healed but my hand is swollen and I can't close my fist, so another therapy session tomorrow.
The ER Doc in Houston told me it was NOT broken, but they put me in a splint to stabilize a sprain. Not a word said about keeping it elevated, no sling... and after bouncing my head off the floor, I was too stunned to ask. AFTER I got home 3 days later my local doc didn't like the way it looked and ordered more X-rays. A bone in my wrist was cracked.
I am sure hoping that those three days of not treating it as a break didn't mess my hand up permanently. :(

About 20 years ago, one of our local emergency rooms failed to properly diagnose a broken bone in my mother's foot. Once she got a competent radiologist to take and examine an X-ray, all was taken care of. No permanent damage--but she's never gone to that ER again.

I have, well, her husband calls her "Mrs. Kravits" next door.
I guess we all have weird neighbors!
Mine aren't any weirder than I am, which is not saying much come to think of it. The one on the right is a black doctor who collects Ku Klux Klan and other racist memorabilia. There is apparently a whole subculture of middle class black people who do this. He has some real prizes, too. One is a genuine Grand Dragon's robe from the Klan's heyday in the 1920s. It is embroidered silk of the finest quality, has a matching hood, and must have cost a fortune when it was made. It is in excellent condition, a shimmering red in color and very sinister looking indeed. He also has some rare items from the original Reconstruction era Klan, including a copy of their hand-book, the "Kloran."
He said he thought about answering the door in the Klan outfit on Halloween, then yanking off the hood, but has yet to work up the nerve to do it. Maybe this year.
The guy on the other side is a retired banker. He is 95 years old and still smokes Chesterfield cigarettes. I didn't even know they still made them, but they do.

Along that line:
An article about the future bookless libraries, which may already be springing up at a campus near you:
Last month, the University of Texas at San Antonio announced it had built the world’s first bookless library. Its Applied Engineering and Technology Library offers access to 425,000 e-books and 18,000 e-journal subscriptions, and librarians say they’ve yet to hear a complaint from the 350-plus students and faculty who pass through its doors daily. “We’ve gotten no negative feedback,” says Krisellen Maloney, library dean at the University of Texas. “We looked at circulation rates, we looked at electronic resources, we looked at requests, and we decided that having the services was more important than the physical books.” She adds bluntly: “When we prioritized the needs, the books weren’t the priority.”
That can't be good for the academic book market.

Amen, brother!
As a theater person, I know an amazing number of gays, and most of them are non-threatening and non-flamboyant. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of them with problems, but in my non-scientific estimation at roughly the same percentages as their straight brethren.
Perhaps Mr. Paladino's problem is that he's not well-adjusted by any standards. We already know he's not content with one woman, maybe he's threatened by the prospect of anyone being content with their domestic situation.
Politically, I don't see how his stance can win him any votes. He already has the anti-gay vote. Maybe he's just being an a**hole.
BTW, Paladino isn't a "fundie". No, he makes a big deal of his Catholicism; in fact, he took his out-of-wedlock kid to meet the Pope!

I knew the writing was on the wall when the Editor became one of "Dick Chancre's" stable of people he could call early in the morning to talk about anything, and she (the editor) would agree with him even on his birtherism kicks. And when Robin Chotzinoff left.
True story, I spent a night getting drunk with Buster Snyder at a gig for Robin Chotzinoff's band, at the old Longhorn Saloon. He was already off the force, and the father of a high school classmate. Chotz and her then hubby even sat at the table during set breaks.
