Prosecutors Recommend Acquittal for Geert Wilders

Dutch prosecutors have asked the high court to acquit anti-Muslim politician Geert Wilders on charges of hate speech and incitement.

The judge has apparently not ruled on the request yet, but this is the right decision. I’ve always said Wilders should not be prosecuted for the hateful rubbish he spews.

But make no mistake; that does not mean I support Wilders himself. I support the ideal of free speech, which Wilders wants to take away from Muslims.

A wiser man might take a lesson from this attempted prosecution, and see that he was subjected to the same kind of persecution he’s trying to impose on all Muslims in the Netherlands. But Wilders will take this as further encouragement, because he’s a demagogue and a bigot, profiting politically from demonizing the “other” — exactly like GOP politicians such as Carl Paladino and Sarah Palin.

The bassoon is one of my favorite instruments. It has the medieval aroma -- like the days when everything used to sound like that. Some people crave baseball -- I find this unfathomable -- but I can easily understand why a person could get excited about playing a bassoon.
