Christine O’Donnell is Not the Only GOP Politician Who Denies Separation of Church and State

Peter Daou makes a good point about Christine O’Donnell’s First Amendment gaffe — to the right wing audience it was aimed at, this was not a gaffe.

It’s an article of faith (literally) on the right wing that separation of church and state was not the intention of the First Amendment. And Christine O’Donnell is far from the only GOP candidate pushing this fringe nonsense; in fact, it’s ubiquitous in today’s GOP.

In the past few months, we’ve noted many of these statements by GOP politicians and pundits:

The Texas State Board of Education
The Texas State Board of Education again
GOP Sen. Tom Coburn
Sharron Angle
Rick Santorum
Glen Urquhart

That’s from a quick search through our archives; I could easily find many more. The religious right is making a huge push to legitimize this revisionist hooey.
