Chris Coons: Gawker’s Article is ‘Despicable’ and ‘Cowardly’

Politics • Views: 7,162

Christine O’Donnell’s Democratic opponent Chris Coons has issued a statement on Gawker’s sleazy smear piece: Chris Coons camp: Gawker post about Christine O’Donnell ‘cowardly’.

“The Gawker item is despicable, cowardly and has absolutely no value at all to any Delaware voters,” Coons spokesman Daniel McElhatton told POLITICO. “We denounce it with great vigor.”

The comment comes in response to the gossip website’s post Thursday in which an anonymous man claims to have had a one-night stand with O’Donnell three years ago on Halloween. The post includes numerous embarrassing claims about O’Donnell, as well as pictures of her dressed like a lady bug.

O’Donnell spokesman Doug Sachtleben responded to the item with a post on Facebook calling it “sexism and slander.”

The National Organization for Women also denounced the post as “public sexual harassment.”

Oh, I know.

Obviously Coons set the whole thing up, just so he could come out and say how bad it was and make himself look like the good guy.

There is no justification for publishing this kind of garbage.

On The Trail Of "Anonymous," Christine O'Donnell's Sex-Free Pal

Readers of today’s first-person account of a sexless one-night stand with kooky Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell might have noticed that the author--whom Gawker cloaked as “Anonymous” --was wearing an actual Boy Scouts uniform in photos accompanying the story about the purported Halloween night encounter three years ago.

While the man’s identity remains a secret (at least for the time being), TSG has determined that the uniform’s owner is a buddy of “Anonymous” who actually works for the Boy Scouts of America.

Brad Kurisko, 28, is a district executive with a Boy Scouts council in the Philadelphia area. In the pictures of O’Donnell mugging with “Anonymous,” the nametag on the uniform is obscured with a black bar. This was presumably done to further protect the identity of “Anonymous” and cut off any attempts to ID him via the uniform.

Which apparently only worked half.

In a series of phone conversations this afternoon, Kurisko, pictured above, acknowledged that “Anonymous” had worn his Boy Scouts outfit, but claimed that he was unaware that the uniform would be seen in photos published with the O’Donnell story. “I have to go home and kick his ass,” Kurisko said of his buddy, whom he declined to identify. He added, “I had no idea that any pictures existed.”

Asked if he was involved in the preparation or brokering of the Gawker story, Kurisko declined comment. While denying that he was “Anonymous,” Kurisko refused to identify the story’s author, claiming that TSG was “asking me to throw someone under the bus.” He also refused to answer a question about whether he received money in connection with the story (Gawker's editor told a Yahoo reporter that the site paid in the "low four figures" for the O'Donnell story).

re: #10 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

UPDATE: In a phone interview tonight, a besieged Kurisko told TSG that Dominiak is the man pictured with O’Donnell in the Gawker photos. He said that while Dominiak had borrowed his Boy Scouts uniform, he was unaware of the existence of photos of his roommate with O’Donnell.

Kurisko said that he had no idea that Dominiak was preparing the Gawker piece and only became aware of its publication after speaking with a TSG reporter late this afternoon. He added that he is now concerned about “preserving my job” in light of media scrutiny, which has included reporters attempting to contact members of his family. These contacts, Kurisko added, were triggered by a Village Voice report that erroneously identified him as “Anonymous.”

Dominiak is “well aware of the situation,” said Kurisko, who added, "I was not aware this was going down."

What this episode has done is open the door for the next person to do the same thing.

Some right web site will now feel free to do the same, a left blogger will do it again as a response, etc.

It is up to Gawker to take the piece down, apologize to Ms O'Donnell and to it's readers and promise to raise their own journalistic standards.

NOW Responds to Jerry Brown's Apology
Statement of NOW President Terry O'Neill

October 13, 2010

Last night at the California gubernatorial debate, Jerry Brown apologized for a member of his campaign staff suggesting Meg Whitman, his opponent in the race, be called a "whore." This overdue apology was a necessary step; however, it was accompanied by an assertion that these sorts of comments are part and parcel of what happens inside political campaigns. If so, that needs to change.

While our California chapter's Political Action Committee voted to endorse Brown on the basis of his support for women's rights, the National Organization for Women clearly and unequivocally condemns calling Meg Whitman, or any woman, a whore. This term is hate speech that carries with it negative connotations associated with women, and it has no place in contemporary society.

NOW calls on Brown, from this point forward, to fire any member of his staff who uses this word or any hate speech against women.

Ummm, have a look at their web-site. What I think doesn't matter when it comes to NOW. What matters is what they claim to support.

But to expand a little on hypocrisy, liberals claim to be "centrist, moderate and/or progressive." A quick check of their voting records proves they're left-wingers. Conversely we conservatives don't try to deceive people by claiming to be something we're not. We're conservative.

Based on the ass-kicking that's going to happen Tuesday, it's clear that the Tea Party has Republicans, Democrats and, most importantly, Independents. Democrat politicians are getting early retirement because of the legislation they passed during the current congressional session. Right-wingers didn't elect Scott Brown. He needed Democrat and Independent votes.

I smell sour grapes. Don't worry. Harry Reid and his son are heading off the cliff and Nancy Pelosi will be a lame duck in four days. It's easy to see why.

Today’s situation is completely different. The economy, weighed down by the debt that households ran up during the Bush-era bubble, is in dire straits; deflation, not inflation, is the clear and present danger. And it’s not at all clear that the Fed has the tools to head off this danger. Right now we very much need active policies on the part of the federal government to get us out of our economic trap.

But we won’t get those policies if Republicans control the House. In fact, if they get their way, we’ll get the worst of both worlds: They’ll refuse to do anything to boost the economy now, claiming to be worried about the deficit, while simultaneously increasing long-run deficits with irresponsible tax cuts — cuts they have already announced won’t have to be offset with spending cuts.

So if the elections go as expected next week, here’s my advice: Be afraid. Be very afraid

I'm pro-choice and believe anything related to religion doesn't belong in public schools - particularly in science class. OTOH, I'll take on the NEA some other time. I can provide other examples in which Republican politicians get it wrong, but we can cover that later.

My main focus is on fiscal policy, defense and personal freedoms. The Republican party is far ahead of the Democrat Party in these areas. My opinion is if you agree with one party platform 100%, you're letting others make decisions for you. Neither party has it all figured out and I think a bicameral system keeps the party in power from going overboard.

Here's an example. When Bush was President, we had both houses of Congress and seven of the nine Supreme Court Justices were appointed by Republican Presidents. So why wasn't abortion outlawed? Because there isn't a nationwide bipartisan demand for it. Republicans won't outlaw abortion. It's a straw-man.

Look at what the voters see as a priority and you'll see why Republicans are going to be victorious next week. Of course we'll also see the media/Democrat Party tell us how stupid and angry the voters are. Stupid Independents. I'll get the popcorn. Heh.

re: #61 Varek Raith

Stalemate is probably their preferred outcome, but with power comes responsibility, which means that they will have to have something to show for 2 years control in the House. That means that they'll have to pass legislation to further their agenda.

Not that the most extreme parts of their agenda, that include overturning HCR, have a chance of passage over the President's veto (and that assumes that the Senate flips, which isn't likely).

Mice Genetically Engineered to Smell Light

Neurobiologists have genetically engineered mice to smell light. This optogenetics research provides a better understanding of the neural basis of olfaction. By integrating light sensitive proteins, channelrhodopsins, into the olfactory system of mice, the neurobiologists were better able to control tests involving the olfactory bulb.

United Arab Emirates flight 201 is being escorted into JFK airport by U.S. fighter jets, according to CNBC.

The flight is expected to land at 3:30 PM ET.

The news is related to the earlier warnings about suspicious packages in UPS cargo flights to the U.S. and the UK. Those flights were quarantined, reviewed, and the packages were found to not be dangerous.

The packages are reported to be from Yemen. The UK has stopped all flights between the country and Yemen.

Raising taxes.

Guess who else raised taxes?

According to Josh Green, writing for Washington Monthly, Reagan’s 1982 tax hike raised $100 billion over three years, which at the time was the biggest tax increase since World War II. He also raised the tax on gasoline that year, as Sen. Simpson noted, and then raised taxes overall again in 1984 — the year he was reelected — by $50 billion over three years, primarily by rewriting the code to close business loopholes. In his second term, Reagan’s historic Tax Reform Act of 1986 increased taxes on corporations by $120 billion over five years — the largest corporate tax increase in history.

Actually decreasing the rate of spending from 10% YoY to 7.2% did it. I realize Clinton got all the credit while Newt was called the "Gingrich who Stole Christmas," but it would NEVER have happened without Newt, John Kasich and a Republican majority in congress.

That is hardly surprising given the very detailed and cited Torah reasons why Jews just will never be teabags en masse. Even Buzzsawmonkey knows better than to claim to be a bigger Jew, than Hillel, Akiva and Moses.

I haven't checked their crap today. Does he have some he's Hispanic and he is voting GOP rant up or some crap?

Let me guess, He knows who his proud Latin/Roman/Lebanese/white ancestors are, while we are white trash and as a pure blood Hispanic with more culture than us Nazis won't bow to totalitarian progressives like us because he is really a white Roman conquerer and we are from slave races?

A few bullets from Reagan's record:

"Reagan delivered on each of his four major policy objectives, although not to the extent that he and his supporters had hoped", and notes that the most substantial change was in the tax code, where the top marginal individual income tax rate fell from 70% to 28%..."

"During the Reagan administration, the American economy went from a GDP growth of -0.3% in 1980 to 4.1% in 1988 (in constant 2005 dollars),[10] which reduced the unemployment rate by 1.6pp, from 7.1% in 1980 to 5.5% in 1988..."

"A net job increase of about 16 million also occurred..."

"The inflation rate, 13.5% in 1980, fell to 4.1% in 1988..."

Oh, and the Soviets finally said "We give up" shortly after Reagan left office.

Kinda makes one miss Jimmy Carter...NOT!

Sarah Palin gets dumber

I have just figured it out. She is a radiating new form of matter called dork energy, that actually lowers the IQ's of those around her.

We shall have to add this to the sub-standard model!

In the normal bosonic political particle families, the Republicons, have two major forms:

The Moron and the Felon. Like all bosons these like to congregate. So they can stay contained at the same energy state within the heads of GOP politicians.

However, this new form of dork energy is clearly a supersymmetric leptonic partner. The degeneracy pressure inside Palin's head must be so great that they are squirting out everywhere.

We need to get her to LHC!

Does it worry you that you type "Democrat" when the proper term would be "Democratic." People so biased that they support Republicans, even though Republicans cause them and our country only harm often do this, so it's a big warning sign.

It seems to me that you're so biased that you think you support 85% of an insane party. Republicans aren't really for a strong military, balanced budget, or any of the responsible things they say they're for, and haven't been for at least 20 years.

These days the SoCons have taken over and made the party so religiously extreme that they can't see reality at all, and want to use government force to promote their bizarre social agenda. They're just 1000% times worse than Liberals since while both shun facts that contradict their dogma, at least the Liberals aren't driven by superstition and fear, and aren't looking to punish those who disagree.
