Breaking: ABC Bails on Breitbart

Media • Views: 27,700

Wingnut heads are sure to explode over this one. Get the popcorn ready: ABC News pulls plug on Andrew Breitbart.

Dear Mr. Breitbart,

We have spent the past several days trying to make clear to you your limited role as a participant in our digital town hall to be streamed on ABCNews.com and Facebook. The post on your blog last Friday created a widespread impression that you would be analyzing the election on ABC News. We made it as clear as possible as quickly as possible that you had been invited along with numerous others to participate in our digital town hall. Instead of clarifying your role, you posted a blog on Sunday evening in which you continued to claim a bigger role in our coverage. As we are still unable to agree on your role, we feel it best for you not to participate.

Sincerely,

Andrew Morse

James Urbaniak, the voice of Dr. Venture, has had the best line I've seen so far on Twitter about it:

"ABC fired @AndrewBreitbart for misrepresenting something? That's like hiring Fred Astaire and firing him for dancing."

7 Eclectic Infidel  Tue, Nov 2, 2010 2:02:06pm

Conclusive proof the liberal media is out of control, telling people what to think.

Could be. Could also have been an aggressive push for a larger role along the lines of what he claimed - and it's only a minor loss when it backfires since he now can play the victim card.

29 b_sharp  Tue, Nov 2, 2010 2:29:37pm

Since everybody moved up here, I'll repeat my post from down stairs.

For your enjoyment.

For the last week or so I've had difficulty eating because of problems with some of my molars. Today I went to the dentist to see if i could get some relief from the pain. Because I had a broken tooth that did not react to the cold test, and a wisdom tooth that was sensitive to the pressure test, he had trouble finding the problem. We eventually agreed I should have the wisdom tooth removed because it seemed the most sensitive.

He tried to freeze the area with the standard one needle but it didn't work, so he added two more needles to the mix. It is such exquisite pain when a dentist wiggles and jabs the needle into virgin gum territory to make sure every area has its fill.

He pulled the tooth, and then noticed the tooth right beside it had a crack that appeared to go all the way to the root. He didn't want to pull that tooth, probably because he makes more money by having me return, but claimed the crack might not be the problem.

I'm now at home, with the anaesthetic worn off, and in lots of pain after trying to eat a donut. I think the crack was the problem.

As bad as I have it today, I really believe I have it better than you Americans anticipating a conservative take over of your politics. You have my condolences.

Here's a little bit of geekery that I don't want to make a full post out of, but I'll mention here in a comment:

I realized that our "Views" counters were actually missing quite a few real world views, because they were only being incremented when someone loaded the individual post for that article. Since our front page contains the full text of the last 10 (or more, it's configurable) articles, every time someone loads the front page the views for those articles should be incremented too. And the same for the Pages.

So now that's what happens. Every time someone loads the front page, the LGF Javascript app sends the list of articles to the server via Ajax, where a PHP script connects to the database and increments the counters for those articles.

The immediate thing you'll notice is that the counts will be higher - a lot of Views were being missed by not counting the front pages.

Yeah. She did just go on a Mao rampage the other day though.

I'll have to check that one out. My friends who are against the 'ground zero mosque' purposely turn a blind eye to Geller's batty rants. This will be good fodder for my argument that she goes off the rails far too often against imaginary enemies.

I did, here in Md. we have a slot machine issue to deal with that's been totally distorted. We had a slot parlor about to be built near the Arundel Mills mall until a referendum was approved. Those opposed are saying it's in the mall, with the families and kids, but it's in a seperate building. They say it will increase traffic and parking issues, but the developer is adding more roads and parking. If you see the ad's against
"Slots in the mall", you'd think it was concerned citizens, but in fact it's money from other casinos that don't want the competition.

His tactic of not confronting the opposition until late in the game will be talked about for years in wonk/party operatives discussions. I always thought he could raise bigger bucks that he did. It argues well against these very long very expensive campaigns.

I still think Meg is really running for President. Ca Gov is just a train stop. She wants 2016. Why else spend 150+ million? Not to get paid about one million. Maybe I'm crazy to think so.

I think that deliberate late start helped get him off the hook for a rough time in Oakland, boast on his record from his time as Governor rather than be confronted with a far less stellar performance in Oakland.

Not sure if true or not, but huffington post reports the following about a Dem volunteer being shot with pellet gun:

WNYC is reporting that a Democratic campaign volunteer in a hotly-contested state Senate race in New York has been shot with a pellet gun. The alleged incident took place when the campaign volunteer, working on behalf of state Senator Brian Foley, was putting up campaign signs in Central Islip, New York. Witness claim the shots came from a black pick-up truck adorned with a sign for Foley's opponent, Lee Zeldin. The incident was reported to the New York public radio station by a Democratic campaign operative and hasn't been confirmed by police.

We need to make sure that it is clear that voter fraud and intimidation occurs just as much from the right, if not more, than from the left.

Breitbart really doesn't understand how low and ugly his smear against Shirley Sherrod was, and how much disgust he engendered in the general public because of it. That's the reason why a lot of people expressed their disapproval to ABC News. He did something very creepy, and now he's painting himself as a victim because people think he's a creep.

William Saletan:

First Breitbart and his acolytes falsely accused Sherrod of discriminating against whites as a federal employee, despite having no evidence for this charge in the original video excerpt. Strike one.

Then they misrepresented Sherrod's story as an embrace of racism, when in fact she was repudiating racism. They later pleaded ignorance of this fact because they didn't have the full video. Strike two.

Now, with the full video in hand and posted on their Web site, they're lying about the reaction of the NAACP audience.

Wouldn't that put her 2nd in line to be President?

Police called to remove GOP poll challengers at two sites

Police have been called to two polling sites in Las Cruces today to remove Republican Party poll challengers who were being disruptive, Chief Deputy Clerk Mario Jimenez confirmed for NMPolitics.net.

At precinct 25, a poll challenger was picking up poll workers’ materials and “throwing them down on the table” while being disruptive, Jimenez said. And at precinct 69, he said a poll challenger was “yelling in the polling place” and accusing the presiding judge of tampering with an absentee ballot when the judge was simply sealing the ballot according to procedure.

I shall repeat my predictions, made earlier in the day:

GOP supporters will declare a massive victory and new mandate.

Dem supporters say the bloodletting was nowhere near what they expected, hence the GOP gains were merely expected mid term political blips.

Plus ca change, plus ca reste la meme.

The best aspect of American democracy is that no matter how bad or good things can get for either political party, it can completely reverse itself two years later.

You can still do an awful lot of permament damage in two years.

Not a single hint that he understands he brought this on himself. It's all a huge conspiracy against him by the radical left George Soros operatives. Pathetic. Waaah.

For too many of the high-profile "conservatives" today, the supposed "conservative" character traits of personal responsibility and lifting oneself up by their bootstraps (among others) get ignored when it becomes too inconvenient or when it's politically expedient.
