Apropos of nothing, as I look over the election results from Tuesday, I can't help but notice what a stunning failure by the Republicans it really is. I at first thought it was more of a stunning victory for the Democrats, but as I look more closely, I realise that it's more of an embarrassing failure by the Republicans than anything particularly impressive on the part of their opponents. It's a result that gives me some measure of hope for the future of public discourse in this nation.

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER

A penny loaf to feed ol' Pope
A farthing cheese to choke him
A pint of beer to rinse it down
A faggot of sticks to burn him
Burn him in a tub of tar
Burn him like a blazing star
Burn his body from his head
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip hooray!
Hip hip hooray!

Always remember, never forget.
Namaste,y'all

I don't know. The GOP can ride revanchism for many years, upping the rhetoric as they go by into something very frothy (and violently so, if the anarchist elements of some of the Tea Partiers come to dominance.)

They can, but upping the rhetoric only hardens their current cultists more. It will lose them more ground than they can brainwash. This election demonstrated that - the crazy was at fever pitch and they sputtered at the polling booth. Amazing.

Aw.

Two cop friends of mine approached FOX with an idea for a show called Real COPs.

It'd show cops engaged in the real business of police work.

It'd consist of one minute of making an arrest, followed by half an hour of them sitting at desks filling out paperwork, twenty-five minutes of them waiting to testify at a trial, and five minutes of them testifying.

Somehow, Fox didn't leap at the idea.

re: #9 publicityStunted

You must be referring to the Senate? Because they certainly didn't "sputter" in the House races, sad to say...

Consider the circumstances. The American economy is in the worst shape it's been for half a century or more. All three branches of government were controlled by one party, which in this binary system you have leaves only one party to take the blame. Unemployment is at 10%. America remains mired in wars, and the people are now told it is patriotic to be against the war efforts. The most important powerbrokers in the US political system, the mass media, are at the very least cooperative with the memes of the right, and frequently nakedly partisan for them. The GOP has a propaganda machine that would be the envy of totalitarian regimes everywhere, and cultlike support among its base. They have had the ability to frame every single issue that has reached the national consciousness, and have done so for the past two years at least.

And yet, despite all that, despite every advantage and every historical indicator on their side, despite gains that were there for the taking in districts that they have historically owned and only recently lost, they failed to take both House and Senate, which is absolutely the norm in elections like this. They failed in races that were there for the taking, not just in the Senate, where these failures cost them control, but also in the House and in gubernatorial races. If this were football, and I know many voters consider politics to be basically like football where you cheer for your team and boo the other guys no matter what, this would be the equivalent of playing against a team that has most of its stars injured or sitting out, that's playing out the string and has nothing to gain, while having home field advantage and a frenzied partisan crowd, and conditions that suit your game and hinder the opposition's strengths, and despite all of that still only struggling home by a field goal in overtime.

It is hard to imagine the GOP having more advantages than they did in this election. Both Houses were there for the taking. Both Houses should have gone handily. Their most insane candidates snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. And it wasn't just completely insane candidates - other races that were basically locks, not just winnable, were still lost.

The media meme will of course be this 'Red Wave' nonsense. It makes great copy, it creates a great narrative, and it gives viewers what they expect. In the case of FOX, it gives the cult their expected result and fits their worldview as well. But if I were a GOP strategist I'd be deeply disappointed in this result. Frankly, it's a colossal failure.

Back in the very early days (late 80s, early 90s) of the Fox show "COPS", they used to show pretty much what you're talking about. At some point, they dropped the "meanwhile, back at the station" segments.

COPS has filmed a lot of episodes in my city. That's not necessarily a point of pride. Also, it seems like every time a white hillbilly has a run-in with the law, he's invariably not wearing a shirt. What's the deal with white guys going topless?

Disclaimer: I'm a white guy; try not to be a hillbilly; usually wear a shirt of some kind; have only involved the police in my life on exceptionally rare occasions.

Maybe he doesn't take swings or place blame because he, and his party, is to blame that we don't have a FTA with S. Korea and Columbia? It's nice to see that after 3 years he's finally willing to "re-visit" this whole free trade stuff. I wonder what could have changed his mind?

Your fantasy world is a really strange one.

In what way has Obama been opposed to free trade in the past three years, Rogue?

The free-trade fight
[Link: www.latimes.com...]

President George W. Bush was a big proponent of the bilateral agreement with South Korea, which both governments signed in 2007, but he couldn't persuade Congress to approve it. Obama seems an unlikely champion, especially since he criticized the deal during his 2008 presidential campaign.

Wiki:
[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

The Democratic candidate Barack Obama opposed the KORUS FTA as `badly flawed' during his campaign, claiming it wouldn't do enough to increase U.S. auto sales. His criticism echoes the auto labor unions, which are fighting to defeat a trade bill that does nothing to redress the very problems they have complained of for years[14]. Obama has said he would vote against the FTA if it comes up for a vote in the U.S. Senate and would send it back to Korea if elected president

Good morning Lizards. I just watched Rachel Maddow's clip on the other thread about keith olbermann. She makes some good points about FOX, but her protestations that MSNBC is somehow a paragon of objectivity compared to FOX was less than convincing. I believe olbermann will return to his spot on MSNBC and I believe he will become even more difficult to control than he has been throughout his career. I worked with him for 4 years and have seen his act up close. If history is any guide, he will take the chance he is eventually given (to return to his show) and blow it. Does anyone want to bet against me on that one?

Yes, I know that you lied, as usual, and claimed that I said that the president is an economic genius. I'm sorry I didn't take the time out to point out that you lied again. It's gotten to be rather the norm.

Exactly. People who pretend that objectivity can even be approached are just goddamn bizarre to me. It's a good goal, but the most important part for journalists is identifying what the challenge to their objectivity is, where it is they're coming from.

It's part of what made Murray Kempton such a powerhouse of a reporter. He was absolutely frank about his positions, his biases, and his commitments. He didn't in any way attempt to pretend that what you were getting wasn't the work of his mind, didn't try to pretend he was channeling the Spirit of Objective Journalism onto the page.

I find the bias pretty obvious even if it isn't spelled out in writing somewhere. If MSNBC thinks anyone is surprised Mr. Olbermann supports dem causes, sometimes financially, I think they're sadly mistaken. MSNBC has made a decent living the last few years turning themselves into the dem version of FoxNews. The only difference between their evening line-ups is MSNBC doesn't have the "When Animals Attack!" graphics and sound effects.

I gave you the evidence you needed to make the correct observations but you chose to stick to the party line. "Obama does like free-trade!" when there isn't any evidence to support the statement. He's bashed every FTA, including NAFTA, and doesn't have one vote in support of any of the FTA initiatives. He's weak on trade, he's weak on economic theory, and you can't show any evidence that I'm either mistaken or taking it out of context. He's blowing smoke here after taking a shellacking last week in part due to his economic policies. You want to believe the spin because you're not just a member of the fan club, but a client.

i think the viewing public has more or less figured it out. Of the three cable news channels, CNN (domestic) is closest to "objective," although CNN International is pretty far to the left of center. FOX is clearly right and MSNBC is clearly left. I have been a defender of FOX, but I have gravitated towards CNN in recent months, although I still sample all 3 networks. If I am watching Chris Matthews on MSNBC, I realize he is just as far left as Sean Hannity is far right on FOX.

No, Tony. Fox really, really is both far more biased than MSNBC, and far more intellectually dishonest on many levels.

I mean, aside from the many ways that it can actually be demonstrated that Fox is entirely aligned with the GOP, wouldn't it be just amazingly statistically improbable for them to simply be equal?

I think you're mistaking a quality argument-- MSNBC tends to be aligned with the Democrats more than with the GOP-- with a quantity argument-- MSNBC is as aligned with the Democrats as Fox is with the GOP.

The former is true. The latter is not. Everything from NewsCorps donations to the GOP governor's fund, to the long string of GOP members who are also commentators on Fox, demonstrates this well. Interestingly enough, the only host on MSNBC who is an actual elected member of either party, is a Republican, Joe Scarborough.

Stu Bykofsky: Olbermann fair? O'Reilly balanced? What we found
[Link: www.philly.com...]

BEFORE THE Democrats got battered in Tuesday's election, I decided to check out one of their favorite pincushions - the Fox News Channel's "fair and balanced" motto.

"Fair" can be subjective. "Balanced," less so. Airing contrary points of view is one element of being fair.

Last week, Monday through Friday, I recorded the flagship shows that lead Fox's and MSNBC's prime-time lineups: "The O'Reilly Factor" on right-leaning Fox, and "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on left-leaning MSNBC. Rush Limbaugh calls it PMSNBC, while Olbermann refers to his competition as "Fix News" or "Faux News." These star-driven vehicles represent their networks.
.....
Here are the totals for the week:

"The O'Reilly Factor" welcomed 20 guests from the right, 11 from the left and seven who were neutral. Left and neutral voices combined almost equaled those from the right.

"Countdown with Keith Olbermann" had 20 guests from the left, two neutral and not a single voice from the right. Zero voices of dissent.

So, if you never want to hear anyone challenge liberal views, lock in on Olbermann. While progressives disdain Fox's claim of being "fair and balanced," "The O'Reilly Factor" does present opposing views. O'Reilly will cut them off in midsentence, true, but he even does that to people who agree with him. (Shock therapy might help.) Olbermann seems unable to even listen to anything other than progressive orthodoxy.

Seems to be a lot of that going around...

72 _RememberTonyC  Sat, Nov 6, 2010 6:40:31am

re: #63 RogueOne

I find the bias pretty obvious even if it isn't spelled out in writing somewhere. If MSNBC thinks anyone is surprised Mr. Olbermann supports dem causes, sometimes financially, I think they're sadly mistaken. MSNBC has made a decent living the last few years turning themselves into the dem version of FoxNews. The only difference between their evening line-ups is MSNBC doesn't have the "When Animals Attack!" graphics and sound effects.

When comcast completes its takeover of 51% of NBC Universal, you will likely see some big changes at MSNBC. Steve Burke, CEO of comcast is a product of the former Capital Cities broadcasting company, which owned ABC before selling it to Disney about 15 years ago. Burke will see that while MSNBC is profitable, its ratings suck and it will become MORE profitable if it sheds its label of the far left news network. I think there will be a place for someone like Rachel Maddow, who is talented and bright. But Burke is a businessman who understands that the size of the audience is how you keep score in the world of TV. And if olbermann's ratings are trending down, he must either turn it around or he'll be looking for a new gig.

I disagree. They've managed to move up to 2nd in the ratings behind fox and they routinely kick CNN's numbers ass. They've found their niche, left wing watchers. Fox has the right sewn up, there isn't any way for them to pull viewers away from them in the evenings. They've done a good job in the mornings with Morning Joe. MSNBC has a three hour long morning shoe hosted by an elected GOP member. It's really, really odd to me that it's called a far-left station with such regularity.

But far beyond that bit of moderation on the part of MSNBC, the main issue for me is that Fox is so extremely and dramatically biased, not just in its hosts and commentators, but in its direct news reportage. Charles has shown how often Fox repeats biased stories uncritically, and how their reportage on issues like, say, climate change, are uniformly from the position also held by the GOP-- with the added problem that this position is the factually inaccurate one.

Doc is managing minutes during the regular season. He needs guys like Big Baby, Marquis Daniels, and Nate Robinson to play meaningful minutes in case he has injury issues later in the season. If Doc kept his foot on the gas last night, Boston would have won more easily. I think it will be Miami vs Boston in the eastern finals unless they somehow end up playing each other before the conference finals. Our ratings are excellent so far, and I expect a huge season for the NBA.

I got really annoyed watching their game with the Cavaliers, not because it was a bad game, but because the announcers were so entirely pro-Cavaliers, and just sucked at being announcers in general. Saying stupid shit like "They need to up their physical game" and "Making shots is great, but you need them to go in."

Even though the Celtics lost, that was a fun game. I really like Rondo; he's very fun to watch. And Big Baby had some stellar moments; he's got some hustle to him.

I'm sorry, Tony, but to me all you're saying is that everything is absolutely subjective. I don't find that a useful way to look at things at all.

For example, Fox used to be far less biased, and far less factually inaccurate, than it is now. It has changed greatly over the past few years. One of the best areas to see this is in climate change, where they are now openly and rather blatantly spreading disinformation on the topic.

So, I can say that Fox is more biased now than it has been in the past; it seems to me bewildering to leap to the automatic conclusion that MSNBC, or any other news source, has likewise changed in exactly the same measure over the same time.

This is what I mean by the quality vs. quantity distinction; MSNBC is definitely biased towards the Democratic side. But they have a degree of balance, as shown with the Morning Joe program alone, that Fox lacks. In addition, while Olberman is a fatuous Jerk, there is no one on MSNBC that has the idiotic, paranoid delusions of Beck, no one that promotes fringe societies like the Birch society, and the station as a whole doesn't present a completely false picture of a scientific issue-- climate change-- out of political affiliation.

This is why I respect you, when you argue you have your evidence handy. But nobody watches all that crap on TV constantly or they'd have no life. So while everything you say is based on solid evidence, in the real world most people don't even watch 95% of it. I'm a TV producer and we do lots of research about our product. If you look at the viewing habits of Americans, our attention span is incredibly short. There are very succesful shows out there where the average viewer of that show watches around 11 minutes out of each hour. So while beck, hannity, and their competitors blather on and on, the fact is that a lot FEWER people are buying it than you think. And with the advent of the internet, lots of migration is taking place to online sources of news. And last time I checked, the left has excellent representation via kos, huffpo, and others including lgf.

re: #37 Renaissance_Man

Consider the circumstances. The American economy is in the worst shape it's been for half a century or more. All three branches of government were controlled by one party, which in this binary system you have leaves only one party to take the blame. Unemployment is at 10%.

[etc]

Their most insane candidates snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. And it wasn't just completely insane candidates - other races that were basically locks, not just winnable, were still lost.

The media meme will of course be this 'Red Wave' nonsense. It makes great copy, it creates a great narrative, and it gives viewers what they expect. In the case of FOX, it gives the cult their expected result and fits their worldview as well. But if I were a GOP strategist I'd be deeply disappointed in this result. Frankly, it's a colossal failure.

The GOP core philosophy of limited government and prudence is at odds with the ill-advised wish list of one of its major voting blocs, the social conservatives who want the government to get out of education because science doesn't suit their religious beliefs. This also hinders GOP institutional comprehension of the mismatch between their "prudence" principle, and their failure to accept the necessity to take prudent measures to limit AGW.

The demographics of the nation are shifting, with unstoppable momentum, to a mix in which the traditional GOP mainstay looms ever smaller. It's not just immigration. Biological "borders" erode as a result of intermarriage and class mobility. But class divisions remain, and the class structure of America is seeing the middle class split into two cadres---a lower-upper class that makes very good money, courtesy of well honed talent and maybe some privilege, and a struggling middle that must retrench and downscale its hopes and ambitions.

Given these circumstances, it's a wonder the GOP ever scores any sort of electoral success. Of course the GOP fails. But why did the Dems open the door so wide? Two years of enacting badly thought through health care reform, almost to the exclusion of effective steps to get the economy back on its feet, brought us to this point.

Wouldn't it be nice if the new permanent ruling party managed things well enough that the GOP had to come to grips with reality, especially with the realities of science, before it could once again make a difference on the national political scene?

But class divisions remain, and the class structure of America is seeing the middle class split into two cadres---a lower-upper class that makes very good money, courtesy of well honed talent and maybe some privilege, and a struggling middle that must retrench and downscale its hopes and ambitions.

This sort of separation can also be a consequence of inadequate education which has some irony considering the position of the this weird politically driven anti-education, anti-intellectualism and anti-science meme that appears to be at play right now in some quarters. It's like shooting yourself in the foot without realizing you're holding the gun in the first place.
I've read many here comment about how the dysfunctional relationship with 'science' that the is coming out of the religious right wing quarters and supported at least with rhetoric by many of the current crop of right wing pols could lead to fall in the US's ability function relative to the rest of the world in terms of science and technological power of innovation. This is possible but I don't see it happening in the shorter term.

What is more likely to happen if this trend moves chugs along is a further separation (I would argue that it is already happening at a minor level) between classes of people and if particular states manage to gain the type of control that people are ranting about wanting between whole peoples growing up in those areas.
For every kid that isn't taught skills and knowledge that are usuable and usable in a world where higher paid jobs and higher paid depend on such knowledge (mobility) that leaves more room for kids who do get it, as well as less competition overall. They will be the ones with the ability to more easily pursue higher forms of education and get the jobs or create their own higher paying jobs.

Regardless of the problems with public education one of it's main functions and consequences is it equalizes the foundations and the accessibility to knowledge among a wide variety and class of people. If public education as a whole or in parts, say certain states and counties gets decimated, especially related to 'science' education as a whole is not going to disappear. Some kids will get what they need whether it's by being or purposely (as in parents move) in locales that do do it well or by having families that can pay for it in the private realm. Of course this already happens to a certain extent but if these people get their way it would likely happen even more.

Long-term it's quite easy to imagine a further polarization of 'elites, well educated' vs those with a more substandard knowledge base, possibly more state vs state conflict and more 'class' conflict.

It's the irony of what is really a self full-filling prophecy. The 'solutions' being proposed lead to more of what the people proposing the solutions appear to be complaining about in the first place.

It ought to be a national embarrassment that there aren't 10 Large Hadron Colliders in the US. It's disgraceful that our chief exports are warfare and Lady Gaga.

re: #37 Renaissance_Man

Consider the circumstances. The American economy is in the worst shape it's been for half a century or more. All three branches of government were controlled by one party, which in this binary system you have leaves only one party to take the blame. Unemployment is at 10%.

My problem is that pathetically few Americans seem to get how the Senate works.

60 votes including a guy who ran against the current president, is by no means "total control" of the Senate, especially for the democrats who must be the gigantic tent party if the Republicans are the "big tent party" by comparison....

I've said before (probably ad nauseum) that I dislike Olberman specifically because he seems to think he's Edward R. Murrow. However, he frustrates me for exactly the same reason that the contemptibly dishonest Michael Moore frustrates me: Sooner or later, he'll make a couple of really solid, strong arguments that I completely agree with, and that will make me hate him even more for forcing me to agree with him.

The same thing happened during the 2008 election. Someone asked for Matt Damon's opinion about Sarah Palin, and he wisely pointed out that Vladimir Putin plays no-shit hardball, and her folksy soccer mom bullshit is no match for that. Sarah Palin made me agree with Matt Fucking Damon. That's pretty much inexcusable.

Oh, and it's written by Barack Obama

[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

I'd like to see any member of the GOP match that level of economic acuity.

As Canadian exports found out not too long ago, the fastest way to increase exports is to have a dollar lower than the standard, which is the US dollar. Unless the US devalues their dollar, increasing exports will be difficult up against other countries with strong technology sectors but with currency more affordable to importers than the US buck.

The head needs some TLC. It needs a completely new set of tubes, the pots need to be cleaned, as well as the EQ sliders. It probably should be re-biased and just gone over in general. As it currently is, it blows fuses, so clearly there is something wrong with it. I haven't even powered it up in many years, just so you know.

Steve Vai recorded a song called "Blue Powder" using the Carvin X100-B amp in nineteen-eighty-something. It was explicitly intended as a demonstration of the amp, and involved no pedals or post-processing. Guitar Player magazine featured it as a flexi-disc (if you remember GP flexidiscs and turntables, then holy shit you're old), and the song eventually ended up several years later on Vai's album, "Passion and Warfare".

Yemen orders US-born cleric found 'dead or alive'

With his sudden trial and the arrest order, Yemen appears to be trying to show its American allies that it considers the cleric a serious threat.

Judge Mohsen Allwan ordered al-Awlaki to be "arrested by force, dead or alive" after he failed to appear for the start of his trial in Yemen on Tuesday. He was charged last week as a co-defendant in a surprise announcement as part of the trial of another man, Hisham Assem, who has been accused of killing a Frenchman in an Oct. 6 attack at an oil firm compound.

Al-Awlaki's name and that of a cousin, Othman al-Awlaki, were added as defendants in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Othman al-Awlaki had put Assem indirectly in e-mail contact with Anwar al-Awlaki.

In Tuesday's court session, Assem denied all charges and claimed he had been tortured in detention to make false confessions. He repeated those claims on Saturday.

Yep, in Spanish class no less.

But Brenda Lyons, associate superintendent and public information officer for the Edmond School District, defended the class assignment, saying the school's language curriculum calls for students to translate and recite something that they are familiar with.

“The Pledge assignment has been in place for years.” Lyons told FoxNews.com. “It is written in the curriculum for Spanish that students need to learn something they are familiar with, like short phrases in the foreign language.”

She said students and parents were made aware of the assignment at the beginning of the school year, and added: “If a parent has an issue with an assignment and calls in advance of that assignment being given, then the student can be given an alternative assignment.”

This is the caliber of people we are dealing with today.

The Canon Rebel (well under $1000, maybe $700) is great, the new one is really good, great stills, 720 video...
Great deals abound on last years model. Better than the point and shooters. Good lens standard. The big difference from say the upmarket 50 or 60 D is its not as big and rugged. That's a smart compromise for the careful owner. It has plenty of megapixels and a good processor. Many pros carry the rebel for a backup body.

Actually, I remember the tune, didn't even know the origins of it... I was doing some googling this morning for my trip to France, came across the artist Serge Gainsbourg, looked him up, found his version of the song, and then the instrumental version by "Sounds Nice" and suddenly realized I had heard it before, actually sat down at the keyboard and played along with the YouTube video... I suspect I had played it with one of the many bands I was in between 1970-82... I've probably forgotten more music than I can remember.

What's even more interesting, look up Serge Gainsbourg... who physically looks like the bastard step child of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Woody Allen. Quite a "ladies man" even though, IMO, he looks like a troll.

Taxed Enough Already?

On Friday, Cantor even rejected President Obama's call for additional tax breaks to spur hiring, such as a proposal to let businesses deduct their expenses more quickly.

Republicans offer "a disciplined approach to removing uncertainty and to allowing the private sector to regain its footing and begin to grow again," Cantor said in an interview. "Trying to prod business to do what Washington wants is not what is needed. We need to rein in this desire of Washington to tell business how to grow."

That hands-off strategy - combined with GOP plans for an immediate and dramatic reduction in government spending - would do more harm than good, said Bill Gale, a senior fellow in economics studies at the Brookings Institution.

"I don't get what they think they're doing to stimulate the economy right now," Gale said. "I can understand that people are angry or upset about the economy. But I can't understand how that anger and anxiety has turned into this set of legislative proposals."

Still can. I'll keep my Leica IIIf & Summitar over any current digital. They have their place and some are damn good but nothing yet beats Pan F or Plus-X on a sunny day. Go large format and the disparity gets hard to believe. Of course, you either have to dunk your own (as I do) or pay a good lab (there are still more than a couple out there) but the results are well worth it. When we move next summer the Boss has promised a room for me and my Omega 4x5 enlarger.

I just had a personal experience with someone else board that I have know for years. I have always considered her a smart and intelligent person and one who generally has held a moderate worldview. Over the past few months though her viewpoint on most everything has been drastically shifting into what I can only describe as an over all fear of most everything (especially muslims and the threat of Islam) as well as a drastic change in her views on criminals and punishment. It's turning into basically lock up and throw away the key no matter what. Yesterday she even let out a rant about how 'whites' aren't even allowed to celebrate their culture anymore without it being called hate. The US is being over run by Mexicans apparently and this is one of the main reasons for the economic downturn in parts of the US. Her discussions have also been slowly turning into a succession of talking points rather then what they used to be, basically much more critical in analysis.

I had been really wondering what the heck was behind this change (I'm not the only one who has noticed) and I think I got a bit of insight into part of it at least. Purely anecdotal of course but I really can't help but see a connection. About six months ago her ailing Dad moved into her home and she stated that basically he spends his time, because he can't do anything else watching tv. She was complaining about how it was really annoying at first because he has it on all of the time but she eventually got used to it.

Anyone what to take a guess at what channel has been on the majority of the time?

Yesterday she even let out a rant about how 'whites' aren't even allowed to celebrate their culture anymore without it being called hate.

How do whites celebrate their culture? What culture izzat? I mean, I can celebrate my Irish heritage and do most every St. Pat's day. I can celebrate my German heritage at Oktoberfest. I can celebrate my Cherokee heritage by going to a Pow Wow (oh wait - they aren't the white part). So really, what culture are whites celebrating?

Beats me. That whole line is just bogus as far as I'm concerned. Generalized statements like that one though come straight out of the white suprememist land of rhetoric and I was really shocked when I read it from her. I actually don't think she'd have any direct answer to those questions. Someone did ask for some specific example of something that she wanted to celebrate and people said was hateful but the answer just changed the subject into something about the problems with immigrants assimilating. You know it's just more about 'feeling' that this is the case rather then concrete examples or perhaps just repeating something that someone else has said without really thinking it through.

I find the whole white suprememist thing just sad. The hate is just a by-product I think, a focus so to speak, for people who think so little of themselves that the only thing they feel they have going for themselves is a lack of melanin.
