Meet Arkansas GOP State Representative Loy Mauch

Wingnuts • Views: 25,968

This midterm election will go down in history as the Year the Wingnuts Came Out of the Woodwork and Took Office. Case in point: Republican Loy Mauch, newly elected state representative from Arkansas House District 26, an overt neo-Confederate who once hosted a conference with a keynote address titled, “Homage to John Wilkes Booth.” Yikes.

From the Arkansas Times, by David Koon: The South shall rise again.

LOY MAUCH: Photographed at a conference on Abraham Lincoln. (Click to enlarge.)A former head of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans post in Hot Springs, Mauch calls the Confederate flag “a symbol of Jesus Christ,” and is a current member of The League of the South, a group which works toward the formation of an independent Southern nation.

Founded in 1994 in Killen, Ala., The League of the South advocates for “the secession and subsequent independence of the southern states from this forced union and the formation of a southern republic,” according to the “Introduction” page on its website. The site also encourages members to “personally secede from the corrupt and corrupting influence of post-Christian culture in America” by home-schooling children and creating “parallel institutions to which people can attach their loyalties.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center calls the group a “neo-Confederate” organization, adding that League rhetoric often bears racist overtones. “The League believes the ‘godly’ nation it wants to form should be run by an ‘Anglo-Centric’ (read: white) elite that would establish a Christian theocratic state and politically dominate blacks and other minorities,” an SPL report said. …

Asked about his involvement in the League of the South, which listed him as the chairman of their western Arkansas chapter as late as 2005, Mauch said that he’s a dues paying member, but is too busy to be active in the organization and doesn’t attend meetings. He said the chair position was “just a title.” Contrary to the League website, Mauch said the group doesn’t want the former Confederacy to stray from the Union again. “We don’t think we should secede from the Union,” Mauch said. “We just want constitutional government. Secession has never been unconstitutional.”

For seven years, Mauch was the commander of James M. Keller Camp 648 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He stepped down as commander last year. In 2004, angered by the city of Hot Springs’ refusal to remove a statue of Abraham Lincoln displayed in the Hot Springs Civic and Convention Center, the Keller Camp hosted a conference in Hot Springs called “Seminar on Abraham Lincoln — Truth vs. Myth,” with a keynote address called “Homage to John Wilkes Booth.”

Mauch said that he believes Lincoln didn’t follow the Constitution. Of the statue of Lincoln in the convention center, Mauch said: “I didn’t think it had any place down in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He wasn’t friendly to Arkansas. He didn’t have anything to do with Arkansas. Nobody in Arkansas voted for him.”

“We don’t think we should secede from the Union,” Mauch said. “We just want constitutional government. Secession has never been unconstitutional.”

That makes no sense.

We don’t want to secede but BTW secession is totally constitutional?

Another nut:

When asked what the Confederate flag symbolizes, Mauch said: “It’s a symbol of constitutional government. It’s a symbol of Jesus Christ above all else. It’s a symbol of Biblical government.”

Mauch has used the phrase “Biblical government,” in letters to the editor before, but said he doesn’t mean a theocracy. “It’s just that the government has limitations,” he said. “Christians are commanded to obey the laws of the land as ordained by God. It’s like that… it’s constitutional government, with limitations on government.”

Find God, or Jesus for that matter, in the Constitution.

It’s also on the Scottish flag, St. Andrew was crucified on an X-shaped cross.

But really, this is not just historical reenacting or dressing up in Confederate officer’s uniforms, this is Confederate revivalism.

But once again, the whole image behind the Tea Party is that of a movement against a tyrannical usurper.

Is a legally and democratically elected government a tyrannical usurper, or are those rebelling against it themselves traitorous usupers?

31 Mad Prophet Ludwig  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 12:24:22pm

PIMF without typos because it is important for me to say:

Something for legitimate Christians to take note of:

A former head of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans post in Hot Springs, Mauch calls the Confederate flag “a symbol of Jesus Christ,” and is a current member of The League of the South, a group which works toward the formation of an independent Southern nation.

I am always very clear that I respect Christianity and I admire actual Christians. Actual Christians care about the world. They are humble, kind hearted, giving and forgiving. In short, they are people I, and everyone can learn from.

That said, lets talk about what being an actual “Christian” means for all too many.

The Confederate flag symbolizes a group that fought for its “right” to brutally enslave, degrade, dehumanize, rape, abuse, bull whip, terrorize and murder other human beings. It stands “the right” of subjecting those people to that condition and to be bred like animals and used as chattels since birth. It should never be seen as anything different than a swastika by civilized people.

It stands for perpetuating that sort of hatred, fear, greed and simple evil.

It stands for attempting to destroy the legitimate government of the United States.

All of this in the name of Jesus.

As someone from a culture that has felt all too much “Christian love” of a much less than loving variety, you know, pogroms, Inquisitions, generic massacres, places that won’t do business with us, quotas and yes, Germans, Poles and Russians- all that - it can sometimes be hard to distinguish Christianity from its history, particularly when we have so very many throwback “Christians” like this creature Loy Mauch make that history so much of the present reality for so many “Christians.”

I despise those types as much as Jihadis. There is little difference. They are both unwashed, ignorant, hate filled, racist bigots who are proud of their cruelty and ignorance.

In fact, lets be really clear. They are both cancerous abominations who profane the very concept of G-d.

32 brookly red  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 12:24:43pm

That is not a coincidence. Much of the South was settled by Scotch-Irish and the ruling class were the losers of the English Civil War who sided with the Stuart King.

34 sffilk  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 12:26:13pm

The reason no one voted for Abraham Lincoln in Arkansas is that he wasn’t on the ballot! And as far as the Confederate flag being a symbol of Jesus, that tells me that Mr. Mauch may also be a Jew-hater. I wonder what would happen if he were to be told that thanks to a Jew he is able to rant about the negativity of the United States because it was a Jew who financed the American Revolution. The U.S. thanked him by allowing him to die a pauper.

35 Our Precious Bodily Fluids  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 12:27:08pm
The site also encourages members to “personally secede from the corrupt and corrupting influence of post-Christian culture in America” by home-schooling children and creating “parallel institutions to which people can attach their loyalties.”

Can’t these people just pool their money or hold a bake sale or something, and use the proceeds to buy a small island somewhere in the middle of the Pacific where they can white-power it up to their hearts’ content, far away from the corrupting influence of post-Christian America? Loy Mauch could even be the first president.

re: #36 Talking Point Detective

Does the fact that Charles posted an article that I linked to yesterday prove that I’m not a “troll.”

Or does the fact that Ludwig is 99.5% sure that I’m a troll prove false all contrary evidence?

Does the fact that you are so keen to keep that going count as a data point?

38 Obdicut  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 12:28:50pm

re: #36 Talking Point Detective

It proves you’re kind of obsessed with the topic.

If you keep posting good stuff and making reasonable comments, nobody will think you’re a troll.

If you keep obsessing over what one poster thinks of you, and bring it up over and over, it’s going to be really weird.

39 What, me worry?  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 12:30:14pm

re: #34 sffilk

It’s been my experience with these types of people that haters are haters and there’s not much sunlight between the kinds of people they hate. It’s not so much they are anti-Semitic or anti-Black or whatever as much as they are pro-White and pro-Christian (or their brand of Christianity), which of course makes them pretty much anti-everything else.

41 General Nimrod Bodfish  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 12:31:07pm

Wow, we’re 145 years removed from the American Civil War, one of the bloodiest (and saddest) wars American soldiers have fought, and there are still social retarders who fantasize about it, who want a return to the evil, bloody racism that has been, will probably forever be, one of the blackest stains on our national fabric (right next to the treatment of the Native American population).

They want blacks/non-whites to be treated like private property (Luap Nor!)! How the fuck are these ideals still living! It should have been buried along with the Confederacy! Yet, the ignoramuses in the South fantasize, no, fetishize, such ideals, like they sit at the computers reading how slaves were treated and stimulate themselves, I bet.

Damn, I can’t keep my thoughts straight now, it’s just so. Fucking. Ridiculous! I do wish these people would just disappear from the national consciousness, ridiculed as they should be, maybe even put into cages at zoos as exhibits. They are just like neo-Nazis.

re: #35 negativ

I like the island scenario. Particularly if the rest of the capitalist world charge them up the wazzu for imported goods… like food. (They wouldn’t need no medicine or nuthin’, since prayer and scripture would replace anything resembling science.

In ten years it would be a cesspool; overpopulated, polluted beyond belief, every yard would have a ratty old Camaro on blocks, and nary a blade of grass left standing. At that point, maybe one of those acts of God they talk about so much could come along and carry the remainders out to sea.

It’s win-win for humanity.

The neo-confederates say we should have pride in our heritage. Sure, I’m proud ot be Virginian in that i come from the state of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Mason, and many others more. I’m not and I will never be proud to be from the state that held the captial of the treasonous entity known as the confederacy. I don’t get it. The right always acts like the left is “treasonous” yet I always see people on the right and not the left as more apt to apologize for the confederacy. The confederacy’s sole purpose was to protect the existence of slavery. How can they seriously call Lincoln the aggressor when most of the states seceded before he even took office?

I worked with a woman who was pining away for the 1950s where you can go anywhere without locking your door, neighbors said, “Hi” to each other, and children were seen and not heard… blah blah blah.

And Blacks could only drink from Black-only drinking fountains, sit in the back of the bus and couldn’t vote. Women had a choice of 3 jobs: waitress, teacher or nurse and #1 priority was keeping the hubby happy and sexed up.

She didn’t like that answer.

re: #44 Obdicut

A habit? No. One instance wouldn’t prove a habit of anything. Just as you accusing me of making a homophobic comment doesn’t imply that you talk out of your ass regularly, either, just that you were kind of upset at the time.

Seriously, you’re just looking creepy right now. What is the best possible outcome of this scenario for you?

Technically, I didn’t accuse you of making a homophobic comment, I asked if your comment was homophobic. You explained it wasn’t, and I dropped it.

Ludwig, on the other hand, has made numerous posts with his “scientific” analysis of the probability that I’m a troll. He has also pontificated, numerous times, about which former LGF commenter I am most likely to be.

And let’s not forget all his “scieintific” calculations that proved with “90%” certainty that a missile was launched off the coast of Cali (which were all wrong as it later turned out, and his hilarious attempt to blame others that: (1) He didn’t calculate how far a missile would travel during the flight time he witnessed while watching the video clip and (2), He declared something to be 90% certain without controlling for the obvious variable of flight time.

So, your one off characterization of his speaking out of his ass isn’t accurate.

But it is touching that you defend him with such passion.

But I’m willing to let bygones be bygones. I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to tweak him again for his arrogance. As long as he doesn’t come after me personally again as he did in the previous thread, I’m happy to drop it at this point.

Maybe a year or so ago, a nasty little ex-lizard named Kirly went after Charles for rightly shunning this “Andy Griffith” mentality and posted some asinine thing on her blog about how wonderful it would be if we all lived in Mayberry. It is, of course, if you’re white and male, or a woman who doesn’t have a thought in her pretty little head.

people who don’t embrace diversity (at least on some levels) are only screwing themselves. demographics are changing quickly in this country and those who choose to ignore that do so at their own peril. Sadly, there are many who are afraid to see the world as it is and adjust accordingly.

re: #31 LudwigVanQuixote

PIMF without typos because it is important for me to say:

Something for legitimate Christians to take note of:

Damn, you can rant.

That is because Sandia Peak has been uplifted through orogenic mountain building processes that also exposed the marine sediments which had been buried. The sediments were not deposited on a mountain top. They came first…the mountain came later.

Ludwig being right, consistently, for a hell of a long time, on the subject of AGW and other scientific topics, vs. Ludwig being wrong about you being a troll and wrong about a missile launch

= Ludwig has a habit of talking out of his ass?

How does that work for you, exactly?

I’m sorry that you got annoyed that you were called a troll. I didn’t, and don’t, think you were a troll. You did, however, make a terrible, terrible argument that was so poorly done that it did appear as very close to trolling. That you are so angry about this that you’re still bringing it up threads later, and going after Ludwig on unrelated issues, really does make you look more and more like a troll.

Your original comment to Ludwig, in this thread, was to ‘tweak’ him. In other words, you wrote a post just to get a rise out of him. In other words, you trolled him.

Old joke.

A lawyer’s water quit working one Sunday. He really needed it back and it took several frantic calls before he found a plumber that would work that day.

The plumber came over, checked the pipes, did a little work and got the water running again. Took fifteen minutes.

“That’s $250.” the plumber told the lawyer.

“What!” exclaimed the lawyer. “I’m a lawyer and I can’t charge $250 for fifteen minutes work.”

“Neither could I when I was a lawyer,” replies the plumber.

I have learned the secret to unclogging most organic material drain blocks.

1 cup of baking soda
1 cup of heated to scalding vinegar
wait 5 minutes
2 gallons of boiling water.

If that doesn’t work, I’m calling your guys.

I do the same thing, minus heating the vinegar. Works like a charm.

This is a bit of a digression, but can anyone explain to me why there’s a major highway named after Jefferson Davis right outside DC? There also seem to be quite a few Jeff Davis high schools in the south.

With all this memorialization, why should anyone be surprised that there are people who think that the Confederacy had merit?

Didn’t know about that but I have a friend whose father was an alum of a high school named after Jeb Stuart. And my dad grew up near Lee Highway. ANd here in Virginia we celebrated Lee-Jackson-King day for the longest time too. I just don’t get why we celebrate these guys. They were traitors and I am sick of the sugarcoating that goes with that. Yes, you can be proud of your great great great grandfather but you can’t sugarcoat what the confederacy was all about and that is what drives me nuts about neo-confeds. Well that and they act like the union cause was somehow not noble. My only civil war relative was a German immigrant who fought for this country.

I think it’s magical balance politics. If not for throwing the neo-confederates a bone here and there with this or that war hero, they’d have nothing to crow about. Somebody somewhere feels it’s important they keep their dignity about the whole sordid affair. And its effects are obvious: it translates to not only comfortable, but proud, denial.

These drains were about the worst he had seen, and there’s a bad pitch in the run from the sink drain making it even worse… that will only get fixed when I redo the kitchen. The pitch was contributing to the buildup because everything was sitting in there.

We have a phenomenon that’s called “pipe hammering”. You plumber peoples will know about this, I’m sure.

I’m also guessing that’s why people think their homes are haunted. It sounds like groaning under the house. When our plumber came, he said there was nothing problematic with pipe hammering (air moving through the pipes in old homes), but did you know your septic is overflowing? $500 later, we have a clean septic, but the pipes are still making noise.

Last weekend, the groaning was replaced by a rattling coming form the bathroom that was so loud, you could see the pipes actually shaking. Internet to the Rescue! We cut off the water main and opened two faucets to let the air out. Fixed it like a charm.

Yea, I’m worried about this plumber telling us that pipe hammering is nothing to worry about and then finding a really expensive problem to deal with.

On top of which, he not only spent 20 minutes trying to convince my husband to move the drain field (at LEAST $5000) but he kept calling to badger us about it. And the pipes are still groaning.

I have to give this more thought. I think I know another plumber to call.

re: #154 marjoriemoon

My b-in-law has a bad water hammer issue. It’s caused when the water hits a fast closing valve and hammers - it’s a combination of air issues and water pressure. There are water hammer arresters that can fix the problem (usually solves the problem on washing machines where the problem can be pronounced, but sometimes happens on other fixtures. You can get arresters for individual fixtures or for a whole house - usually placed before the water heater. It gives the water a place to go without rattling the entire house.

171 Amory Blaine  Tue, Nov 16, 2010 1:36:25pm

re: #168 marjoriemoon

I don’t mean to worry you about that. A plumber fixing the hammering shouldn’t lead to bigger problems. I only mean to say that someone not aware of corrosion on galvanized pipe might start wrenching on it and break the pipe off at the joint. That would be more of a user error than of a larger problem. Air hammering is common and can be fixed easy. Usually the hard part is closing up the wall in a workmanlike manner.

We have a small home, no basement and if the sound of the hammering is any indication of where it is, than we know exactly where it’s coming from. It’s something I think my husband could tackle, but then with the age of the pipes and all, it would probably be better to call the plumber.

re: #128 albusteve

actually the Sandias were not lifted by orogenic processes…the entire central valley of the Rio Grande sunk in a cataclysmic event, associated with the volcanic rise of the Jemez range to the northwest…just for clarity

Okay.
Apatite fission-track (FT) data collected in the northern and central Rio Grande rift of NM and CO indicate that rocks now exposed in the eastern and western margins of the rift cooled during uplift and erosion in a complex spatial and temporal pattern. FT data from the Santa Fe Range, Los Piños Mountains, and northern Nacimiento Mountains indicate that these mountain blocks cooled during the early stage of the Laramide orogenic event. Other mountain blocks began cooling during the late stage of the Laramide event and subsequent Eocene erosion. The Sandia Mountains, Blanca Peak, Joyita Hills, Sierra Ladrones, the high-elevation portion of the Sawatch Range, and the lower-elevation samples in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains began cooling during early extension of the Rio Grande rift and/or waning of regional volcanism in the late Oligocene and early Miocene. The eastern front of the Sawatch Range, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains north of Blanca Peak, the low-elevation portion of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near San Luis, Colorado, and the Lemitar Mountains cooled during late-stage rifting in middle to late Miocene. Generally, the youngest FT ages are found in the rift flanks adjacent to large normal faults along the deep margins of the en echelon half-grabens that make up the present Rio Grande rift. Two of the blocks with Miocene FT ages, the Sierra Ladrones and Blanca Peak, are promontories that project into the rift basins at the junction of arcuate normal faults bounding the deep side half-grabens. Tectonic denudation of three sides has allowed unusually rapid isostatic uplift in these blocks. Similarly, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains north of Blanca Peak are bounded on two sides by active late Cenozoic faults that have allowed the rapid isostatic rise of these mountains. Cooling rates increased from the Laramide orogenic event (1º to 4º C/Ma) to the development of the Rio Grande rift (7º to 20º C/Ma).

The Southern Rocky Mountains in CO and NM have had a long and complex geologic history, culminating in the Late Cretaceous to late Eocene with the compressional Laramide orogenic event. A widespread surface of low relief was carved across much of the area in late Eocene. Major volcanism affected the province during the Oligocene. The Rio Grande rift, an extensional feature that bisects the Southern Rocky Mountains, began to form about 30 Ma and developed during two phases of regional extension. The early northeast-southwest-oriented phase of extension is characterized by the development of broad, shallow basins, low-amplitude topographic relief, local areas of intense extensions associated with low-angle normal faults, and the emplacement of large volumes of silicic ash-flow tuffs and basaltic andesite lavas. The later phase of extension is characterized by the development of deep half-grabens, high topographic relief, the formation of widely spaced, high-angle normal faults, and the emplacement of alkali-olivine and tholeiitic basalts.

Well I am entertained. They have a certain passion for me you know.

Maybe it was all of those time I pointed out that Snork can’t do calculus. Or that he doesn’t understand basic thermodynamics or how a thermos works and therefore isn’t quite the engineer he claims to be. Of course, he doesn’t believe that water expands when it gets hotter either.

Or maybe it was pointing out that woman beating and abusing isn’t right to Savage.

Or maybe it was all the times when they misquote their bibles and profane G-d’s name, I point to what it actually says - Buzzy.

And it is true, I have been less than kind to the genocidal preachings of the Rodent.

Not sure really.

I mean what did I ever do to them?

In fact, I should point out the letter that was written to them - not by me that got them so very riled up. I didn’t pen it. If I had, I would have been a lot more specific about things I know about them and I would have cussed differently. Using female body parts as insults really isn’t my style. I also would have posted under “Ludwigvanquixote” because I know how much it would have pissed them off - and I would have found that very, very funny.

In fact, part of pissing them off is that I pointedly don’t go over there.

Another thing I adore is how certain this is me - or maybe reg or maybe Cato… or maybe Ice or even maybe you!

So seriously, how goes your web war fellas?

I’m curious about a few things.

Why does Snork AKA My little pony have such a fetish for girls toys? Gay is all good, but into little girl stuff for a fifty something loser is just creepy.

Where is Princess Natasha? Is he still angry at being outed as a man? And why is there another one of you infatuated with teen girl entertainment? Dudes that’s like pedo land.

Why is Iron Fist such a constant bed wetting whiner? If he is such a warrior, why is he so scared of everything all the time?

Is Rodan drunk tonight? Again? Has he found a date yet or is he still too much of an Adonis? You have no idea how much I laughed when I typed that.

So Chen Zen – you are a kung fu master? Are you sure? I mean your little bouts of web fu seem to have not killed the blog at all. If anything you give it publicity by showcasing how nuts you sick pervs are and by showing how much the blog has changed since CJ banned your pathetic and useless asses.

You do see that right? You are proving CJ’s point about how much the blog has changed for the better since you freaks have gone.

It really is so much better without you losers.

And you are not the stalkers? You have two entire blogs dedicated to reading every word of our blog and you sift through it everyday. Your victim complexes are just the right size to coincide with your insane gibbering pussies.

Please write some more about how tough and fierce you all are. We at LGF are so very scared of you.

Hey guys you were so certain it was Cato last time… You sure it isn’t again?

re: #31 LudwigVanQuixote

PIMF without typos because it is important for me to say:

Something for legitimate Christians to take note of:

The Confederate Flag as a current symbol is all that you see it as. But the actual confederacy did not go in for mass murder. Its Quantrills and Nathan Bedford Forrests were regarded with distaste, to the point that the CSA shunted Forrest off to the sidelines. He was just too icky for them, never mind that he always seemed to win no matter the odds.

Now I’m no fan of either man, nor of the Confederate States of America. The CSA fought for an independence it should not have had, in the name of a right no man can have, the right to own slaves. Both Quantrill and Forrest were guilty of mass murder, the one of civilians in Lawrence, Kansas, and the other, of black POWs after a battle.

But even these monsters had their limits. The SS, when it destroyed the French village of Ouradour, killed everyone. Quantrill spared the lives of the women and children.

The CSA, generally, abstained from war crimes. When passing through the North on raids or invasions, Lee’s armies foraged liberally but left intact what they could not use. There was an awful POW camp at Andersonville, but this happened in spite of CSA policy, not because of it.

The CSA did not exterminate domestic political malcontents. It had no secret police. I’ve met Nazis, the real thing and unreconstructed. And I’ve read enough civil war history to have a sense of what it would have been like to meet Lee, or Longstreet, or Jeff Davis. These men weren’t Nazis. Reading about them doesn’t make my skin crawl. I’m just glad they lost.

If Lincoln could counsel forgiveness and reintegration into society, it was because he realized that for all their faults and errors, and sins, these men were within reach of rehabilitation. At their core, they weren’t monsters, weren’t evil.

The historic Confederacy is no Third Reich, and the stars and bars, in the context of their own time, were no swastika.

Today’s neoconfederates, now, that’s another story. Lincoln counseled forgiveness. Lee surrendered. And Mauch maybe didn’t get the memo. Game over, his side lost.

America may be headed for a repeat, or an approximate repeat, of the 1861 - 1865 Civil War. Not that the battles would be similar or anything, but some of the 50 states may well end up seceding from the Union, or changing drastically. The current animosity to Obama from Dixieland is incredibly intense. It may be that Israelis and Palestinians make peace before the American states do.

It’s not so much they are anti-Semitic or anti-Black or whatever as much as they are pro-White and pro-Christian (or their brand of Christianity), which of course makes them pretty much anti-everything else.
