She was definitely a bright spot in what would have been a middling case of sequel-itis in Back to the Future III…and I love the whole trilogy.

Tea Party Nation Founder: ‘A Wise Idea’ To Only Let Property Owners Vote
Judson Phillips, the founder of the group Tea Party Nation, has defended his comments that the Founding Fathers’ original plan to only allow property owners to vote “makes a lot of sense” because “property owners have a little bit more of a vested interest in the community than non-property owners.”

It’s said that those voters played a big role in electing Andrew Jackson four years later. Unbelievable that this fool is talking like this. I don’t think we can blame the politicians entirely. If we actually rewarded them for telling us the truth instead of what we wanted to hear, we might get better pols. As it is, we get exactly the politicians we deserve.
people need reinforcement…it’s a symbiotic relationship and hard to blame anyone under our system, which is world class when our leadership is honest and actually serves the country…ultimately we get what we pay for

Time for me to fly again. I’m trying to get back into coding after being out of it for about 4-5 years (longer if you don’t consider VB a real language) so I’m off to read some more C# and .net stuff.
Wish me luck.

True but now that I think about it I’m more concerned with the politicians who will actually do what they say. I’m happy Obama was pandering with his campaign promises about recklessly closing GITMO and perilous withdrawal from Iraq regardless of consequences. Hillary probably would have done the same thing. McCain was pandering as best he could. I’m worried about the true believers like Ron Paul, Huckabee, Tancredo, etc. Those guys will actually try to implement their agenda and I find it spooky.

We have some in Portland, but that’s their problem. They’re in Portland. I don’t think they’ll get any traction anywhere else. No way in hell would Earl Blumenhauer ever get elected to any higher office than his gig as our congressman. he’s sort of an irritable hyper-smart wonk, really good at representing us, but wouldn’t do well as a senator

I’ve always wanted a person to come up from the House and win the presidency…if there is a good solid compromising moderate, that’s where you will find them
Really?
Who needs compromise in the house? You get more people on your side than the other, you vote for what you want it passes.
That’s what Nancy Pelosi has been doing for the last 4 years, no maor “compromises” needed.
Also the fact that you get elected by a section of a state rather than the entire thing plus Gerrymandering means you only need to appeal to a small minority of people of one type or another to get elected over and over again…

Its the hideously massive sums of money being tossed about to influence people, and a lot of pressure to take it, because if you won’t take it, your opponent will, and he will beat the pants off you if you don’t take the money. It takes very strong convictions and massive amounts of personal wealth, or a gerrymandered district of people who will vote for you even if you rape sheep on national television. A few of them are ok, just by chance. Most of them are nuts.

I listened to Rush for a few months when I moved back here from Europe some time in the 1990s. I was trying to figure out what alien monster had sucked the brains out of my father and brother, leaving behind only empty, resonating shells around which horrible ideas rattled. I had to stop listening because he was on in the evening and I couldn’t sleep after listening to him. My stomach still curdles if I accidentally hear his voice.
But it was fascinating. I’ve listened to and read a lot of other right-wing voices and none has the utter consistency of Limbaugh. He has a real, coherent social philosophy and an insidiously brilliant way of conveying it. Future historians will look back at Beck as a charlatan and people like Anne Coulter as opportunists, but Rush is formidable.

A UK curry would blow your mind.

How old is your son?
If he’s at an age where he’s interested in girls, mention to him that girls LOVE guys who can dance. There are so few, and those few, well, get a LOT of attention.
Unfortunately, nine, so, no dice yet. I’m going for the “Your uncle was a cool break dancer in high school” angle, I think.

I’m leave that to my mother. Sadly, I have a very low tolerance for spices, and almost always have foods that normally would be spicy de-spiced.

You can get some pretty good Chinese food in London, though, but not on a par with SF.
We just don’t have a big enough Indian community and a big enough non-Indian Indian-food-eating-population in the States to have the same kind of quality. Yet. I think that may change in the next little bit. There are far more Indian restaurants now in the area I live in then when I was a kid, and some of them are very good.

re: #244 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)
Of course, for a real classic Doctor, you need to watch Pirate Planet, with Tom Baker as the Doctor and written by Douglas Adams.
“Excuse me? Have you seen Calufrax? It’s a sort of planet, about 14,000 kilometres across, oblate sphere…”
Ah, Tom Baker. I was in junior high.
You never forget your first doctor, even if you could see the visible seams on the aliens’ hands, and “special effects” means a little bit of special lighting and a few minor chords on the synthesizer.

Creepier rather than scary.
Every Halloween I wish I had a weeping angel for my front porch.
As for scary, whenever the Ood turn bad.

I’m sorry, I’m sorry.
Fine. I’ll tell you.
Ludwig is really Tom Riddle. You have to use the middle name, see, and then it all works out.
I can’t tell which posts are the horcruxes, though…
If you find one, why don’t you try stabbing your monitor with a basilisk fang. Go ahead, we’ll wait right here until you do.

I think they do more than one. I watched one Christmas special when W was there, and it showed the one big tree, and several others, including a personal tree for the First family. I don’t know how many gazillion ornaments they have there.
Also showed the behind the scenes of all the food being made. Mind blowing.

And, I do think we give them some power, or influence with the attention we pay to them. And they love it. I’m stopping now.
Stalkerz suck.
Oh yeah I hear that. Been thinking about saying something but this is all in good fun. I’m in no mood to be serious about them. The whole thing has gotten to be a joke and it’s also very distracting.

They definitely have several trees in various locations through the White House.

You can’t buy a tardis Christmas ornament.
I’m trying to figure out when I searched on tardis Christmas Ornament in amazon, it brought up the “major award” from Christmas Story.

Actually it was six lizards, including yours truly.
If you clowns attempt to get Chen Fire, we will out San Francisco Zionist, Killgore Trout, Alouette, Reginald Perrin, Fozziebear and Shiplord Kriel in retaliation. We will also compile a list of all the people we have outed in the past along with addresses.

They had some out of clay. I have some oven bake clay.
I really am a terminal geek.
(However, if my sister finds out, she’ll steal them. She’s still fuming that her Doctor Who wii game order was canceled because you have to live in the UK to get it.

Our father, of course, is worse than either of us. He has some book of LOTR art from the 70’s from calendars that he cherishes.

I lived in the UK and have had curry there. As long as you’re prepared to spend awhile making the spice mixture, you can make stuff as good at home.

Actually, the spice mixture is the (relatively) easy bit. When it comes to making UK Indian restaurant style curry, it’s all about the stock and the onion base - that’s where the difficulty, and time spent come into it.
285 | Obdicut Sat, Dec 4, 2010 11:20:07am |
re: #284 Jimmah
Okay. I make stock all the time so I’m just used to having it around.
My curry rules. It’s better than most of what I had out in restaurants in the UK.
Most restaurant food can be replicated at home without a huge amount of trouble. The only exceptions are the things that need specialized equipment.

re: #285 Obdicut
Okay. I make stock all the time so I’m just used to having it around.
It’s not just any old stock though (we make stock every week) - and the onion base takes 24 hours to cook properly. I’ve been researching this topic for a while and it’s clear that achieving the standard of a good Indian restaurant in the home is no mean feat.
Ice and I will be having a go at it shortly though. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
