Christmas Shopping Reminder of the Day

Lifestyle • Views: 16,259

Here’s the daily post in which I hector you once more not to miss the awesome last minute holiday bargains at Amazon’s Top Holiday Deals page, and the kids’ paradise known as the Holiday Toy List.

(Note: we get a small commission from Amazon’s Associates program for everything you buy, if you follow one of our links.)

UPDATE at 12/21/10 11:59:09 am:

And here’s some interesting Amazon-related news, as sources report that Amazon will sell an amazing 8 million KindlesExternal Image in 2010.

Amazon will sell over 8 million Kindles this year, exceeding expectations, Bloomberg reports citing sources familiar with the company.

Considering it is fighting a crowded market with iPads, Nooks, and numerous other ereaders, we’d say this is pretty good.

Apple will probably sell around 12 million iPads this year

I have so much shopping left to do.

Luckily, I don’t exchange presents with family until the 31st.

I checked out the Nook. For just reading (which is all I use my Kindle for), the lowest-priced Nook is sufficient. But honestly, after handling the Nook and my Kindle, I think the Kindle is sturdier and a better product - the ONLY thing the Nook has that I might want in my Kindle is replaceable batteries.

Orthodox Christmas, or can’t get together with them until then?

Yeah, we’re all gathering in DC for New Years. Actually, one brother can’t make it, but a legendary amount of friends will be there, including Sweet Mike, who likes getting drunk, hiring pedcabs, and then falling asleep.

And what’s wrong with that? Sounds perfectly satisfying to me.

Nothing’s wrong with that. He’s a hell of a guy. He’s also a Shakespearean actor.

I’m wondering what the effect the “wireless” rules of the net neutrality decisions will have on things like Kindle and Nook.

I followed the LGF link to Amazon last night and bought a kindle for my wife. I hope it gets here in time. And I hope LGF really got some $$ out of it.

Cool. You have all the best friends. My friends are just graying, long haired nerds.

Thank you! I see on the report page that someone did buy a Kindle - guess that was you.

A proper answer is “sometimes”. A practical answer is “yes.”

The newer Kindles use Sprint 3G and have 802.11bg capability. You can get them without the cell capability.

The Nook is AT&T 3G and also has 802.11bg capability.

iPads are 802.11abgn capable and the higher priced versions are 3G (don’t know the carrier offhand).

shit’s all so confusing

I don’t even own a cell phone! I’m probably going to be the least hit out of all this new legislation, if I had a nice cell phone, it’d be the occasional text (like one a week) and then i’d just play bookworm on it at the DMV

Oh, they give you reports? Hmm, well, you should see an order for four small, white, um, items of apparel. That’s my Christmas present(s) for me.

hey, we can all use a little extra support this time of year…

Having worked in retail for many, many years, I hope you sell everything in the shop in the next couple of days! And spend January customizing it to fit the clients needs!

Quick question. Is the LGF bonus carried over from amazon.com to the European Amazon sites? Or is it only for the .com site?

24 Pythagoras  Tue, Dec 21, 2010 7:16:54pm

The Celestron Skymaster 15x70 binoculars are the best buy in the universe. They look AND WORK like they cost $$ hundreds but are only $61. You shoulda seen the lunar eclipse through them! Also, on a good evening you can actually see the SHAPE of the international space station. That makes my hair stand on end.

I’d include a link but I couldn’t post one that retains the LGF commission.

Charles?
