Nice! After we talked yesterday I was inspired to go through the list of stocked lakes near me. I found one 30 minutes away which is pretty good. It's right off the freeway which is a bit of a drag but it should be a reliable fishing spot for trout.
Salmon and steelhead fishing is a lot of fun our here but it's really rare for me to catch something.

As I read the new FCC net- neutrality rule, it seems that ISPs will not be able to apply bandwidth usage caps on subscriber accounts.
My ISP has 'tiers' at different price points... you pick your speed/price and jump in. They do have a bandwidth cap on each speed tier, but it's pretty high... think i get 200GB/mo. no one's ever said anything to me and i used to dl the heck out of movies... got over 500 stored in a pretty short time...

Anyway, my brother, upon hearing where we're moving, gave me one of his new shore-casting rods (he'd bought a couple of them)...of course that means he'll get to come down and stay with us now. Specter didn't limit his criticism to the legislative bodies - he went after the Supreme Court justices as well in his speech, specifically in relation to the "Citizens United" decision - this part was largely ignored by media, unfortunately.

In his final speech on the Senate floor, Specter, the former GOP chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, chastised Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito for "eroding the constitutional mandate of separation of powers."
Specter specifically took issue with the court's controversial 5-4 decision early this year, in which it relaxed federally-imposed campaign finance regulations for corporations and unions.
"Ignoring a massive congressional record and reversing recent decisions, Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito repudiated their confirmation testimony given under oath and provided the key votes to permit corporations and unions to secretly pay for political advertising - thus effectively undermining the basic Democratic principle of the power of one person, one vote," said Specter. Chief Justice Roberts promised to just call balls and strikes and then he moved the bases."

The legislative body of each state will divide up that state as needed. Here in California we now have a commission set up that supposedly is to make things more equal and less gerrymandered.

Remember, DeLay was recently convicted of money laundering to finance these campaigns. One of the driving forces for his getting "his people" in office was to affect congressional districting maps - the redrawn maps that he got in 2002 (in a non-census year redrawing) swung Republican by an order of TWELVE congressional seats in just two years (from a 17-15 Democratic advantage in 2002 to a 21-11 Republican advantage in 2004).

Texas will gain four new House seats, and Florida will gain two. Gaining one each are Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, South Carolina, Utah and Washington.Ohio and New York will lose two House seats each. Losing one House seat are Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Most news stories are making that his is a GOP gain, which it likely is, but to me it portends something else - political parties will have to morph even more to take into account the regional population shifts.

Small fish. Basically anything under 10 inches. We have Osprey's, cormorants, Bald and Gold eagles, pelicans, storks and pretty much every other fish eating bird out here this time of year and if the fish are too small then they get eaten up by the birds in a heartbeat.
The pay lakes (those you don't need a license at) tend to stock with larger fish to avoid too much loss due to predation. The one I caught was probably just over a foot when stocked (it had a lot of tail growth).
The california DFG tends to put smaller fish (aka dinks) in the park lakes and it's a feeding frenzy for any type of fish eating bird.

I think Govt. like all large corporations can make some poor decisions because of the Independence of departments, and each department responsible for its own budgets. Often a department may be profitable, but adversley effect other departments.
This was true in Oz for one of our telcos, the 'copper lines' was seperate to the 'digital lines', they often worked in a way that had overall adverse effects on the company, yet each individually showed a profit.
This has been what I have observed in Australia.

Not to a great extent. I'm in a very urban area - so we're doing ok. Cars on my street were snowed in the first couple of days though.
We had 4 inches in one go - london can't cope with that, and until it melts theres nowhere to put the stuff that lands in the side streets, so, cars remain stuck and the elderly can't get out.
I'm fine though. Heatings been cranked up though.

There was no sign of flooding, and they were allowing traffic to drive along the road, but from one traffic light down to the gate, they were redirecting traffic with no other directions as to which side gates were open. Real pain in the ass.

i was born in '82.
The winter of '87 was epic, i remember that one very very well.
We used to have very severe winters a few decades ago - but the severity dropped off, mild winters cool summers. We hovered a long time in the middle of climates, and we suffer when we have extremes - the infrastructure can't cope. We don't have bad weather (aside from scotland) enough to have a scandinavian style infrastructure to deal with it. We just have to shut down for a few days.

Lexan roof, with end walls, and a gas heater are sorta the standard for my flower growing friends. Generally between the house & a wall. WAY not legal, but I know of at least 20 of them. I don't have a heater, because I don't get really cold here. Let me know if you want heater info.

Heh. That reminds me that earlier this semester we were studying in Intellectual Property what is and is not copyrightable. At least 4 different people started conversations with me about how they were thinking about comedy routines and if they could be copyrighted, and how did that work within the comedy field. Turns out NPR had a whole segment on it. I think NPR makes your friends think they are your really smart friend.

I would need more time to articulate my ideas better. I should not have injected myself into it. The analogies (I think a lot in analogies) in my head may not apply.
I will admit that some of my reaction to this conversation is based on a sense/feeling that the Holocaust was worse in some way than just a savage genocidal spree. But why is one mass killing worse than another?

So was Pam being too kind to the Nazis? Or was it a poor description?
I wouldn't worry too much about it..... killing is killing....... there are some here that love to debate minutia so much they expect everyone to gasp at their next "profound" counter post. Next you'll see an argument over the length of wind farm blades..... oh wait... that happened.

I have often thought that Democrats only know how to act when they have lost. They don't handle winning all that well. They seem to work best as underdogs.
