Christmas Eve. Music playing. Smells of good food.

We have visitors for the holidays—two kids from my older daughters’ orphanage, and the single mom who adopted them when they were 7 and 8 years old. I met those two when I was in Kazakhstan and knew they needed a family, so I recruited one for them. They were great kids and still are, even though they are American teen-agers now.

The two of them and my three kids are all in the kitchen now, making boiled Chinese dumplings and (no kidding) discussing skin color and race. Way to go, Kazakh teens. You will rock the world!

Tomorrow another family with a girl from their orphanage is coming up from Oakland to have Christmas dinner with us. Between our three families we have children from Russia, China, and Kazakhstan. We will have a great American Christmas with French food and Italian desert and English crackers. We were born and have lived all over the world and are all at home here.

In spite of its moments of insanity, I do love America.
Merry Christmas to Lizards one and all.

Oh hurl.

Speaking of hurling, Le Monde give Julian Assange “Man of the Year” and read this bullshit reasoning…

“… one discovers a and exceptionally gifted, ultra powerful professional…”

Is this what Le Monde considers exceptionally gifted, an immature ego-maniac who whines like a stuffed pig as soon as his privacy is breeched.

Give me a fucking break. (read it all)…

I only start reading Le Monde a few months before I am planning a trip to France, it helps me get a feel of what’s on the mind of the population there, helps give me a sense of the mood of the country on certain issues. Otherwise, it’s just to far left for my tastes.

Most potato salads do not have olives. But if you want to have them by all means add them. Kalamata sounds good.

Bristol Palin Pays $172,000 Cash For Foreclosed Tract House In Arizona

Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like the exciting news that 20-year-old Bristol Palin — known for getting pregnant as a teenager and not knowing how to dance at all — has bought a house! Hooray, Bristol! Times are tough for everyone, but somehow she scraped up $172,000 from under Sarah’s burrito wrappers on the couch and now Bristol is the proud (?) owner of some utterly random foreclosed tract house in some abandoned Arizona exurb. We cannot even begin to make sense of this.
