Sarah Palin Now Claims ‘Refudiate’ Was a ‘Typo’

Wingnuts • Views: 24,091

On Sarah Palin’s Reality last night, the half-governor claimed that her now-infamous use of the non-word “refudiate” was a typo.

While in the car, Sarah also talked to Todd about the time she tweeted the word “refudiate.” “I pressed an F instead of a P and people freaked out,” said Sarah, pointing out that her blunder was the second-most-searched word on Google trends. “Make lemonade out of lemons,” said Sarah.

Well, F is pretty far from P on my keyboard, and Palin seems to have forgotten that this wasn’t a fluke; she used the word “refudiate” previously in a July appearance on the Sean Hannity show, and she wasn’t typing at the time:

If you listen to that whole video, it's a pretty mind-boggling example of Palin's patented word salad approach.

4 KronoGhazi  Mon, Dec 27, 2010 3:00:37pm

She's clearly now a liar. She's trying to make lemonade out of rotten putrefied tomatoes.

5 Charles Johnson  Mon, Dec 27, 2010 3:00:50pm

And notice that the whole show is promoting the typical "reverse racism" persecution crap so beloved by Fox News.

I hope the GOP refudiates her in 2012.

re: #6 Dark_Falcon

She might generate a lot of buzz and baloney in '12, but I doubt she'll get the nomination. If she does throw her hat in the ring, I bet she'll quit part way through the running, with a garbled speech about why she's quitting.

"F" and "P" are on opposite sides of the keyboard, they aren't even typed with the same hand on a regular keyboard.

10 PhillyPretzel  Mon, Dec 27, 2010 3:05:27pm

She is doing this to get attention. Her name is not in the news so she has to say something to get into the news again.

I like that excuse. Too bad that it doesn't hold up. This shows me that she has the excuse-making skills of an 11-year-old, so she's more mature than I originally thought. I had her pegged at 10.

15 researchok  Mon, Dec 27, 2010 3:10:32pm

The clarification took a while.

The word 'typo' needed to be properly vetted.

Thus refuting the claim that the use of "refudiate" was a typo, and that she meant to write "repudiate".

This very much reminds me of an incident from a long-ago campaign, in which a gushy article in U.S. News and World Report, or some similar "reputable" magazine, showed Gary Hart and his wife playing chess. There they are, playing chess. A few pieces are out but the game has evidently not progressed far; some of the pawns are still on the first rank! There were other howling chess blunders apparent in the setup; too much time has elapsed for me to reconstruct the layout exactly, but think bishops of the same color, rooks not on their starting squares, that sort of nonsense.

No chess player could possibly have permitted himself/herself to be photographed in association with such an ignorant caricature of chess.

People who fake skills they don't have are a pain, and one such form of fakery is the use/gross-misuse of refined vocabulary. Iffen ya ain't got it, don't try to flaunt it.

It might well have mattered a great deal, even if he still would have lost. Had he chosen Liberman, its possible that he would have aroused such fury on the right as to ensure the success of J.D Hayworth's primary challenge. Or Palin remaining unknown might have meant that the Tea Party would never have gained the strength it actually gained without her star power.

re: #18 freetoken

Speaking of racism, the more I read of how some part-time anthro-bloggers (and even full time ones) are handling recent discoveries in genetics the more I am convinced that genetic racism is making inroads into the meme-pool.

What is "genetic racism"? What else could "race" be, but a verbal shorthand for the loose concept of the gene pool of a population that has been historically somewhat reproductively isolated etc?

Every such population is in some way genetically different from the average averaged over the entirety of humanity. And in every case, there are also differences in phenotype: different immune systems, different average height, weight, ratio of standing height to sitting height, and on and on.

Anyone who accepts evolution ought to expect that these differences in the frequency with which certain genes, and genetically determined traits, appear in one historically somewhat reproductively isolated population or another, [one race or another] will often have conferred an adaptive advantage in that population's environment.

Noses are an obvious example. We know the physics of noses. And lo, noses that, going by physics, ought to be an adaptation to arid, cold environments, are found more often on "races" that historically lived in arid, cold environments. And for humid, warm environments, it's the other way around.

And we also know that when it comes to "race", group averages are merely averages, and group membership can be a slippery concept. Still, given cheek swabs from a dozen members of two randomly chosen villages on widely separated continents, villages where there has been little reproduction with persons from transcontinental distances, and maps locating each village, a team of geneticists could probably guess which village submitted which batch of cheek swabs.

Humanity, like any other species, evolves and adapts. The main part of our environment is the same anywhere: we are tool users and social creatures. But after that, there are details that differ from place to place, and we have evolved differences in our own details.

He felt he had to pander; He wanted to nominate Joe Lieberman but was informed the James Dobson would lead a full-fledged base revolt if he did that. Faced with a base that would not except anyone not one of their own, john McCain gave them what they wanted.

True. And the country rejected it.

And the GOP, at least on the national level, feels they need to pander to such atavists because said atavists are bound and determined to convince the GOP that they have them by the short hairs.

And for the most part, they do. Which is why I won't likely vote republican on the national level any time in the near future. On the state level, I likely will. On the local level, not so much.

What is "genetic racism"?

In contrast to cultural racism, that is, racism based on culture, and example of which is Culture A is superior to Culture B. Pat Buchanan is a classic example.

By "genetic racism" I meant racism based on superiority of genetic content, and example of which is that Africans can't compete on IQ tests because they are inherently (genetically) unable to process quantitative or verbal thinking as well as caucasians.

I really should come up with a better short-hand phrase to describe these.

Bush did a much better job of shrugging off his horrible speach mistakes.

That's because George W. Bush handles his malapropisms with humor and a smile, while Sarah Palin gets prickly and defensive about them. The first approach radiates self-confidence, the latter radiates insecurity.

re: #58 Kid A

You don't think it won't be entertaining to watch Palin get her ass kicked by Obama by at least fifteen points? I don't find her interesting or entertaining any more than you do. I find the way she is setting herself and the GOP up for total humiliation (think 400+ electoral votes for Obama) to be wildly entertaining. Granted, anything can happen in two years, but as far as I'm concerned, get your popcorn ready and enjoy the fun!

First of all, it would be a bit scary to me to be so wrong. I don't find it even remotely likely that Palin can be nominated.

Second, it would be a bit scary after the R convention. If she can win the nomination, then I just misunderstood everything. So what's to stop her from just plain winning the general election? It's not like I know anything about politics that says otherwise.

Third, it wouldn't be any fun. It's not healthy to have a single-party nation. Blowout victories are the father of governance that utterly dismisses all naysaying or expressions of misgiving , even from within the ranks of one's own party.

We are better governed when those running the show think that they have something to prove and know that they could lose if they screw up royally.

Exactly. Bush doesn't take himself too seriously and has a good sense of humor. That let him stay sane even while under intense political attacks. Sarah Palin, by contrast, feels the need to answer each and every one of those attacks. The pressure that trait would put her under in a presidential campaign would drive her insane.

Full Disclosure: My own personality is far closer to Sarah Palin when it comes to attacks than to that of George W. Bush. That's a character flaw, and I do work on it, though not always with success.

Preemptively. Yes.

On a side note... here is a weather update from one of our local weather geeks... who is usually more accurate than the local weather guru's...

For the foothills, upper low will track into southwest CO Thursday morning and across southern CO during the day into northwest KS by Friday morning. Surface low will set up in southeast CO and bring fairly deep and moist upclope flow across most of eastern CO on Thursday into Friday morning. Currently looks like snow will begin Thursday from late morning to early afternoon, and become heavy at times Thursday evening and night, and then diminish Friday morning. At this time I would expect 2-4 inches in less favored areas (banana belt and Plains) and 4-8 inches in more favored areas, with up to 12 inches in very favored areas. Heaviest snow currently looks to be from 4 pm Thursday through 6 am Friday.

This system is still emerging so models could create a slightly different track the next few days. The system is on the verge of becoming a major winter storm for eastern CO. If the track of the upper low moves just a bit farther south, then snow totals will increase. If the track moves north, less snow. Hopefully this system hangs together and provides our first significant snowfall of the season, and some much needed moisture. Models now do not bring the arctic air in after the system on Saturday, so now just looks seasonably cold on Saturday and Sunday. Some additional mountain snow possible on Sunday.

If necessary... run around wringing hands, screaming, setting in supplies... repeat as needed.

Until such time as the GOP can get its head straight on the realities of the physics of CO2, and while there remains some hope that the Democrats will take some sort of meaningful steps toward facing that fact, I've got to hold my nose on the rest of it and pull some D levers up ticket.

If Palin is on the ticket, then it's not even a difficult decision. She wouldn't offer anything on the rest of the national agenda but an initial spate of confident blundering, followed by 3.6 years of stunned paralysis.

question is thus:

are there more of you, or more like them? them being the sort of angry whitey dullard tribalists who want someone who walks and talks like them as their leader.

There's a LOT of them out there! And they hate Obama's guts, and they want to win.

More like the realistic type- we're the silent majority of the GOP, I believe.

O' but if only the passage in question had not been lost in the near endless tome of that singular tweet! For shame that no hero could step forth and honor the world by spell checking and proof reading this wonderful pearl bequeathed to a beleaguered, befuddled public --- bestowed unto us by Mamma Grizzly. A tired nation, wandering aimlessly as The Scribe sits at her desk contemplating the intricacies of the First Amendment, Muslim's desire to worship along all other religions in our free country, and weighing all of that against the confused anger of the masses (in 140 characters or less). Her task complete, slumping over....mustering only the energy to hit the "post" button, but never to proof read or spell check.

Hey Lawhawk.
Well, it was weird on the Cape here. It usually is. We were the only ones in NE to get mostly rain. Yesterday morning we got about 2 inches, then it rained until this morning. It changed to snow about 9am, so we have a quarter inch of snow on top of an inch of Ice.
We also had 70-80 mph wind gusts, and wicked sustained winds. Lots of tree and limb damage. Still blowing hard.
I would rather have gotten buried in snow. Less dangerous.

And this?

Charles Johnson posted the following video as proof that “racism” is the founding principle of the Tea Party movement. What I would like to know is, where specifically is the racism in this video? I don’t see any racism I see people having a conversation about history. I’d have to say that Charles is making a stretch to say the least. Sad to see a once great blog turn into a mono propaganda machine.

Actually, we get Nor'Easters here pretty regularly. Those come with fierce winds. Winds that dislodge roofing material, ground fishing boats onshore and uproot/ snap trees at least twice a year.
This was a nasty one, but, you really get used to it here.

Then here's a song to of praise to a better (adopted) son of Illinois than "Street Pundit":

Here are some alternate lyrics from 1860--the music is "Rosin the Bow". Perhaps my group can learn them before the Jeff Davis re-enactment.

FREEMEN, RALLY!
Awake from your slumbers, Brave Heroes!
And hark to the bugle's deep tones,
That calls you to fight for your country!
Swear vengeance by Patriots' Sons!

Chorus:
For we'll be united for ever
Come, join in the chorus so true;
Our 84 Star-spangled Banner!
Our glorious Red, White and Blue!

Jeff Davis we'll serve as was Arnold,
He'll meet with a vile traitor's doom;
The Union men never will let him
Sweep clean with his secession broom.

Chorus.

To others we will pay attention,
And look to their welfare and rocks;
Buy a rope for Secessor Vice Stephens,
And pay in Confederate Stocks.

Chorus.

Gen. Johnson we know is a traitor;
To call him so, seems very hard:
We'll stigmatise him with the honor,
Hang him next to his friend Beauregard.

Chorus.

We'll soon hear of a dissolution
Of the firm of Jeff Davis and Co.
Their Confederate Bonds they will pack up,
And up the Salt-River they'll go.

Chorus

If we march down, we will take them,
And don't care for even John Bull:
For he knows that this is brave Scott-Land;
The South knows that we have some Wool.

Chorus.

Then let us Hurrah for the Union,
Determined we never will swerve;
For, By the Eternal! Our Union
It must, and it shall be preserved.

Not to mention a serial troll/possible Stalker....

A real Objectivist would hate Rush Limbaugh like Ayn Rand hated Ronald Reagan and William F. Buckley.

Or probably more.

The band, Rush, is popular with Objectivists, however.

Lol.

Reading through "Street Pundit's" blog, I believe from his talk of Parental Alienation, that he posts on the Stalker Blog under the nic of "Mars". So we just had a Stalker Troll sockpuppet.

I just learned it today, myself.

No one exemplifies that streak more than Ron Paul—unless you count his son Rand. When Rand Paul strolled onstage in May 2010, the newly declared Republican nominee for Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seat, he entered to the strains of Rush, the boomer rock band famous for its allegiance to libertarianism and Ayn Rand. It was a dog whistle—a wink to free-marketers and classic-rock fans savvy enough to get the reference, but likely to sail over the heads of most Republicans. Paul’s campaign was full of such goodies.

re: #374 wrenchwench

Thanks. That is interesting.

I'll wager Rush is anti-libertarian when it comes to music file-sharing. (Not that the LP supports picking off IP for free)

Just speculation on my part though.

Whenever I hear Palin speak I'm reminded of how, by voting for McCain, I also voted for her. I keep wishing there were some way to refudiate that vote.

Ms Palin: "Hello, may I speak to Senator Lieberman?"

Lieberman's Office: "He's not here, it's Yom Kippur."

Ms Palin: "Hello Yom ... may I leave a message for the senator?"
