Feds Investigate Christine O’Donnell’s Campaign Finances

Politics • Views: 25,525

We noted in September that the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington was planning to ask authorities to investigate Tea Party non-witch Christine O’Donnell’s alleged use of campaign money to pay personal expenses.

Today the other shoe dropped; the Associated Press reports that a criminal investigation has been launched.

It's wrong to lie to Hitler, but apparently it's OK to lie on your resume or about your finances.

See, everybody, she's not a witch. She's just a criminal misappropriator of funds.

A real witch could have conjured up way more than $7.3 million.

Repost from previous thread:

Given her past problems with money, I'd wager she's in a lot of trouble. I'd also bet that the Tea Party will call any formal investigation or indictment of her "persecution". They'll scream about how the "Totalitarian Progressive Obama" is out to "silence" her. they'll then deflect any criticism of their interpretation by once more pointing to the New Black Panther incident in Philadelphia.

The Stupid! It Burns!

11 FreedomMoon  Wed, Dec 29, 2010 11:42:52am

I don't like to resort to personal attacks, but she really struck me as being totally incompetent, flat out dumb. I'd go so far as to say that she saw no wrong doing in spending her campaign contributions, and ignorantly gave into whims. She probably had some severely flawed method of justification; it'll be interesting to see what in fact she bought.

The writing was always on the wall that one day Christine O'Donnell would some day come under Federal investigation. What does this say about the GOP who were perfectly willing to back such a candidate all the way to the Senate? Had she won they would have had a freshman Senator already under investigation.

19 moderatelyradicalliberal  Wed, Dec 29, 2010 11:46:59am

I remember hearing about her misusing funds during the campaign. This is one of those "shiny object" moments. People were so busy focusing on her weird statements, that the accusations of her being a grifter were ignored.

I can't wait until all of the stories about the grifters who actually won their elections start coming out. They stayed under the radar because we were too busy focusing on nutcase Senate candidates. The political environment and the whole TP movement has no doubt allowed for many crooks to make it into Congress. That happens a lot with wave elections. People who never should have made it into office get swept in.

Fun times!

I read somewhere that some of the candidates recruited by Tea Parties felt fleeced by the invoices (for campaign services) from the consulting firms that recruited them. It will be VERY interesting to see what she bought, and from whom.

29 Kragar  Wed, Dec 29, 2010 11:53:32am

Christine O'Donnell had nearly $1 million left

This is not the first time O’Donnell’s campaign finance practices have come under fire. Her 2008 Senate campaign manager, Kristin Murray, blasted O’Donnell in a robocall just days before this year’s primary — accusing her of using campaign donations for “rent and personal expenses, while leaving her workers unpaid and piling up thousands in debt.”

O’Donnell also ended her 2008 campaign — her second of three bids for Delaware Senate so far — about $23,000 in debt. According to the campaign finance report from her 2010 race, O’Donnell’s campaign only currently carries about $2,700 in debt.

30 dmon  Wed, Dec 29, 2010 11:53:39am

The feds are looking into whether O'Donnell's spent $20,000 dollars in campaign money on personal expenses and rent, MSNBC reported. The probe stems from a complaint by the group Citizens For Responsibility And Ethics In Washington (CREW) which was filed back in September.

Late Update: The AP reports that the complaint is based largely on a sworn statement by David Keegan, who was a campaign finance consultant for O'Donnell.

Well, you know, the culture of victimization was bad when practiced by people who weren't actually victimized, like women who were the wrong kind of feminist, and ethnic and sexual minorities.

When it's practiced by cranky wingnut politicians who didn't get their way, it's entirely valid.

I think people who support/ed O'Donnell, by and large, are motivated by pure partisanship, and often a real hatred for both the bogey-man liberals and the evil RINOs. She wasn't a rational or defensible candidate.*

When you're in a frame of mind like that, you have no way to be angry at, or even critical of, O'Donnell for misusing campaign money. If you admit she did something wrong, the whole house of cards starts falling. So your mind rejects it, and immediately fills up the gap. Democrats have also been found guilty of financial malfeasance, so it doesn't matter. It's just revenge, so it doesn't matter. They're all out to get her/me. This is proof. The other guy is worse.

* I'm sure some sane Republicans voted for her, but I'm also sure they did it muttering, "Oh my God, she's nuts."

Her loyal following will never except that she is crook. Even if she confessed, they would claim President Obama threatened her or some crap. She'll be raising money for her defense fund in a day and the dummies will give her the money.

Oh that won't be hard. We'll just make them watch the Bravo channel 24/7 for a month. They will be gay in no time.

Her 'loyal following' have never been the sharpest knives in the drawer.

If it's true, I do too. But, also hate the idea of these fools having another martyr. Sarah is losing her shine, so they need a replacement.

Sarah doesn't fit the martyr image though. She fits the image of Innocence Abused much better.

Has Mama Grizzly Tweeted about this yet? Or does this issue strike a little too close to home?

Mama Grizzly hasn't even commented on her hand picked fail Joe Miller yet.

She picks the easy fights, not the hard ones.

If Christine O'Donnell goes to jail, then masturbation is saved in all free world....

Appearently, her staff told reporters that an abuse of the FBI (shorthand for investigation) is to be expected since Joe Biden is Deleware's former senator turned VP of the most super-liberal administration ever. The fix must be in!!!

I guess even tea baggers can be filled with moldy Earl Grey

Yesterday, I saw a reporter on CNN trying to get Christine O'Donnell to answer a simple question. I was bothered by how open and clear was her contempt for the media. She made it perfectly clear that one of the last things she could possibly be interested in was answering any questions from the media. This reminds me of Sharron Angle's response to a reporter that she'll talk to the press after she's elected. Now it's true that Democrats are just as bad when it comes to answering direct questions. I remember a few months ago, CNN investigated members of the Congressional Black Caucus who gave scholarship funds to their friends, relatives and cronies, and the Democratic Congresspeople were happy to dodge the questions. So both Democrats and Republicans do this, but recently, with Palin / Angle / O'Donnell, the Republicans are showing a very simple, clear, and open contempt for the very idea of questions from journalists. Thomas Jefferson was onto something when he commented about how important a free press really is.
