Giuliani Gearing Up for 2012?

Politics • Views: 40,450

Apparently he’s not going to let the total failure of his 2008 candidacy deter him: Rudy Giuliani gearing up for DC run.

Giuliani’s failure in 2008 wasn’t just due to strategic blunders; he played on his 9/11 experiences so much that for many people (myself included) he crossed the line into exploitation. That’s the image he’ll have to shake if he wants to have a chance at the presidency.

And he has some other huge problems, given the GOP’s current state of insanity — he’s pro-choice, not a creationist, and doesn’t deny the existence of human-caused global warming, and that’s a package of Tea Party deal breakers if I’ve ever seen one.

He's pro-choice.

The base will squish him like a bug, end of story.

I do not think that Giuliani would have been a viable primary candidate without 9/11, and if he couldn't get the primary last time, he can't get it now.

He's a multiply-divorced Italian Catholic from the big city. He's not workable right now.

Rudy tried to run as a strong national security candidate. Since then the Republicans have turned their back on national security as an issue. They rants against the DHS, TSA, patriot act, and even common sense airport security screenings. Fox news now promotes 9-11 Truth conspiracy theories. Rudy hasn't got a chance in hell.

Huh... you know I've been meaning to ask, there's a lot/at least some of derision /dislike of both Kos and Huffpo on this blog (I don't want to talk about if it is deserved or not) what is LGF's feelings on Balloon Juice?

Remember his "I will appoint strict constitional judges only?" stichick? This from a (then) pro-gay rights, pro-choice, former mayor of millions of Liberials?

Fat chance, Rudy. Stay retired and leave us alone.

I used to post there when John Cole was making his epic switch to sanity and still read it from time to time. I just prefer the LGF experience better, primarrly due to Charles's heroic efforts in coding and oversight.

Maybe, but I really don't know if it can be brought back and turned into a national campaign issue.

Bearing in mind that I'm speaking off of experiences from two years ago, Guiliani is one of those cases where if he did get the nomination, I might have voted for him. I'm honestly curious in which exact manner the new Party will throw him under the bus.

Culturally speaking, Giuliani is the un-Palin.

He's screwed. I don't think they'll bring in an actual Palin for this one, but I do think the Republican nominee is going to need to be able to play an honest all-American ruralite a tad better.

Huckabee has a far better chance, IMHO.

They don't have any of those, but plenty who play one on TV. I think the wingularity (scroll to Wingularity, The) would actually occur if Palin, Bachmann, Rudy, Gingrich, Romney, and Huckabee were all on the same stage for a debate at the same time.

Says Giuliani as of 2006: "Darwin’s theories are a very accepted part of science ... I am a Christian, and I can accommodate that to my beliefs."

He also seems to believe in AGW: "There is global warming. Human beings are contributing to it. I think the best answer to it is energy independence."

Bye-bye nomination.

Do I remember that you're a former Californian, now a New Yorker? 4.1 in these parts is HUUUUGGE, we've got a different kind of bedrock that transmits much more efficiently.

Are you aware there's a fault-line running under 125th St? Pre-war buildings are unreinforced masonry; a 4.1 here would be devastating.

You really think Kucinich and Gravel thought they could outdo Hillary or Pres. Obama or even Biden?

You really think Gilmore or Brownback thought they could compete against McCain or Romney?

What these people want is two things, imho

A) exposure, which helps their future tries for any office, especially financially
B) a seat at the table,, a voice ,,

I was one that thought the Baggers were only about the fiscal stuff until as the election got closer and closer, they couldn't keep the social stuff inside themselves any longer, and opened the door wide open for all to see. I -mistakenly - thought a lot of the racial/gay animus was isolated to a few of the kooks.

But as I listened and watched more and more, the hypocrisy was striking since no one was doing any of the protests, and rallies, etc. when Bush was president. I then knew it was about Obama all along. I tried to deny it, but there's no other real explanation. Yeah I don't see any Republican front runner who is sane either. I agree wqith about Rudy and 9-11. And I would also add that his focus on national security isn't going to help him with Republican primary voters who are mainly angry at the Obama administration's economic and social policies. I knew they were full of crap because honestly these were some of the biggest social conservative candidates I've seen in my years following politics. I recited this andecote earlier today but a friend of mine asked a Tea Party candidate how he could claim to be a supporter of individual rights and stuff while supporting our state's effort to ban gay marriage. Here's some good 'ol fashion' Obama bashin' courtesy of Hot Air. This is in response to the woman in Alaska who can see Russia from her front porch on Laura Ingraham's radio show today where she basically said that Obama hates the country and might as well be the devil himself.

1.) Obama hates this country, and it’s high time that conservatives start beating him over the head about it.

BuckeyeSam

2.) And by the way … Obama has two plans … “A” and “B” …

PLAN A is to transform America into the Socialist paradise he believes in – a nation ruled by men instead of laws.

failing that …

PLAN B is to weaken America to the point that his buddies, Bill Ayers et al, can make the transformation themselves in the streets.

Either plan calls for a WEAKENED AMERICA – since a strong America under the status quo – does not transform the nation – but maintain the capitalist status quo.

HondaV65

3.) Top Down, Bottom Up, Inside Out.

Plus, Soro’s is egging Obama on the path of economic destruction.

Kini

4.) Obama’s father hated this Country. It drove him back to Kenya. Little Barry blames America for his father leaving their family and is enjoying bringing us to our knees as revenge.

portlandon

5.) YES, Obama hates America. He hates everything that has made America great. This is a dipsh!t who says our Constitution is “fundamentally flawed” and America must have “fundamental change.”

In Texas you used to see a lot of bumper stickers that said “America, Love It Or Leave It” It’s time for Obama to GO!

The stupid, it hurts. :) Seriously, they can question his policies all they want but to actually question the president's love of hte country is simply pathetic and they know it.

What is so fucked up is these people, due to the Limbaugh and Beckster believe this to be true.

I get so disgusted. No one really talks about Bush bashing anymore do they?

Agreed. I disagree with Obama about a lot of things. His lack of leadership on DADT; no end in sight for Afghanistan; his lack of "feel" in his management style the first two years. But my god, I don't HATE the man! You should go to some of these blogs (oh, and the left-leaning blogs don't get a pass either. Some of the stuff they wrote about Bush was mind-boggling) and read these vapid, vile comments. Sometimes I just want to point my finger at it, laugh, and move on. But honestly, I can't laugh at it anymore. I guess what a great country we live in where you can be as uneducated as possible, hate everything in sight, and call yourself a "Real American." Pass the barf bag, please.

I also dug some salsify from the garden today and I'll have roasted salsify with my fried fish. I'll make a page out it this weekend. The stalkers love my gardening posts.

They do, strange to say.

Everybody spits him out. He was one of the first quitters in last presidential race. Besides, he suffers from a severe case of Gilles de la 9/11.

I don't know if any of you read Nate Silver's 538 blog over at nytimes.com, but, as usual, Nate is right on the money about the G.

Basically the whole reason I signed up for twitter. For ME to become the news by reporting it!!! Now I love it for the fast info received.

I hope I am a little old lady when Stanley posts about the big one. re: #159 Stanley Sea

You know what I love? It seems like Sr. Sarah's reality show killed her chances. :)

You are right. Those 20% floater Independents did not like what they saw.

Bush had Andrew Card calling journalists up to tell them it was illegal to speak ill about the president.

Noun + Verb + 9/11 = Rudy Giuliani

Plus, the pro-choice stance automatically disqualifies him, especially with the current GOP base, who are dominated by the Tea Party.

Here's some good 'ol fashion' Obama bashin' courtesy of Hot Air. This is in response to the woman in Alaska who can see Russia from her front porch on Laura Ingraham's radio show today where she basically said that Obama hates the country and might as well be the devil himself.

5.) YES, Obama hates America. He hates everything that has made America great. This is a dipsh!t who says our Constitution is “fundamentally flawed” and America must have “fundamental change.”

WOW! But the Baggers are only about fiscal responsibility and getting rid of all the debt, right? FAIL.

If it wasn't fundamentally flawed... why did the big Official Reading need to leave out all the parts that were so awful they needed to later be removed or altered?

re: #15 albusteve

as usual, you all have it wrong...aside from voters in the densely populated east, he has no base to mollify, he will create his own...he is an extremely jovial and likable guy who has a reputation for as tough, get it done sort, that will take no shit from anybody and folks will thrive on his patriotism...he understands the economy and where to cut out the redundant fat...he is no rookie when it comes to the cameras and idiot pundits and will express supreme confidence on the circuit...people love his knack for a clever ripost and his easy smile...once he ramps up his "cocktail party" personna, folks will fall for him like a favorite neighbor...pro choice will be a reference to the Mets or Yankees and bad hair will be popular again...don't count Rudi out, the guy is super charged

You're dead wrong. Where was any of this super Rudy back in 2008? If he didn't show up then, why now? No reason to think things will be any different if he runs now; he's just four years less relevant.

As for being pro-choice, it's a dealbreaker in the gop. And the base thought McCain was too moderate. They'll self-combust over a pro-choicer.

Huh... you know I've been meaning to ask, there's a lot/at least some of derision /dislike of both Kos and Huffpo on this blog (I don't want to talk about if it is deserved or not) what is LGF's feelings on Balloon Juice?

I may well be the only person here whose managed to get banned by both Free Republic and Daily Kos. Free Republic gave me about 10 seconds before I made the mistake of saying something nice about Jimmy Carter. I made it about 7 years with Kos before I had to write a Goodbye Cruel Kos diary and have Meteor Blades deactivate my account permanently. I really find I just detest hyperbolic anti-semitic blowhardery on both sides. And really, Kos has gotten almost as bad as Free Republic in its hatred of the president, which probably means the man is doing his job.

he definitely had strategic blunders too. not aggressively campaigning until Florida.
