Yes I'm back... 13 hours in the air total... and Paris is still standing. Caught a nasty head cold though... hacked all the way home.
Just got up to take some cold medication. Hi to everyone, I be back sometime soon, got some really funny and warm cultural stories to tell.
By the way... can anyone direct me to the earth shattering expose' article that Reginal Perrin promised to post on Monday evening. I've tried to find it here, either in a thread or a LGF Page, couldn't find anything. Help? I would love to read it.

My immune system was hard at work last night, warding off a cold/flu that is going around, but I am exhausted from lack of sleep, could not close my eyes until 5am here, it is now quarter past nine.

re: #12 Reginald Perrin
Ain't no "yet" there, Reginald...this is Charles' place, PERIOD. If you think otherwise, I'm sure Charles has a news flash for you; everyone here other than Charles are guests, no more, no less.
And I'm tiring (and I'm sure others are too) of this running squabble between you, Steve, Walter, and whoever else. I'm taking no one's side, but nothing puts me off more than pointless squabbling and bickering. I don't care what the reasons are, but it's completely high school-type bullshit.

re: #16 talon_262
What is your problem?
Walter was asked to apologize to Charles
Walter doesn't think I should mention the fact that Charles is being stalked and taunted by the right wing loony sphere.
He took issue with it a couple weeks ago. I believe it was right after Charles called Walter a troll.
Does that refresh your selective memory?

re: #17 Reginald Perrin
Just my opinion, but I'd advise letting Charles handle his business...if there's somebody getting out of place, let him know about it (as I'm sure others would as well), but I'm sure he doesn't need you running interference for him. If he has a problem with Walter or anyone else, I'm sure he'll handle it in his own way.
As far as mentioning the stalkers, we're not stupid. I'm not saying don't mention them or their exploits, but you've been getting mighty obsessive about them lately. Frankly, you've been acting more like them than I'm comfortable with (just in reverse), but that's just my opinion.
If you have a problem with anything I said, then that's your right, but don't expect me to have any sympathy for you.

Charles is being figuratively raped for a second time by these scoundrels.
Eric Odom's nefarious underworld morphed into this mess we have today with the alternate reality being peddled by the right, and peddled quite successfully.
Mr Odom is the self proclaimed founder of the Tea party Movement.
He previously did dirty deeds for big oil.
Odom freeloaded on LGF, he used this blog as his base for Troll Central
The trolls attacked Progressive blogs.
Odom has erased most but not all of the evidence
Even if he did, it wouldn't matter.
Rick martinez of tampa florida bragged about it all over the blogoshere.

They attacked Charles for a single missing comment that was 8 years old, yet everything Reggie writes is invisible.
This scandal is just about ready to take off.
They can't make a peep because they took the oath of silence. That will be discussed at 9 pm edt

LOL, Pathetico is in the lying mode again:
If you read through his comments, you’ll see that the small-brained lizards all fell for Charles’s little truth-bending exercise. They all think I wrote the post; they all think it’s a real threat; and several of them are making the usual predictable noises about how they are going to call my office, etc. etc.
Of course we don't think you wrote the post, Pathetico. But it's your site and you bear full responsibility. Of course we don't think it's a "real threat". But a public servant should be fired for such rhetoric nevertheless. For a Deputy DA you're too dumb to get these nuances. Which is another reason why you shouldn't have your job. Unfortunately, it seems like your boss is corrupt, so it's not like it will happen.

One of Eric Odom's stalker trolls is a former assistant prosecutor in Wayne County, Michigan. Strange little man, had his insane obsession with Keith Olbermann.
He goes by the name Johnny Dollar. In the reality based universe he is Mark Koldys. He runs the last remaining origonal stalker blog owned by the odious Odom's, Fresh Vision Media.
That is the same company that ran Think Progress Watch, The Union Label, and others too numerous to mention.
Odom has deleted countless blogs to cover his tracks, but alas the wayback machine has found enough to validate my assertion,

re: #77 EdDantes
What the hell is an
Mr. Newton.
Do you have any explanation for reggies psychosis? You do not have to answer this of course. I'm just wondering WTF?
You know. Reggie hasn't like me from the first day he saw me on LGF. I don't even remember when that was. But whatever, I've been here over seven years.
Fine. No problem, there are no rules on LGF (that I am aware of) which requires a popularity test as part of the membership. And there are evidently other people who don't take kindly to me, my politics, my personality or my quirks. Once again fine... Que sera sera.
But for some reason(s), Reggie has woven a large scaled scenario around certain members on LGF, certain people off of other blogs and some grand Poobah named Eric Odom.
So Reggie likes to jump into threads, and "hall monitor." I've had him claim that certain people here (including myself) actually work for Eric Odom (on a payroll) and our commenting on this blog is designed to derail topics here and sway the political outcome of a topic.
And lately Reggie has been getting closer to a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, or a major psychotic meltdown, depending on how you read his cryptic messages.
But, bottom line, I'm part of some grand Dan Brown like conspiracy to bring down the catholic lock stepped leftist blogs, and come hell or high water, damn the facts, he's is bound and determined to get me removed from LGF.
In short order, I don't know the people he is speaking of, I have nothing and have had nothing to do with them, now or in the past. Is there possibly some sort of "battle" going on here between Eric Odom and the rest of the blogosphere. Probably, possibly, but it's not my business or my doing and I'm not participating in any of it.
Anyway, that the best I can give you from what I have been able to fathom from Reggies rantings. This all started up again a few days ago, when I was online from Paris, passing on some chatter about my trip there, and he jumped in and started to make personal and inflammatory comments about my past marriages (no secret), my current girlfriend (no secret) and my spotty employment record over the last few years (no secret). I don't hide on the internet, I'm very open and personal. I don't hide behind a name like Regginal Perrin, who was a sad-sack character of a British twit on a BBC television show.
So what ever is going on, beats me. But I suspect I smell a troll. To use one of his favorite appellations... from what I can see coming from Reggies side of the monitor... obvious troll is obvious.

You're entitled to you opinion. I don't think Reggie is nuts, in the clinical sense, even though I have used hyperbolic language to that effect... that's all it's for is effect.
I do think he believes something, factual, part fact or totally false, which he has been trying to mold into a coherent schema. If that's the case, fine, I don't care. But leave me out of the conspiracy because I have nothing to do with it and I am as confused as some other Lizards over this stuff.
And keep the personal attacks out of it. I am a public person, the nature of some of my sideline activities require me to be public, but at the same time this puts me in the position to have to defend certain statements when they are made, especially about my finances and past domestic eras. This info is very public, but that doesn't give him the right to use it to ostracize me.

On a serious note... we had a very nice time, very busy (no group tours or taxis with my trips, you hit the pavement with the locals and move fast), probably filled 10 days with more activities than most people can even think of planning.

MY comment yesterday to Reggie about perhaps not carrying a three-day issue onward was not meant to be a personal shot at him but just a reminder that bringing personal grudges from thread to thread - let alone from several days ago - is bad form.
After reading this mornings meltdown and "only the Shadow knows" ramblings from him, I have to put him in the same letter box as B.B.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. It's snowing here again (I know, shocking), but what fresh hell have I awakened to on the overnight dead thread? Bad crazy being spewed and cryptic messages about the story of the decade? Really?
Put up or shut up I say. And leave the personal petty squabbles for someplace else.
In much more relevant and important new, the situation in Lebanon deserves far closer scrutiny. Hizbullah has all but completed a coup d'etat with the express purpose of thwarting a tribunal's investigation into the Hariri assassination that is presumed likely to hand down indictments against Hizbullah, Syrian, and Iranian thugs when the results of the investigation are made public in a few weeks.
Hizbullah could not tolerate such an event, so they've been trying to keep the tribunal from carrying out its work to bring Hariri's assassins to justice.
And the world looks on with indifference and a shrug.
165 | Ericus58 Tue, Jan 25, 2011 6:46:31am |
The Destroyer I was stationed on - USS McKean - was participating in an exercise off the coast of California in a missile test range area. The operation was to provide observation and screening duty for a guided missile cruiser launch.
It was a good weather day - only sparse high clouds and 1-2 foot swells, real nice.
We took up station to the south of the cruiser, the launch was to fly to our west I think. Our range to the cruiser put each ship past visual sight to the other.
I was on the sonar consul ("sonar stack") as watch operator, a GMT was manning the UB plot/ Fire Control station for the ASROC system, the division LPO and Chief were observing. Pretty standard Sonar Control watch during an exercise. SC was aft of the bridge on this ship was CIC, and SC was behind that - both spaces behind secure doors.
I picked up a contact on a bearing in-line with the firing ship - very faint and intermittent at first. After declaring to the Bridge our situation, the ship's Captain came into Sonar Control to access. We made some course changes and began to prosecute after determining there was no sub or ours operating in that specific area. Our Division Officer joined us at this time also.
All of a sudden, the ship's XO barged into Sonar Control with big eyes exclaimed "Missile launch from the contact! Heading toward us". The fear in his voice just chilled me to the core as I tried to concentrate on maintaining tracking of the contact.
The Captain wheeled and headed out back to the bridge and paused just long enough to say to our chief and Fire Control operator "Take the launcher to standby, do NOT fire until my command!". Then out the door... leaving us all in total silence except for the sounds of the ventilation fans and the ping of the sonar system on the overhead speaker above me.
Seconds dragged, I thought about... things yet to do, I'm not done yet....
Then from the Bridge came the word - "Stand Down, release the firing key."
The Chief - a short, slender Hawaiian - lit up a cig, took a drag and uttered a soft "you've got to be shitting me...." that tailed off. That when my hands started to shake.
It was determined that the missile was the operation launch from our cruiser. Because the contact and cruiser were on the same bearing, both the bridge watch and OS operators had I.D. it as a possible contact launch.
The XO was re-assigned off the ship upon our next port call in San Diego.
We lost the contact, and the P-3's where not able to re-acquire. We had no attack sub's to assist.
Now, if you are all good little boys and girls - Uncle Eric will tell another story to you sometime ;)

Hizbullah could not tolerate such an event, so they've been trying to keep the tribunal from carrying out its work to bring Hariri's assassins to justice.
And the world looks on with indifference and a shrug.
I've seen nothing in the main stream media about this since an initial story a week or so ago. Nothing. It seems that ought to be really big news.

That's not true - the NYT has been reporting on the situation, as has MSNBC.
The problem is that the reporting is not above the fold. Instead, we've got Oscar nominations dominating the front pages, followed by the Moscow airport bombing and the upcoming SOTU. Editors have simply ranked it lower than fluff (the Oscars) and the bombing - a quite important story.

re: #165 Ericus58
Seconds dragged, I thought about... things yet to do, I'm not done yet...
Then from the Bridge came the word - "Stand Down, release the firing key."
The Chief - a short, slender Hawaiian - lit up a cig, took a drag and uttered a soft "you've got to be shitting me..." that tailed off.
Closest thing to that I had was a late winter morning in 1983. I was in the 13th Armor BN, 1st Armor Division near Ansbach, FRG. Early one morning the alert siren goes off and we scramble with our bags to the motor pool, load up & head out the back gate to our assembly areas. Normally that's it. We get there, we stand down & go back to clean up and have breakfast after the drill.
Not that morning. The fuel go-ers pulled up and began topping the fuel tanks off. Behind it was an ammunition truck dropping off the boxes of small caliber (.30, .50 & .45 ACP) for our machine guns, pistol & sub-machine guns. Main gun ammo was stored on the tanks in the motor pool but we weren't allowed the firing pin to the gun due to previous "incidents" (usually involving intoxicated troopers). Said firing pins were being handed out with our three days of rations when the stand down finally came through. Back to base we go, very silently & thoughtfully. Breakfast sat like a lump in this PV2 's stomach, let me tell you.
We didn't have internet in those days, just the Stars & Stripes. We didn't learn until sometime later that there had been a coup attempt in Libya (IIRC) and given the state of US/USSR relations it was feared that it would be a European casus belli.
So it goes.

Presently my passport and my things are been held down by the hotel management pending when i make payment.
I need you to help me with a loan of 2500 Euros to pay my hotel bills and to get myself back home. I've been to the embassy and Police, but they are not responding to the matter effectively. I will appreciate whatever you can afford to assist me with. The money will be refunded as soon as i return home. Let me know if you can be of any help? ASAP. General Motors Co. sold more cars and trucks in China last year than it did in the U.S., for the first time in the company's 102-year history.Despite GM's growth in China, Toyota Motor Corp. held onto the title of world's largest automaker. The Japanese company reported 8.42 million sales worldwide last year. That's 30,000 more than GM's 8.39 million.
GM said Monday that it sold 2.35 million vehicles in fast-growing China, about 136,000 more than it sold in the U.S., with China sales surging 29 percent as an expanding middle class gained wealth. Sales in the U.S., including heavy-duty vehicles, rose 6.3 percent as GM continued to rebound from its 2009 stay in bankruptcy protection.
The article goes on to say that this has lead to more jobs for the Flint, MI plant.

There's somethin' happenin' here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun, over there
Tellin' me I got to beware
(I think it's time we)
Stop, children, what's that sound?
Everybody look - what's goin' down?
There's battle lines bein' drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speakin' their minds
Gettin' so much resistance from behind
(It's time we)
Stop, hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look - what's goin' down?
What a field day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singin' songs and carryin' signs
Mostly sayin', "hooray for our side"
(It's time we)
Stop, hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look - what's goin' down?
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the man come and take you away

Greenish goo is generally a sign of bacterial and not viral. Viral tends to stay more yellowy. Not 100% one or the other but fairly close. My rule is green equals doctor visit cause it can get worse if not treated (like pneumonia) and yellow just rest until it passes. Hasn't let me down yet.

That's not a cold, that's a sinus infection.
If it's shifting down your throat (post-nasal drip) and then you're hacking it up it might actually be a positive sign that it's starting to clear and drain out. Just keep taking care of yourself and make sure it doesn't convert into bronchitis.
Is the head pressure/clogged feeling starting to ease at all?

The focus on vehicles sold continues to be the wrong metric to determine whether a car company is viable. It's about making profits - and if GM is losing money on making a significant portion of those cars, then it doesn't matter how many it's selling.
It's the problem that got GM (and Chrysler, and to a lesser extent Ford) into this mess in the first place - focusing on units moved rather than profit per vehicle.
You can't sell cars at a loss for an extended period of time without it affecting the bottom line - and using financing arms to bolster the bottom line came crashing down showing that GM and Chrysler were losing money on all their cars and relying on financing to show profits. When the financing dried up - the massive losses multiplied.
So, the real question is whether GM is making profits on those cars sold in China. Or, are they subsidizing the sales by heavily subsidizing the sales with rebates, cash back, and low APR financing? That's what's lacking from the report to be truly useful.

So, the real question is whether GM is making profits on those cars sold in China. Or, are they subsidizing the sales by heavily subsidizing the sales with rebates, cash back, and low APR financing? That's what's lacking from the report to be truly useful.
You are right. Market share isn't the only indicator of success.

Can you imagine what it would be like living in NORKland?
Seems that their State run media is declaring imminent war 'bout every other day - gotta keep those citizens amped up.
How do you live in that type of environment? Plans for the future - why? It's all cinder clouds at anytime.
I think after a while you just don't give a shit any more. The fact that your stomach is empty would seem more pressing than the war that you keep hearing about but never see.

Seriously Reginald, I just finished a computer engineering degree. I'm out of the loop. And yes, I consider Walter a friend or at least a friendly acquittance. Same with many others on this blog. So while I'm well aware of his..method acting... here, I've yet to see evidence of any grand conspiracy. Assuming this is all based off of things Charles (and I'm assuming you?) has written... can you provide me with some background reading? Just links to the relevant posts.

People across Egypt took to the streets on Tuesday in demonstrations against corruption and failing economic policies, rallies partly inspired by similar protests that rocked Tunisia this month.Thousands were protesting in the capital of Cairo, according to the "Front to Defend Egypt Protesters," an alliance of lawyers who helped organize the events.
Hmm...last I checked the Muslim Brotherhood was next in line if the Egyptian government falls. This could be dangerous.

Head has been very achy since Sat. Made the plane flight home a bit uncomfortable at times.
Yep. Plane flights can make those worse since the pressure changes drive stuff all over up in your sinuses.
If you're not prone to them I second getting the doctor visit before it gets worse. My chronic condition started from a nasty initial infection caught back in 1986. Rainy conditions and a trip to a foreign land (well... Indiana) and I spent the second day of that trip in bed due to the initial infection wiping me out totally. Didn't go to a clinic until 2-3 days later and I was on decongestents and anti-biotics after that to treat it.

The text reads: Hope you get this on time, Sorry I didn't inform you about my trip to Spain for a program. I am having some difficulties here because i misplaced my wallet on my way to the hotel where my money, credit card and cell were kept.
ASAP. I don't have a phone where i can be reached. I am so confused right now."

In other news...
SOTU Address: The Real Story of Obama and Corporate America
The president isn’t caving to business. He’s co-opting it.
...Consider the data points. First, right around the time Obama announced Daley, he also appointed Gene Sperling as head of his National Economic Council. Sperling is exactly the person every Democrat should want in this position: Someone with center-left bona fides who may well possess the best combination of wonkish know-how and political smarts in Washington.
From conversations I’ve had with administration officials in recent weeks, it’s clearly Sperling and not Daley who’ll be the key policymaking force in this duo. In fact, Daley was viewed partly as cover for the more liberal Sperling. That’s why, in the run-up to these hirings, I’d repeatedly heard that Sperling’s only path to the NEC post was as part of a package deal that included a high-profile appointment the business community would embrace. “I don’t think there’s any way they just do Gene on his own,” an administration official told me late last year. “His best chance of getting the job is if it’s part of some [pairing]. … I think they recognize they need to send a signal about fresh thinking.”
Daley was that signal. And, judging from the reaction in the business community, the signal was received. U.S. Chamber of Commerce president Tom Donohue called the pick “a strong appointment” and praised Daley as “a man of stature and extraordinary experience.” Republican fundraiser Fred Malik pronounced him the “the first high-level Obama official who has held a real position in business” and cooed that “[h]e understands the business community.” (To be fair, Daley does bring real assets, like a strong managerial hand and genuine political savvy.)

Eventually, China's currency manipulations will fall apart, and when they do, it is going to be very, very ugly for China. They are flirting with hyperinflation if they aren't careful.
How's that? China's currency is if anything due to rise. There is no basis for a belief that China's rise to economic first world standing is just smoke and mirrors. They have a productive economy, a well educated populace, and a government that abstains from the kind of over-the-top cruelty and corruption that characterize so much of the third world.
The likely future of China over the next 30 years is that its per capita GDP will multiply by another factor of 5. This will make China's economy the clear #1 in the world, not in per capita terms but just in sheer mass. Her military and diplomatic weight will rise accordingly, without China having to take undue risks or crimp economic growth through heavy military spending.
A general belief in the U.S. that China is a paper tiger is a dangerous thing.

Page had a picture of the Aztec headdress, a really good one, and a picture of the double crown of the Egyptians, etc. etc. and I'm reading along about the crowns and then there's a picture of an alien head inside the two crowns with the note that "Thus we see that the Egyptians and the Aztecs were ruled by aliens."

And for that matter, the American Revolution was more of a move to keep the current Colonial leadership in place. The people who signed the Declaration were all lifetime leaders. The Crown was trying to replace them or make them irrelevant.

It's going to get messy - in more ways than one, especially if the MB takes advantage if Mubarak goes by the boards. The Camp David Accords - the peace deal between Israel and Egypt could go up in smoke.
It's one of the reasons that the West and the US have propped up Mubarak despite his autocratic rule. It's the perception that the alternatives would be far worse.

Spillover from the Tunisian uprising where they overthrew Ben Ali. It is the same kinds of grievances - higher food costs, lack of economic opportunities, repressed political situations, etc.

Welcome home!!
Hope you feel better and don't sneeze on the interviewer!
...P.S. you smell good tiger!
LOL
Good luck!
Sneeze... no... more like hack up something... shoot it across the room. Honestly... I've never been more stoked about a job interview (it's for the Denver Election Commission) and yet I physically feel like I'm dying (well, not quite, but I'm really sick).
I also think I'm going to make an appointment with the doc for tomorrow morning to get some antibiotics, because I definitely have a bronchial infection... a gift from the French :)

Oh brother. They'd blame her death on Israel if an IDF soldier had just breathed on her.

re: #427 Killgore Trout
I doubt he bothered to read through that particular story - when the woman allegedly died more than 30 minutes after passing through a screening device. Could have been coincidental - but since we're dealing with a Palestinian at an Israeli checkpoint, expect the usual claims that Israel is killing Palestinians by all sorts of nefarious methods.
Heck, they'd blame Israel even if she wasn't frisked or searched.
And the IDF will investigate the matter (with the results being ignored by those who believe Israel is wrong no matter what).

Dude - you keep commenting as if I'm in on some kind of plan with you. I'm not. Whatever you're doing (or not doing), it's on your own.
And if you want to continue in this vein I suggest you start a blog of your own to do it, because I know for a fact that it's getting on many commenters' nerves here, even people who are generally friendly to you. You've posted some funny stuff and some worthwhile info, so I'd prefer not to ban you - but I really don't need the grief.

If someone needs help for emotional issues, they should get that help.
But they need to go somewhere other than LGF. This is not a clinic, I'm not a therapist, and if someone begins acting out in some apparently irrational way, after being warned more than once to knock it off, they will lose their account.

484 | Charles Johnson Tue, Jan 25, 2011 2:22:23pm |
Just to be really clear, my concern has to be for the whole of the LGF community. That's my job here.
I'm not trained to offer emotional counseling, and what's more I don't want to. I already have a job and it's not as a counselor. If you need a counselor, there are plenty available and it doesn't take much to seek someone out -- in person, not over the Internet in a comment forum.
485 | Buck Tue, Jan 25, 2011 2:24:37pm |
I think Reggie's "it's not my blog (yet)" comment was right out of the TV show.
CJ's famous lines are statements beginning with "I didn't get where I am today by ..."
– except when Reggie becomes his boss, where he says "I didn't get where you are today by ..."
Weird huh?
