Sarah Palin’s Word Salad of the Day

Not real enthused
Wingnuts • Views: 45,777

In a tough, hard-hitting interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Sarah Palin bashes Barack Obama for his handling of the Egyptian crisis, then tosses up an especially colorful word salad for our enjoyment.

“It’s a difficult situation, this is that 3am White House phone call and it seems for many of us trying to get that information from our leader in the White House it it seems that that call went right to um the answering machine. And nobody yet has, no body yet has explained to the American public what they know, and surely they know more than the rest of us know who it is who will be taking the place of Mubarak and I’m not real enthused about what it is that that’s being done on a national level and from DC in regards to understanding all the situation there in Egypt. And in these areas that are so volatile right now because obviously it’s not just Egypt but the other countries too where we are seeing uprisings, we know that now more than ever, we need strength and sound mind there in the White House. We need to know what it is that America stands for so we know who it is that America will stand with. And we do not have all that information yet.”

Tasty!

Because of course we know exactly who the next leader is going to be. It's not like this situation is complicated and in flux or anything. /

How is large-scale demonstrations in Egypt a 3:00 AM phone call?

Say the call comes in. They wake the president. What does he do? Sit up and obsessively read twitter for a few hours, going "Wow, man."

What is he supposed to do at 3:00 AM that wouldn't wait until morning?

Apparently, he should take the half-governor's lead and make a tweet and a Facebook post about it.

Local group cancels Palin visit, citing "personal attacks"

Citing an "onslaught of personal attacks", a Colorado nonprofit today canceled a scheduled May appearance in Glendale by former Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, according to a press release.

Palin was to be the keynote speaker at the Patriots & Warriors Gala at the Infinity Park Events Center in Glendale.

The event sponsored by the Sharon K. Pacheco Foundation was announced Friday but was canceled today due to "safety concerns resulting from an onslaught of negative feedback received by the organization," the press release said

"Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Gov. Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns," the release said.

I wonder what that's about.

Barret Brown has issued another official Anon press release at Dkos...
Anonymous concedes defeat

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Anonymous, with five U.K. participants arrested and 40 U.S. participants raided by the FBI and a California grand jury assembling on February 10th. As such, the non-organization has announced defeat, at least for now, by way of the following press release, which was just written by an ad hoc committee of Rank 12 Barristers with a collective Enigma/STAT rating of over 9000.

Most of it is snarky nonsense but it seems this article has them a little nervous...
Cyberactivists warned of arrest

An international investigation into cyberactivists who attacked businesses hostile to WikiLeaks is likely to yield arrests of senior members of the group after they left clues to their real identities on Facebook and in other electronic communications, it is claimed.
...
Mr Barr said Q and other key figures lived in California and that the hierarchy was fairly clear, with other senior members in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Australia.

Of a few hundred participants in operations, only about 30 are steadily active, with 10 people who “are the most senior and co-ordinate and manage most of the decisions”, Mr Barr told the Financial Times. That team works together in private internet relay chat sessions, through e-mail and in Facebook groups. Mr Barr said he had collected information on the core leaders, including many of their real names, and that they could be arrested if law enforcement had the same data

Yep, Quayle wasn't an idiot, but he did do a good impression of one. It didn't help that he was VP to Bush 41. When you combine the personality of particle board with a lack of awareness of the world around you, you don't get the most appealing P/VP team.

She should have tried English. Communications or journalism should include a grasp of the English language. It is a pity she never got it.

I read the suggestion somewhere (here? Daily Kos?) that what Palin is speaking is evangelical-speak (or perhaps Pentecostal-speak.) Words being received directly from the heavens and relayed to the rest of the congregation. Not quite speaking in tongues, but a recognizable speech pattern to those who attend that sort of church.

Using that term is extremely offensive to many of us here. Either b/c we have family or have worked in the field (both for me). It's the equivalent of the "N" word for intellectual impairment. And to be honest if neither of those two realities didn't exist for me personally, I'd still object to its use, because it's a dehumanizing term.

OK, I'll back off. But I have to say it's used all the time in mainstream pop culture--Daily Show, Colbert, lots of sitcoms--so it's nothing like the n-word.

I think the same thing's happened to the word "retarded" - it's become a synonym for general stupidity, which makes applying it to a person with a genuine intellectual disability sound crass and insensitive (like, say, calling a person in a wheelchair a "gimp").

As I said at another thread, THEN WHY ARE YOU COMMENTING ON IT, YOU TWI???!!!

What she means is, the American PUBLIC doesn't have all that information. And she'd evidently like it to be made public. It can't be. Negotiations in the glare of the camera never come to anything.

Suppose, just to suppose, that there's a deal in the works where Mubarak resigns in two weeks because of his health. Face saving step, and he can get his retirement arrangements in order. But it won't work if made public.

Or suppose another what if. Suppose Mubarak has decided to tough it out, and he's told us so we can get our own people out alive if things really go bad. That wouldn't work either, if made public.

And there are endless other possibilities, many, surely, more realistic than these off the cuff examples.

re: #230 palomino

Lighten up. It was just a joke. Is the word retarded really too extreme?

There's no escape from connotations. Any word, however careful and clinical, takes on connotations once it goes into general circulation.

"Retarded" was meant to suggest not that the person is just plain, er, retarded, but instead, simply behind. As if they might catch up.

"Idiot" and "moron" began as technical terms. The next word, or phrase, coming around the bend, is "developmentally delayed".

It's part of human hardwiring to be somewhat taken aback upon encountering a person with very little in the way of cognitive capacity. Diminished capacity can be the result of illness, for example, which might be contagious, and evolution will have shaped our first reactions in ways that has us avoiding situations where we might catch a disease or ingest something poisonous.

Once we get to know what the word means, that hardwired reaction attaches to the word, too.

Nowadays we mostly know better, and people who do know better try to put aside such hardwired impulses, but those who have been severely burned or otherwise disfigured take some getting used to. Same with those whose brains, for whatever reason, are malfunctioning.

God willing, Rep. Giffords will recover sufficiently to resume her duties and lead a somewhat normal life, but even though we all love her and wish her the best, those whose life will intersect occasionally with hers are going to have to steel themselves to not react with the default, hardwired first reaction to whatever residual disabilities she may be stuck with.

re: #301 prairiefire

Please let me apologize on behalf of my fellow Americans. Canada has been such a constant ally, sometimes we take it for granted.
Thank You!!!

:D No need to apologize. I was just pondering about why some things get latched onto and some don't. Maybe it does have something to do with it being with Canada and how we kinda get lost sometimes. I was just thinking that if this type deal was being made with say Mexico people in general would be all over it. Mostly thinking of the wingnut types that are all about Obama and his NWO ambitions and all those crazy conspiracies etc.

We must commence a preemptive strike and invasion of Canada for the security of the homeland! There are WMDs in Canada and it is only a matter of time before they're used against the citizens of these United States!

Steady and constant. What better ally to have. ( I think we are to messy for their ordered ways).
Thank you JS, again. Sincerely. When President Bush ordered the call to arms, you have been right there with us.

Well with the exception of Iraq. We declined that invite.

White House Comes to Support of Suleiman

Same article at the NY Times...

CAIRO — The United States and leading European nations on Saturday threw their weight behind Egypt’s vice president, Omar Suleiman, backing his attempt to defuse a popular uprising without immediately removing President Hosni Mubarak from power.

American officials said Mr. Suleiman had promised them an “orderly transition” that would include constitutional reform and outreach to opposition groups.

“That takes some time,” Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton said, speaking at a Munich security conference. “There are certain things that have to be done in order to prepare.” ...

I pondered that. Omar Suleiman seems to have a more pleasant personality. Although my thoughts were to have Mubarak step down to be replaced immediately by Omar Suleiman until September.

There's a remarkable book, "Empires of Trust", by a historian whose field is ancient history, particularly Rome. His thesis is that Rome was, in its Republican days, an empire of sorts. Rome didn't seek conquest, but as a result of her wish to be left in peace, got drawn into wars and alliances. Since she was trustworthy, at least relatively so, her allies tended to remain allied and depend on her for their defense. Her enemies, and she defeated most of them, were treated with a degree of restraint and humanity which, in its day, astonished the vanquished and gradually drew some of them into the orbit of friendship with Rome.

Little by little, and against the actual wishes of the Romans, the sphere that Rome had to guarantee grew. And grew and grew.

And in that sphere, there was ever less to distinguish the citizens of the city of Rome from the citizens of "allied" towns that were for all practical purposes part of the empire. Ergo, empire.

The author draws a parallel to the U.S. today. By that standard, though neither you nor we wished it, you're already inside the perimeter.

An odd way of looking at it.

I have an idea for a viral website: The Palin Grammar Machine. It takes regular paragraphs, processes them, and spits out hilarious output.

Who's going to build it?

For those following the soap opera at home, the stalker who goes by the name "wristactionadmin" is a banned LGF user, who previously posted comments here with several names: "jummy," "hiney von pewps," "reasonable_man," and most notably "-=@$$=-" ...

Would you be surprised to learn that he's a Paulian?

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

Hmm. Searched his blog for "paul" and found an old posting about his banning where he says:

i was not ever and am not a ron paul supporter, nor am i sympathetic to paleolibertarianism (or nirtherism, sarah palin, intelligent design or any of the objects of charles' scorn recently). in fact i supported mccain for all of the rino reasons i suspect chales did.

He also says he defended Paul because critics were allegedly "tendentious and hypocritical".

To borrow from The Daily Show, that's not politically correct. That's correct correct.

re: #330 Sergey Romanov

OK, maybe he's not actually a Ron Paul supporter - it's possible that he only supported Ron Paul at LGF because he's a moron.

Or, he might just be lying. Because here's another comment in which he describes himself as an "anarcho-capitalist."

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

If you browse through the comments this obsessed loon posted at LGF, you'll find out that for all of his screaming about my extremism, he was actually far more extreme.

In one of his comments at TPM, he blasted me for using the term "Religion of Peace" -- well, he was an enthusiastic user of the term himself:

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

Here he is saying that the Muslim Public Affairs Council is composed of "rats:"

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

There are also several comments in which he, ironically, demanded that I ban other LGF users.

338 Jaerik  Sun, Feb 6, 2011 12:12:11pm

(Sorry, late to topic.)

So according to Sarah Palin, the proper response to Obama's "3am phone call" would be for him to... talk to people? That seems to be about as far as she got.

Is she implying the President isn't talking to people? I mean, I don't have the foggiest what she's even criticizing here.

Then again, neither does she I imagine.

re: #337 Charles

I wouldn't put it past them to lie about all kinds of things, like they often lie about the cause of their bans ("just for disagreement!") or about that "Geller" thing. Still, when he writes this explicitly, I thought it should be taken into account, which is why I posted.

re: #342 Yashmak

You're right. It's Rumsfeldian, but has a lyrical quality that I have tried to capture by reducing it to its essence:

And
nobody yet has, nobody yet has
explained what they know
surely they know more than the rest of us know
who it is who will be
and no, not, not real enthused
what is is that that is being done
in regards to
understanding all the situation
And,
right now
because obviously
we know now more than ever
we need strength and sound mind
We need to know what it is
so we know who it is
And
we do not have all that information yet
