But a new analysis, done by a researcher at Stony Brook University, found that while frogs lost teeth in the lower jaw at least 200 million years ago, a particular type of marsupial tree frog regained those lower teeth about 20 million years ago.

Of course, the conspiracy goes deeper than Beck has yet revealed; I’m hoping that, in coming days, if the Freemasons, working in concert with Hezbollah and the Washington Redskins, don’t succeed in suppressing the truth, that Beck will reveal the identities of the most pernicious players in this grotesque campaign to subvert our way of life. I can’t reveal too much here, but I think it’s fair to say that Beck will be paying a lot of attention in the coming weeks to the dastardly, pro-caliphate work of Joy Behar; tthe makers of Little Debbie snack cakes; the 1980s hair band Def Leppard; Omar Sharif; and the Automobile Association of America. And remember, you read it here first.

House rejects measure that would extend key Patriot Act provisions through December
By Felicia Sonmez
Updated: 7:15 p.m.
A measure to extend key provisions of the Patriot Act counterterrorism surveillance law through December failed the House Tuesday night, with more than two-dozen Republicans bucking their party to oppose the measure.
The House measure, which was sponsored by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) and required a two-thirds majority for passage, failed on a 277-to-148 vote. Twenty-six Republicans voted with 122 Democrats to oppose the measure, while 67 Democrats voted with 210 Republicans to back it. Ten members did not vote.
The measure would have extended three key provisions of the Patriot Act that are set to expire on Monday, Feb. 28, unless Congress moves to reauthorize them. One of the provisions authorizes the FBI to continue using roving wiretaps on surveillance targets; the second allows the government to access “any tangible items,” such as library records, in the course of surveillance; and the third is a “lone wolf” provision of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorist Prevention Act that allows for the surveillance of targets who are not connected to an identified terrorist group…

The vote came as several tea party-aligned members of the new freshman class had been expressing doubts about the measure.
Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, who highlighted his opposition to the law during his upstart 2010 Senate campaign, signaled Monday that he may vote ultimately vote against an extension when the measure comes up in the Senate, likely later this month.
“I’ve had a lot of reservations about the Patriot Act,” Paul said when asked whether he’s leaning toward voting for an extension. “We’re reviewing it and we’re going over it, and we will have something out probably in the next couple of days,” he added. “We won’t be shy about it when it comes out.”

You know what, fuck these bastards.
Republicans Push Antiabortion Bills
The most sweeping of the new measures, by Rep. Chris Smith (R., N.J.), seeks to undo any government connections to abortion, even indirect ones. It specifies that companies and individuals wouldn’t receive tax breaks for health coverage if their policies covered abortion. House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) appeared at a press conference announcing the bill.
At a lively hearing Tuesday, Democrats and Republicans wrangled over whether such tax breaks amount to government “funding,” and whether current policy allows for any taxpayer funding of abortion.

[Link: www.dailytech.com…]
Just like most crap legislation that covers massive govt expansion through the guise of safety it never does what they say they want it for…it is only a ruse to take away your personal freedoms and treat good law abiding citizens like criminals.
But you probably don’t care that they use the Patriot Act as a loophole to catch “other” criminals…hey as long as they get some bad guys with it - the end justifies the means.
For me it’s the fact it’s a leaky boat. Law enforcement has abused it and used it to arrest for crimes that aren’t remotely what the act was meant to be for. If they can plug the holes and fix it I might be more open to supporting it, but not as it is.
“List the GOP that voted against it.
Prove your point.”
Why don’t you, you’re the one that said they were RINOs, so go ahead tell us who they are! Personally I don’t really care so long as they voted it down I’m happy. Boehner: ‘I should be’ considered a member of the Tea Party
O’Donnell pledges PAC will counter ‘liberal’ GOP establishment
Here’s the O’Donnell email:
Dear xxx ,
Your incredible contribution of time and money allowed us to send the establishment a powerful message last year. Our fight is not over as so many patriots like you have sacrificed over the years to keep America great!
You’ve probably heard about the latest smear on me. The establishment is going to keep attacking and keep trying to destroy those they think might be a threat.
They won’t let up.
The Left keeps after me because they consider strong, Republican women a danger to their status quo. Larry Kudlow recently said “the hope of the Tea Party rests with you because this is going to be used to discredit the Tea Party in its entirety.”
Bill O’Reilly recognizes the viciousness of the Left’s attacks on me. Recently on his program he said “…the press relished attacking you. They relished it. They loved it… they didn’t go after Carly Fiorina the way they went after you. It was all personal… They just want to demean you… The old boys don’t want to give up their power.”
I’m determined not to let them destroy our movement. If I stand alone, though, I’m no match for the liberal media and the political establishment. But, with us standing together to fight, they don’t have a chance!
That’s why I’m starting ChristinePAC.
ChristinePAC can investigate and counter attack leftwing groups, many funded with one million dollars or more from billionaire leftist George Soros.
A strong ChristinePAC will enable me to counter the liberal-controlled GOP establishment in upcoming Congressional Primaries. Remember, for primary challengers to win, conservatives needs to start organizing now in 2011 - or else candidates who reflect our values won’t be able to run an effective 2012 campaign.
Your donation also enables me to speak out in many venues from Coast to Coast, thereby helping support a nationwide effort. This is a way that will help me counter attack our opponents and bring the battle to them.
You have helped me come this far. You have been a true friend. Please help me again with your donation. These are battles that will be won or lost based on how much support and organization our side can put forward right now.
That is why I ask you most urgently to lend your financial support to ChristinePAC.
Make your donation right now.
You are the reason I made a stand for our cause in 2010.
You are the reason that President Obama came to Delaware in late 2010, diverting his attention from other states he could have campaigned in. You are the reason that a frantic White House dispatched Vice President Joe Biden, again and again, to campaign in Delaware to defeat me, who they regarded as their number one opponent.
You are the reason that the largest army - busload after busload - of SEIU labor union and ACORN “paid volunteers” came to campaign in Delaware.
My friend, what you helped me do at the six week long Battle of Delaware 2010, sent shock waves throughout the nation. We can build on what we have accomplished if you will help me again in supporting ChristinePAC.
Sincerely,Christine O’Donnell

Those are some pretty awful provisions. Hooray for the libertarian Right!

I would normally consider these provisions to be essential elements of our war on terror, but as long as Obama’s thugs are in the White House, maybe I can live without them.

Yeah. But I’m cynically enjoying the political genuflecting from the right. What they were in 2003 is a different animal that they are now. Even though there was opposition to the Patriot Act from the right back then. People just never noticed and it was strongly silenced by the mainstream right.

GOP freshmen help derail Patriot Act extension
Attention immediately swung to whether House members sympathetic to the tea party had decided the matter, especially after Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio) said Monday that the vote would be “the tea party’s first test.”
The Republicans who voted no Tuesday night included Roscoe G. Bartlett (Md.), Paul Broun (Ga.) and Walter B. Jones (N.C.), all of whom were original members of the House Tea Party Caucus when it was founded last summer.
And nine GOP freshmen also voted no: Justin Amash (Mich.), Michael G. Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Christopher P. Gibson (N.Y.), Tom Graves (Ga.), Randy Hultgren (Ill.), Raul R. Labrador (Idaho), Robert Schilling (Ill.), David Schweikert (Ariz.) and Rob Woodall (Ga.).

This other blog, whatever it is, clearly bothers you. Why not remind yourself that none of it impacts real life? Yes, it is easy to get invested in a social network, even an online one. This other blog appears to be a pretty clear object lesson in what happens when you get too invested. Why not just remind yourself that if you didn’t even know it existed, your life would be no different, and thus it basically doesn’t matter? In any case, it is hardly worth trifling yourself over.

Thanks, again. Needed a reality check.
Online people are not real. They are real insofar as you see what they’re really like inside, but that’s not ‘real’. As humans, we crave human connection. We need it. Connecting with online communities gives a semblance of it, and it’s better than none at all, but it is a warped version of real communities, because anonymity and lack of consequences creates a totally false environment. It’s like getting invested in TV characters; fun for a while, but ultimately unsatisfying.
Talk to real people. Even over the phone, or on voice chat. Better yet, in person. That there is human contact.

Bad? You want bad? For a civics class we were teaching, we had to have a bunch of middle schoolers (mostly boys) memorize the name of the Speaker of the House.

Bill Kristol really hit the ball several miles high with his Stand for Freedom column. The proof is that he’s being attacked by all the right people. First Glenn Beck went after Kristol in his own maniacal way, then came the Stalkers, parroting their media leader Beck. Now the Shrieking Harpy weighs in, calling for Kristol to “Stand for Truth” (which Pam Geller wouldn’t now if it smacked her across the face):
But Kristol is so wrong, inexcusably so. Glenn Beck nailed it. The advance of Islamic supremacism is exactly what is at play here. And we are right to be cautious. Nobody expects Mubarak to survive — we only care about what comes after.
Finally, someone had the guts to speak to Islamic supremacism and its global project nine years after September 11, and Kristol smacks him down. Many of us have been covering this for years, perplexed and disturbed that no one in the mainstream media dared touch it.
The left always aligns itself with the totalitarian ideology of the day (i.e., Stalinism, Communism, National Socialism, etc.), and so it is with Islamic supremacism. Those of us covering the anti-America, anti-war, anti-Israel movement have documented this for years. CODE PINK, ANSWER, Al Awda, the Socialist Workers Party, the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), CAIR, ISNA, If Americans Knew (IAK), Friends of Sabeel-North America (FOSNA), the Muslim American Society (MAS), and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) have been working and agitating together for years.
Trust me, Mr. Kristol, Beck did not “invent” that.
There is nothing that Beck said that was inaccurate. It’s all there. You don’t have to look for ghosts. There is vast historical, political, and judicial evidence of the global jihad and its ties. As for the existence of the violent goals of the caliphate, read the Qur’an and Hadith. Tally the daily death toll of non-Muslims in Muslim countries around the world. Or better yet, take a quick look at the past millennium and the 270 million victims of jihadi wars, land appropriations, cultural annihilations and enslavements.
There is Kristol-lite and there is reality. The Muslim Brotherhood has been open about demanding a restoration of Islamic law. They’re calling for democracy in Egypt because they know they have the votes for establishing an Islamic state. And yet William Kristol writes that “the idea that democracy produces radical Islam is false: Whether in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian territories, or Egypt, it is the dictatorships that have promoted and abetted Islamic radicalism. (Hamas, lest we forget, established its tyranny in Gaza through nondemocratic means.)”
You know someone’s right when the Harpy shrieks at them.

You know someone’s right when the Harpy shrieks at them.
Oh really? So you’re ready to stick for CAIR since the Harpy shrieks at them on an hourly basis…

Hugelkutur.
The name is fun to say too. The guy in that video I linked to last night does an adaptation of it for some of his stuff.

It is isn’t it. I’ve done some mulch gardens before but never considered using wood. Should have though because it’s basically just mimicing what happens in a forest. Heck I spent half a semester studying things like nurse trees but never thought to put it together. When I read about it I thought, of course it would work…duh. I’ve seen it in action already.

Haven’t read the book - but after hearing that interview I went and read up on the book, and decided I really should read it. He has an extensive knowledge of Islamists and of the region.

Damn. Looks like the thread is dying, everybody going to sleep.
I’ve been busy with a class in stained glass. The class is 2 hours a week, but we can’t finish each week’s work in that time, so we have to spend some time in the workroom (which is at LSU) every week to finish each week’s work.
Tonight’s assignment - start assembling our pieces with the leading.
The teacher talked for about 30 minutes, then for the next 30 minutes she demonstrated the leading process, how to make cuts in the lead, how to determine which lines are single lines of lead and which should be smaller intersecting lines and how to cut angles, etc. She put together about 1/2 of a small window during this demonstration.
Then we had an hour to begin our projects. In that hour, I managed to NOT finish one straight line of glass with leading. I couldn’t believe how awkward that process is. I cannot imagine the practice it must take to become enough of a craftsman to do one of those large windows like the ones they have in churches, which have hundreds of pieces of glass (my piece has 24 pieces of glass).

Tomorrow the House under GOP rule starts what will likely be only the first of a string of circus shows aimed to entertain (and reinforce the false beliefs of) their “base” as well as reward their sponsors.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is having a hearing:
Hearing on “H.R. ___, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011”
It’s aimed at showing that the EPA ought not to regulate CO2.
When the first “witness” on the list is Oklahoma’s favorite son, James Inhofe, you know it’s going to be a real doozy of a hearing.
Joe Romm summarizes the nature of most of the other witnesses:
National Black Chamber of Commerce president Harry Alford has received $425,000 from ExxonMobil since 1998.Margo Thorning is the vice president and chief economist for the American Council for Capital Formation, or ACCF. ACCF has received $215,000 from Koch foundations and nearly $1.7 million from ExxonMobil.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s 2010 campaign was heavily funded by some of Texas’s largest industries, with most coming from people connected to oil and gas interest. A vocal climate-denier, Abbott sued the Obama administration to end an offshore oil-drilling moratorium instituted following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and has taken the federal EPA to court three times in the past year.
Lonnie Carter is president of Santee Cooper, the largest single mercury polluter in South Carolina.
Steve Cousins is vice president of Lion Oil, which ranks 27 on the list of top 100 facilities releasing chemicals such as nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and benzene into the environment.
Peter Glaser of Troutman Sanders LLP works with the Washington Legal Foundation, which has received $325,000 from ExxonMobil since 1998.
Fred Harnack represents the U.S. Steel Corporation, which ranks 19th on the 2010 Political Economy Research Institute Toxic 100 Air Polluters list.
James Pearce is the environmental general manager for FMC Corp., which had to pay the largest civil penalty ever obtained under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act for repeatedly violating the hazardous waste law at its phosphorus production facility in Pocatello, Idaho.
Steve Rowlan is the environmental general manager at Nucor Corp., which is 24 on the 2010 Political Economy Research Institute Toxic 100 Air Polluters list.
Self-proclaimed “climate-denier-in-chief” Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK), and one of the draft legislation sponsors, will also testify at the hearing.Illinois Farm Bureau president Phillip Nelson has a history of attacking air and water safeguards, while supporting big polluting mega-farms.
That’s quite the “witness” list. Witness to what… well that is the question.

We beginners were fearful of cutting our glass wrong, so we all ended up with pieces that are larger than the patterns we used. Which is OK, we have grinders and can grind off extra. But when you’re having to grind off a lot of extra on every single damn piece, it’s time consuming. Not to mention your fingers get quite a few little cuts on them.
I am thoroughly enjoying the class. I’ve been taking photos of each step of the process; and when it’s over and done with, I’ll put up a page about it (or it might take a few pages; I don’t know if there’s a limit on the number of photos that can be in one page - not that I have an excessive number of photos, 2 or 3 per step, but altogether it might be more than I can put on one page).

Yes… it stopped snowing this afternoon, the foot dropped over night Monday night… the supermarket I work at is only 5 miles away, it’s up here in the mountains… so it’s not a long drive. Three of the roads I travel is 2 lanes wide, country roads, mountainous, then out to the main highway 285, the second major east-west-south route across the state, and that’s 4 lanes, divided with on/off merge lanes.
All of these roads have been plowed, but there will still be a snowpack, you won’t see much blacktop for a few days, so you still have to be careful.

___, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011”It’s aimed at showing that the EPA ought not to regulate CO2.
When the first “witness” on the list is Oklahoma’s favorite son, James Inhofe, you know it’s going to be a real doozy of a hearing.
Joe Romm summarizes the nature of most of the other witnesses:
That’s quite the “witness” list. Witness to what… well that is the question.
WOW, a bunch of innocent little industrialists will whine about how the mean EPA has made it harder for them to destroy the air, water and soil, contaminate our food and make our nation uninhabitable. POOR POOR innocent little industrialists.

Well of course they are loveless. They are hateful shallow pathetic shells of men. Well respectfully, I am going to marry her, so yes, she is the center of my world. However, she really would understand the need to put one of them in place.
If I may though, you need to polish up your form a little when dealing with them. If you are going to write them a love note, focus on their many flaws.
For example, if you were bashing one of them that seems to have developed a crush on you, point out that the silly little git hasn’t been laid since the Reagan Administration and that really his sister shouldn’t count even if he is a Southerner, so he really should take out his jealous frustration on self improvement, maybe get a job, loose a few (as in 50) lbs, and then he might have a shot with some of the ladies if he learns to not be so greasy.
