Tech Note: LGF Search Requests w/ Popup Images

What people look at
LGF • Views: 35,034

Since adding the Search Requests feature to our Referrers page, I began to notice that a large number of our hits from Google were coming from their “Image Search” results pages. So to make things a little more interesting, I added the code to pop up the images that people find through Google with our jQuery-based lightbox effect. In the list of search requests, the image filenames are preceded with “Image:”.

For even more fun, all the images on the Search Requests page are automatically put into a slideshow, and you can step through the pictures by clicking on the left or right side of an image, or by typing the left or right arrow keys.

There are so many hits from image searches, I may have to break them out into a third tab. They’re overwhelming the regular text searches.

Google’s image search is pretty darn good. Bing has one too - is anybody using it? Do you see much action from Bing?

3 BishopX  Mon, Feb 14, 2011 3:24:50pm

Is there a way to get the search text in the light box with the picture? Or at least something to click to bring it pack to the search term?

The search term isn’t included in the referral URL, unfortunately!

I’m sometimes glad that people can’t easily back track how I got to some of the links I’ve discovered.

There are plenty of hits from Bing’s image search, but they don’t include the image URL in the referrer, as Google does.

Grover Norquist represents the plutocratic wing of the Republican Party. Given the enormous financial resources of the Middle East petrocracy, it should hardly be surprising that there would be Islamist fellow travelers among conservatives. I’m actually surprised that the situation is not worse than it is.

There is another fast rising ‘conservative’ [sic] icon, whom many are lately touting for president, who should have the whistle blown on him. I’m talking about New Jersey’s governor, Chris Christie who, like Grover Norquist, has troubling past and present ties to Islamic radicals

Ariz. may require hospitals to check citizenship

Arizona lawmakers are trying to widen the state’s illegal immigration crackdown with a proposal to require hospitals to confirm whether patients are in the country legally.

The National Conference of State Legislatures says it knows of no other states considering similar bills.

The proposal being heard late Monday by the Arizona Senate’s judiciary committee would require hospitals to contact immigration authorities if a patient is an illegal immigrant.

Jesus christ. That scenario is supposed to be a thought experiment to show people the impossibility of checking citizenship, not an actual plan.

So stupid.

I assume that if they are illegal immigrants, I supposed the plan is to withhold health care from them while arranging their deportation, even if the cost of their deportation would be more than the cost of their medical care.

Speaking of crotches, I just remembered something I read earlier today on Wikipedia:

The word ‘avocado’ comes from the Nahuatl word ahuacatl (testicle, a reference to the shape of the fruit). Guacamole dip, anyone?

They were probably looking for this…

Avocados are tasty treats!

They sure are!

re: #90 reine.de.tout

I honestly - don’t quite know - what to say to that.

Me either, but I thought Id share anyway. LOL

The part that weirded me out even more was this:

The Nahuatl ahuacatl can be compounded with other words, as in ahuacamolli, meaning avocado soup or sauce, from which the Mexican Spanish word guacamole derives.

IOW, the literal translation of guacamole would be testicle soup/sauce. *grimace*

117 reine.de.tout  Mon, Feb 14, 2011 6:33:11pm

Well, I’m not much in the mood to move up to a Chris Matthews/Glenn Beck thread.

In my stained glass class, we began to assemble our pieces.

I got one row done and then I broke a piece of glass.
It was a piece without which I could not proceed any further.

And off course I wasn’t satisified with breaking my own glass, oh no!
I was “helping” my sister-in-law because I couldn’t do anything more on my own piece - and I broke a piece of HER glass as well.

We were not the only ones to break some glass during the assembly. In fact, most of us did. hehehe. Not used to dealing with the glass.

Well, I finally got all my supplies together, so I’ll be trying my hand at at cutting some block prints on linoleum & vinyl carving blocks. The cutting gouges are pretty sharp, and you know what I told you about me & sharp things…

Luckily, I found an electric stencil cutter (like a wood burning tool, but not as hot and it has a special tip to melt thru the plastic), so at least I won’t have to risk using an X-acto knife for stencils.

Hey, sorry, safari shut down on me.

Usually, if the place that teaches it has a glass grinder and soldering irons that you can use, the basic supplies you need cost around $40 to $50.

The glass for my piece was less than $30, and I bought some expensive glass mixed in with the cheaper glass.

So - for ABOUT $70 = $100, you can get the basic supplies you need to make a piece.

Now, I’ve gone ahead and ordered a grinder (About $100) and my own soldering iron ($50) because I’m going to continue to do this. That’s still, IMO, a fairly inexpensive, especially given that to make a piece about 15 X 12, glass, lead, solder, etc., will cost you less than $50.

Yep, CL, I know what you mean.
You must TAKE PHOTOS and send me photos of what you do! Well, let me add, “PLEASE????”

CL - my template has BLOOD all over it. I cut my finger on a small shard when I started putting my piece together, and bled all over my paper. LOL. Not badly, but it’s just spread all over. Doesn’t look particularly attractive.

It’s not hard, but it’s just a bit awkward until you get the hang of things, but it doesn’t take all that much practice.

Y’all are so funny!

I do my scrapbooking with a program called “Memory Mixer” it’s a basic scrapbooking thingie, and I can do it all on the computer. So no scrapbook paper for me! Plus it’s easier and faster and neater than the paper.

I’ve wanted to do stained glass for a long time. I’ve got several projects in mind already.

The most difficult part is assembling with the leading in place, especially if you have curves and angles to go around. Our teacher challenged us by not starting us off with simple squares, etc. When we finish class, we’ll know enough to do anything, really, it will be simply a matter of becoming practiced.

I will say I have a newly found appreciation for the complex sort of glasswork see in church windows, etc.

Luckily, I don’t have a husband to fuss at me about spending on art stuff. Ohhh, the other day I saw that Pazzles machine—the $500 one that lets you do custom die cuts, etc. As a graphic designer it made me drool. Got a new credit card this month, but I vowed not to use it on stuff I don’t really need. *sigh*

Sure. I’ll be on the lookout.
One thing about Egypt - it was a bit easier to follow (at least for me) because I was already familiar with Sandmonkey and his blog. For Iran, I’ve found the Tehran Bureau is very good. I hope you saw the link earlier to their liveblog of the Iran situation.
