Hoft, Geller, and McCain Race to the Bottom in Lara Logan Posts

Misogyny, paranoia, and persecution complexes
Wingnuts • Views: 35,718

The reaction of some right wing bloggers to the assault suffered by CBS News reporter Lara Logan is utterly repulsive. Some of these people are actually gloating over the attack.

DERPJim “Dim” Hoft leads the pack with a stupidly offensive and ugly post that manages to pack bigotry, misogyny, and general sociopathy into just a few moronic sentences: After Sexual Assault & Beating… CBS Reporter Logan Learns That Political Correctness Is a Killer | The Gateway Pundit.

Hoft, of course, thinks Logan is a liberal feminist who was asking for it.

Lara Logan is lucky she’s alive.
Her liberal belief system almost got her killed on Friday. This talented reporter will never be the same.

Why did this attractive blonde female reporter wander into Tahrir Square last Friday? Why would she think this was a good idea? Did she not see the violence in the square the last three weeks? Did she not see the rock throwing? Did she miss the camels? Did her colleagues tell her about the Western journalists who were viciously assaulted on the Square? Did she forget about the taunts from the Egyptian thugs the day before? What was she thinking? Was it her political correctness that about got her killed? Did she think things would be different for her?

“I ♥ Muslims.”Pamela “Shrieking Harpy” Geller discovers yet another conspiracy by the evil media, to cover up “the vile Islamic anti-semitism at the heart of Islam,” and help the stealth Islamic jihad supremacists take over Egypt: ‘60 Minutes’ Lara Logan was Repeatedly Raped by Egyptian Mob Yelling, ‘Jew, Jew! Jew!’ - Atlas Shrugs

Geller wants President Obama to make a statement condemning the vile heart of Islam. I guess she forgot that Obama’s supposed to be a sekrit Moslem Manchurian usurper himself.

This horrible story gets worse and worse. Worse still, CBS tried to keep the whole thing quiet and was forced to get in front of the story only when it became widely known that other media outlets were on to it. Who are they covering for?

And why? Because the false narrative the media is painting of what is going on in Egypt is patently false, and this brutal sex attack points to something else entirely.

The NY Post is the only news outlet reporting that the Muslims raping her were shouting “Jew, Jew, Jew.” Obama should make a statement addressing this horror and condemning the vile Islamic anti-semitism at the heart of Islam.

“You buy the ticket, you take the ride.”Knuckle-dragging neo-Confederate Robert Stacy McCain, meanwhile, assumes the standard right wing persecution pose, and whines and complains that people criticize him when he spews misogynistic comments: Paging Jill Filipovic : The Other McCain

McCain is singling out Jill Filipovic because his fragile white supremacist’s ego is still damaged from his last encounter with her, when he said about victims of date rape, “You buy the ticket, you take the ride.”

Please tell me what I am permitted to say when a gang of Egyptian men celebrates the end of the Mubarak regime by sexually assaulting an American TV news reporter…

I suppose any sign of sympathy is too much to ask.

Nothing says classy quite like attacking a rape victim.

Just when you think they can't stoop to a new low. Wingnut bloggers manage to outdo themselves every day. The only way to describe them is as "stark raving crazy".

It's great this is all documented and organized all in one place (LGF). When I get asked why I'm gone from the GOP and maybe even conservatism a few links such as these should make my point for me.

Admittedly, I have not been following this story closely, but were they really shouting "Jew! Jew! Jew!"?

Attacking a rape victim gets you a few extra labels with that...

Just a few news cycles ago rationale people thought that a nutter who shot a congresswoman might be influenced by heated rhetoric, the majority of which seems to come from Teabaggia.

To add something nice to this thread. Many Egyptians are of course upset about this. Many Egyptians are actually calling for something to be done about it. Not just in bringing the perpetrators to justice but dealing with the over all attitudes and social issues that allow this sort of thing. Much like many women and men call for here.

There is talk about organizing a protest or march.

Then there are things like this.

[Link: www.change.org...]

Sexual harassment is one of the ugliest forms of mental & physical abuse. The effects of which can be long lasting and severely harmful to the mental health of those who suffer this abuse. It remains to be one of the last standing tarnishing factors on the reuptation of Egypt

With our new found "freedom" from an intrinsically opressive system, it is now high time to call for a legal end to this sickening phenomenon.Time to take this revolutionary Tahrir spirit to the streets of the nation to quell the very notion of sexual harassment. Time to make this an offence severely punishable by law.

When, as a nation, we called to "bring down the system", this is the exact sort of thing we were calling for. Not just the dismantling of an ailing, opressive political system, but also the vile, rotten systems of thought and action within a few, perverted Egyptians.

It is safe to say that after witnessing the pure spirit of Tahrir, this sickening phenomenon represents only a few terrible seeds in society. Seeds that have turned into devilish shrubs, that must now be weeded out, for good. True Egyptians were protecting their sisters, wives, daughters and ladies they don't even know in the fight to earn our freedom. The Egyptians that stood up to bullets, tear gas, knives, swords, thugs, sniper fire and petrol bombs can and will stand against sexual harassment

Please add your voice to this peitition, pledging to not accept and to take action against any forms of sexual harasssment. In addition, it will also serve as an apology of the people to each and every single person that has suffered from this. Most recently CBS reporter Lara Logan.

Lara Logan, I apologize sincerely with all my heart

To every girl, woman, mother harassed, I apologize sincerely with all my heart

To my mother nation Egypt, I apologize sincerely with all my heart

& promise you all that I will try the very best that I can to bring an end to this, in the quest to have our sisters "Walk Free"

Thank You

35 lostlakehiker  Wed, Feb 16, 2011 12:14:42pm

The tacit assumption in most of the coverage is that the attack on Logan was the work of those celebrating the fall of Mubarak. But that doesn't make sense. Every other attack on reporters came from the pro-M side. It was Mubarak and his claque that were claiming that reporters were meddling in Egyptian affairs and that ordinary Egyptians loved M.

You don't celebrate a win by raping those who just helped you win and are now helping you broadcast your victory party.

As to the cause being that Logan was PC-blind, that's cruel. Logan had to have known that she was risking everything. So were all the reporters. They covered the story anyway because unless the risk is prohibitive, that's what reporters do. They report.

She, and the rest of them and their crews, deserve a salute.

36 webevintage  Wed, Feb 16, 2011 12:15:32pm

I am just ENRAGED by some of the responses to her attack...let alone the attack on Logan herself.

Either it is her fault for being pretty or white or losing her crew or being an uppity woman who thinks she can do a dude's job or because she's a lib (? who knows Logan is not even American) or her sex life (yeah, really the LA Times blog had to go into her sex life)..... I could go on and on.

or it is the fault of CBS....why did they send a woman of all people to Egypt. Never mind Logan is seriously experienced at reporting from dangerous places. From what I understand she left London and traveled on her own to get to Afghanistan when the war started.

Or it is because Muslim brown men are unable to control themselves as if gang rape never happens in Western countries with large Christan populations.

The last month has been one big "fuck you" to women from the GOP and now this story brings out all the "fairer sex" shit and "what did she expect" shit.

It just never ends.....

and I have a feeling CBS only released the story after Logan gave her permission.

Oh, it gets worse than that. I had a Pakistani guy tell me once how when he was much younger (and stupider) some guy kept stalking his sister, following her home form school, trying to talk to her, etc. When she told him about it because it was scaring her, he said he slapped her.

Utterly confused, I asked him why in the hell he'd done that. His response was, "Because I assumed she must've been doing SOMETHING to encourage him, otherwise he wouldn't have kept bothering her." My head almost exploded on the spot. Of course, by the time he was relaying the story to me he realized that he'd been wrong, but sheesh. Talk about an eye-opener.

In any event, it was exactly the same sort of misogynistic thinking that's on display today by these vile bloggers, right here in the good old US of A.

I think it's a combination of things, at least for me. I don't think I was as sensitive to this stuff before being in other circles and mindsets. Add to that, maybe when it did bubble up I did not give it the heed I should have or laughed it off. I have a touch of shame about it.

On top of that I think it really is coming all out now. People are really getting their freak on, it is heightened.

This recent 'blame Lara' outburst is another big moment for me reviewing what conservatism is and where I stand. Possibly, moving from passively acknowledging I was a GOP voter and conservative to active deprecation for being influenced by all that bullshit for so many years.

What's worse? A liberal, or an ex-conservative who rejected the GOP after becoming 'too conservative?'

What is happening is akin to the guy at the party who tells off color race jokes about 'black people.' After some laughs and no rejection, they get a little worse. After further lack of pushback, they turn into outright 'n*****' jokes. This is happening on a grand scale, on the order of thousands and millions. It's very depressing.

'Bad guys' aren't responsible for every bad act. And 'good guys' aren't always total angels. Humans can do horrible things whether motivated by anger or euphoria. Just because we pick one side as the good guys and one as the bad guys doesn't mean it really is that way, or that one side is responsible for every terrible thing.

Yes. But if it is true that multiple men repeatedly raped an American reporter in the middle of the square while shouting "Jew! Jew! Jew!" I would say this story is quite exceptionally horrendous.

The story might be true, but at this point the only source for it is the New York Post, and that makes it questionable.

It wouldn't be surprising that thugs and criminals who rape and beat women are also antisemites. But it also wouldn't be surprising if the Post report is exaggerated or outright wrong.

re: #61 BigPapa

I don't know why it would matter. Fucking rapists happen to be rabid anti-semites: dog bites man.

Not to diminish antisemitism, but why is this of any real relevance?

There were reports from Alexandria, starting around Jan. 28, I think, that the crowds were being told that all the journalists, no matter where they were from, were Israeli spies and/or Jews.

I hope the majority of Egyptians realize that they were taught antisemitism so that it could be used as a tool against themselves. Journalists were the best friends to would-be revolutionaries at that point, and if the guys in power could get the masses to turn on the journalists, what a victory for the fascists.

Whether that was any part of this attack is irrelevant, in my opinion. It would be another example of antisemitism being incidental to the events, if true, and incidental to the reports, if untrue.

Holy shit! This is a libertarian I can agree with. All "fiscal hawks" should read it.

Is inflation out of control? No, not even close. Are our creditors closing our accounts? No, because our creditors know that all we need to do to pay them off is raise taxes or get out of this recession. When growth picks back up deficits will shrink. The deficit is not a problem in the first place. The whole thing is just a ruse.

Meanwhile, unemployment remains sky-high and so do corporate profits. Everything is rosy except for the American worker, and to them fiscal conservatives and pundits like Sullivan say “Austerity Now” like some grotesque mimicry of that Seinfeld episode. All the hand-wringing over structural unemployment and so forth is just cover for supply-side nonsense that’s captured the American psyche from pundit and politician on down. What we are witnessing is a balance-sheet recession and a crisis of demand. Or at least that’s what all the evidence and data points to.

re: #88 Decatur Deb

From the AP:

"The win by Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates was a switch from where the House stood last year under Democratic control. It reflected a sustained administration push to win over the votes of scores of Republican freshmen elected last fall on campaign promises to cut the budget.

Many taxpayer watchdog groups also weighed in against the engine program, slated to cost $3 billion over the next few years and $450 million this year alone.

The 233-198 tally was a loss for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, whose state reaps about 1,000 jobs from the engine program, built by the General Electric Co. and Rolls-Royce.

It was a big victory for lawmakers from Democrat-dominated Connecticut, where the main F-35 fighter engine is built by Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp. Former President George W. Bush had also tried to kill the second engine.

The showdown vote came just hours after Gates and Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen testified against the alternative engine before the Armed Services Committee, which has repeatedly backed it.

"I've been doing money a long time, I can't make sense out of a second engine," Mullen said."

I don't know exactly what Israeli politicians are doing by even giving this creep the time of day, but I would have hoped that politicians there would have the sense to shun him. Israel: Iran Sending Warships Through Canal

"JERUSALEM—Iran is sending two warships through the Suez Canal en route to Syria, Israel's foreign minister said Wednesday, calling the act a "provocation" that Israel cannot ignore.

The Iranian plan described by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman would take the warships past Israel's coast. While it would pose no significant military threat to Israel, he said that such a close encounter between forces of the two countries had not occurred in many years.

"Tonight, two Iranian warships are meant to pass through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea and reach Syria," Mr. Lieberman told a group of Jewish leaders in closed-door remarks that a government spokesman later confirmed. The minister said the plan "proves that the self confidence and cheek of the Iranians is growing from day-to-day" following the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak in Egypt.

"To my regret, the international community is not showing readiness to deal with the recurring Iranian provocations," he added. "The international community must understand that Israel cannot forever ignore these provocations."

Rep. Betty Reed, D-Tampa, said she was offended by the remark, but did not protest at the time because she said it was more important to have a productive dialogue with the new governor.

Afterward, she said, “He assumed that everyone [in the room] was poor and that can only be because you’re black.”

Rep. Joe Gibbons, D-Hallandale Beach, said Scott’s choice of words was unfortunate even if he was trying to “empathize” with the black caucus.

Libyan police stations torched

Hundreds of protesters have reportedly torched Libyan police outposts in the eastern city of Beyida, while chanting: "People want the end of the regime."

"All the people of Beyida are out on the streets," said 25-year-old Rabie al-Messrati, who said he had been arrested after spreading a call for protests on Facebook.

Online calls of dissent have been growing rapidly over the past few days, with Facebook groups calling for "Uprising on February 17" doubling in popularity between Monday and Wednesday.

In the southern city of Zentan, 120km south of Tripoli, hundreds of people marched through the streets and set fire to security headquarters and a police station, then set up tents in the heart of the town, as a wave of unrest spread south and westwards across the country.

Activists had earlier clashed with government supporters and police, who reportedly shot rubber-coated steel bullets and used water cannon in Benghazi city.

Demonstrators gathered in the early hours of Wednesday morning in front of Benghazi's police headquarters and chanted slogans against the "corrupt rulers of the country", Al Jazeera's sources said.

Chants including "No God but Allah, Muammar is the enemy of Allah," can be heard on videos of demonstrations uploaded to YouTube. Independent confirmation was not possible as Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's administration keeps tight control over the movements of media personnel.

Dim Jim once again lives up to his nickname, proving that he knows nothing about the person he is deriding and couldn't be bothered to take three minutes to find out. It also demonstrates that somewhere in the mass of smegma that passes for his brain, it is more tolerable to rape a liberal woman than a conservative one.

The 60 Minutes site has a very terse statement about this and then ends by saying they will not be commenting on this and they would that Ms Logan's privacy be respected. I couldn't agree more and further I suppose that 60 Minutes will be observing the same for others they are investigating who request that their privacy be respected.

South Dakota welcomes population increase

The new data, which was submitted to Gov. Dennis Daugaard, a Republican, and state legislature Wednesday, are likely to be welcome news.

"Population's a serious issue here," says Kenneth Blanchard, professor of political science at Northern State University in Aberdeen. "We used to have two seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, but we lost one after the last Census. It wasn't because we were losing population, it was because we were growing really slowly and the rest of the country was growing really fast."

You know, I've BEEN to South Dakota. Rather recently.

I didn't find a lot to attract me to stay for more than a visit. Lovely geography, but, it was hot and dry in the summer. I imagine it is cold in the winter.

I couldn't for the life of me figure-out why someone would go thru that terrain on a horse way back when. The praire-dog holes alone would be treacherous for the horse. Then my husband reminded me there was some gold to be had.

I'm not surprised there is a declining population. I don't even think there was a decent mall in the whole state. I did find an authentic Israeli restaurant that was worth driving all the way from Chicago to dine in.

One of the things I find particulary offensive about the Whacko Christians is that they seem to have a real twisted sense of their "duty" as Christians.

They separate the world into those who "have been saved" and those that "need to be saved".

While doing so, they take the soul that Christian says we all have, from both sides of the coin and therefore, objectify everyone.

A possibility, sure, yes. Rape can serve many purposes: Lust, vengance, power, war... Americans are often seen as Jews, or representatives of Jews, in this region.

Anyway, this incident was not a result of a sudden collective euphoria-generated horniness that needed a random outlet, I think.

I consider rape to be slavery.

You'd think that a (I assume, "Christian") man might want to discourage rape by also pointing out what it does to the soul of the rapist. I couldn't imagine having to make amends or forgive myself for committing such a crime.

Focusing on the women, like in prostitution or absentee fathers, takes all the attention from the man. The societal blame goes to the woman.

It's not, particularly. If it's true, it illustrates the particular bigotries of the region, but we knew about those.

A white friend of mine was once addressed as 'n***** bitch' by a man who pistol-whipped her and robbed the theater she was working at. It wasn't relevent to the crime, but it did provide some insight into the innner workings of his head.

re: #66 wrenchwench

IIRC, some guys from Aftonbladet were roughed up by people who said they were Mossad agents.

Thank you, Jim Hoft, for perpetrating the notion that rape 'ruins' women, and letting Lara Logan in on the scoop about her recovery.

What a tool.

Without dismissing the trauma of rape at all, I'm always amazed by the way rape is supposed to be worse than absolutely anything else that could happen to you.

There was a woman Army pilot shot down, I think, during the First Gulf War, and eventually retrieved. In an interview in 2003, she said that an interviewer finally had the guts to ask her if she'd been sexually assaulted while she was being held by the Iraqis. She said yes, but added that at the time she had two broken arms, and wasn't sure if her navigator was dead, so those things had been more traumatic and more on her mind.

IIRC, she said they seemed frustrated with the answer. The sexual attack was supposed to be the WORST PART.

More seriously, I recently read some of the malleus maleficarum and it read like something straight out of 40k, it was rather disturbing how closely GW's fluff matches historical precedent.

Nothing weird about it. They borrow shamelessy for back story.

The name of the Night Lord Primarch, Konrad Curze, is a combination of Joseph Conrad and his famous work Heart of Darkness, of which Kurtz is a central character. The Night Lords' homeworld of Nostramo is also named after another of Conrad's books, Nostromo. His assassin was named M'Shen, who they admitted was short for Martin Sheen, for his role in Apocalypse Now.

Then we have the grenade called "The Holy Orb of Antioch".

re: #65 Charles

Charles -
It wouldn't surprise me if it is true they were yelling anti Jew slurs...
But what I was thinking when I heard this story was she was unfortunately likely more than just 'sexually accosted'....
They hushed the story up for days -
They say she's been in the hospital for several days
That a group of people had to finally come in and save her...

ALL THOSE point to something unfortunately a lot worse than the 'official' vague description intimates.
And we'll probably never know the truth since they're never going to get the thugs who did it so she'll want to keep private the details of what actually happened....

It reminds me of when Elizabeth Smart was first found and rescued they never said that she was raped let alone repeatedly... only years later when she testified at the trial did it come out....

My favorite has to be Inquisitor Lord Fyodor Karamazov.

Is he supposed to be a telepath, or is it just "The Imperial Authorities can never be wrong!" BS?

Strict Amalathian. If you weren't guilty, you wouldn't have been called before the Inquisition.

No indeed, it's not a new low. That would give them credit for having previously had the decency or at least restraint as opposed to simply not having the convenience of an opportunity.

These are just bad people.

New low? Repulsive?
Here's a new, repulsive low for you... and it was, until a little while ago, teaching law at NYU. In fact, it was a Dept. Chair.
Thank God and Greyhound, he's gone.
And the now-ED, Karen Greenberg, refers to him quaintly as ' always provocative '.
Yeah.

Whether or not the savages yelled "Jew" or not, this incident is still disgusting and disturbing. I hope no one here wishes this on anyone.......even their political enemies. Ya hear?

Like I said the "attack" is sadly probably a lot worse than a "sexual assault".... and is being under reported on details and description out of respect for Logan's privacy now... though it looks like at first bcs it would have defeated the narrative from Tahir Square....

20-30 minutes by a mob of some 200 men - she's been in the hospital for days now - and now described by CBS as a a 'brutal' attack...

Graham adds in some commentary on the culture which some may or may not like however as far as the attack I think the article shows the painting of the story is sadly probably a lot worse than we would have hoped....

[Link: www.bostonherald.com...]

“[60 Minutes] correspondent Lara Logan was repeatedly sexually assaulted by thugs yelling, ‘Jew! Jew!’ as she covered the chaotic fall of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo’s main square Friday.”

And it was The Wall Street Journal that reported “the separation and assault lasted roughly 20 to 30 minutes.”

Only when other media had the story did CBS break the news that its own chief foreign correspondent was the victim of “a brutal and sustained sexual assault.”

Five days of silence — not even “60 Minutes” coverage of the Egypt story. No mention of the "mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy” who attacked their own reporter.

But I’m with liberal columnist Richard Cohen of The Washington Post:

“The sexual assault of a woman in the middle of a public square is a story  . . .  particularly because the crowd in Tahrir Square was almost invariably characterized as friendly and out for nothing but democracy,” Cohen wrote.

Watching the same complicit media we all saw, Cohen notes most journalists covered the mobs “as if they were reporting from Times Square on New Year’s Eve, stopping only at putting on a party hat.”

Even CBS’s own statement said Logan was “covering the jubilation” and was attacked “amidst the celebration.”

Having 200 “good guys” gang assault a female reporter while screaming “Jew! Jew!” doesn’t fit the narrative. Is that why CBS sat on the story?

Larimore wonders if “Logan’s attack [is] an anomaly, or is it to be expected from men raised in a culture that treats women as lesser citizens?”

I would point her to the 2008 broadcast on the Al-Aribiya network of a female (!) lawyer arguing that it’s OK for Muslim men to sexually assault Israeli women, because the Jews have “raped the land.” Or this week’s story of Hena, the 14-year-old Bangladeshi girl raped by a family member, then sentenced to 100 lashes by Muslim authorities for having sex out of wedlock. After 80 lashes, Hena died.
