Madison Police Chief on Walker’s Phone Comments: ‘Unsettling and Troubling’

Gov. Walker admitted he ‘thought about’ planting troublemakers
Politics • Views: 34,979

Madison police chief Noble Wray said today that Governor Scott Walker’s statements about planting troublemakers among Wisconsin pro-union protesters were “very unsettling and troubling.”

Wray said he was disturbed that Walker thought about planting troublemakers among peaceful protesters.

“I would like to hear more of an explanation from Governor Walker as to what exactly was being considered, and to what degree it was discussed by his cabinet members. I find it very unsettling and troubling that anyone would consider creating safety risks for our citizens and law enforcement officers,” the chief said.

“Our department works hard dialoging with those who are exercising their First Amendment right, those from both sides of the issue, to make sure we are doing everything we can to ensure they can demonstrate safely. I am concerned that anyone would try to undermine these relationships. I have a responsibility to the community, and to the men and women of this department - who are working long hours protecting and serving this community – to find out more about what was being considered by state leaders.”

Just maybe this incident could instigate an official investigation (felony anyone?) or at least a solid recall effort. The “dump the thug” campaign.

In Walker’s mind, he’s still right. Time to interview the missus and ask the question people really want answered: How do you sleep with this guy?

6 William of Orange  Thu, Feb 24, 2011 2:27:55pm

I see his dilemma. On one side he sympathizes with the demonstrators against Walker’s draconian measures. On the other hand, he is his boss in the line of ranks. It would create a massive constitutional mess if he ignores the orders of the governor. Next step would be that maybe the homeland security intervening or possibly President Obama.

I would love to see what Walker’s explanation will be on the contents of the phone call. Could he be arrested for inciting violence?

Oh, and a little bit about Buckethead:

Buckethead was born in 1969 with the name of Brian Carroll. He is an American guitarist who is known for wearing a plastic mask and KFC Bucket on his head while performing. His style of music is very diverse from thrash metal, funk, electronica, and jazz. He is best known for playing guitar, but plays many instruments such as Bass guitar, banjo, ukelele, piano, keyboard, and drums. Buckethead has worked with many famous music artists such as Bootsy Collins, Les Claypool, Guns n’ Roses, Bernie Worrell, Iggy Pop, Serj Tankian, Saul Williams, Viggo Mortensen and Bill Laswell. He has also wrote music for some major movie productions such as Saw II, Mortal Kombat, and even created the Power Rangers Theme Song for the Power Rangers Movie.

Conservatives vow to make gay marriage 2012 issue

Angered conservatives are vowing to make same-sex marriage a front-burner election issue, nationally and in the states, following the Obama administration’s announcement that it will no longer defend the federal law denying recognition to gay married couples.

“The ripple effect nationwide will be to galvanize supporters of marriage,” said staff counsel Jim Campbell of Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative legal group.

On the federal level, opponents of same-sex marriage urged Republican leaders in the House of Representatives to intervene on their own to defend the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, against pending court challenges.

“The president has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging Congress,” said Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council. “It is incumbent upon the Republican leadership to respond by intervening to defend DOMA, or they will become complicit in the president’s neglect of duty.”

Conservatives also said they would now expect the eventual 2012 GOP presidential nominee to highlight the marriage debate as part of a challenge to Obama, putting the issue on equal footing with the economy.

Well for what’s it worth. Yes, they thought about it (instigators/rabble rousers, what ever) to cause a violent incident. But in the end, the Gov. decided it wasn’t worth the problems it would create and even turned down the idea when it was broached by the fake Koch.

At least some semblance of sanity prevailed. For that I think we (as a collective) can be thankful.

I’m beginning to notice a serious hint of desperation in the Right’s ranks. I think that this call may end up being the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back. There is just so much wrong in it, getting past the fact that a governor who can’t spare time to talk with unions leaders can spend 20 minutes gabbing with a Kansas oil tycoon, that simply can’t be explained away. They’re trying to parse his words, trying to argue that he’s “right,” even trying to argue that the reporter “failed” to catch him in a bad situation.

Like The Colonel, Walker is making all the wrong moves, turning allies into enemies that are only helping the ranks of those who want him gone to swell. It’s only a matter of time before his buddies in the legislature realize they’re on a sinking ship and start bailing.

I went to the link Charles posted regarding the Chief of Police.

The comments section looked like something close to Fox nation rather than Wisconsin.
Surprising (to me) how many posters were so ugly against the chief.

JSonline is a sewer and Madison.com isn’t much better. No moderator so no moderation in the posters.

Point of interest - the Fox River Valley was infested with extremist carpetbaggers who came north after the Civil War. They’ve been at the forefrontt of the battle against progress ever since.

Critics Call Obama DOMA Decision an Executive Power Grab

President Obama’s decision to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act in federal court has sparked a flurry of debate over whether the move signals a dangerous power grab by the executive branch.

“The president is replacing the rule of law with the rule of Obama,” said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. “The president swore an oath on the Bible to ensure that the laws be faithfully executed, not to decide which laws are and which are not constitutional.”

Newt, you are the last mother fucker on earth to talk about anyone not living up to swearing an oath. Does “For better or worse” ring a bell after the third time hearing it?

No it is not a power grab.

Refusing to defend a law after your lawyers have said it is unconstitutional is exactly the right play.

This does not mean it is no longer a law, it must still be followed, and if it is challenged it may be defended by someone besides the White House.

Good. This isn’t ‘04 anymore.

Yeah, the older (and more old-fashioned) that Republicans get, the more young people who grew up/have friends that are gay and wonder WTF the big deal is will become 18 and can vote for open-minded candidates.

Open-mindedness is the anti-thesis of the Republican political establishment at the moment.

124 Obdicut  Thu, Feb 24, 2011 3:21:00pm

re: #120 Walter L. Newton

And since you apparently can’t be bothered to look what the President actually swears, it’s this:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

So if you’re asking about this part:

The president swore an oath on the Bible to ensure that the laws be faithfully executed, not to decide which laws are and which are not constitutional

Yes, that’s also wrong. Obama did not swear to ensure that the laws be faithfully executed.
