Mike Huckabee and Bryan Fischer: Obama is ‘Fundamentally Anti-American’

Huckabee does damage control by appearing on the radio show of the religious right’s most crazed fanatic
Wingnuts • Views: 32,717

Mike Huckabee is desperately trying to spin away his remarks about President Obama “growing up in Kenya,” saying he misspoke — even though he also referenced the Mau Mau uprising, in a lengthy story about Barack Obama’s anti-American upbringing.

So who does Mike Huckabee turn to when he wants to get the message out? The American Family Association’s most deranged homophobic religious fanatic, Bryan Fischer, of course! Huckabee called in to Fischer’s radio show today, railing at the media for reporting his racist dog whistle statements, and agreeing with Fischer that regardless of where he grew up, whether it was Africa or some other furrin land full of dark people, Obama definitely has “fundamentally anti-American” ideas.

Wow, Mike. Not even trying to hide it, are you?

And Huckabee is not the first potential GOP presidential candidate to go on the radio show of this far right crackpot: Tim Pawlenty Gives Interview to Religious Right’s Most Crazed Fanatic: Wants to Reinstate DADT.

Let's hope it affects Huckabee the same way that did Allen.

So this guy Fischer has his own radio show, too? Is there any rightwinger without his or her own radio show?

Otherwise, the rightwing sure is shut out of the media world, aren't they?

See, the thing is, we rational folks see this as Huck shooting off his foot. To the irrational folks, the ones whole have spent the past two years steeping in anti-Obama rhetoric, this is a breath of fresh air. A GOP candidate who thinks like they do! And has the courage to say it out loud! Hallelujah!

Obama is so Anti-American that he lowered the flags in the government for Frank Buckles. Seriously, who are Fischer and Huckabee to say this? Okay, you don't have to like his policies but calling him anti-American is nonsense and pathetic. It seems like all the major Republican candidates for president want to do outdo each other in most pathetic critiques of Obama. Can't wait to hear that he's really a space alien out to destroy Earth. Come on assholes, I dare ya!

One thing is for sure, I do not want to ever hear again about "how mean liberals and democrats were to President Bush." Never.

37 Summer Seale  Wed, Mar 2, 2011 2:20:05pm

Well, I remember when Obama returned the bust of Winston Churchill, and I admit to being a bit annoyed at that at first. After all, as Harry Truman once told David Brinkley while they were all playing cards: "I don't want you to win against the man who singlehandedly saved the world with his oratory skills" (paraphrasing here).

Howevere, once I learned why he had returned it, the history involved in his family, I did understand. I actually have lots of problems with how the British Empire handled some things (you can include India/Pakistan and how they handled the "Palestinian problem", including letting Jews die whenever convenient etc....sorry to say, and I'm definitely not a rabid anti-British person by any stretch).

That point of view isn't anti-American; it's anti-Colonialist. I wasn't aware, however, that Mike Huckabee thinks that we had a colonialist past in the last century. I don't remember ever reading that British Colonialism had anything to do with our own "Americanism", so I'm not exactly sure how being anti-Colonial equates being anti-American. Just for that alone, he's a moron.

Now I'm far more shocked that some people think that Obama's anti-Colonialist views equate to being anti-American than I ever was at his returning the bust of P.M. Churchill.

At least his point of view makes sense on a personal level. Huckabee's point of view doesn't even jive with history or logic.

Resolution Passed To Fine Absent Wis Senators

The 14 Wisconsin state Senate Democrats who left the state two weeks ago will now face fines of $100 for each day they miss, if they miss two or more days.

Republicans remaining in the Senate approved the daily fine on Wednesday morning with none of the Democrats present.
...
The resolution passed on Wednesday also requires the missing Democrats to reimburse the Senate for any costs incurred during attempts to force them to return. Their salary and other per diem payments can be withheld until they pay back the penalties and costs.

Republicans have already withheld the checks of missing Democrats from direct deposit and denied access to copying machines for their staff.

According to TODAY'S TMJ4's Mick Trevey, there are punishments incorporated into the resolution which would allow for the removal of offices from senators, to downsize their offices, to take away spending capabilities for their offices for photocopies and office supplies, even to changing the way the staffs are run.

If Wisconsin Senators are anywhere as poorly payed as the Senators in my state, that could get prohibitively expensive really fast.

Yep nothing ;). Really is a shame that they pander to this nonsense since that's what this is. I don't doubt for a second that Huckabee, Gingrich, and the others know Obama is as American as the next person but they know they can't appeal to their base by simply criticizing policy. They have to throw the red meat out there and sadly it will probably work.

44 palomino  Wed, Mar 2, 2011 2:23:01pm

In 2008 Huckabee packaged himself as a compassionate conservative, kinda like Bush in 2000. He often said, "I'm a conservative, but I'm not angry about it," in order to distance himself from the firebreathers on the right.

But now there's a TP and Huck knows this isn't what they want to hear. So now he's trying to sound like Gingrich, Palin, et al., as he figures he's gonna have to beat people like that to get the nod. If he's not running, then he's just doing early proxy work to further smear Obama. Sick either way.

Fuck Huck.

This is getting downright vindictive, if not an outright abuse of power. They can call it what they like, but this has ceased being about the budget and has become about enforcing "majority rule" by any means possible.

Can you imagine the uproar if the Dems on the federal level had pulled a similar stunt in response to Repub filibusters?

You know what I find really idiotic about the GOP right now?

Well, besides the anit-abortion, sharia law, birth certificate, union busting craziness?

The fact that they apparently employ the stupidest political strategists on the face of the planet. They are allegedly obsessed with retaking the White House in 2012. Any idiot with half a brain knows you can't win the White House with far right religious conservatives as your only voting bloc, but apparently the GOP thinks otherwise because they are doing a hell of a job alienating just about anyone who isn't part of that group.

I don't think Huckabee, Gingrich, Romney, Santorum or Palin have a chance in hell for 2012 the way they are going. Check your calendars boys, 2012 is not far off, you need to get your shit together now if you want a solid shot at Obama.

Honestly I think all the top GOP candidates for President have damaged themselves too much with the controversial statements and Tea Party pandering to click with a wider audience.

The only for Republicans is to find a moderate leaning candidate who can click with Tea Party voters. Sadly, I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

And the stupidest thing of all? When the Republicans fail to retake the White House in 2012, they will blame anything and anyone except themselves for the failure.

Pretty much. Only now they'll add more "SOROS ZOMG!" and talk about how refusing to defend DOMA is treason and grounds for impeachment.

Never mind jobs or the economy or anything that's actually, you know, relevant to people. It's all about how the POTUS is a Scary Black Man with a funny name and who threatens their version of White Real America.

The only for Republicans is to find a moderate leaning candidate who can click with Tea Party voters. Sadly, I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

You might as well be asking for them to find a unicorn that farts glitter and rainbows. Never happen. Ever.

A moderate leaning candidate would be a sellout and a RINO to the teabaggers, and an acceptable candidate for the Tea Party would alienate everyone else because of all the crazy things they'd say and do.

re: #74 dragonfire1981

Came here to say this. How did the "He's not one of us" strategy work out in 2008? You think its going to work after he's got 4 years of being (a moderately successful) President under his belt?

The only option is to put one of both on the ticket, a "moderate RINO" candidate who can appeal to the independents while bringing a Tea Partier on to bring the far-right to vote. Problem is, not is it essentially a rehash of '08, but it's going to cause a lot of friction between the leadership and the Tea Party over which should lead and which should follow.

Sec. 3101.01 of S.B. 5: ... A marriage may only be entered into by one man and one woman. Any marriage between persons of the same sex is against the strong public policy of this state. Any marriage between persons of the same sex shall have no legal force or effect in this state and, if attempted to be entered into in this state, is void ab initio and shall not be recognized by this state. The recognition or extension by the state of the specific statutory benefits of a legal marriage to non-marital relationships between persons of the same sex or different sexes is against the strong public policy of this state. Any public act, record or judicial proceeding of this state, as defined in section 9.82 of the Revised Code, that extends the specific statutory benefits of legal marriage to non-marital relationships between persons of the same sex or different sexes is void.

There they go again. The same old right wing anti-colonial meme and talking about the Kenyans fighting against British colonialism. What in fucking hell do they think the Revolutionary War was about? It was to kick out, for good, the British colonialists that wanted to make future Americans subjects to the king and queen and make the 13 colonies another British colony and state. The 2nd Amendment was written with the British in mind. The Star Spangled Banner is about our war against our own experience of British colonialism. When they spoke of "the tree of liberty" they had the Red Coats in mind.

Huck's not a recent dabbler in wingnuttery. He's been a theocrat nutjob from the start. He just happens to be reasonably likable, which makes people blind to his extremism.

Honestly, the best thing for the GOP is to nominate a teabagger and get resoundingly curbstomped in 2012. One of two things will happen after that-- either the party will finally formally split between the moderate/reasonable conservatives and the teabaggers/theocrats, or there will be some attempt at returning to sanity, with the religious bullshit finally pushed to the back burner.

Heh.

Wingnuts have a short memory. Here they are carrying around flags with "The Tree of Liberty" yet to they really understand the origin? Or even Gadsen's flag:

In fall 1775, the United States Navy was established to intercept incoming British ships carrying war supplies to the British troops in the colonies. To aid in this, the Second Continental Congress authorized the mustering of five companies of Marines to accompany the Navy on their first mission. The first Marines that enlisted were from Philadelphia and they carried drums painted yellow, depicting a coiled rattlesnake with thirteen rattles, and the motto "Don't Tread On Me." This is the first recorded mention of the future Gadsden flag's symbolism.

Colonies. Colonies with regards to British colonialism. But I wouldn't be surprised to see the typical historical revisionism even with the state of things before and during the Revolutionary War. Especially given their revisionist view of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.

They're morons. It's VERY difficult to unseat an incumbent president no matter how much the opposition might hate him.

Those people have convinced themselves that Obama will be easy to beat, and that he's a black Jimmy Carter. They have no sense of perspective, and they don't even know how to properly read Obama if that's what they think.

125 Achilles Tang  Wed, Mar 2, 2011 4:27:33pm

Perhaps I've missed this, but I keep waiting for something to hit the fan regarding Governor Walker's ban on any city/county deciding to make up any shortfall in state revenue through local taxes.

I thought this would be much bigger than a simple union busting issue.

How do do Republicans think they are opposed to anyone being forced to pay for anything they don't want, and then deny anyone the right to pay for what they might want?

126 Renaissance_Man  Wed, Mar 2, 2011 4:40:45pm

I think the idea that the Conservative cult media is torpedoing any chances of a Republican President in 2012 is premature.

Yes, far-right fundies make up a minority of the electorate. Yes, screwing unions and a majority of working-class people in general should turn them against you. Yes, incumbents are hard to unseat, especially when centrist and reasonable.

But do not underestimate the power of hate. Seriously, follow cult media just for a bit. Watch FOX, listen to the radio when you're not watching, read the blogs when you're not listening. That's what their followers do. And it is an endless barrage of hate. An assault of sound and fury that is so immersive, so disorienting, and so unceasing that the human psyche will wither and blow away before long. Hate liberals, hate Obama, hate foreigners, hate others, hate them, hate hate hate. And it is addictive beyond measure. No matter how hard you shaft someone, if you can make them hate the other guy more, they will happily vote against their best interests time and again. And they will thank you for hurting them, and making them vote against their best interests, because the single most important thing to them is how much they hate.

No, not every Republican voter will be a hate cultist. But it's not just about making the majority into cultists - that's not possible. It's about repetition, and having hate trickle into the public sphere. I have not talked to anyone in a long while who does not believe at least one of the cultie lies. They may not believe in most of them, but they always believe at least one. And in the American political system, it's not about winning a majority. It's about having your people so monomanic that they show up, and ensuring that everyone else is ambivalent enough not to show. You don't have to become a cultist to not vote. You just have to be ambivalent, and comfortable, and have doubts because of whatever lie you heard.

The best hope is that FOX and the cult media don't really seek political power - that it's not part of their calculus. Because there is definite benefit to them to have an angry, disenfranchised cult base, and thus losing in 2012 may be their preference. The media is the most powerful element in America, bar none. And these days, the entire media narrative is driven by the cult media. Scoff at this at your peril.

On the button. And on every radio dial at some time of the day. Non stop. Look at who buys advert space here. Charles gladly takes the money, but the message is everywhere. Hell, you have people who resent the fact that someone, somewhere makes more money than them, but gives a free pass to the corporate debauchery that passes for business practice. Just like Sharron Angles' attack on government health care and the bitch has it along with hubby.
I never got the impression that Huckabee was anything more that the rest of the pack. McCain ain't a maverick and Huck ain't no better than the rest of the loons. If Newt still makes money, what does that tell you? Even after standing with these racists nothing sticks?
