Fox Nation: Democrats Politicize Tsunami
The GOP budget plan that passed through the House last month aimed to cut funding for a tsunami warning center that issued a slew of warnings around Japan's devastating earthquake...
The Republican's proposed "continuing resolution" to fund the government, which was defeated in the Senate this week, aimed to cut $1.2 billion - or 21 percent - of President Obama's proposed budget for NOAA, ClimateProgress.org reports.
In an interview with Hawaii's Star Advertiser last month, Barry Hirshorn, Pacific region chairman of the National Weather Service Employees Organization, warned that the proposed budget cuts could result in the loss of lives.
"People could die. ... It could be serious," he said, noting that Weather Service employees and employees of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center could be hit with furloughs and closures.

I'm sure it is, but that's not our problem...we expect elected officials to serve us with honesty and principle....the fact that so few do infuriates me to no end....hence 'I hate the feds' and all the rest of the govt leeches....our money is hard earned amigo, dis the voters and you can take you gay ass, or anti-gay ass and get off our payroll

Tsunamis? Who put them there? You think the shifting plates did that? You see, these liberals do this all the time.
How did the ocean get there? I mean, this is the oceans we're talking about. One doesn't just fill the oceans on earth like a loofah on a showerhead. How come we have that, and Mars doesn't have it? Venus doesn't have it?

Talked to my wife. She watched the tsunami from the dining room. It hit around low tide, and she said it suddenly looked like high tide on a storm day (waves cresting over the jetty) and then went back to low tide a few minutes later. Crescent City and Santa Cruz weren't so lucky, apparently.

Japan quake causes emergencies at 5 nuke reactors
Japan declared states of emergency for five nuclear reactors at two power plants after the units lost cooling ability in the aftermath of Friday's powerful earthquake. Thousands of residents were evacuated as workers struggled to get the reactors under control to prevent meltdowns.
A single reactor in northeastern Japan had been the focus of much of the concern in the initial hours after the 8.9 magnitude quake, but the government declared new states of emergency at four other reactors in the area Saturday morning.

Kona got nailed in a few spots with good 6 foot waves. Not a large scale general inundation that destroyed buildings. We got pretty lucky. There's lots of sand and rocks on the streets and some places needing serious repair.
I'm not sure of homes on Alii but I'm sure some of them got jacked pretty good. Nothing like Japan though.

Yes, Bubba Gump is about a 10 minute walk away. They got nailed pretty good and will have to replace doors/glass and clean up, but the structure is sound. The Wyland gallery is above the garage next to Gumps and seemed to be just above it. The garage was still full of water when I was there this AM.
