Sarah Palin on Why McCain-Palin Lost in 2008: ‘I Wasn’t at the Top of the Ticket’

Palin would’ve won there, you betcha
Politics • Views: 35,906

Sarah Palin’s on one of her rare trips outside the US, and told a reporter for India Today that the reason why the Republican ticket failed to win in 2008 was because she wasn’t at the top.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi, Palin was asked why the GOP ticket did not defeat then-Sen. Barack Obama (D). Palin said that Obama ran a strong campaign and effectively billed himself as a change candidate.

Pressed by India Today editor Aroon Purie that she also represented change, Palin replied, “I wasn’t at the top of the ticket, remember?”

Certainly not lacking in blissful self-confidence, is she? Especially when the truth is that her presence on the ticket was one of the biggest reasons for the GOP’s 2008 defeat.

The 2008 vice presidential nominee said she was not claiming she should have been the nominee over Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.),

So what did she mean?

She might just be testing the waters for a new show: Sarah Palin in India. With over a billion people, that's all untapped market to her.

9 elizajane  Sat, Mar 19, 2011 12:21:40pm

To be fair, George W. Bush was a much bigger reason than she was for the 2008 loss. But if she wants to work on upping her responsibility for Republican losses, she's certainly going about it the right way.

This comment will only further endear her to the Tea Party base of the GOP since they hate McCain anyway.

I confess I watched this freak show from India on a feed this am - and was astonished to see how Palin decried the "big government bailouts" when those of us who pay attention know she and McCain adamantly supported TARP.

I guess its like the Bridge to Nowhere now - history shoved into the memory hole forever - drowned out by her belief in her own lies.

Check the right wing blogs. Obama is either a reckless war monger risking American lives, or not doing enough by letting the French lead, or acted too soon, or too late with too much or too little force. Other than that, they support or don't support the action.

The U.S. military launched its first airstrikes on Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's air defenses, officials said Saturday.
U.S. Tomahawk missiles landed in the area around Tripoli and Misrata, a senior military official said, adding that the action was taken after Gadhafi failed to comply with a cease-fire.

Feb. 22
It’s a little perplexing looking at the White House today. There was a statement on the horrible earthquake in New Zealand, and certainly our hearts go out to all those affected by this horrible natural disaster. But nothing on the slaughter in Libya? The protests in many places in the Middle East affect regimes that have cooperated with the U.S. on issues from peace with Israel, fighting al Qaeda, hosting our military forces, or cooperating against Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Gaddafi’s Libya is different. For four decades, this tyrant has held power. Gaddafi was Osama before Osama hit the scene. He ordered the bombing of a disco in Germany to kill Americans. When he paid the price for that – after President Reagan rightly ordered retaliation – he directed his agents to blow up Pan Am Flight 103. They did, and more than 250 innocent people died. Gaddafi tried to come in from the cold in 2003 – scared by the demonstration effect of Iraq. But we should have no illusions. Gaddafi is a brutal killer and Libya – not to mention the world – would be better off if he were out of power. Now is the time to speak out. Speak out for the long-suffering Libyan people. Speak out for the victims of Gaddafi’s terror. NATO and our allies should look at establishing a no-fly zone so Libyan air forces cannot continue slaughtering the Libyan people. We should not be afraid of freedom, especially when it comes to people suffering under a brutal enemy of America. Here’s to freedom from Gaddafi for the people of Libya.

Well that was painful to read and yes, it was written with no breaks.....

I disagree....there have been many officers switching sides and this is an old fashioned street brawl, not sophisticated at all....fire and maneuver stuff...the rebs can do it and I predict they will prevail now....Libya is all desert, there is no where for Mos people to even gather for a push if they wanted...it's urban and it's ugly but it's just whacking the bad guys when they pop up

To be fair, George W. Bush was a much bigger reason than she was for the 2008 loss. But if she wants to work on upping her responsibility for Republican losses, she's certainly going about it the right way.

Well, yes, but Bush was a much bigger reason because he'd actually served as president for eight years. (I almost typed twelve years, but it just FELT like twelve years.) For Palin to cause the amount of damage she did without actually having to make any choices or carry around any launch codes was impressive.
