Robert Stacy McCain’s 300th Post on My Total Insignificance

Neo-Confederate numbskull still obsessing

“You buy the ticket, you take the ride.”Meanwhile, knuckle-dragging white supremacist blogger Robert Stacy McCain has decided it’s time for his 300th post about how insignificant I am: He Who Hates Attractive GOP Women : The Other McCain. (No link, of course.)

His premise is that because I criticize Michele Bachmann for being a deranged far right loon, that must mean I hate all women — which is just precious coming from someone who once said about victims of date rape, “You buy the ticket, you take the ride.”

Excuse me for reminding you that Charles Johnson is still on the Internet. He hasn’t done anything useful in so long, you might not realize he used to be somebody important.

To prove how pointless and devoid of importance I am, obsessed people like McCain like to take screenshots of my site, then not link to it. So here’s a pointless screenshot of McCain’s pointless screenshot, just to be meta-pointless.

And another tedious inevitability: in the comments for his article there’s some chowderhead impersonating me, probably McCain himself. Just one more indicator of how little they think of me, and what a nobody I am. I’m so meaningless, they have to pretend to be me, in comment after comment after comment.

It’s a pretty sad statement for society when a good number of the children are better behaved than the adults are.

Why, I’m so insignificant that a quote of mine turned up in the Washington Post today. Woe is me.

If you were truly insignificant to them, then they’d not need to post about your insignificance. The absence of you in their posts and articles would prove it all. Too bad they haven’t learned that the more you try to deny things, they more you prove the truth of them.

Blogger Charles Johnson wails, “This is great news for Democrats, of course, because let’s face it — Bachmann is one of the looniest of the loony Republicans. If she runs, she’ll do an excellent job of exposing the GOP for what they are: intolerant, reactionary, ignorant, fanatically religious, and possessed of more than a few loose screws.”

Yeah, gotta love that defense of gals like Palin and Bachmann: “What? You think they’re not presidential material?! You woman hater!” Really, is that the best they got? Because I think both are brain dead bimbos, but thought Hillary Clinton more qualified for the presidency than Obama and would not have hesitated to vote for her had she been the party nominee.

Seriously, for a guy who supposedly hates women, Charles spends a lot of time dragging a spotlight onto the GOP’s war against them. I don’t think I go a week, if that, without seeing a post on this site detailing how the GOP is looking to turn women from free-willed living beings into walking incubators for the next generation of simple-minded, single-issue voters.

Strange, when I wrote that I imagined myself speaking in a very reasonable tone of voice.

Now, “He Who Hates Attractive GOP Women” — that kinda sounds like wailing to me, from a boorish moron whose ox has been gored.

18 Gus  Fri, Mar 25, 2011 5:36:10pm

What does attractive have to do with anything? I can’t believe how stupid wingers are to think that that psycho moron Michelle Bachmann would even stand a chance in the general election. Has nothing to do with her looks.

19 Kronocide  Fri, Mar 25, 2011 5:36:53pm

I think Barret Brown spoofed you CJ:

RSM:

Oftentimes on the blogosphere I experience people through the lens of my own self [interest] in order to get a good look at it projected back to me. Sometimes I find this of great benefit. Certain personalities more tend to inspire this kind of looking than others, it’s fair to say…

Seems like his overly verbose faux intellectualist-ik.

20 Killgore Trout  Fri, Mar 25, 2011 5:38:23pm

I scrolled down RSM’s front page to check out all the racist comments from his readers on a thread about the rising Hispanic population in the US. Unfortunately, he has no readers so there were no comments on the thread. Oh, well.

To rebut RSM (like it’d do any good), if Bachmann is an “attractive GOP wom(an)”, he and his confederates are are shallow and misogynistic as hell. She, like Palin, may be physically attractive somewhat, but their hearts and souls are black as coal and are ugly to the bone. When I look at people to vote for, them being a nice piece of ass (///) isn’t a factor, but their words and deeds sure are.

I will disagree with that. I don’t see either of them as bad or mean people. Palin’s just stupid, I mean really really dumb. Very much not smart. Bachmann is crazy. A loon, a nut. I don’t detect any malice from either of them.

And Janet Reno, Janet Napolitano, Madeline Albright… Plus they notoriously went out and called Democratic Party women as being “ugly” and other childish and stupid thing — almost to the point of having beauty pageants of their own. It’s hard to believe how incredibly stupid wingers are.

I think BigPapa was channelling the misogynistic attitudes of the worst of Conservative male leaders, not suggesting the women themselves have no value unless they follow those conditions.

41 Simply Sarah  Fri, Mar 25, 2011 5:53:34pm

Really, as a woman, this is all very insulting. Why do looks have to come up? I mean, I understand that being easier on the eyes can help the way people view you, but with women running there always seems to be so much focus on how they look. And, personally, the words the come out of Bachmann’s mouth whenever she opens it pretty much make me repulse at the sight of here.

On the more general issue some people have sort of mentioned above…Do I want to support women for office? Of course! Does that mean the sex of the person running is even remotely close to being the most important thing to me? Hell no!

I want to vote for someone that, as best as I can tell, mostly shares my ideals or, at least, seems likely to further my interests and the interests of women and everyone else in the city/state/country/world/etc. You give me an anti-female woman and a pro-female man and the latter is getting my vote every time.

I think what BP was trying to say (and what I did say in reply) is that the wingnuts want and expect women to submit to and accept their “vision” of what American women should be…and I certainly don’t peg you as being like that. I take you as a strong woman that knows and works for what you want; the current TPGOP hacks are working against that and I hope that it pisses you off, because it does me.

Bachmann’s Former Chief Of Staff: I’m Voting For Tim Pawlenty

In February, Carey also stated that “even if [Bachmann] were elected I don’t believe she would be ready for the position of the president of the United States.” Certainly not the ringing endorsement a lawmaker might expect from her own staff. Alas, for Carney, Pawlenty provides the “sharp,” “likable,” “humble,” “main street” qualifications needed for the presidency. Bachmann, however, did provide employment.

If Palin and Bachmann weren’t attractive we wouldn’t know who either of them are. Congresswomen Jean Shmitt and Virgina Foxx say the same kinds of things that Palin and Bachmann say, but they aren’t on TV all of the time or beloved by the right. Michelle Malkin is on TV a lot more often than K Lo is. GOP women can’t get any airtime or attention if they aren’t attractive. The far right is not only sexist, it’s lookist. If you aren’t causing starbursts, you don’t have much chance of being a conservative pundit or political icon.

It wasn’t always so:

RSM seems to equate good looking with attractive.

I will admit that MB does not look like Janet Reno. Janet Reno is not good looking. At the same time, I would love to sit down with her and talk nuance in prosecution law. In that, I find her attractive.

MB is undoubtedly good looking. But I have heard what she has said and don’t find her attractive in any way, shape, or form.

It would certainly appear so.

Just a reminder.

Susan Harris’s voice grows hoarse with emotion when she discusses last year’s BP oil spill and the Upper Big Branch mine disaster, two of the biggest industrial accidents in the nation’s history. But the 62-year-old artist from Los Angeles gets even more passionate expressing her disappointment that the two incidents have not prompted more safety rules, instead lost amid a backlash against government regulations to protect worker safety and health.
“How do people become so hard? It’s disgusting,” she says. “What are our priorities as a country? It’s really ironic that this is happening right now on the anniversary of the fire.”
Harris is referring to Friday’s 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire, in which 146 workers, mainly young immigrant women, were burned to death or jumped to their deaths. The workplace tragedy, which was caused by dramatically unsafe conditions and blocked exits, inspired dozens of reforms, later helping pave the way for the New Deal, and invigorated the union movement.

Yeah I mean 9/10 with a no fly list was an easy choice for me just because it would have actually, you know, saved American Lives which is something anyone could get behind.

My Liberal one is…

You are a Reality-Based Intellectualist, also known as the liberal elite. You are a proud member of what’s known as the reality-based community, where science, reason, and non-Jesus-based thought reign supreme.

My Conservative is:

You are a Free Marketeer, also known as a fiscal conservative. You believe in free-market capitalism, tax cuts, and protecting your hard-earned cash from pick-pocketing liberal socialists.

First one, yes. Second one, given the choices, at least I came down as reasonably smart.

“Anti-government Militias who will rise up against the imagined tyranny of their elected representational government.”

Because you know… those are the guys who I ACTUALLY AM afraid of at least TRYING to start a second civil war….

I’ll be honest, in some ways, I think 9/11 was a needed wake-up call for this country. All too often, it seems that it takes great tragedies for folks to wake up and take notice, to give them a kick in the posterior, so to speak. I can’t help but think that, had even half the 19 hijackers been caught that day, folks would have initially been shocked at how close we came to such horror…and then a few weeks later gone back to business as usual. I base that on the previous attempt on the WTC, whose failure was met with initial shock and then complacency when those involved either were caught or put on wanted posters.

Here’s another

Democratic Loyalty Quiz

Moi?

Your score is 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. You are a pure, unabashed, die-hard Democratic loyalist. You are appalled by the way Republicans are turning America into a theocratic, corpo-fascist police state, and you’d gladly walk through a furnace in a gasoline suit to elect a Democratic president. In your view, there is no higher form of patriotism than defending America against the Republican Party and every intolerant, puritanical, imperialistic, greed-mongering, Constitution-shredding ideal for which it stands.

LOL, story I will share.

Date at Gainesville’s Lake Wauburg.

Welcome to Lake Wauburg. Located eight miles south of campus on Highway 441, Lake Wauburg North Park and South Shore offers UF students, faculty and staff a place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. Many activities are available including boating, swimming, volleyball, team development course, climbing wall and more. Admission and activities are free with a Gator 1 Card. A Gator 1 Cardholder may bring up to four guests.

On the canoe, all sweet and fine. Till we tip over. There are two gators in the water close by, they go under, and I freak. My date (I’ll never forget this) is saying to me, ‘CALM DOWN, CALM DOWN’ We lived.

LOL, story I will share.

Date at Gainesville’s Lake Wauburg.

On the canoe, all sweet and fine. Till we tip over. There are two gators in the water close by, they go under, and I freak. My date (I’ll never forget this) is saying to me, ‘CALM DOWN, CALM DOWN’ We lived.

They have cobras on golf courses in Kuala Lumpur.. You talk about a effen hazard! And if that isn’t bad enough..You turn around and a monkey will climb down from a tree and steal a golf club..Bastards!

Before I go to bed, I wanted to note:

The bill in the New York State legislature that would give protections to freelancer workers for lost wages— basically, being able to submit a claim to the labor board rather than having to sue the employer— is moving forwards with bipartisan support. We have Republican and Democrat co-sponsors, and we’re getting more every day.

I’ve been volunteering with the Freelancer’s Union, going to meetings with State senator’s staff, and stuff like that helping to get this passed. It’s been interesting, fun, and I’ve met some nifty people.

So for those of you who think the country is going to hell in a handbasket: get involved. Join a group, go to your town meetings, volunteer with a non-profit, throw your weight in and fight for what you believe. It’s time.

I have a friend who is one of those that shouldn’t be allowed around tools for his own health. He was trying to fix some roof shingles after a good storm on his own and he was holding some nails in his mouth. He managed to smash his finger and took a sharp breath in and swallowed a nail. They had to surgically remove it. As he’s telling me the story I almost pissed myself laughing. He kept yelling “it was a major surgery!” which just made me laugh harder.

The FBI agent in charge is sure he got the right guy but has no idea why/when/how he did it and..

The scientists who developed the most convincing evidence against Ivins have even deeper reservations. Paul Keim, who identified the anthrax strain used in the attacks, now tells WIRED, “I don’t know if Ivins sent the letters.” Claire Fraser-Liggett, who used DNA sequencing to tie the killer spores to an anthrax flask in Ivins’ possession, concedes that “there are still some holes.”

The wired articles POV is that the FBI probably wouldn’t have been able to convict the guy in court.

That’s probably right. I did read the FBI report when it came out, and it was convincing but highly circumstantial. Like it involved coded references to two women he was obsessed with ‘hidden’ in some of the notes. I had the feeling he must have done it but his friends would never accept it.

I’m still amazed that this investigation never got more media time.

I didn’t say it was a good excuse for believing he did it!/ I can easily imagine him being too paranoid to send out another one but if someone else did do it why not do it again after the case was closed and obviously headed in the wrong direction again.

375 iceweasel  Sat, Mar 26, 2011 6:56:58am
A 92-page report, which concludes what by many measures is the largest investigation in F.B.I. history, laid out the evidence against Dr. Ivins, including his equivocal answers when asked by a friend in a recorded conversation about whether he was the anthrax mailer.

“If I found out I was involved in some way…” Dr. Ivins said, not finishing the sentence. “I do not have any recollection of ever doing anything like that,” he said, adding, “I can tell you, I am not a killer at heart.” But in a 2008 e-mail message to a former colleague, one of many that reflected distress, Dr. Ivins wrote, “I can hurt, kill, and terrorize.” He added: “Go down low, low, low as you can go, then dig forever, and you’ll find me, my psyche.”

The report disclosed for the first time the F.B.I.’s theory that Dr. Ivins embedded in the notes mailed with the anthrax a complex coded message, based on DNA biochemistry, alluding to two female former colleagues with whom he was obsessed.

That’s exactly what I thought too at the time. But again, the circumstantial evidence about his personal life and the codes in the letters made me believe he was the right guy. But as to convicting him, they didn’t have it. And his suicide came after months of them looking at him. So it doesn’t seem right to use his suicide as evidence of guilt or innocence; he was definitely troubled and had been for a long time.

Splinter Group Says Document Outs Anonymous Members

The veil surrounding the group Anonymous may be falling, now that a group claiming to have defected from the ranks of the online mischief making group has begun publishing what it claims are the identities of the hacker collective’s leadership and their roles in recent high profile hacks, including the theft of e-mail from security firm HBGary Federal.

Late Monday, the group, dubbed Backtrace Security, published a PDF that claimed to identify- or partially identify close to 80 members of Anonymous’s leadership by name, and provide mailing addresses, e-mail and social networking accounts for many of those members. The release of the document on the Website, Anonymousdown is the latest in a string of efforts in recent days to poke holes in the wall of anonymity that shields the group’s members.

According to the published list, Anonymous’s top ranks are made up of some eighty individuals scattered mostly across the U.S., Canada and Western Europe, and as far away as Australia and New Zealand. Some of the identities floated in the list have appeared in print before in connection with the group. For example, the record for ‘Kayla,’ an Anonymous member who claims to be a teenage girl identifies the user of that ‘nick,’ or IRC ID, as a New Jersey based hacker Corey Barnhill. That name turned up in a recent Forbes.com profile, as well.

When I was living in the city I noticed and interesting thing in my social group. More women were handy and interested in learning basic things like this then the men. It was an interesting flip in traditional gender roles. I don’t want to get too cliche about the whole thing but I found that what would happen if something broke in a multi-gendered household, the men would be the first to suggested calling someone and the women if they didn’t know would get a book or go on the internet to get directions on how to fix it.

Farrakhan defends Gadhafi, pans US role in Libya

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said Friday that the United States lacks the moral authority to attack the forces of embattled Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi.

The 78-year-old leader of the Chicago-based organization received cheers Friday night from a packed crowd at a civil rights conference at Jackson State University.

Farrakhan said his friend Gadhafi has played the role of a forceful parent in post-colonial Libya.

“When you come out of a colonial past where you have lost the value of your own self-interest, God raises somebody from among you that can instill in you the value of yourself again and that person dictates the path until you have grown into your own self-interest,” Farrakhan said of Gadhafi.
The minister did not address Gadhafi’s alleged role in the bombing of a Pan Am flight over Lockerbie, Scotland that killed 270 people in 1988.

…He also alleged that Obama had backed down from pushing a Palestinian-Israeli peace accord and banning settlement-building in the West Bank, calling him “the first Jewish president.” Obama is a Christian.

Former KKK clan member running for town mayor says: ‘I was in the boy scouts too’

They are a racist hate group with a long history of violence but now one former Klu Klux Klan member is running for mayor in a southern Florida city.

John Paul Rogers has his sights set on becoming the next mayor of Lake Wales believing he would be the perfect ‘fair minded’ ambassador.

However, locals and critics fear his association with the group means he is not the right man for the job.

Democrat Mr Rogers insists he left his high-ranking position as Florida Grand Dragon within The United Klans of America 30 years ago.

In its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s the organisation was the largest and most violent KKK group in America.

In 1988 it disbanded after losing a $7million civil law suit for its role in the murder of a 19-year-old Alabama teenager Michael Donald in 1981.

According to The Times newspaper, Mr Rogers has refused to apologise for his past, saying: ‘If being against communism, against drugs and in favour of states’ rights is wrong, then I’m wrong.

‘I was in the Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts and nobody ever asks me about that.’

How do these racist fuckwads end up in politics?

Khamis Gaddafi toured US military facilities weeks before Libya crisis

Khamis Gaddafi, 27, spent four weeks in the US as part of an internship with AECOM, a global infrastructure company with deep business interests in Libya, according to Paul Gennaro, AECOM’s Senior Vice President for Global Communications.

His US trip was to include visits to the Port of Houston, Air Force Academy, National War College and West Point, Mr Gennaro said.

The West Point visit was cancelled on Feb 17, when the trip was cut short and Gaddafi returned to Libya, Mr Gennaro said. The uprising in Libya began with a series of protests on Feb 15.

…Mr Gennaro said the US state department approved of the trip, and considered Khamis Gaddafi a reformer. He said the government signed off on the itinerary, at times offering advice that affected the company’s plans for Gaddafi.

TheDC Exclusive: Spitzer’s former madam ‘probably’ running for New York mayor if Client 9 does

Ex-madam and former New York gubernatorial candidate Kristin Davis is considering a run against former New York Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer if he enters the race for mayor of New York City in 2013.

“If Spitzer throws his black socks in the ring I may have to throw in my lacy brassiere,” Davis said in a statement sent to The Daily Caller.

That’s a little troubling. I’m really suspicious of the reporting. A few days ago the British press was publishing bogus stories about the coalition was falling apart and Germany was pissed. I wouldn’t be surprised if Al Qaeda elements were fighting in any or all of these conflicts. It’s what they do. I guess it depends on what kind of influence they have after the fighting stops that really counts.

So YouTube is “going dark” with an option to make the background black for Earth Hour.

Only problem is, it takes more energy to produce a black pixel than a white one unless you’re still on a CRT screen. Oops.

The point of this is to create awareness about light pollution (the reason people in cities now think they can count all the stars in the sky). Once upon a time humans knew what the night sky looked like. Now few do.

Yes, but the AQ label makes them seem more sinister and evil. And as the US and NATO are helping the rebels (and civilians) survive Gaddafi’s military, it means we’re siding with the same terrorists who attacked us on 9/11…and that can only make 2012 a competitive race again! (There’s so much narrative twisting going on that stories like this need to be given the “Is that so?” nod, and then left to rot on their own).

Agreed. Not all of these revolutions are going to result in free and open secular societies. I suppose we just need to let it happen, they need to learn to govern themselves and take the consequences of electing their own leaders. I’m still more worried about Egypt than the rest of them. Gop plans to alienate old people….
GOP sets sights on AARP over its support for healthcare reform

Newly empowered House Republicans are getting ready to renew their attacks against AARP over its support for the healthcare reform law, The Hill has learned.

The Ways and Means health and oversight subcommittees are hauling in the seniors lobby’s executives before the panel for an April 1 hearing on how the group stands to benefit from the law, among other topics. Republicans say AARP supported the law’s $200 billion in cuts to the Medicare Advantage program because it stands to gain financially as seniors replace their MA plans with Medicare supplemental insurance — or Medigap — policies endorsed by the association.

The hearing will cover not only Medigap but “AARP’s organizational structure, management, and financial growth over the last decade.”

Damn, their only reliable voting block and they’re going to blow it up. Good luck with rhar.

I turned it on about 40 minutes ago and they were showing video and talking about protests in London over government spending cuts, now the headline reads “Public workers and Union members protesting in London AND NYC”

So they’ve taken these two very loosely related protests and are now presenting them as one and the same, as if anyone who has the balls to protest government spending cuts is a commie Liberal. On top of that a woman was just talking a moment ago about how it’s a GOOD thing corporations don’t pay much in the way of taxes, because they can pass on the money they save to employees and customers.

For all the pilots and wannabees:

Definitions:

Pilots:
People who drive airplanes.

Fighter Pilots:
Cold, steely eyed, weapons systems managers who kill bad people and break things. However, they can also be very charming and personable. The average Fighter Pilot, despite sometimes having a swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.. These feelings just don’t involve anyone else.

Words of Wisdom From Aviators:

Flying is a hard way to earn an easy living.

Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society. The optimist invents the airplane, the pessimist, the parachute.

If helicopters are so safe, how come there are no vintage helicopter fly-ins?

Death is just nature’s way of telling you to watch your airspeed.

Real planes use only a single stick to fly. This is why bulldozers & helicopters — in that order — need two.

There are only three things the copilot should ever say:

1. Nice landing, Sir.
2. I’ll buy the first round.
3. I’ll take the fat one.

As a pilot only two bad things can happen to you and one of them will.

a. One day you will walk out to the aircraft knowing that it is your last flight.
b. One day you will walk out to the aircraft not knowing that it is your last flight.

There are Rules and there are Laws. The Rules are made by men who think that they know better how to fly your airplane than you. Laws (of Physics) were ordained by nature. You can, and sometimes should, suspend the Rules but you can never suspend the Laws.

About Rules:

a. The rules are a good place to hide if you don’t have a better idea and the talent to execute it.
b. If you deviate from a rule, it must be a flawless performance.. (e.g.., If you fly under a bridge, don’t hit the bridge.)

The ideal pilot is the perfect blend of discipline and aggressiveness.

The medical profession is the natural enemy of the aviation profession..

Ever notice that the only experts who decree that the age of the pilot is over are people who have never flown anything? Also, in spite of the intensity of their feelings that the pilot’s day is over I know of no expert who has volunteered to be a passenger in a non-piloted aircraft.

Before each flight, make sure that your bladder is empty and your fuel tanks are full! ( Amen to that!)

He who demands everything that his aircraft can give him is a pilot; he that demands one iota more is a fool.

There are certain aircraft sounds that can only be heard at night.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Flying is a great way of life for men who want to feel like boys, but not for those who still are.

“If the Wright brothers were alive today, Wilbur would have to fire Orville to reduce costs.” President, DELTA Airlines.

In the Alaska bush I’d rather have a two hour bladder and three hours of gas than vice versa.

It’s not that all airplane pilots are good-looking. Just that good-looking people seem more capable of flying airplanes. ( Aren’t we all?)

An old pilot is one who can remember when flying was dangerous and sex was safe.

Airlines have really changed, now a flight attendant can get a pilot pregnant.

I’ve flown in both pilot seats, can someone tell me why the other one is always occupied by an idiot?

Son, you’re going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can’t do both.

There are only two types of aircraft — fighters and targets.

The scientific theory I like best is that the rings of Saturn are composed entirely of lost airline baggage.

You define a good flight by negatives: you didn’t get hijacked, you didn’t crash, you didn’t throw up, you weren’t late, you weren’t nauseated by the food.. So you’re grateful.

They invented wheelbarrows to teach FAA inspectors to walk on their hind legs.

The FAA Motto:
We’re not happy till you’re not happy.

Experience is something you don’t get until just after you need it.

On the up side we expect a spectacular green hills and excellent wildflowers. Yesterday I was driving up Little Tujunga canyon at sunset-An area that burned just a year or two ago, and it’s like a big green rolling carpet up there. The sun was shining out under broken clouds. Spectacular.

Chilling report on CNN, I just saw…
A woman manages to get into the hotel in Tripoli where the international reporters are. She shouts out recounting her tale of being seized at a checkpoint, bound and repeatedly raped. Government thugs managed to rush to her, grab her, beat reporters, smash camera gear and whisk her away. I’m sure she is dead or worse at this point.

If no fly plus includes bombing the security apparatus and personnel in Libya, I’ll be cheering the air strike on. The bare brutal face of that regime has again been shown.

We (men) have fallen for the traditional wisdom that we are superior to and naturally know how to wrangle our tools so tend to ignore the simple rules of engagement we drill into our kid’s heads.

When I smashed my thumb and had it pop open like a piece of fruit I ignored the pain and the blood and didn’t go to get stitches for three days at which point they can’t use stitches.

It’s disgusting. It’s clearly visible the shock, dismay, and anger of the journalists there at what the authorities are doing and how mostly powerless they are to stop it (Although you can see that at least some of them tried). March 2011

Israeli Apartheid Week organizers across the globe are gearing up for the 7th year of actions in support of Palestinian Civil Society’s call for Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS). Last year’s IAW was incredibly successful with over 55 cities worldwide joining the week to end Israel’s apartheid.

Due to the popularity of Israeli Apartheid Week we have extended the “week” to allow campuses, organizations and regions on different schedules to participate: March 7-20, Global March 21-26 United Kingdom

There are Rules and there are Laws. The Rules are made by men who think that they know better how to fly your airplane than you. Laws (of Physics) were ordained by nature. You can, and sometimes should, suspend the Rules but you can never suspend the Laws.

Islamist Group Is Rising Force in a New Egypt

CAIRO — In post-revolutionary Egypt, where hope and confusion collide in the daily struggle to build a new nation, religion has emerged as a powerful political force, following an uprising that was based on secular ideals. The Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group once banned by the state, is at the forefront, transformed into a tacit partner with the military government that many fear will thwart fundamental changes.

It is also clear that the young, educated secular activists who initially propelled the nonideological revolution are no longer the driving political force — at least not at the moment.

Why is mental illness so low on the global health agenda?

Given this focus on data, are the biggest contributors to the global burden of disease also getting the most attention and resources?

Consider two major causes of death and disability worldwide — maternal mortality and mental illness.

Yet, surprisingly, mental illness actually kills and maims more young mothers worldwide.

For all ages and genders, the World Health Organization says mental illness is the fourth leading cause of disability and tenth leading cause of all deaths. Suicide alone kills nearly three times (nearly a million people) the number of women who die in childbirth (360,000, mostly in the developing world) every year.

Some of it clearly has to do with the stigma that still surrounds mental health, he said. Many people still tend to view mental illness as a character flaw, Patel said, as something that an individual is somehow personally responsible for having and for not being able to control their behavior.

Because of this misunderstanding, he said, many people with mental illness in poor communities (and not-so-poor, but ignorant, communities) suffer severe abuse.

5. Women are more than mothers. The MDGs and other development programs have focused almost exclusively on maternal health, rather than women’s health, in many cases. Women are worth more than their uteruses, and women also die from many other illnesses and problems outside of childbirth. Despite the efforts of Women Deliver, we continue to see “woman as mother” and not “woman as citizen,” which is a paradigm shift that needs to happen. The MDGs were focused on maternal health, not women’s health, and neglected important items like family planning.

REally, it is the same with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. How much depression and anxiety is caused by the inability to learn like other people. How many brilliant people are in prison as the result?

Mental Health treatment can lead to therapy that uncovers more than just the mood or psychiatric disorder. For the depressed dyslexic, learning to read IS the treatment.
