Jennifer Rubin: Bachmann’s Not Kooky, Her Critics Are
In her Washington Post blog, Jennifer Rubin has a strange take on Michele Bachmann’s presidential aspirations; she says Michele Bachmann isn’t the one sounding kooky. It’s all those other people who are really kooky, the ones who pointed out that her candidacy would be great news for Democrats.
But the reaction of the punditocracy is, well, hysterical. Republican guru Mike Murphy proclaims: “Bachmann 2012: Good for the Media, Bad for the GOP.” Blogger Charles Johnson wails, “This is great news for Democrats, of course, because let’s face it — Bachmann is one of the looniest of the loony Republicans. If she runs, she’ll do an excellent job of exposing the GOP for what they are: intolerant, reactionary, ignorant, fanatically religious, and possessed of more than a few loose screws.” While conservatives hyperventilated…
I “wailed” this post while hysterically hyperventilating? Actually, when I wrote it I imagined myself speaking in a very reasonable, slightly amused tone of voice, and I didn’t pass out afterwards.
(And Rubin seems to think I’m a “conservative,” which is also a hoot.)
In any case, I don’t know why I’d be “wailing” that Bachmann’s presidential run would be a godsend for Democrats; perhaps Rubin didn’t realize I see that as a good thing. By all means, let’s get every one of the crackpots and religious fanatics out there in full view of the voting public, because the Republican Party does not deserve to lead this country. It’s badly broken. Michele Bachmann is just one of the most obvious symptoms.
