Fox Suspends Gingrich and Santorum, But Hires Donald Trump

‘Fox News policy’ seems remarkably flexible
Politics • Views: 30,149

Uh, just a minute. Didn’t Fox News recently suspend Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, because “Fox News policy” dictated that as presidential candidates, they couldn’t be Fox commentators?

So why are they now hiring presidential candidate Donald Trump and
giving him his own featured segment?

Oh, that’s right. Because he came out as a raving lunatic Birther, and that’s the kind of commentator who makes Fox News what it is.

OR, he was never running for president in the first place, and the recent crazytalk was just pre-show publicity. Or something.

3 Girth  Fri, Apr 1, 2011 9:48:35am

It's OK, because while Trump is a potential candidate, it's his hair that will actually host the show.

But we need to see a COLB for the hair, and I doubt that one could be found (let alone translated), since it originates in Tau Seti IV.

10 sattv4u2  Fri, Apr 1, 2011 9:53:19am

Not to quibble, but
A) he's not (officially) a cnadidate for anything (yet)
B) He's not getting his "own show". He's doing a segment on an existing show (think Andey Rooney on 60 minutes) ((makes his voice loud and clear every Monday ))

C) the upside is maybe now someone in makeup will do something about that small animal that crawled on his head!
Oh , wait ,,thats his hair!

Alex Pareene:

...there was one line of Trump's speech that bears repeating: "If I run, and if I win, this country will be respected again." Right. Once we elect the bankrupt TV make-believe tycoon huckster, people around the world will say to themselves, "They finally got it right."

The weirdest thing about Trump's birtherism is how incoherent it is. I can't even tell if he just doesn't know that Obama has released his birth certificate, or if he's a deep conspiracy theorist who thinks that birth certificate has been forged.

Or he's just a media whore parroting the most extreme birther talking points to get more publicity.

I don't think he's running for POTUS. It would be a pay cut and he couldn't have his TV shows anymore, and he'd have to live in DC instead of one of his mansions. He's just saying stupid shit for attention.

I honestly don't think Huntsman will run this year. I think he's playing a long game for 2016. Think about it. He has his own personal wealth. He has the executive experience as Governor of Utah. He's got the foreign policy cred as Ambassador to China. All he needs now is for the teabaggers and birthers to destroy each other and for the 2012 GOP to be discredited as too extreme. This would allow him to come in after Obama gets a second term and spend four years as a statesman trying to re-inject civility on the right.

Architects and critics take Trump to task over his Riverside South building project - claiming that it is as bad or worse than New Jersey's stalled Xanadu project.

Sorry, but nothing is worse than the Xanadu project. And Riverside South isn't horrible by Trump standards. If anything, it's toned down from what Trump usually does. These experts are just kvetching because the Trump buildings are new and compete with the existing pre-war aesthetic that lines much of the West Side.

The other side of the same calculus is that if he drops out of the public eye for two to four years it's darn hard to get back. Making a run - even if it's a token run - establishes his credentials for next time even if he doesn't do anything public till then.

Run like Romney is /trying/ to run - as a candidate for the rest of the Republicans, but without the baggage and kerryistic performance of Romney. And if it becomes obvious that this is the year of the crazy, resign from the campaign publicly but gracefully.

Granted, there could be other explanations for the cross-hatching in Trump’s hair, such as a wood-grain tattoo on his scalp. Further study is clearly called for. Now that Trump is running for president, I nominate the Washington press corps to look into it, just as soon as they’re finished writing down everything Michele Bachmann says.

Simple, really. Casinos make money on the betting. But they lose money on wages for croupiers etc., on money for lighting and heating, and on interest to cover the mortgage. If the expenses of running the place outweigh the net take from bettors, the casino loses money.

Gamblers don't cotton to downscale, dingy places. If there's a whiff of "loser" in the air, gamblers can't even enjoy the fantasy that they just might be winners if only Luck be's a Lady tonight.

This makes it all but impossible to run a casino on the Walmart model. Upshot: casinos don't exactly coin money, and bettors pay dearly for the opulent surroundings that bolster their long shot hopes.

He is no more a political candidate than I am. This is all about his brand and publicity. Trump will throw out the red meat throughout the upcoming election cycle. This is a good $ move for Fox, and a good one for Trump too. Fox news watchers will be dumber for it, but that is something that is required for this whole thing to perpetuate itself anyways.
