Donald Trump’s Birther Lunacy is Working (Big Time)

Rich Birther big hit with Teabaggers
Wingnuts • Views: 31,344

How do you win the support of the GOP’s Tea Party base in 2011? It’s so easy even Donald Trump figured it out; you pander to lunatics: NBC/WSJ poll: Trump tied for 2nd in 2012 GOP field.

According to the latest national NBC/WSJ poll, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads the hypothetical 2012 GOP pack with support from 21 percent of Republican primary voters — followed by Trump and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 17 percent each, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 11 percent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at 10 percent. …

Strikingly, Trump — who has received a considerable amount of attention for incorrectly stating that President Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. — finishes first among Tea Party supporters (at 20 percent), followed by Romney (17 percent), Huckabee (14 percent), Palin (12 percent) and Gingrich (9 percent).

Most people don’t know this, but Donald’s coif is a direct copy of Thomas Jefferson’s do. He has founding father hair.

David Barton told me, so it must be true.

The GOP needs a candidate that is

a birther
a creationist
pro-life
pro death penalty
a young earther
anti AGW
anti Mosque

and repeats cut taxes, drill baby drill, give me back my light bulbs and gas guzzlers and give me that old time Christain music.

Trump does Newsmax (More Birtherism and the President is both anti-Israel and allows the Muslim Brotherhood to influence our government):

Trump: … and I’m hearing all sorts of stories, his own family can’t agree which hospital he was born in … and when the family argues about which hospital it was, because they’re not sure, as has been reported by you and others by the way, and then you don’t have a birth certificate, and even the article in the Houston paper was put in a number of days after the birth, it wasn’t put in the identical day, it was put in a number of days after the birth — it’s sort of a strange situation.

Q: Obama promised to run the most transparent White House in history. Has he lived up to that?

Trump: Well certainly he hasn’t in terms of his birth …

Q: Some in Israel think Obama is anti-Israel. Why do you think Obama is not standing by Israel as other President’s have done?

Trump: Well, I have a lot of Israeli friends that are not happy with Obama, and that’s a very long answer to a question that’s a difficult question, and it’s unfortunate. But I have many, many Israeli friends, and I have many Jewish friends that are not happy with President Obama and his treatment of Israel.

Q: Billy Graham’s son, Franklin says Obama is allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to have real influence in our government. Have you heard this and does it concern you?

Trump: I’m hearing more and more about the Muslim Brotherhood and it’s something that I certainly would look into very seriously.

Notice how the Newsmax interviewer seems to have a pathological aversion to using the President’s title.

Poor Mitt Romney. If he tries to appeal to the GOP base, he’s going to look like a blatantly spineless, pandering coward with no real principles, because people who pay attention know he’s not really one of them. If he reaches out to the moderate middle, that by definition means alienating himself from the insane (and loud) base.

87 ProBosniaLiberal  Wed, Apr 6, 2011 7:02:49pm

Al Jazeera Live Blog reporting did a snarky:

1:44am
Former US Senator Curt Weldon traveled to Tripoli on Wednesday to try to convince Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to impose a cease fire on his forces and step down. Weldon led Congressional delegations to the country after Gaddafi agreed to give up its nuclear program in 2004. Check out Weldon’s curriculum vitae, published on Wired magazine’s website, for a glimpse of the ex-senator’s history of dealings with Libya, North Korea, Russia and other lovely countries.

Is reporting supposed to have a sense of humor?

I’ve had a really bad day. :(

Mitt could have done pretty well for himself here as a nice, moderate governor. But no, he had to run from here to run to the right to run for president.

re: #79 marjoriemoon

lol Ross on steroids.

The Donald thinks he can do what the greatest military minds couldn’t do in the last 50 years, subdue Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. If the end of the world is at hand, I can see this man starting it (if that interview is accurate).

Difference is Ross could claim to be a successful businessman. Meanwhile The Donald has been bouncing from bankruptcy court to bankruptcy court, with the only thing keeping him from ending up on Skid Row the image he’s cultivated over the years of being…well…a successful businessman.

But really, what does this country need more, in this time of economic decay and political strife, than a greedy businessman in the White House? What better symbol to the world of just how far we’ve fallen as a nation than a man whose only claim to fame is having hair more ridiculous than Lady Gaga?

Wiki again, a good source of fodder:

Trump is popularly known as The Donald, a nickname given to him by the media after his first wife Ivana Trump, a native of the Czech Republic, referred to him as such in an interview.[86] Trump is also known for his catchphrase, “You’re Fired”, made popular by his television series The Apprentice, and his “possibly unprecedented” double comb over hairstyle in a “lattice-like structure”,[87] which he has refused to change throughout his career. Trump does not shake hands because of fear of germs.[88]

Scientific guess as to what Jesus might really have looked like.

Ok I am being serious here. I always wonder if there were “races” of people that have gone extinct before we realize their existence. I mean I know that race is a very subjective thing so saying that some one is a completely different race might be like debating what is up in the universe or what particular shade of blue is the real “blue”.

The danger I see in all of this? If there is no sane, loyal opposition party, the dems don’t have to do any real work to get moderates and independents to vote for them, nor do they have to be serious about any campaign promises made.

All of humanity is descended from seven women. I’m going to guess that there were more than seven human women on the planet at that time. So yes, there were probably other “races” who are long gone.

Also, genocide isn’t new. There were probably quite a few unlucky tribes in the pre-history.

I think that you go by DNA there might be 10x the number of races around now then most people consider. I heard that there are at least 5 different races of black people in Africa. When most americas think that there is just 2 and most africans think there are at least 50 different races. Race isn’t something real in a scientific term.

Modern anthropology, biological anthropology, is fascinating though I fear that some of the results are feeding the racist frenzy in the xenophobe crowd.

Anyway, it’s become quite clear that the Hominini tribe of primates is quite “bushy”, with very many intermediate forms. Even H. sapiens now has to be redefined in broader terms than once thought.

So yes, with good probability we can affirm that there were “races” that have come and gone in the past couple of hundred thousand years, of which we know nothing.

The Muslim-baiting radio host the GOP can’t resist

The host of a radio show that has become a regular stop for Republican presidential candidates is calling for restrictions on Muslim immigration to the U.S.

Bryan Fischer, who is the American Family Association’s Director of Issues Analysis, also called Islam a “toxic cancer” on his show today. This is not new rhetoric for Fischer, but what makes it interesting is that several potential GOP candidates have recently accepted invitiations to be on his show. That includes Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann, Haley Barbour, and Newt Gingrich.

If Fischer were another anonymous crank, this wouldn’t be newsworthy. But this is a man who regularly attracts presidential candidates to his program. Here he is interviewing Haley Barbour. Here he is interviewing Tim Pawlenty. And here he is interviewing Newt Gingrich.

Some kind of ego is needed to run for POTUS. It’s part of the job, since you have to believe that you’re the one person who knows better than 300 million others how to run the country.

Trump’s just a clown. Unfortunately, he’s a rich clown who can make the rest of us suffer his idiocy until he gets bored and decides that politics is beneath him.

I found this excerpt from a site talking about the Ottoman-Saudi War and the Sack of Karbala. It’s telling. Pay attention to the bold.

In the same pamphlet mentioned earlier Abdullah states, “We do not command the destruction of any writings except such as tend to cast people into infidelity to injure their faith, such as those on logic, which have been prohibited by all divines.” The Wahhabis then deemed which books and writings would be allowed. The fact that they particularly mentioned books on logic is important to point out. Their specific banning of these types of books shows that they feared their doctrines would not be able to compete with them and would therefore pose a threat. Only works that complemented their own were allowed, even books by famous Muslim scholars like Abu Ali Sina, and Ibn Araby were banned.

re: #263 jaunte

“…and I think I can make some money offa that…”

Well, that is how developers (or at least the worst kind of developer) make money. Send an area into hell, then buy it up. An example:

Bushwick’s decline began in the mid-1960s, as impoverished Southern blacks and Puerto Rican immigrants surged into northern urban areas, including central Brooklyn. As race riots ripped apart other cities, including Detroit and Newark, unscrupulous real-estate agents and speculators tried to frighten white Bushwick residents—a practice known as “blockbusting.” Homeowners would find ominous messages in their mailboxes—“Don’t wait until it’s too late!”—as well as encouraging ones: “Houses wanted, cash waiting.” In a massive scandal reminiscent of today’s subprime-mortgage meltdown, speculators bought homes from Bushwick residents for an average of $8,000 apiece, and then, using fraudulent appraisals and a Great Society federal mortgage program that insured home loans to low-income buyers, sold them to poor blacks and Puerto Ricans at prices that they couldn’t afford— on average, about $20,000 per home. Many defaulted, abandoning their homes and massively depressing local property values. By 1972, in one city estimate, some 500 Bushwick buildings stood empty because of the bad loans; others, not part of the federal program, also emptied as housing prices plummeted and buyers balked at investing in the neighborhood.

It’s very sad the Ottoman Empire at the end was hijacked by Ultra-Nationalism, which in turn caused the Anatolian Genocides (It wasn’t just Armenians. The thing I find interesting is that nationalism is a relatively new concept in history. The modern Italian, German, Austrian, and other states while they’ve obviously had governments longer than we have in the US are technically younger states than the US. The thing I’ve been finding more difficult in history lately is the concept of nuance. When I was younger and much more idealist, I used to think in terms of “good guys” and “bad guys” but now I see good guys who did some not good things and bad guys who did some good things and a whole world in between. I think that’s the greatest challenge of history.

re: #319 HappyWarrior

it’s true that it is commonly taught that nationalism is a relatively new concept, but this is looking at things from the perspective of the past thousand years or so - in the dark ages and especially the middle ages and renaissance, european nations were more the possession of royal and noble families than nation states with a national identity the way we think of them today

but if you look back over the roughly three thousand years, lets say, of recorded history, you can see that there were peoples in classical and ancient times that had conceptions of themselves as an nation-like entity, with all the accompanying good and bad results of that, just like we have today

Any workable definition requires isolated populations. Sailing ship, paved roads, 747=no real races.

But human generations last 25-30 years. So the populations need not be isolated NOW. What’s more, there are still any number of effectively isolated populations. Andaman islands, Japan, etc.

The U.S. is a mixing pot. Those we call “black” here do not look at all like the people of the West African nations from which slaves were taken. But there are remote populations scattered across the globe which have until quite recently been very isolated. Even now, they’re close to isolated. Tibet, say.

It is clear, now. But even today, other Wester coutries are far more likely to understand the goings on in Germany than in Turkey. Proximity, trade links and population intermixing have always meant a fairly constant interchange within the West. But Turkey is unlike the west culturally and few Westerners speak Turkish (Non-German Westerners are still more likely to speak German than Turkish).

I recall reading on cracked another time that the USSR under Stalin was one of the first nations to ban lobotomies. I read this when it came out too. It’s interesting stuff. I have to say while in the past and still do to a large degree decry the isolationism in the years leading up to WWII, I have come to see why many were desperate to avoid war with Nazi Germany. I am not suggesting they were right but I understand where they’re coming from. One thing my Chinese history professor has stresed strongly in the two semesters I’ve taken his class is that we need to understand people’s motivations which is different than agreeing with them of course.

What year did he say that? Before or during the war. That would make the comparison and warnings obvious at that time.

Aug 1939, apparently. Caveat: This site seems to be aligned with the long-standing Turkish position on the subject, ie, denialist:

“I have issued the command — I’ll have anybody who utters one word of criticism executed by a firing squad — that our war aim does not consist in reaching certain lines, but in the physical destruction of the enemy. Accordingly, I have placed my death-head formations in readiness — for the present only in the East — with orders to them to send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women and children of Polish derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space which we need. Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”

This quotation was supposed to have come from a harangue Hitler gave his generals just prior to the invasion of Poland in August 1939. Hitler ordered that no notes were to be taken at this meetings so all reports or “quotations” are merely jottings made afterwards from memory or surreptitious notes taken at the time.
