Given that the State of Hawaii says they’ve released everything state law lets them release, what else could Obama do, and how is he avoiding doing it?

Given that the State of Hawaii says they’ve released everything state law lets them release, what else could Obama do, and how is he avoiding doing it?
Basically, they’ve set the bar at a point that he simply can’t reach, where the only means of meeting their demands is violating the law, which would be grounds for his impeachment anyway.
Personally, I look forward to the Supreme Court battle(s) involving any state legislatures stupid enough to pass birther laws aimed at keeping him off their ballots.

For the last couple of years, ever since Obama became a serious candidate, the birthers have charged that he has paid his lawyers huge sums of money to hide his birth certificate and all his other records. The sum keeps going up. It was one million, then a more precise sounding $1.4 million, and now it is two million dollars, and sometimes “more than two million”.
The c. $2million figure is arrived at largely from thin air, but sometimes there is an airy connection attempted to a total billings figure from a law firm retained in some capacity for several years.
Obama For America has paid the law firm Perkins Coie $2.3 million since they announced his campaign for president according to the federal election commission. There is no real reason to doubt that is true. And Perkins Coie has defended the campaign against eligibility suits, whether filed by birthers or on whatever other grounds. However, it is very hard to imagine that all those fees went purely to defending against birther lawsuits. Common sense would dictate that there are many other reasons a PAC would need to retain the services of a law firm. Ironically even if the entire 2.3 million really did go to defending against birther lawsuits then all that proves is that the birthers forced him to waste all that money defending against frivolous lawsuits - hardly a smoking gun.

Now notice how she tries to have it BOTH ways. First, being “understanding” and supportive of the birthers. But, she then says “well I belive he was born in Hawaii” to defend herself to normal people.
So the new thing is, and I don’t know if this was first brought up by Trump or not, that born in the US or not … they think the more reasonable argument is that “well he’s hiding something”. This appeals to the Obama is a “Muslim” crowd, and I really think they believe this has a broader appeal to those who think birthers are nuts.
Incredibly shameful what they’re doing here.

Right, not to mention everything from filing documents for candidacy to signing leases for offices and contracts for advertising, legal documents for campaign financing rules, audits of money, etc.
Some of the payments to Perkins Coie were as far back as Oct. 2008 which could include work they were doing in Aug. 2008 or even earlier. The campaign has spent just over 2.3 million at a law firm who was incidentally responsible for defending eligibility suits (among the many other things they probably did) and the birthers claim that he has spent just over 2 million defending his eligibility. Maybe I am just seeing this as something simpler than it really is but my take is that the birthers’ claim whatever the current total amount spent at Perkins Coie is entirely due to birther-related issues. I don’t think there is a reasonable basis for the claim since the entire premise of the birther issue is unreasonable to begin with. As the tab at Perkins Coie goes up, the number the birthers claim seems to roughly track along with that amount. This pro-birther piece on World Nut Daily seems to corroborate this theory. They are just taking the grand total Obama has spent on all legal representation and claiming, with no real basis, that the whole amount was due to eligibility suits.

I actually had doubts about the Warren Commission report until I went to 6th floor museum in Dallas and stood about 4 feet from the window Oswald fired from. You can’t get any closer because it is sealed off with a glass partition. I looked at the street below and realized too things immediately: The range was very short, much shorter than I had been led to believe, and a target in a car would have been receding in almost a straight line, that is, visually stationary and far too close for bullet drop to matter with a high velocity rifle. It would have been a a very easy shot.
Then I started to compare what conspiracy theorists said about the Warren report to what was actually there. Among other things, I realized that practically every conspiracy theorist flat out lies about the impossibility of the “magic bullet’s” path. They assume, and their illustrations invariably show, Governor Connally sitting directly in front of the President, making it impossible for the same bullet to have caused the attributed injuries to both men. In fact, Connally was sitting below the President and slightly to his left, in which case the bullet path lines up perfectly. This is obvious from simple visual examination of the car itself.

Yep. And it’s rather evident that parts of his forehead and skull are propelled forward in the film. That’s where the bullet escapes. His movement backwards I believe is a physiological reaction. You can’t argue with these people though. They’re just like the truthers. This is one of the biggest turn-offs about the comedian Bill Hicks.

The first thing everyone notices about Dealey Plaza is how small an area it is. For some reason, photographs don’t convey it.
I used to be a huge JFK assassination conspiracy theorist. I know most of the ‘arguments’ backward and forward, and I like to believe (correctly or not) that it gives me a bit of insight into the conspiracy theorist mindset. Hopefully, it inoculated me a bit against that kind of thinking.
Although I don’t hold the X-Files view any more, it’s still damned eerie to wander around Dealey Plaza, for some reason.

So now the right is mad at Boehner and Obama of course but during my reading last night I notice that mane on the left are pissed off at the compromise. Meaning, he struck middle ground through negotiation. Emanuel and Axelrod are Jewish but I don’t know what that has to do with anything other than stereotyping on the part of Maher.

Without much desire or a clear plan, Israel and Hamas are gradually sliding toward another conflict on the ground in the Gaza Strip. Analysts’ assessments that neither side wishes to engage in such a head-to-head confrontation seem to be making no impression on the people actually determining the situation.
If Israel does go into Gaza I hope they finish the job this time and completely remove all of the terrorists in the entire area. No more Mr Niceguy.

Agreed. Klebold could have been helped, if people had known he needed it and pushed for him to get. Harris was a psychopath and could only have been neutralized. The catch with someone like that is to minimize the damage they can do, because they can’t be fixed.

Palestinian Authority Honors Killer of Elderly Jews
The Palestinian Authority has honored the terrorist responsible for the “Passover Massacre,” a 2002 bombing of Netanya’s Park Hotel that killed more than 30 mostly elderly Israelis attending a Seder. The Israeli government is terming the “gift” from its Palestinian counterpart as “a bizarre and troubling way to mark the upcoming Jewish holiday of festival of Passover.”
“Despite an often voiced Palestinian commitment to end the glorification of terrorists and incitement to violence,” Palestinian Minister of Prisoner Affairs Issa Karake on March 28 gave the family of Hamas terrorist Abbas Al-Sayed “an official, festive plaque, in celebration of the anniversary of the massacre,” said the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
Al-Sayed had planned the Park Hotel bombing down to the minutest details, the statement added, helping bomber Abdel-Basset Odeh check his explosives, write a will, and make his ‘martyrdom’ video.
It is the latest, and perhaps most disturbing, example in a Palestinian campaign of honoring terrorists. Days before saluting Al-Sayed, Palestinian Media Watch reported, Karake honored female suicide bombers to mark International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day. Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad also saluted female terrorists who aided or participated in suicide bombings on local radio.
That afternoon, he condemned a bombing that had just occurred at a Jerusalem bus stop, saying that such “shameful” attacks in the past had caused “heavy damage” on the Palestinian cause.
Sporting events and social events are also frequently named after suicide bombers, such as a March 31st soccer tournament and a March 30th karate championship.
Palestinian TV has also glorified suicide bombing. Several broadcasts in 2010 saw mothers of suicide bombers praising the action of their children and calling for more attacks. On September 24, 2010, a channel linked to the governing Fatah party featured an interview with the mother of a ‘martyr.’ “If I were young and could bear children who would fight the way my children fought, and another generation of my children could arise, I would do it,” she stated. An April interview for the same station featured a mother saying that her “glory and honor is that my son is a Shahid [martyr].”
The promotion of violence on official television stations reflects its popularity in Palestinian culture. A recent poll by the Palestinian Authority’s daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, found that 32% of Palestinians supported the March 11th murder of a settler family. The terrorist slit the throats of a baby, small children, and their parents.

Maher jumped the shark a long time ago. Although I probably agree with him about a lot of things, I really dislike him.
Same thing with Michael Moore. He’s dishonest (at best), and he pisses me off thoroughly because, just like Bill Maher, sooner or later he makes a really good point that I can’t argue with, which makes me hate him even more for some reason.
I know almost nothing about Maher, except that when I was tabling for my local Israel group, a lady came by and asked us for some info, because Bill Maher had always said GREAT things about Israel, but now her son was hearing all these AWFUL things about Israel at his college, and that wasn’t what Bill Maher had said at all, so she was reading up so she would know what to tell the kid.
So I have a vaguely favorable impression of his record on Israel which may be entirely skewed, since it came from this one lady at a street fair.

Why would they bury a man - gay or not - like a woman? Is there any evidence that their culture considered a gay man more like a woman than a man? There was also the legal contract of affrerement in medieval Europe, which was used for sexual and non-sexual male-male unions. Some cultures find ways of dealing with it, some don’t. I see no reason to believe that tolerance of same sex relationships is a new thing on the human scene, it’s just novel from our own recent perspective.

Hamas is literally dug in, and they have weapons suppliers and a regular supply of aid of various types coming in, which frees them up to pursue their real avocation of harrying Israel with missiles and depositing fortunes in Swiss banks.
It’s a mess. It interferes with any possibility of getting a functioning Palestinian state going, it interferes with Israel’s national security, it’s a drag on Israel’s relationship with Egypt, and it is an ongoing PR nightmare for Israel. And the whole damn thing is a hundred and forty-six square miles. It’s like freaking Andorra, if Andorra were owned and operated by a terrorist organization.

Hamas is literally dug in, and they have weapons suppliers and a regular supply of aid of various types coming in, which frees them up to pursue their real avocation of harrying Israel with missiles and depositing fortunes in Swiss banks.
It’s a mess. It interferes with any possibility of getting a functioning Palestinian state going, it interferes with Israel’s national security, it’s a drag on Israel’s relationship with Egypt, and it is an ongoing PR nightmare for Israel. And the whole damn thing is a hundred and forty-six square miles. It’s like freaking Andorra, if Andorra were owned and operated by a terrorist organization.

One thing I’ve realized after thinking about my taxes, looking closely at the tax rates and running hypotheticals of what I’d have to earn per hr. in order to truly (for example) double my net (after tax) purchasing power … is that our so called progressive tax system isn’t so progressive.
In other words, the marginal value of some person’s hour of their life which they trade for money, if they say earn $30,000/yr, is a whole lot less than the marginal value for someone who makes $150,000/yr. In the latter case the marginal tax rate does not change, but in the former case the tax rate changes significantly (especially when including some states’ tax rates.)

Israel has decided to continue to “work against terrorism in Gaza,” despite Hamas’ call for a ceasefire, Cabinet Secretary Zvi Hauser said on Sunday.
The political-security cabinet convened earlier in the day in order to discuss the current situation with Gaza. Travel warnings issued to Israelis for Mediterranean states
The National Security Counter-Terrorism Bureau on Sunday issued a travel warning to Israelis planning to go to countries in the Mediterranean and Far East.

Minister of Public Security Yitzchak Aharonovich and Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon joined Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu Sunday in sounding an increasingly ominous tone toward the Hamas terror entity in Gaza.
Aharonovich called Hamas’s behavior “barbaric” and Ayalon said the terror group only understands force.
Aharonovich toured the Gaza Belt communities as terrorist missile attacks continued. He met with the head of the Sha’ar Hanegev local authority, Alon Shuster, and the head of Merhavim local authority Avner Mori, and offered them assistance in dealing with the security situation.
He also visited the spot where a Grad missile hit in the Negev town of Ofakim.
“There is no immunity for anyone in Gaza and they must know that we will hunt them down, one by one, until we find them. We will know how to reach their hiding places in the ground. The IDF has the means for that and we will use them,” Aharonovich declared.
The final stop on the minister’s tour was Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva, where he visited Daniel Viflic, who was critically wounded when terrorists fired a Kornet anti-tank missile at the school bus he was in.
“Hamas behavior is barbaric,” he said outside the hospital. “Everyone knows that a yellow bus is an international marking for a vehicle transporting children, and firing at it is a heinous crime and a crossing of a line.”
“Hamas has no compunctions but we will know how to react with the force that the IDF possesses. We will not the abandon residents of the South and we will hunt down Hamas and the terror groups wherever they may be.”
Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said Sunday that “terror will never defeat us. The nation of Israel will always know how to close ranks in the face of threats, and we are all with the residents of the South. Unfortunately Hamas only understands force, and Israel knows how to make Hamas understand that terror will have a steep price tag.”

The USS Liberty incident was an accident.

The Johnson administration did not publicly dispute Israel’s claim that the attack had been nothing more than a disastrous mistake. But internal White House documents obtained from the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library show that the Israelis’ explanation of how the mistake had occurred was not believed.
Except for McNamara, most senior administration officials from Secretary of State Dean Rusk on down privately agreed with Johnson’s intelligence adviser, Clark Clifford, who was quoted in minutes of a National Security Council staff meeting as saying it was “inconceivable” that the attack had been a case of mistaken identity.
The attack “couldn’t be anything else but deliberate,” the NSA’s director, Lt. Gen. Marshall Carter, later told Congress.
“I don’t think you’ll find many people at NSA who believe it was accidental,” Benson Buffham, a former deputy NSA director, said in an interview.
“I just always assumed that the Israeli pilots knew what they were doing,” said Harold Saunders, then a member of the National Security Council staff and later assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern and South Asian affairs.
“So for me, the question really is who issued the order to do that and why? That’s the really interesting thing.”
The NSA’s deputy director, Louis Tordella, speculated in a recently declassified memo that the attack “might have been ordered by some senior commander on the Sinai Peninsula who wrongly suspected that the LIBERTY was monitoring his activities.”
An awful lot of people in the NSA disagree with the “accident” meme. I do too. What I foid particularly despicable is the tendency for many people to scream “Jew hater!” at anybody (including surviving and sometimes still badly injured or PTSD suffering crew members) who suspects that Israel had a rational reason for attacking the Liberty.

Is conservatism recovering its balance? Three positive signs in this past week.
1) The Republican caucus accepted a deal to avert a government shutdown. The deal is a huge victory for governance Republicanism over talk radio conservatism.
2) Glenn Beck’s show was canceled. There remains plenty of angry extremism on the airwaves: Limbaugh, Levin, and so on. But the collapse in Beck’s ratings represents a heartening repudiation of John Birch society conspiracy-mongering by rank-and-file conservatives – despite the shameful attempt by Fox News to mainstream this junk.
3) Donald Trump shouldered aside Newt Gingrich in Republican primary preferences. This may not sound like good news but bear with me: It used to be that the person offering the Obama-is-African-not-American message to the Republican primary electorate was a former speaker of the House, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and a Fox News contributor: in other words, an eminent and respectable personage. Now Trump has stolen the Gingrich spotlight, knocked Gingrich out of the top 3. With the result that the bearer of the Obama-not-American message is a clownish TV personality in an absurd hairdo. That’s progress. Birtherism is being quarantined within the GOP. Better if it were repudiated and extinguished, but although this week was positive, it was not miraculous.

I have a simple suggestion for this. Israel should declare a cease fire. No random targeted attacks anymore.
However, since the people of Gaza are presumably adults and by all accounts not rebelling against Hamas and since all firing points from Gaza can be accurately identified; Israel should say that on any given day one or all firing points will have a 500 lb bomb dropped on them (within 100 feet) 8 hours after the firing; regardless of location.
Plenty of time for people to leave the area and plenty of reason for them to discuss where the next firing points should be.

If anything, it’s becoming more virulent. Trump blew the whistle loud and clear, after months of other candidates just jingling it around and teasing the base with it. Now Palin’s started blowing her own and, given time, the others will to, if only to “take back the initiative.” Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not already digging through all their family papers, trying to haul out their own “long forms.”

While I am not fan of Palin, and Trump is a buffoon (anyone with an MBA and some good, well-paid advisors could have amassed his wealth if they were left with the money he inherited from his father), I clearly heard Palin say that it was her belief that Obama was born in Hawaii.
What I got from the interview is that Palin was pointing out the fact that a private U.S. citizen could use his own resources to challenge the constitutional ability of the President to hold office (and on any nutty premise): the U.S. is probably one of the the only countries in the world where this could be done without that citizen being jailed, or worse (and the other nations are only around because they have been protected by the U.S. from one threat or another since WWII). Sometimes I think that the Palin Hatred Syndrome blinds Americans to the things that are great about their country, and make it unique in the world (as did Bush Derangement Syndrome) - I say this as a Canadian.

It does not present any evidence at all to refute the fairly voluminous testimony by eyewitnesses in the Chicago Times story, including intel people who listed in on radio chatter from the Israeli jets in real time during the attack, and other, widely spread intel military personnel who read the teletypes in Da Nang and elsewhere the same day and who all corroborate the claim that Israeli pilots identified the US flag on the ship, repeatedly asked for verification that this was the ship they were supposed to hit and were told by controllers to attack.
The transcript published by the Jerusalem Post bore scant resemblance to the one that in 1967 rolled off the teletype machine behind the sealed vault door at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, where Steve Forslund worked as an intelligence analyst for the 544th Air Reconnaissance Technical Wing, then the highest-level strategic planning office in the Air Force.
“The ground control station stated that the target was American and for the aircraft to confirm it,” Forslund recalled. “The aircraft did confirm the identity of the target as American, by the American flag.
“The ground control station ordered the aircraft to attack and sink the target and ensure they left no survivors.”
Forslund said he clearly recalled “the obvious frustration of the controller over the inability of the pilots to sink the target quickly and completely.”
“He kept insisting the mission had to sink the target, and was frustrated with the pilots’ responses that it didn’t sink.”
Nor, Forslund said, was he the only member of his unit to have read the transcripts. “Everybody saw these,” said Forslund, now retired after 26 years in the military.
Forslund’s recollections are supported by those of two other Air Force intelligence specialists, working in widely separate locations, who say they also saw the transcripts of the attacking Israeli pilots’ communications.
One is James Gotcher, now an attorney in California, who was then serving with the Air Force Security Service’s 6924th Security Squadron, an adjunct of the NSA, at Son Tra, Vietnam.
“It was clear that the Israeli aircraft were being vectored directly at USS Liberty,” Gotcher recalled in an e-mail. “Later, around the time Liberty got off a distress call, the controllers seemed to panic and urged the aircraft to ‘complete the job’ and get out of there.”
Six thousand miles from Omaha, on the Mediterranean island of Crete, Air Force Capt. Richard Block was commanding an intelligence wing of more than 100 analysts and cryptologists monitoring Middle Eastern communications.
The transcripts Block remembered seeing “were teletypes, way beyond Top Secret. Some of the pilots did not want to attack,” Block said. “The pilots said, ‘This is an American ship. Do you still want us to attack?’
“And ground control came back and said, ‘Yes, follow orders.’”
Gotcher and Forslund agreed with Block that the Jerusalem Post transcript was not at all like what they remember reading.
Block, now a child protection caseworker in Florida, observed that “the fact that the Israeli pilots clearly identified the ship as American and asked for further instructions from ground control appears to be a missing part of that Jerusalem Post article.”

It reminds me of truthers who claim they don’t think the government is responsible for 9/11, they just want “further investigations”. Ultimately, they’re just hoping they’ll find proof of their ideas without explicitly endorsing them first.

I think what he means is that a majority of the House and Senate love the whole birther bullshit, but for different reasons. It gives the Republicans a way of looking like they care about the country without doing any actual work, and it gives the Democrats hope the Republicans will alienate enough Americans that they can coast to victory since campaigning aggressively appears to be beyond their abilities.

It has to pass by a supermajority in both houses of congress, then be ratified by 3/4 of the state legislatures.

The constitution can be amended to eliminate this provision, but it is a very difficult process. It has been done only 17 times. (The first ten amendments, the Bill of Rights were adopted almost contemporaneously with the rest of the document.) In this case, the process would probably be opposed by whichever party seemed less likely to have an immigrant candidate. The most recent amendment, limiting the power of Congress to raise its own salaries, was first proposed as the twelfth article of the Bill of Rights but was not ratified until 1992.

If the United States has been able to contribute to this by policing the world, I consider this our little donation to freedom, however kooky.

There’s a matter of interpretation and original intent. A strictly literal reading of “natural born” could easily mean my daughters could never be President, as they had Cesarian deliveries. I am not dodging anything.
To be honest, I do not know what Obama has presented in answer to people who question his place of birth (or even what the best documents are, or should be); however, I am sure that whatever that is, he has done it and that there is no doubt that he was born in Hawaii, nor should there be.
My original post on this thread simply stated that I did not hear Palin admit that she was with the birthers, as Charles had claimed, and that the hate shown to her causes some people to attribute things to her that were not there. No more, no less.

Really? for me, the top 3 links are the same. It’s a google proxy. If the problem is malware, the malware won’t know to redirect the scroogle links.

Thank you very much. I will try after dinner, but I have to say this is an odd one. I know that spammers rotate their domains and it is not hard to imagine that they can target certain ISPs or domains to keep a lower profile. I’ve run scans and find nothing, nor do I have any other oddities.

Update. I ran a McAfee scan, adware and windows defender. The first found a few Bamital.dll virus entries and some malware. (I haven’t used this PC for some time).
Then I tried the wiki search again and now it worked.
However I still find this an odd way for a virus to operate since I noticed no other issues. Surely this thing could not have been waiting for me to make just that search.
