Teabagger Fail in Madison, with Half Governor and Breitbart

A wingnut fest, with plenty of rage
Wingnuts • Views: 30,681

Reports are that less than a thousand people have turned out for the Koch Brothers-sponsored Teabagger rally today in Madison, Wisconsin, despite the featured appearance of half-governor Sarah Palin. And the few wingnuts who showed up were confronted with hundreds of pro-union counter-protesters.

It’s still going on, with one deranged Tea Party loon after another taking the microphone. Here’s a live video feed; they’re using Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” as background music, which probably irritates him enormously. They’re using the music of one of the most pro-union musicians in America in an agenda to destroy unions.

Andrew “Fraudster” Breitbart just took the stage, proclaiming “the death of community organizing.”

Breitbart proclaiming “the death of community organizing" while engaging in community organizing. He must be having another out of body experience. The one we often call cognitive dissonance.

Not to mention that the lyrics of "Born in the U.S.A." are not exactly meant to convey happy patriotism. It's a sad song about the USA, not a happy song.

I don't think the right-wing ever had enough fucking brains to understand that, for some reason, because so many on the right keep using that as some sort of patriotic flag-waving song, when it's anything but....

I made it through 15 seconds of Sarah. "Now, our president isn't leading, he's punting." Yes, that's right. Basically he took the ball and buried your side down in the coffin corner, so it would be easier for the offense to score when it gets the ball back inside your 20. Great analogy. Actually, when I listen to this woman talk, I think this must be what it's like when a dog hears the dogs-only whistle: "Jesus, that's annoying! Stop blowing that, master!"

Tea party, still struggling against demographics

Riding a Democratic tide that bolstered the party's presence in both houses of Congress, Obama snared about 63 million votes to McCain's 55.8 million, according to totals early Wednesday.

According to exit polls, Obama crushed McCain among women voters (56 percent to 43 percent); voters under 30 (66 percent to 32 percent); African-American voters (95 percent to 4 percent); Latino voters (66 percent to 32 percent); first-time voters (68 percent to 31 percent); and voters making less than $100,000 a year (55 percent to 43 percent).

Oh my... whoever said there were racists in the Tea Party?

The Weekly has obtained a copy of an email sent to fellow conservatives this week by Marilyn Davenport, a Southern California Tea Party activist and member of the central committee of the Orange County Republican Party.

Under the words, "Now you know why no birth certificate," there's an Obama family portrait showing them as apes.

...Reached by telephone and asked if she thought the email was appropriate, Davenport said, "Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people--mostly people I didn't think would be upset by it."

In fairness, at least a couple of GOPers are offended by it too and calling for her resignation.

...conference attendees suggested "changing the terms of debate, namely, swapping the word 'gay' for alternatives including 'sodomy' and 'anti-Christian.'”

Now, if anyone suggests that Obama wrote Prairie Fire, I'm going to be real impressed that a little kid could write all that, even if one is relieved that his political beliefs seem to have evolved a bit as he went through puberty.

She was also on the wrong side of the fence with the Los Alamitos mayor and his White House watermelon patch picture. I've said before that if you want to see the future of America's energy independence, it's not in drilling ANWR or off-shore, it's in home fuel cells, in windmills, and (yes, Sarah) in solar shingles that will allow Americans to rely more on what their homes can produce and less on what the smog-belching fossil-fuel fired plant in the next county can provide.

Of course, Big Energy's gonna fight that tooth and nail, because if their customers are in any way self-sufficient, it robs them of their ability to gouge them for whatever they're willing to pay.

Wouldn't be surprised. Big Energy's been using its money for years to slow down the development and marketing of such technologies, swathing them in the sort of red tape that they deplore when it's used on their own oil rigs and power plants. Want to create a lot of jobs and get America moving towards energy independence? Start cutting down the red tape that is making items like solar shingles and home windmills outrageously expensive to install and maintain. Offer even more incentives to home owners to invest in such technologies, as well as energy-efficient appliances and home renovations.

"Cheap oil" is a dinosaur, one that's on the fast-track to extinction. Unless we want to go along with it, we need to find a way to divorce ourselves from it. Doubling down and ruining our environment further in pursuit of the last few pockets isn't the answer.

Higher mileage, better built and much safer. One of the greatest urban myths is that old cars were safer. Most of what you see in the old cars is just sheet metal with nothing behind it. re: #189 RadicalModerate

Given these people's tendencies to not actually read the lyrics of songs/poetry that they use (without permission most of the time) in their propoganda (see Santorum's recent pilfering of Langston Hughes as example), I'd say that Woodie Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" would be a prime candidate.

Very vital comment here.

If not aware of the original lyrics of the "patriotic" song by Guthrie - you should look into it. He was condemned for that song by many.

Racist Email Circulates About Obama

Davenport responded to the Weekly, "Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people--mostly people I didn't think would be upset by it."

Davenport reportedly is looking for identity of “the coward” who supplied the email to the Weekly and is blaming the media for “making this a big deal.”

This is a great video. It's a 2009 Chevy Malibu destroying a 1959 Chevy Bel Air station wagon.

[Video]Higher mileage, better built and much safer. One of the greatest urban myths is that old cars were safer. Most of what you see in the old cars is just sheet metal with nothing behind it. When safety standards began to be adopted in the USA back in the 60s we heard similar complaints like we see now about CAFE standards.

You may walk away from the Malibu.
You ain't getting out alive from the Bel Air.

I think all the bitching about raising CAFE standards hilarious in light of pretty much every commercial you see on TV these days, with auto manufacturers playing up how fuel efficient their car is over the competition, putting up the MPG in BIG BOLD LETTERS.

It's like the commercial for the new Mustang V6, whose big selling point is all that horsepower, but great fuel mileage. But yeah, nobody cares about fuel economy in America...*rolls eyes*

Wow, the amount of denial in these comments is incredible. Facts -- in 1959, there were 37,910 vehicle fatalities in the US. In 2009, there were 30,797 fatalities. HOWEVER, the miles driven in 1959 were 600 million, and in 2009 there were 3 BILLION miles. In other words, you were 6 times more likely to die in an auto accident in 1959 than in 2009, per vehicle mile. That is a staggering statistic that you just can't rationalize around.

I agree that this was not based in any sort of ideological agenda, it was just lashing out. I don't think this helped them in the midterms. It actually slowed their progress and threw away some very easy victories in Nevada and Delaware. Republicans should have picked up more territory than they did.

They didn't get the election on Tea Party froth. They got it on a lousy economy and the traditional midterm flip. The GOP could have had the senate if they hadn't wasted their time with novelty candidates.

Oh, they picked up one or two spots, but that's about it. And those seats are now causing the leadership more headaches than they're worth. Between the budget cuts and now the upcoming debt ceiling vote, it's looking as though the leadership has decided that putting up with the peanut gallery is no longer politically viable.

Oklahoma had a Tea Party rally, 30 people showed up. What's up with that? This was prime Tea Party real estate. When news came out about the Republican's move to do away with Medicare as they know it, Oklahomans are strangely silent. I would love to hear Oklahoma's Republicans take on the subject. I mentioned it in a Oklahoma message board and no one rebutted me but they sure did down ding me with some bad emoticons. I am not letting it go.

Born in the USA

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

[refrain]

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said "Son, don't you understand"

I had a brother at Khe Sahn fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go

[refrain]

Something tells me Mr. Springsteen didn't have a glowing endorsement of the type of industry Koch represents in mind when he wrote this song.

248 Fozzie Bear  Sat, Apr 16, 2011 3:47:34pm

Springsteen says Wal-Mart album deal was mistake - Champion of America's blue-collar workforce regrets giving anti-union retailer sole rights to release anthology of hits

"It was a mistake," he told the New York Times. "We were in the middle of doing a lot of things, it just kind of came down and really, we didn't vet it the way we usually do."

Admitting that he had "dropped the ball", Springsteen said that instead of handing the album to Wal-Mart, "given its labour history, it was something that if we'd thought about a little longer, we'd have done something different".

He added: "Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be."

...

Springsteen recently burnished his political credentials by headlining at an official inaugural concert for President Barack Obama at Washington's Lincoln Memorial. The singer nicknamed The Boss has a prestigious half-time slot to sing at tonight's Superbowl in Florida.

Oh Bruce, you are such a teabagger! /
