Madison Tea Party: Palin Introduced by Breitbart Screaming ‘Go To Hell!’

The tea is getting sour
Wingnuts • Views: 37,137

“Go to hell!”Here’s an update on the pitiful attendance at today’s Teabagfest in Madison, Wisconsin, featuring Andrew “Go To Hell!” Breitbart and Sarah “Fight Like a Girl” Palin, who had to scream to be heard over the counterprotesters. Earlier reports of about a thousand people were slightly under the mark, but not by much; at its peak, police estimated the crowd at 6,500 (but warned that the estimate was inaccurate). Compared to the ~100,000 who attended the demonstrations against Scott Walker’s union-busting bill, this was a tiny crowd.

The tea party supporters were lined along the sidewalk in front of the podium, surrounded by small barriers, perhaps to keep the sounds of counter protesters out. Several thousand counter-protesters surrounded them, chanting “Recall Walker,” blowing whistles and horns, beating drums and sometimes booing the speakers.

Even though they used a sound system, it was hard to hear everything the speakers were saying over the counter-chants. …

Only the shrill Vicki Mckenna, talk show host WIBA, seemed to be able to cut through the chanting, when she told them: “Shut up.” The crowd didn’t listen. Andrew Breitbart was similarly annoyed and told the crowd, “you’ve been so rude, go to hell. You’re trying to divide America.”

Actually, Breitbart screamed, “Go to hell! Go to hell! Go to hell!” like a madman. This was Sarah Palin’s introduction.

Youtube Video

DERPJim “Dim” Hoft, with his customary knack for ridiculously inflating Teabag crowd sizes, is claiming “between 10,000 and 15,000 patriots,” and an indeterminate number of “thugs” who heckled the Madonna of Morons: SARAH PALIN – ANDREW BREITBART Join Thousands of Patriots at Madison Tea Party (Live on UStream) …Update: Thugs Heckle Sarah Palin …Update: Sarah to Obama, “Mr. President, Game On!”

The left is out in force today in Madison, Wisconsin.

But… So are the tea partiers. Andrew Breitbart and Sarah Palin will speak to the throngs of patriots this afternoon. I just heard from a trusted source that, despite the cold weather, there are between 10,000 and 15,000 patriots in attendance.

You can watch the prostes [sic] live here.

Andrew Breitbart cares about dividing America? Hahahaha what a joke and Palin continues to show her true colors by associating with a professional douchebag like that.

The Stewart/Colbert rally pretty much took the fun out of the TP tactic. They'll never get close to that.

The Stewart/Colbert rally was also entertaining for all the right reasons, like The Roots, John Legend, and the Mythbusters. The TP rallies? Not so much.

Yeah it was a fun time. The TPers meanwhile by and large are a bunch of whiny babies who can't get over the fact that things don't always go their way.

For years I've heard that the right can't tolerate the left because the left's decisions are always based on emotion where the right's decisions are based on cold calculated, rational logic, yet that isn't what I see. The far right and TP rhetoric has little to no logic, and what logic it does use is poor, but what they do bring to the table are heavily emotionally laced polemics.

I know there are a lot of logical and rational conservatives, we have many here, yet the most vocal conservatives, epitomized by Breitbart and FR loons, show no familiarity with logical dispassionate arguments. Has there been a reversal of roles I've missed or do a lot of modern conservatives simply not understand the difference between emotional and intellectual thought?

Nobody is showing up to the rallies. Presidential candidates like Trump and Pawlenty only drew crowds of 50 or so to their Tea Party appearances. Palin got a few hundred and most of them were probably bussed in. In places like Wisconsin and Boston the there were far more counter protesters and Tea Partiers. I read a news report yesterday about a Tea Party rally in Florida that only had one single person attending.
There was no rally in dc this year because they couldn't get anyone to show up. Glenn Beck is going off the air soon and nobody is showing up to Tea Party rallies anymore. Republican politicians have been asked about possible repercussions from voting for the budget comprimise and raising the debt ceiling and they aren't afraid of the Tea Party.
I'm pretty sure it's all over.

I happen to think the reasonable conservatives, like many reasonable liberals/progressives wind up with their brand hijacked by the more extreme from time to time. The 'net accelerates the data and the behavior folks via new media/social media etc. The crazies drown out the reasonable by the very nature of new media and old media. Now it's faster. The speed of twitter.

I'm shocked. The guy's smarter than this. And you know, the idea that President Obama was not born in Hawaii, being -- you know, making that the centerpiece of his campaign, means that he's just -- you know, now, you know, a joke candidate. Let him go ahead and announce for election on "The Apprentice." The American people aren't going to be hiring him, and certainly, the Republicans are not going to be hiring him in the Republican primary.

Really Rove? Is that why he's leading by 9 points? The entire GOP is delusional. Even the ones that want to be seen as sane, are making statements that are so divorced from reality as to make one wonder if they really believe anything they say.

Donald Trump on Health Care

We must have universal health care
Im a conservative on most issues but a liberal on health. It is an unacceptable but accurate fact that the number of uninsured Americans has risen to 42 million. Working out detailed plans will take time. But the goal should be clear: Our people are our greatest asset. We must take care of our own. We must have universal healthcare.

The Whackos™ are truly waging a war against Individual Rights. While they twist Science, Ayn Rand and other historical resources to their needs, they are waging a war against both men and women. Trying to return to 'old-fashioned' values that never were, to create a theocratic utopia that never can be.

Without reproductive freedom (a/k/a sexual freedom --the horror) the INDIVIDUAL is not free.

Why do they hate the Founding Fathers?

97 justaminute  Sat, Apr 16, 2011 4:46:28pm

I took the time to remind the hard headed right in Oklahoma that their party wants to cut funding for FEMA and cut back on funding for the Severe Storm Lab in Norman that tracks tornadoes. Today was a good day to remind them how much their party cares for them. The whole South should be reminded about that today.

Because, I guess, it is important to know what sex a person is when you are dealing with them. IMHO, unless you are really concerned about offending them (which shouldn't matter unless you are a misogynist) or are looking to get laid by a certain gender. In all other dealings--does it matter?

I agree on that. Now that the Tea Party is dead the wingnuts are just flailing wildly with nothing to guide them. I think Trump is a good example of this. He has nothing in common with the Tea Party. He's pretty left leaning. Proposed higher taxes on the wealthy, advocated for Canadian style single payer universal healthcare and supported a long list of Democrats. Wingnuts have latched on to him because the birther thing even though he believes the exact opposite of the Tea Party.

"Several thousand counter-protesters surrounded them, chanting “Recall Walker,” blowing whistles and horns, beating drums and sometimes booing the speakers."

This is one of many teachable moments we can expect from the angry left. They're really big on free speech as long as it doesn't come from the center or right. The rabble-rousers who were filling the punchbowl with turds today in Wisconsin aren't typical of the majority of people who live there. Last November they elected a Republican Governor and a Republican US Senator. Russ Feingold was shown the door simply because he had ventured so far left, the mature, centrist voters had their collective fill of not only Russ, but the Democrat Party in general. Sure there were a lot of whiny babies out there today, but based on how the state voted overall, the bed-wetters are in the minority.

You rang? Project Have Donut, the truth about Area 51 and the Israeli connection.

I was asked what sort of person would come up with a name like "Have Donut." My guess would be someone who had missed breakfast. Other "Have" code-names included "Have Nap," which was the US name for the Israeli Popeye cruise missile, and "Have Charcoal" was an infra-red countermeasures device of some sort. One wonders if this gave a clue to how it worked, since one such device attempted to decoy IR missiles by dumping white-hot ceramic bricks overboard.

And don't forget probably the most famous of the "Have" projects, "Have Blue", which gave us the F-117.

Enough Senate Dems, worried about 2012 will come around a ways. There's also the fact that the House has to originate the budget, so Obama has to play ball. The original's story is better, but the sequel has VASTLY improved combat.

You can actually play it as a fairly normal shooter, because your standard side arm (rivet gun) is accurate and you can kill most standard enemies with a headshot, something you very much COULD NOT DO with the pistol in the original.

Don't need to overturn a veto, James. We just need to make a budget that Obama will pay too high a price to veto. If he's presented a decent budget and then vetoes it, he'll get slapped with the blame for any resulting shutdown. He catches that blame, and his reelection chances plummet.

249 HappyWarrior  Sat, Apr 16, 2011 5:58:09pm

The problem with the TP isn't so much race. It's goddamned dishonesty. I am sorry but I am highly skeptical of their claims to suddenly worry about the size and role of government when many of them were quiet during the Bush years when spending was just as high. As Obama pointed out the other day, many of their heroes including Ryan voted for many of the itmes that have contributed to the deficit. The deficit and spending is not a liberal or conservative, democratic or republican problem but a problem caused by presidents of both parties and the narrative the Tea Party gives is that all was just fine until Obama came in.

And a budget which assumes a 2.8% unemployment rate.

A budget that assumes that, by screwing over the poor and elderly to finance yet another huge tax cut for the wealthy, we can achieve millions of new jobs annually and push the unemployment level to a point not seen since the Korean War.

Unusual kid:
Seongha typically takes three days to learn and practice a new song

I do not at all mean to belittle that kid's talent, but:

He's a jukebox. Believe it or not, it isn't terribly unusual for budding musicians of that age to get a firm handle on new songs within 2 or 3 days. Technical difficulty can be overcome with practice.

What sets a jukebox kid apart from a true prodigy is not their ability to tackle technical challenges, but rather their capacity to intuitively understand stylistic nuances and incorporate that into their playing. A truly amazing young musician will grasp all of the above, but will spend more time farting around, struggling with making his own music than s/he will spend trying to craft a note-perfect rendition of "Herpty Derp" by Derp Herpleson and the Derpty Doops.

My authority for asserting this comes from having myself been a rather above-average jukebox kid who could eventually figure out how to play nearly anything put in front of him, but whose original compositions all somehow managed to sound like perverse mutations of "La Cucaracha".

Messing with Medicare or Medicaid would be one thing. I've been want to post this article, and now I'm going to do so:

Paul Ryan vs. the Mythmakers

Ramesh Ponnuru

If you’ve been following the debate over the House Republican budget proposed by Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, you have probably heard that it savagely cuts programs for the poor in order to fund tax cuts for the rich, that its numbers don’t add up, and that in the short run it expands the deficits. These claims, though asserted confidently, either depend on highly contestable assumptions or are demonstrably untrue.

• David Frum writes in The Week that Ryan’s “debt reduction plan actually increases the debt over the medium term — by even more [than] President Obama’s budget would.”

The CBO’s actual projections for the Ryan plan show a debt level in 2021 that is $4.7 trillion lower than its projections for Obama’s budgets. Ryan’s plan is designed to rapidly stabilize federal debt as a share of the economy: That percentage peaks in year three and then starts falling. The CBO projections for Obama’s budgets just show the number rising higher and higher over the decade.

•“In fact, the [Congressional Budget Office] finds that over the next decade the [Ryan] plan would lead to bigger deficits and more debt than current law,” writes Paul Krugman in the New York Times.

What Krugman doesn’t mention is that current law includes automatic tax increases, including middle-class tax increases that both parties have consistently said they want to avoid. Current law includes cuts in payments to Medicare providers that both parties oppose and have acted against in the past. It includes the expansion of the Alternative Minimum Tax to hit more and more middle-class taxpayers, which — well, you get the idea. Krugman is comparing the Ryan plan with an alternative that is both unrealistic and much more painful than he lets on.

It wouldn't be cool at all. The Chicago Police Department would have to declare a curfew to curb riots, regardless of who won. People would die, Steve. The rivalry and attendant butthurt are that intense.

this is why I'll never understand Chicago

To place all this faith and violence into sports is just animalistic and embarrassing.

I like a baseball game, I saw Mariners games as a kid. It's a pasttime, it's fun. I like Ichiro. I've almost got a crush on Ichiro.

These idiot fucks who just scream like children and yell and throw batteries at players, arrest them, throw them in jail for a couple months, and most importantly, ban a few of them for life from any sports arena on pain of a prison sentence, they'll fucking clean their dumb obssessed jock sports act up.

I've never wanted to toss a man to his death like a disgusting baseball freak

Next time we intend to invade a country we need to f***ing invade it like we did with Germany and Japan.

If we're going to do "nation building" we should do it from the ground up, and keep the country as an occupied region for around a decade with us running things from the top down.

I think we handed over power to the locals too soon in Afghanistan, and possibly in Iraq also in regards to creating the most effective government possible.

401 Dark_Falcon  Sat, Apr 16, 2011 6:40:05pm

And in the interest of balance on the Ryan budget, I offer the following:

Magical Health-Care Savings
Paul Ryan’s plan is a step forward, but its projections of health spending are too optimistic.
Josh Barro

One of the key Republican criticisms of last year’s health-care law—the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or PPACA—was that its Medicare cuts were so aggressive as to be illusory. Skittish future Congresses would surely repeal these cuts, Republicans argued, so PPACA would wind up widening the federal budget gap despite the Congressional Budget Office’s rosy projections. But this year, both House Republicans and President Obama are advancing budget plans that rely on Medicare costs’ growing even more slowly than they would under PPACA. Their proposals are thus vulnerable to the same criticism. Congressman Paul Ryan, who has led the House effort, has offered a plan that makes clear the difficult choices that lie ahead and that includes some positive structural changes to Medicare and Medicaid. But his budget’s projections rely on an assumption that we can spend far less money than we had planned to run both programs—and those savings are too ambitious to be plausible under the reforms he proposes.

The most discussed part of Ryan’s proposal is his plan to convert Medicare from its traditional form to a “premium-support model” for people currently under 55. These people would receive government assistance to pay part of a premium for a health-insurance plan purchased through a federal exchange. Crucially, the value of this subsidy would grow only as quickly as the Consumer Price Index—even though CPI growth is generally expected to be about 2 percent, while per-capita health-care spending is expected to rise by 5 percent to 6 percent annually. As health-care costs rise faster than inflation, seniors would have to pay out of pocket for a greater share of their health costs each year, or consume less health care.

This premium-support model, however, wouldn’t begin until 2022. Before then, Ryan proposes to spend $389 billion less on Medicare through 2021 than the president’s budget proposal would. But Ryan’s budget, like the president’s, would keep the Medicare cuts from PPACA—the same ones that, Republicans complain, are wishful thinking. And both budgets would also make the “doc fix,” a rise in physician-reimbursement rates that Congress regularly implements.

Where, then, would Ryan’s $389 billion come from? He doesn’t advance a specific plan, though Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles made some suggestions in their report late last year that he could adopt. These include lower physician-reimbursement rates, mandatory rebates from pharmaceutical companies, and higher co-payments and deductibles. They also include tort reform, which Ryan’s plan does call for, and which Simpson and Bowles estimate would cut Medicare spending by $64 billion over ten years. These steps, though, would meet stiff political resistance. And Ryan’s proposal involves repealing some of the key cost-saving features of PPACA—the Independent Payment Advisory Board and the “Cadillac tax” on high-cost health plans—and doesn’t lay out a new agenda for cost control.

Meanwhile we're setting new Scrooge McDuck money bin records.

Still lacking the confidence to spend at normal levels, businesses have stockpiled nearly $1.9 trillion in cash, a record, the US government said on Thursday.

Cash now accounts for 13 per cent of corporate assets, the highest share since 1984. Economists say the surest way to reduce unemployment would be for companies to spend more of that cash to expand and hire.

Aren't they usually protesting together in California?

It depends on the kind of rally. Zionists of any shade are never welcome, and true blue peace activists tend to concern themselves with anti-war issues rather than let's bash the Jewish state issues. Pro-labor rallies don't tend to attract the wannabe Jihadi kids, nor the whiny Palestinian contingent that tends to show up at ANSWER rallies. Although I should mention that Zionists do show up at such rallies, but we don't advertise our presence.

Agreed, this "nation building on the cheap" BS did us no favors and likely ensured that Iraq and Afghanistan will be problems for us for years to come. One thing we insured with Germany and Japan was that all traces of the old regime was gone, that it could not rise back to power and take things back over once we'd turned the reins over to the new government. We went so far in Japan as to insist on a new constitution that expressly forbid the sort of government we'd just defeated. And we most certainly did not allow either nation to enshrine a religion or declare said religion to be the basis of all law.

And, in the end, Germany and Japan both came out better for our effort. I don't see that happening in either Iraq or Afghanistan.

Iraq's government is still fragile, composed of factions that care less about keeping the nation stable and more about seizing control for themselves, al-Sadr being at the top of the list. And Iran is no doubt working in the shadows, bankrolling such efforts in the hope that they can get a hold of Iraq's oil reserves.

Afghanistan is pretty much a dictatorship now, with Karzai leveraging our desire to keep a "pro-US" leader in power as a means of keeping his office. But even he's already started planning for the long game, looking to negotiate with the Taliban remnant to support his rule after we leave. He's reliant on our continued presence, without which the Taliban will just move in, knock him over, and set up shop again.

It's haunting to me since I know exactly what I was doing on 7-24-08. Really, while I think this country has a lot to grow on when it comes to treatment of gays, the way much of the rest of the world treats gays is barbaric as hell. There is no reason at all why gay and lesbian citizens shouldn't be treated with dignity and have the right to be happy with who they are without fear of harassment and violence.

446 Gus  Sat, Apr 16, 2011 7:03:33pm

Or. Instead of being completely dour about things...

In Iraq, Bottoms Up for Democracy

BAGHDAD — Tariq Harb, who was a military attorney under Saddam Hussein and is now a constitutional lawyer and television talking head, was happy to see the liquor flowing again at the Iraqi Writers Union’s outdoor cafe. But many other Iraqis aren’t. “There are people who want to kill me because I drink,” he said, shuffling prayer beads at the cafe. “We are fighting the religious educators, the imams, the preachers, who are extremists.”

So goes the struggle to define Iraq’s emergent democracy and whether it can balance religion and secularism. If the issue of liquor offers any clues, the effort remains a work in progress.

In January, bars and clubs, including the Writers Union, were raided in what many Iraqis saw as a government move toward a stricter interpretation of Islamic law. The author of the ban on alcohol was the head of the Baghdad Provincial Council, Kamil al-Zaidi, who told The New York Times, “We are a Muslim country, and everyone must respect that.”

But soon after, as protests for reform began about other issues, the boozy haunts were allowed to reopen. And since then, Baghdad has seen a surprising renaissance of its night life.

It hasn’t been the only sign here this year of a tilt away from Islam, and toward a more expansive view of personal freedoms. The new education minister reopened art and music classes that the previous minister had banned. An attempt to require female government employees to wear a veil was blocked in Parliament. Even Moqtada al-Sadr, the anti-American cleric, responded to France’s ban on full-face veils for women with a statement that sounded remarkably like an embrace of democratic tolerance: “According to Muslim law, it is not an obligation to wear the hijab, but to ban it by law is a repression of freedom. Forcing women to wear the hijab, or not to wear it, both are unacceptable.”

Continues.

For reference this tree had been there ever since I was born and probably a lot longer than that, it was about as long as our front yard.

Doing better than much of the rest of the region. There have been some protests but nothing that looks like Egypt, Syria, Libya, etc. The people are free to protest but they are free. In that region it's quite an accomplishment.

The reason there haven't been wide scale protests are four fold:

1) Sectarian division: Iraq is a largely segregated society, unlike Egypt or Tunisia, making it hard for protests to spread.

2)Lack of focus: Iraq doesn't have an iconic head of state who has been in power for 30+ years, so instead of a national movement focused on deposing a head of state fuel by poor local conditions you end up with lots of small local protests about local issues.

3)Violence. Iraqi forces have been pretty free with the use of live ammunition to disperse crowds. Not to the extent that Libyan forces were, but enough to crush small protests. Also, the persistent threat of terrorism makes large protests risky.

I wouldn't say Iraq is going well...even relative to the rest of the region.

I agree about the weather, but I think it's at least some further evidence that the enthusiasm for these "Tax Day" Tea Party Rallies, even with celebrity headliners like Breitbart and Palin, isn't anywhere near what it was in years past.

What's also interesting is these events seem to be much more explicitly organized by Koch's American's for Prosperity now:
Image: 27570301_640X480.jpg

AFP robo-called me to try and turn me out for the New Hampshire tea party rally (which featured Rick Santorum, Hermain Cain, etc) the other day. I'm guessing AFP also provided the stage, giant screen, sound system and robo-calling organizing for the WI rally too based on their logo all over everything.

Here's a bit of video from within the booing crowd:

No, that we would not do. If a town harbored the camp from which the terrorists came, then that town gets blasted even if the terrorists have left. The people are required to keep the terrorists out. If the terrorists kill them, then they should have thought about that when we offered to help them.

Did I miss the part where we asked the people of Afghanistan if they wanted us to pop in and help them?

And where the hell is it written that a civilian population is required to die getting rid of terrorists for the convenience of a foreign combatant?

515 SanFranciscoZionist  Sat, Apr 16, 2011 8:33:47pm

re: #375 jvic

Words like 'nuke' and 'murderous' aside, it remains true that the Taliban sheltered bin Laden. Therefore, I don't see how we can walk away and let them take over again. I question the credibility of any parting threats we might make; barring terrorism orders of magnitude greater than 9/11, I question the willingness of our government to implement such threats. Otoh, I'm at a loss as to what to do.

We could always capture Bin Laden. Seems vanishing unlikely at this point, but it would help.

Or, we could get the hell over ourselves. The Taliban are no better or worse than a different pack of jackals that might rise to power in the tribal country of Afghanistan. Yes, they harbored our enemy. They didn't have a reason not to.

We may have to walk away from this one.

Apparently, only liberals care about books that deal with violent racists...and conservatives like fantasies about letting thousands, even millions of ordinary people die because only idiots believe in altruism and the highest moral order is "fuck you... I've got mine, bee-yotch!"

Roman style decimation can be effective, but it requires one to be a consummate tyrant and a monster. If you stare into the abyss too long, it stares back...and all that jazz.

Afghanistan has been worked over by bigger assholes than Americans ever hope to be. The idea that we can somehow be scary enough that the folks up there will never shelter terrorists again seems vanishingly small.
