Wingnut Fail Spreads to American Family Association

Ripples of derp
Wingnuts • Views: 33,432

The completely fake “Obama Hates Easter” wingnut meme is really starting to catch on! The latest eager promoter of this idiocy is the American Family Association, home of the deranged Bryan Fischer, where they never let a good anti-Christian persecution-mongering story go to waste, especially when it can be mixed up with xenophobic bigotry into a rancid fraudulent video: AFA: Obama Hates Easter.

Look, while the AFA isn’t very American and I don’t think they’re actually all that family-oriented, at least I think they’re actually some sort of association…probably…maybe.

I hate Easter, so there.

It’s probably better than Christmas in one respect though: In this case, the early church at least managed to hijack a pagan holiday that falls at the right time of year.

I love easter because it means my mom makes deviled eggs and See’s Candies sell those giant Bordeaux chocolate eggs.

I starting to feel like this all is just a taste of things to come and the 2012 election is going to be a particularly loathsome affair. I don’t necessarily expect the serious candidates to participate directly, but folks like Trump and Franklin Graham are proving how willingly the media will provide a platform for the basest accusations and innuendo.

A USA Today poll from yesterday had “only 38% of Americans say Obama definitely was born in the USA, and 18% say he probably was.” No matter how much debunking the media does, and they often don’t even bother, providing so much coverage of fringe Obama myths, that previously never really managed to make it through into the mainstream, seems to be moving the needle by sowing doubts throughtout the electorate.

I like Easter because it’s the one time of the year I get Cadbury’s Creme Eggs. And I get to point out that it’s a pagan fertility festival that got ripped off, what with the eggs and rabbits and all.

There are Higher Truths. The Higher Truth is that America, Christianity, fertility, heterosexual marriage, motherhood and apple pie are all under attack from secularist Islamists.

A few factual distortions are perfectly acceptable if they serve to spread the Higher Truths.

You know, I just realized that son of a bitch Obama didn’t ‘proclaim’ my birthday! He’s obviously anti-Behemoth, and as everyone knows, that makes him an un-American asshole.

When I was younger, like 16, I liked it for the filmy new dresses the girls wore to church. I am still not quite dead to such things, but I quit going to church. If I went back now, I might risk being tarred and feathered or burned at the stake or something.
My Baptist minister son-in-law is a traditionalist as Baptists go; that is, he believes in tolerance and separation of church and state. Unfortunately, he and his congregation are a long way from Lubbock.

The whole ‘taqqiya’ thing got very weird. I had an odd little exchange with Bagua at one point—Ahmedinejad had said something that was patently bullshit, and Bagua was describing it as ‘taqqiya’. I said that I wasn’t sure we needed to use a special word to describe a politician lying.

On their honeymoon, the blonde bride slipped into a sexy nightie and, with great anticipation, crawled into bed, only to find her new Catholic husband had settled down on the couch. When she asked him why he was apparently not going to make love to her, he replied, “It’s Lent.”

In tears, she sobbed, “Well, that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard! Who did you lend it to, and for how long?”

66 Meitantei  Tue, Apr 26, 2011 2:13:07pm

I honestly wonder how much something like high school or college elections contribute to this sort of thing and people not growing out of it contributes to these problems. Last week, my buddy was running for student president at my university, and I voted for him. And I wonder how much people think about things like that and try to extrapolate it to the country as a whole, and so they look at these politicians and try to figure out which one’s more likely to be their friend, even if 99% of them will never meet Obama or Trump beyond a handshake in their lives.

I don’t have a problem with voting for my friend to be the president of my student body. I would never vote for him to run this country. Just like I think Huckabee’s probably the most likable politician out there, but there’s a difference between liking people and shoving them in real positions of power. And people don’t make a distinction, and it’s annoying.

I assume they quoted her accurately when they wrote the following in the article:

One constituent, Tamecka Pierce, asked Webster about what would happen to people like her with major preexisting conditions under the Republican budget. Pierce had to undergo months of chemotherapy to deal with systemic lupus and the resulting kidney damage. Pierce expressed disappointment in Webster. “I don’t think I really got a response,” she told ThinkProgress in an interview. She expressed major concern about the Republican budget, noting that “had it not been for Medicaid, I would be dead.”

I infer the Republican position towards her and her life span from their actions.
