Gallup Poll: Negative Views of Tea Party at All-Time High

Neanderthal movement losing steam?
Politics • Views: 22,643

The latest Gallup poll shows that the popularity of the atavistic Tea Party movement is at an all-time low.

PRINCETON, NJ — About half of Americans, 47%, now have an unfavorable image of the Tea Party movement, the highest since it emerged on the national scene.

Gallup began tracking Americans’ views of the Tea Party in March 2010, when 37% had a favorable and 40% an unfavorable view. Those views stayed roughly the same through January of this year, but have now turned somewhat more negative. The April 20-23 USA Today/Gallup poll finds favorable opinions of the Tea Party movement dropping to 33%, from 39% in January, and unfavorable opinions rising to 47% from 42%. Twenty percent of Americans say they haven’t heard of the Tea Party or have no opinion of it.

Republicans and conservatives still think the Tea Party is just ducky, of course.

The views of Republicans split 60% positively to 24% negatively toward the Tea Party; conservatives’ views split 56% to 29%. Substantial majorities of Democrats and liberals view the Tea Party unfavorably. Views of the Tea Party became more negative between January and April among both Republicans and independents; there was very little change in Democrats’ already negative views.

Yeah, but reality has a liberal bias, so of course it would show the Tea Party getting less popular.

Well, that’s a plus. That being said, this seems like it could indicate a major problem. That’s a pretty big GOP lead on budget issues. And they’re polling very slightly ahead of the Democrats on most of the issues listed. Considering what had been going on lately, I find that rather concerning.

As long as the TP was able to simply serve as a blank canvas on which voters were invited to project their ideas of what conservative government should be, it was fine.

But once they actually had to put their ideas into actual policies, things started to wear thin.

So, I was thinking of making a bumper sticker out of something I read on here: “I won’t believe Jesus is God’s son until I see the long form certificate.”

BUT, I thought about it some more and realized it wouldn’t really have the intended effect of making a Religious Right Tea Party Birther realize how idiotic his position is. If he has an ounce of wit, he will just smile smugly and say, “I’ve seen it…it’s called the Bible.”

Of course that’s not a very logical answer, but the intended target of my ironic bumper sticker would consider my argument trumped, and go off to high-five with his friends.

So, no bumper sticker for me.

Well, I think you have, perhaps inadvertently, pointed out the risk of reading too deeply into this poll. These numbers reflect the Tea Party brand, not the ideas. Many people may have been turned off by the racism and stupidity many TPers spout, but that doesn’t mean they don’t still support some of the more insane ideas on taxes or spending or the budget. And as long as they maintain their current levels of support, they’re probably strong enough to continue to influence elections and the policy directions of the country.

That’s making the rounds on the blogosphere. I found one story earlier on American “Thinker” about how the State Department and Harvard supposedly colluded to get rid of Barack Obama Sr. because he was a bad man.

Now that the birth certificate is a dead end for these loons, they’re going straight to attacking President Obama’s father. It’s straight out of the racist playbook of making blacks jump through more and more complicated hoops to prove themselves.

It’s amazing the reach politics has on a persons world view. even in the car hobby. i.e. cars getting good fuel economy are “bad” because the tree huggers like them. They are convinced that modern, small cars can’t go 120 MPH (they can), that they can’t do 0-60 in under 10 seconds (many are faster, they are unsafe (they are safer/mile than a SUV) and the rest.
It’s so bad they turn on everything electrical on earth day, refuse to buy anything energy saving and brag that they leave their 4x4’s idling for half a hour just because. Anything the left likes, they must hate, no matter the logic.
On car forums, the guys building electric drag cars are often treated like Commies just for playing with the new technology.

I have a number of comments and things I’d like to get off my chest.

First to CL. I have no beef with you and I never have. I have always respected you. Look back at all of our past interactions and you, I hope can see that is true.

After the murder of that man and the desecration of the Tomb of Joseph, I was very angry. Especially since this amidst heightened rocket attacks and the murder of the Foegel family. I don’t think peace is possible. My mind has shifted to a war footing.

I have always distinguished between different Muslim factions. If you recall, I supported the rights of Muslims to build a mosque at park 51. And I have scoffed at the unconstitutionality and hysteria of anti-sharia legislation.

But the war in Israel is something else. I am tired of it. I want it over.

Please don’t let hysterics of the ohh so delicate with grudges try to convince you otherwise.

It’s rather curious the way web behavior works honestly.

I am well aware that I have said quite a few things that have hurt certain delicate ears.

This is web politics.

For instance: the statement that the Temple is Jewish.

That is a statement of fact as true as 2+2=4. Unfortunately, only Alouette could say that with me - until CL, the one you were all defending supposedly, and to her great credit, said it in her open letter. I have no beef with CL.

Suddenly the Temple was Jewish again.

What marvelous cowardice!

Or for example, the nature of the Southern Strategy…

Perhaps it got that name because it works so well in Massachusetts.

I try to back things up with facts. I have been swayed more than once. I have admitted when I was, mistaken, flat out wrong or even completely off base on things in the past.

Where I find the most grief though is when I make true statements that everyone knows bluntly.

What are some of my “greatest hits”

That AGW is real. In the old days, I was under pile ons that make this look like nothing. Yah think the new PC police scare me after fighting tooth and nail with hardcore wingnuts?

One time I noticed how many GOP speakers were really tubby. To me this was a perfect metaphor for the mindless consumption their party falsely thinks is a sustainable way of life. Unfortunately, that offended the fatties here. None of that changes the fact that such things only make the point stronger. Afteral, we are addicted to a consumer lifestyle that substitutes stuff for happiness and fulfillment - easy pleasures over hard work. No one puts a gun to your head and makes you become obese. It is just weakness.

Of course, that went over a lead balloon. Someone should speak the truth sometimes.

Then there is the whole southern thing beat into the dust by those brave defenders of the South who imagine there is no extra problem there with racism and ignore bill after bill in their legislatures and voting patterns that clearly show otherwise.

Of course, that went over a lead balloon. Someone should speak the truth sometimes.

And the Fox News women. I have written again and again about advancing women in society for years here. So when a group of silicon augmented starlets use their sexuality to push a message that puts women back 100 years, it is ironic in the extreme. Any woman will tell you that the worst enemies of women’s rights are always other women. It seems though a man can’t call out women who prostitute themselves at the expense of other women.

I was even asked what Miss S thought about it. What do you think she calls women who betray other women like that? She is more harsh than me! She made a fantastic comment about it. She said that a woman doing her job, going about her day to day, should never ever have to be harassed. She continued that only crazy feminists expect nothing to be sexual when women who go to certain dance clubs in a little dress. She also added that some women enjoy the random interactions. Of course, Miss S. tends to live in the real world also.

One cannot tinker with the very nature of the automobile and not expect to evoke a very visceral reaction from people who think with their intestines, especially the lower intestines…

Qnd here, just to irk them:

Trump fires f-bombs in Vegas speech

In one of his f-bomb tirades, Trump blasted the emphasis on U.S. efforts to foster democracy in Iraq but lamented that issues on American soil are being ignored.

“We build a school, we build a road, they blow up the school, we build another school, we build another road they blow them up, we build again, in the meantime we can’t get a (expletive) school in Brooklyn,” Trump said, according to KNTV, an ABC affiliate.

On the subject of China and its trade policy, Trump said: “Listen you (expletive) , we’re going to tax you 25%.”

The billionaire real estate developer and reality TV show host told the crowd that he’s not your typical presidential candidate, but said he’s willing to “give a lot of stuff up” to make a presidential bid.

“It is peanuts compared to the importance of this country,” Trump said.

Later, he said there is a “good chance” he wouldn’t win the presidency “because of one of those blood-sucking politicians.”

It’s amazing the reach politics has on a persons world view. even in the car hobby. i.e. cars getting good fuel economy are “bad” because the tree huggers like them.

That’s sad. And stupid. And I really liked the under-hood layout of the Yugo.

You can keep repeating the same crap if you want but I don’t think it will do you any good. Yet again you’re simply dismissing anyone who disagrees with you or your obnoxious style as living in fantasy. I doubt this will win you many friends.

The Temple is Jewish. The mosque is Muslim. The women of Fox News aren’t sluts just because you don’t like them. God doesn’t hate the South.

TL;DR: Grow up and get some perspective.

Then there is the whole southern thing beat into the dust by those brave defenders of the South who imagine there is no extra problem there with racism and ignore bill after bill in their legislatures and voting patterns that clearly show otherwise.

It wouldn’t kill you to offer a prayer for the victims of the Alabama tornados. Maybe even make a donation to disaster relief in honor of those who are rolling up their sleeves to help their neighbors in need.

Sorry to go OT, but the Arcade Fire has introduced this site - The Wilderness Downtown - and it’s pretty cool.

You type in your home town, and it incorporates Google Maps to make your home town part of the video for ‘We Used To Wait.’

It says it only works in Chrome, but I just ran it in Firefox without a problem.

That is amazing. Thank you.

Well, that’s a plus. That being said, this seems like it could indicate a major problem. That’s a pretty big GOP lead on budget issues. And they’re polling very slightly ahead of the Democrats on most of the issues listed. Considering what had been going on lately, I find that rather concerning.

I think that shows that people do not yet know what is in the Ryan budget. Give it a little time.
